MALICIOUS INJURY/
DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY
By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Its no coincidence that in the
very first Tips From a Trooper
article I wrote about Oklahoma’s
Move Over law. It is one of the single most important laws on
the books for the safety of our Emergency Response professionals
as they do their jobs on and around the roads of Oklahoma. Due
to several recent incidents, I want to re-introduce everyone to
this law! I’m talking Oklahoma State Statute Title 47, Chapter
11-314: Approaching a stationary emergency vehicle, wrecker, or
tow vehicle displaying flashing lights. What this law states is that
when approaching an emergency vehicle such as a law enforcement
vehicle, ambulance, fire truck, wrecker or tow truck, which has its
emergency lights activated (red and blue lights, or any combination
of), you, the courteous driver, shall do the following:
On roadways with more than one lane traveling in the same
direction, you shall move to the adjacent lane if possible. This
means if you have two lanes available to you, when you approach
an emergency vehicle with lights activated, you will move from the
lane closest to the emergency vehicle to the lane farthest away from
the emergency vehicle, provided you can do so safely. Usually this
will be from the right hand lane to the left hand lane, because the
most common occurrence of this will be when you are passing a
Trooper or other Law Enforcement Officer who has a driver stopped
on the shoulder of the roadway. If you are not able to change lanes
to move away from the emergency vehicle, perhaps because there is
already a car occupying that lane next to you, then you shall reduce
your speed and proceed with caution.
On roadways that have only one lane of travel for each direction,
in other words, your basic two lane highway or road, you are
required to simply reduce your speed in your lane and proceed with
caution.
If you are found in violation of this law, the fine currently is
$211.50.
Just this year, we have had several Troopers hit, and Trooper
Nicholas Dees lost his life while working an accident on I-40 to a
distracted driver who did not obey this law. Trooper Keith Burch
was seriously injured in the same tragic accident, and has a long
recovery ahead. Most recently, Trooper Gary Sanders was hit while
on a traffic stop by another distracted driver, and nearly lost his
life. Aside from being a law, this just makes common sense. Part
of being a safe and courteous driver means looking out for others
on or near the roadway. Pay attention and MOVE OVER or SLOW
DOWN, those are some easy things to do to put emergency service
professionals at ease! Thanks for reading, buckle up and please
drive safe!

CHILD ABUSE BY INJURY
When a would-be bank robber arrives at his heist destination by
taxi, there’s a pretty good chance the holdup is going to go awry.
Plus, it probably doesn’t help if he’s extremely drunk, too.
That’s exactly what happened when Stanley Geddie rolled up to
a Tallahassee, Fla., bank in a cab, told the manager he had a .357
handgun AND C4 plastic explosives, and demanded $100,000.
Other employees grew concerned when the manager closed his
office door while speaking with Geddie and that’s when police were
contacted.
First, cops approached the taxi driver, who said Geddie was a hot
mess. Not only was the 46-year-old wasted, but he also didn’t pay the
$25.50 fare.
Then, officers surrounded the bank and told Geddie to surrender.
When he refused, police tased him. Court records state that when he was told that he would be shot if
he made any sudden movements Geddie said “well then kill me.”
Thankfully, Geddie was lying about the gun and explosives.
The unsuccessful thief was arrested and charged with robbery, petty theft and resisting arrest.

What you’re saying
about this on...
Sarah S: I was at work. The Federal Employees Credit Union was my banking institution. On April 18, I called Kathy and told her to mail me a check. That afternoon I called her
back and told her to hold it and I would drive up from Anadarko and be there by 9:00 am
to pick it up. I normally just have them mail it but I thought if I left around 7:30 I would
get there, pick it up and head back home. On April 19, I went to work at 6:00 am and told
my manager I needed to leave around 7:30. No later than 8:00. He said okay, but he asked
if I would do a short task before I left. I got detained and lost track of time. I called Kathy
and told her I would be a few minutes late. She said “no problem” she would hold it for me.
Next thing I knew, people in the office were all talking about the catastrophe. I just slowly
sat down in the nearest chair and started crying. I’ll never forget that day or all my FECU
friends.
Sara B: I was in Elementary school and we felt the blast from Yukon!
Brad F: Senior in high school at Putnam City North I was a library aide that hour. It
set off all the alarms on the cars in the parking lot. Stayed in library all day watching on
television
Angie W: I was a Junior at Enid High...the mood of the entire school was incredibly
somber.
Brianda K: That is my birthday. I was 2 months pregnant with my daughter.....I
turned on the t.v. and that was on the news....what a sad day.
Chris C: I was in 5th grade at Highland Park in Del City, it sounded like really loud
Thunder..
Sandra J: Working at Daylight Donuts in Bristow when I heard. I was very sad because I knew many of those that worked in that building and lost their lives. I had previously worked for a CPA firm just a few blocks away. It is a day I will never forget.
Latonia T: Sylversteon, Dalton and Kelley’s surgical office NW 63rd and Independence. Just got a patient out of surgery and turned on the O2 when the bomb went off!
Thought someone had driven through the front of our building. That’s how close it felt.
David S: I was in 6th grade standing in line in the hallway at school waiting for gym
class. I was standing next to the cafeteria and felt the boom. I heard the windows and pots
and pans rattling. We all thought it was Tinker Air Force base. Was we wrong.
Erich R: In Edmond at my house when it woke me up and and then went to assist
Kelly O: I was 8 months pregnant vacuuming my car out in the front yard and felt
it and heard the boom of it over the vacuum......the bombing happened the day after my
birthday.
Angela P: I was in the 6th grade and was talking to a friend about his mom because
she was suppose to go up there but didn’t!!!
Frank K: I was late for work that day and just barely caught it on the news as I was
leaving. I made light of it when I got to work when I was asked why I was late. I said I was
setting off a bomb. No one knew what I was talking about nor did they know I was joking.
I know. I shouldn’t have joked about it, but that’s my memory of that day.
Kevin G: Watching t.v with my grandma eating breakfast. I was 17
It’s been 20 years since the
Murrah Federal Building in

by an act of domestic terrorism. 168 lives were lost and
thousands were affected.

you doing on April 19, 1995,

what were you doing?
(We had a tremendous response to this poll; thanks to everyone who shared
their story! Sorry we could not print all of them, but if you would like to read
them all, go to our Facebook page OKJailbirds.)
Joseph C: I was in 6th grade and we herd it all the way in elk city made us stay in
school longer that day but classes stopped, we watched the news too
Korie S: I was in my mommas belly..
Kimberly G: I was 23 I woke up to feed my three week old and I turn the TV on and
saw people running from the building. And the rest of the day and week in shock with the
rest of the world. Such a tragic sad time. I will never forget that day.
Jennifer D: In 3rd grade and also the day my grandpa got diagnosed with lung cancer
Terrie D: I was in 10th grade. I had stayed home from school that day. I remember it
like it was yesterday, we sat glued to the tv.
Mylisa L: I was at Chickasha vo-tec taking a can class a day I will never forget.
Tammy J: I was on I 40 with my ex-husband griping him out because he was late
for work was supposed to be at work at 9 o’clock right on six street he was late about five
minutes so we got downtown didn’t know what was going on and if he would’ve been on
time I would have been turning in front of the murha building but God had other plans we
were stuck there all day
Shannon D: Freshman in high school in history class...
Katrina C: 8th grade English class if I can remember correctly.
Amy C: I was in 11th grade at PCN in child development. We thought a tire exploded

A New Jersey man has been accused of stealing a friend’s car to
avoid missing a court hearing on drug charges.
Twenty-one-year-old Jorge Ramirez-Sierra, of Riverdale, has been
charged with unlawful taking of a means of conveyance and driving
while suspended, among other counts.
Police tell NJ.com the new charges came after a man reported his
car missing. Police say the man told officers Ramirez-Sierra had said
the night before that he didn’t know how he would get to Paterson for
the court hearing.
While officers were talking with the owner, Ramirez-Sierra called to
say he was returning with the vehicle. He was taken into custody after
arriving.
NorthJersey.com reports that Ramirez-Sierra had been arrested on
drug charges in March.
Ramirez-Sierra’s telephone number couldn’t be located Monday.

An Altus woman attacked a Frederick police officer with a Downy bottle when he tried to place her under arrest for a warrant on April 8.
Downy is supposed to makes things softer -- but it just made 28-yearold Ruby Cantu mean!
The officer was on patrol in the 200 block of East Kiowa shortly after
11 p.m. when he noticed a couple walking through the yard of a residence
in the 600 block of North 11th. According to the police report, the officer
knew the homeowners and the couple walking through the yard wasn’t
them!
He stopped to talk to the couple; it wasn’t long before they realized who
they were.
Since the officer recognized the man and woman from past dealings, he asked dispatch to
check them for warrants. Sure enough, Cantu had an outstanding warrant in Tillman County.
When the officer told Cantu she was under arrest, she started swinging a 77-ounce bottle
of Downy at him, striking him twice. She then took off running, but the officer caught up to
her 25 yards later. When he told her to put her hands behind her back, she again hit him with
the fabric softener bottle.
More officers arrived to assist, but Cantu was ready to take them all on. She kicked officers
and jerked away when they were trying to place her in handcuffs.
Little miss Cantu remained combative all the way to jail.
The Downy assailant is being charged with assault and battery on police officer. Her bond
was set at $50,000.
I have a bottle of Downy
and I’m not afraid to use it!

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

When a mugger tried to rob her friend, 92-year-old Eileen Mason just
had her mobility scooter – and her no-nonsense attitude.
Eileen and 75-year-old Margaret Seabrook, both from Swindon, Wiltshire, England, were returning home from a lunch club meeting when a
thief appeared from behind a fence and eyed up the contents of Margaret’s basket.
But the robber didn’t know who he was dealing with.
‘Oh no you don’t!’ was Eileen’s battle cry as she accelerated on her
scooter.
The would-be thief ‘went flying’, said Eileen, who has four children, 10
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
‘We went through the war and all the bombings. We won’t let a weasel
like that hold us back.’
Crocs plastic shoes left tread marks that helped link a 22-year-old
Fairbanks man to downtown burglaries, authorities said.
The owner of a building where some break-ins occurred provided surveillance footage to police, who posted it on the department’s Facebook
page. Roland Huntington Grace name was among several mentioned by
tipsters, according to authorities.
According to the court documents, Grace wore Crocs during a police
interview and the shoes matched the tread pattern found at the scene.
Grace faces charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief in connection with the burglaries reported earlier this month, the Fairbanks Daily
News-Miner newspaper reported.
Online court records don’t have an attorney listed for him. Charging
documents say Grace admitted to the burglaries.
The owner of The Crepery reported on April 1 that someone stole about
$400 from a cash register after breaking into the restaurant. A minister
at the Church of Christ reported April 2 that someone stole about $30
after prying open several locked doors. Another burglary at The Crepery
was reported April 3, with $5 in change taken. A worker at the art gallery
across the hall told responding police that there was a burglary at that
shop as well, and that $1,000 of artists’ jewelry was taken.
According to authorities, two necklaces matching the description of
jewelry taken from the gallery were recovered from Grace.

Lone Wolf woman Destiney Marie Pruitt, 34, tried to deter an officer from searching her car by telling him there were
“dirty panties” and other “nasty” items in her vehicle during a
traffic stop on April 11.
Really, she just didn’t want him to find her drugs.
Shortly after 5 p.m., a Hobart officer was traveling southbound in the 300 block of S. Jefferson when he noticed an
SUV driving east on Fourth. After checking the vehicle’s tag,
he pulled the driver over in the 100 block of South Monroe.
The officer asked the driver, identified as Pruitt, why the vehicle was still registered to a local business. She told him she
didn’t have money to put it in her name.
Pruitt’s husband was in the passenger seat, and the woman
told the officer they were on their way to a Mexican restaurant.
He asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. She said no, but stated her vehicle was
messy because everything she owned was in there.
The officer advised Pruitt that her vehicle was going to be towed, and he was going to
search it because Pruitt’s husband was in the drug court.
According to the police report, Pruitt started freaking out and told the officer there were
dirty panties in the vehicle and she didn’t want him to search it. She then said she just bought
a bunch of stuff from a garage sale and the vehicle was nasty.
The officer entered at his own risk. In Pruitt’s purse, he found some narcotic pills.
Pruitt said the purse wasn’t hers, and she again told the officer they had just loaded a bunch
of stuff from a garage sale into the vehicle.
Inside the purse, the officer also found some cards with the woman’s name on them. Police
placed her under arrest and transported her to jail.
At the jail, the officer took the purse to the evidence room. He also found a baggy containing a white residue that field-tested positive for meth.
No dirty panties were found.
Pruitt is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful
possession of controlled dangerous substance without a prescription. Her bond was set at
$20,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on June 17, 2015.

Two men allegedly stole some oilfield equipment from property
on Highway 8 just north of Cyril on April 10. When police arrived to
see what was up, the men tried to run, but they didn’t get very far.
According to the affidavit, Caddo County deputies were dispatched
to the location at approximately 9:49 a.m. The caller said the suspects had fled the scene in a red truck.
As they neared the area, police were on the lookout for the vehicle.
Luckily, they didn’t have to look long. They saw the truck turn east
on County Road 1390.
The deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but the truck continued
down the road, leading police on a brief chase before eventually
coming to a stop on County Road 2690.
Two men jumped out of the truck and tried to run away, but police
ordered them to get on the ground.
The men were identified as Chickasha man George D. Boker, 45,
and Amber man Scott W. Callahan, 46. They were placed under arrest and taken to jail.
The victim told police that he was driving down the road when he
noticed a red truck at his oilfield site. He saw Boker and Callahan
loading some stuff into the truck, so he stopped to ask them what
they were doing. They told him they were loading up some junk to
sale. When he told him no they weren’t, the men drove away.
He said he followed them, and they turned around and brought
the case housing back, which the man estimated to be worth $5,000.
The man said he closed the gate and called the sheriff’s office. The men rammed his gate
with the truck before driving away.
A deputy was later advised that the tag decal on the truck was registered to another vehicle.
Boker told him he thought he was just taking some junk to sell, and he stole the vehicle decal
off of Callahan’s son’s car.
Callahan is being charged with grand larceny, conspiracy and eluding/attempting to elude
police officer. He was released on a $15,000 bond.
Boker is being charged with grand larceny, conspiracy, knowingly concealing stolen property, intimidation of witness and eluding/attempting to elude police officer. He was released
on a $50,000 bond.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on June 11, 2015.

A sexual assault occurs every 2 seconds in the United States. While both
men and women are susceptible to becoming victims of sexual violence, a
CDC survey revealed that 1 in 5 U.S. women have been raped during their
lifetime and 1 in 2 have encountered some form of sexual violence.
Unfortunately, sexual assault incidents are reported less frequently than
any other violent crime as only a small percentage of victims are willing
to step forward to report their experience and involve the criminal justice
process.
Protecting yourself by being informed about the dangers in your area
and understanding preventative measures are critical to prevent victimization.
The National Crime Prevention Council and AlertID offer the following
9 tips to help protect women from becoming victims:
1. Be aware of your surroundings - become a member of AlertID
for free at www.AlertID.com to stay informed of the sex offender, current
crime alerts and up to the minute warnings from neighbors in any area
important to you.
2. Avoid walking or jogging alone – particularly at night. Additionally,
vary your route and stay in well-traveled, well-lighted areas.
3. Walk with confidence - the more confident you look, the stronger

Walters man Domingo
Samuel Pequeno, 36, allegedly attacked another
man at a parents’ meeting
for kids’ coach pitch ball
after calling him a bitch.
Pequeno must have
not gotten the memo that
kids were supposed to be
swinging bats -- adults weren’t supposed to be swinging fists!
According to the police report, a Walters officer was dispatched
to the school cafeteria April 10 because there was a fight going on.
When he arrived, a woman told him Pequeno and another man were
arguing, and Pequeno hit the man on the side of the face, knocking
his glasses off. There were about seven children and other parents in
the room when Pequeno allegedly slapped the man.
The victim said he was sitting at a table going through some papers
when he heard someone say, “Hey, little bitch!” The victim looked
up, and he said Pequeno swung at him, barely missing his face. He
said Pequeno then hit him in the side of the head with an open hand.
A witness said Pequeno hit the man so hard that his glasses were
knocked “approximately 10 feet behind [him].” He then started cussing the victim out until another man stopped the argument.
While the victim was picking up his glasses, Pequeno walked closer
to him, apparently trying to start a fight, but another man stepped
between them and told Pequeno to go outside.
The brawlin' man was placed under arrest and taken to jail.
Pequeno is being charged with assault and disturbing the peace.
He was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in
court on August 14, 2015.

Hobart man Clayton Steele Walker, 25, said he
didn’t think it was a “big deal” when he broke into a
Blair residence to “get a pizza pocket and something
to drink” on April 8.
He also allegedly took a kid’s piggy bank, two cellphones and a charger, and he left some used syringes by the front porch.
A Blair officer was dispatched to a residence in the
500 block of Main at approximately 5 p.m., because a man said he
thought Walker had broken into his house. According to the affidavit,
the officer had arrested Walker for another incident earlier that day.
The man said the backdoor on his house was damaged, and it
looked like someone had forced his way in. His son’s piggy bank,
along with $60, was missing from under his bed. The burglar had
also apparently indulged in some Hot Pockets and Powerade.
The man showed the officer a note Walker left on his door that said,
“Hey Bro. I thought you got off at 2:00; I will be around. Call me, I
guess.”
The officer looked around the yard, and he also found a set of footprints and two used syringes. He also remembered seeing an unidentified man sitting on the porch earlier that day while on routine patrol.
The officer spoke to Walker the next day, and the man said his
friend dropped him off near the house when he was high. He said he
went into the house to get a pizza pocket and something to eat.
Walker stated, “I didn’t think it was a big deal.”
He admitted to taking the piggy bank and cellphones. He also admitted to using the syringes found on the property. He told police
he and the victim were best friends, but he wasn’t “looking for any
favors.”
Nope -- just some money and a Hot Pocket!
Walker is being charged with burglary in the second degree. His
bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
June 2, 2015.
He just needed
a Hot Pocket!
