A sexual assault occurs every 2 seconds in the United States. While both
men and women are susceptible to becoming victims of sexual violence, a
CDC survey revealed that 1 in 5 U.S. women have been raped during their
lifetime and 1 in 2 have encountered some form of sexual violence.
Unfortunately, sexual assault incidents are reported less frequently than
any other violent crime as only a small percentage of victims are willing
to step forward to report their experience and involve the criminal justice
process.
Protecting yourself by being informed about the dangers in your area
and understanding preventative measures are critical to prevent victimization.
The National Crime Prevention Council and AlertID offer the following
9 tips to help protect women from becoming victims:
1. Be aware of your surroundings - become a member of AlertID
for free at www.AlertID.com to stay informed of the sex offender, current
crime alerts and up to the minute warnings from neighbors in any area
important to you.
2. Avoid walking or jogging alone – particularly at night. Additionally,
vary your route and stay in well-traveled, well-lighted areas.
3. Walk with confidence - the more confident you look, the stronger
you appear.
4. Be wary of isolated spots –underground garages, offices after business hours, and apartment laundry rooms.
5. Have your key ready to use before you reach the door – this includes
home, car, or work.
6. Drive on well-traveled streets with doors and windows locked.
7. Trust your instincts - if you feel uncomfortable in your surroundings, leave the area immediately.
8. In the event you have car trouble - call for help on your cell phone or
if you don’t have a phone, put the hood up, set road flares, lock the doors,
turn on the hazard lights, and wait for a public service worker to assist you.
For more prevention tips and resource information on Sexual Assault
from AlertID, developed in conjunction with the National Crime Prevention Council, please visit: http://alertid.com/search/sex-crimes.asp
Victim support resources are especially important functions of the recovery process for all survivors of sexual violence. If you are sexually assaulted, it is not your fault. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or support.

Steven Grant Gordineer, 55, tried to evade arrest by throwing
stuff out of his car while driving away from a police officer.
The Enid man failed, however, but he became angry and
called an officer some derogatory names when he was placed
under arrest.
On April 11 around 11 p.m., a state trooper was traveling eastbound on Maine Street and 7th in Enid when he saw a truck
“failing to maintain a single lane of traffic,” according to the affidavit. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the truck
kept on trucking, running some red lights and driving through
some stop signs.
The trooper could also see the driver, identified as Gordineer,
tossing items out of his window.
The truck eventually came to a stop in the 900 block of East
Randolph. The man tossed one more item out of his window.
Gordineer then jumped out of the truck and apologized to the trooper -- he said he didn’t
stop because his license was suspended.
The trooper searched Gordineer’s person, and he found a clear plastic baggy containing a
green leafy substance. The substance later field-tested positive for marijuana.
The trooper also found a bottle of whiskey in the area he saw the man throw something out
the window.
Gordineer became upset and called the trooper a “c--- sucker.” He said the bottle wasn’t his.
He tried to explain that he had just tossed a soft drink out. No soft drink was found.
The trooper asked Gordineer what he was trying to hide when he was being stopped.
Gordineer said he was trying to put out a cigarette that fell on his lap, but the man had exited his vehicle with a lit cigarette.
The trooper placed the man under arrest and took him to jail. During booking, some rolling
papers were found in Gordineer’s pocket.
Gordineer is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful
possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with license suspended and eluding police officer.
He was released on a $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 11, 2015.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Its no coincidence that in the
very first Tips From a Trooper
article I wrote about Oklahoma’s
Move Over law. It is one of the single most important laws on
the books for the safety of our Emergency Response professionals
as they do their jobs on and around the roads of Oklahoma. Due
to several recent incidents, I want to re-introduce everyone to
this law! I’m talking Oklahoma State Statute Title 47, Chapter
11-314: Approaching a stationary emergency vehicle, wrecker, or
tow vehicle displaying flashing lights. What this law states is that
when approaching an emergency vehicle such as a law enforcement
vehicle, ambulance, fire truck, wrecker or tow truck, which has its
emergency lights activated (red and blue lights, or any combination
of), you, the courteous driver, shall do the following:
On roadways with more than one lane traveling in the same
direction, you shall move to the adjacent lane if possible. This
means if you have two lanes available to you, when you approach
an emergency vehicle with lights activated, you will move from the
lane closest to the emergency vehicle to the lane farthest away from
the emergency vehicle, provided you can do so safely. Usually this
will be from the right hand lane to the left hand lane, because the
most common occurrence of this will be when you are passing a
Trooper or other Law Enforcement Officer who has a driver stopped
on the shoulder of the roadway. If you are not able to change lanes
to move away from the emergency vehicle, perhaps because there is
already a car occupying that lane next to you, then you shall reduce
your speed and proceed with caution.
On roadways that have only one lane of travel for each direction,
in other words, your basic two lane highway or road, you are
required to simply reduce your speed in your lane and proceed with
caution.
If you are found in violation of this law, the fine currently is
$211.50.
Just this year, we have had several Troopers hit, and Trooper
Nicholas Dees lost his life while working an accident on I-40 to a
distracted driver who did not obey this law. Trooper Keith Burch
was seriously injured in the same tragic accident, and has a long
recovery ahead. Most recently, Trooper Gary Sanders was hit while
on a traffic stop by another distracted driver, and nearly lost his
life. Aside from being a law, this just makes common sense. Part
of being a safe and courteous driver means looking out for others
on or near the roadway. Pay attention and MOVE OVER or SLOW
DOWN, those are some easy things to do to put emergency service
professionals at ease! Thanks for reading, buckle up and please
drive safe!

Crocs plastic shoes left tread marks that helped link a 22-year-old
Fairbanks man to downtown burglaries, authorities said.
The owner of a building where some break-ins occurred provided surveillance footage to police, who posted it on the department’s Facebook
page. Roland Huntington Grace name was among several mentioned by
tipsters, according to authorities.
According to the court documents, Grace wore Crocs during a police
interview and the shoes matched the tread pattern found at the scene.
Grace faces charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief in connection with the burglaries reported earlier this month, the Fairbanks Daily
News-Miner newspaper reported.
Online court records don’t have an attorney listed for him. Charging
documents say Grace admitted to the burglaries.
The owner of The Crepery reported on April 1 that someone stole about
$400 from a cash register after breaking into the restaurant. A minister
at the Church of Christ reported April 2 that someone stole about $30
after prying open several locked doors. Another burglary at The Crepery
was reported April 3, with $5 in change taken. A worker at the art gallery
across the hall told responding police that there was a burglary at that
shop as well, and that $1,000 of artists’ jewelry was taken.
According to authorities, two necklaces matching the description of
jewelry taken from the gallery were recovered from Grace.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A Fairview man with a thirst for alcohol was arrested after he allegedly
took a 20-pack and two 30-packs of
beer from a Cleo Springs convenience
store on April 14.
Someone was planning on partying
-- or getting really drunk.
Either way, unfortunately for
21-year-old Jordan Tyler Smith, the
police shut his plans down.
According to the police report, the
store clerk contacted the Major County
Sheriff’s Office at approximately 12:45
a.m. and said a man had just stolen some brewskis from the store.
The employee said she was behind the cash register bagging ice when
a man, later identified as Smith, entered the store.
She said she acknowledge the man, and he walked toward the back
of the store to the beer section. She said the next thing she knew,
Smith was running out of the store with all 80 beers. The woman
yelled at the man, but Smith kept running and jumped into a car. The
vehicle then headed south on Highway 412.
She described the suspect as tall and bearded.
Facebookers came to the aid of police in capturing the alleged beerloving bearded bandit. The Major County Sheriff’s Officer posted a
store surveillance video of the robbery on their Facebook page, and
“many anonymous tips” positively identified the suspect as Smith.
Smith was arrested and transported to jail.
He is being charged with larceny of merchandise from a retailer.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on June 3, 2015.

What you’re saying
about this on...
Sarah S: I was at work. The Federal Employees Credit Union was my banking institution. On April 18, I called Kathy and told her to mail me a check. That afternoon I called
her back and told her to hold it and I would drive up from Anadarko and be there by 9:00
am to pick it up. I normally just have them mail it but I thought if I left around 7:30 I would
get there, pick it up and head back home. On April 19, I went to work at 6:00 am and told
my manager I needed to leave around 7:30. No later than 8:00. He said okay, but he asked
if I would do a short task before I left. I got detained and lost track of time. I called Kathy
and told her I would be a few minutes late. She said “no problem” she would hold it for me.
Next thing I knew, people in the office were all talking about the catastrophe. I just slowly
sat down in the nearest chair and started crying. I’ll never forget that day or all my FECU
friends.
Sara B: I was in Elementary school and we felt the blast from Yukon!
Brad F: Senior in high school at Putnam City North I was a library aide that hour.
It set off all the alarms on the cars in the parking lot. Stayed in library all day watching on
television
Angie W: I was a Junior at Enid High...the mood of the entire school was incredibly somber.
Brianda K: That is my birthday. I was 2 months pregnant with my daughter.....I
turned on the t.v. and that was on the news....what a sad day.
Chris C: I was in 5th grade at Highland Park in Del City, it sounded like really loud
Thunder..
Sandra J: Working at Daylight Donuts in Bristow when I heard. I was very sad
because I knew many of those that worked in that building and lost their lives. I had previously worked for a CPA firm just a few blocks away. It is a day I will never forget.
Latonia T: Sylversteon, Dalton and Kelley’s surgical office NW 63rd and Independence. Just got a patient out of surgery and turned on the O2 when the bomb went off!
Thought someone had driven through the front of our building. That’s how close it felt.
David S: I was in 6th grade standing in line in the hallway at school waiting for gym
class. I was standing next to the cafeteria and felt the boom. I heard the windows and pots
and pans rattling. We all thought it was Tinker Air Force base. Was we wrong.
Erich R: In Edmond at my house when it woke me up and and then went to assist
Kelly O: I was 8 months pregnant vacuuming my car out in the front yard and felt
it and heard the boom of it over the vacuum......the bombing happened the day after my
birthday.
Angela P: I was in the 6th grade and was talking to a friend about his mom because
she was suppose to go up there but didn’t!!!
Frank K: I was late for work that day and just barely caught it on the news as I was
leaving. I made light of it when I got to work when I was asked why I was late. I said I was
setting off a bomb. No one knew what I was talking about nor did they know I was joking.
I know. I shouldn’t have joked about it, but that’s my memory of that day.
Kevin G: Watching t.v with my grandma eating breakfast. I was 17

on the radio and found out what had taken place!!!!
Carolyn B: I was in kindergarten. We heard the bomb go off. Everyone ran to the

Traci J: In a college class. 22 yrs old. The professor said it wasn’t a tragedy and we
shouldn’t be so upset. People due every day and just because they do it at once doesn’t
make it a tragedy. Most of the class got up and left. He was a jerk and I remember it like it

An Enid couple was arrested in Perry after they were caught digging through the dumpster of a local hotel on March 30.
Although they were arrested apart, they met back up in jail.
According to the affidavit, a hotel employee contacted Perry police around 12:42 p.m. and said there were some people rummaging through the dumpsters. The officer found a woman matching
the description of one of the suspects sitting in a car at another
hotel.
Enid woman Penny Lynn Chartier, 37, exited the vehicle and
walked toward the officer. She was “very fidgety,” had dilated pupils and was speaking really fast. She admitted to being at the first
hotel the officer went to. She said she was looking for a group of
people she believed set her up.
Chartier’s stories “became more elaborate and changed with each prompt.”
She said her husband had been with her, and he was out looking for the people who were
messing with them. Due to the woman’s odd behavior, he placed her under arrest for public
intoxication. Chartier later admitted to using meth.
In Chartier’s vehicle, the officer found a syringe filled with a clear liquid and some lidocaine
patches. In a purse Chartier identified as hers, he found a baggie containing a white crystallike powder and a spoon. The liquid and powder field-tested positive for meth.
There was also an ID in the car belonging to 42-year-old Terry W. Cooper.
Police found the man walking west across the bridge over I-35 at Exit 185. Cooper told
an officer he had just been kicked off the property of another motel for digging through the
trash. When the officer asked him if he had any weapons, Cooper said he had a knife. He then
shoved his hands in his pockets and threw the contents over the bridge. One of the items was
a clear bag containing a crystal substance.
The officer placed Cooper under arrest and took him to jail.
As fate would have it, they happened to walk in while Chartier was being booked into jail.
Cooper asked her, “What are you doing here?”
Chartier is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and public
intoxication.
Cooper is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and destroying
evidence.
They were both released on $5,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear in court on April
16, 2015.

After Crescent man Joshua Kathrein, 39, allegedly stole a trailer
from a Hennessy residence, he tried to stay out of trouble by unhitching the trailer and rolling it into a ditch when the owner confronted him. But, the deed was done.
On April 12, shortly after 5 p.m., the victim contacted police and
said a man had just stolen a trailer from his driveway. According
to the affidavit, he told a Kingfisher deputy that he saw the suspect leaving his driveway “with his 6X10 foot trailer in tow.” He
added that he followed the suspect, later identified as Kathrein,
into town.
Kathrein must have noticed he was being followed, because he
came to a stop on Cemetery Road and 7th Street and walked to the
passenger side of the man’s vehicle. The man asked Kathrein what
he was doing with his trailer. Kathrein told him another man said he could borrow it. The
man then asked Kathrein why he was driving 100 mph if he was just borrowing the trailer.
Knowing he was caught, Kathrein unhooked the trailer from his truck and rolled it into a
ditch. He then drove southbound on Cemetery Road.
The victim followed the man a bit longer so he could get his tag information. He told police
he never told Kathrein he could use the trailer.
Kathrein is being charged with grand larceny. He was released on a personal recognizance
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 14, 2015.

When a would-be bank robber arrives at his heist destination by
taxi, there’s a pretty good chance the holdup is going to go awry.
Plus, it probably doesn’t help if he’s extremely drunk, too.
That’s exactly what happened when Stanley Geddie rolled up to
a Tallahassee, Fla., bank in a cab, told the manager he had a .357
handgun AND C4 plastic explosives, and demanded $100,000.
Other employees grew concerned when the manager closed his
office door while speaking with Geddie and that’s when police were
contacted.
First, cops approached the taxi driver, who said Geddie was a hot
mess. Not only was the 46-year-old wasted, but he also didn’t pay the
$25.50 fare.
Then, officers surrounded the bank and told Geddie to surrender.
When he refused, police tased him. Court records state that when he was told that he would be shot if
he made any sudden movements Geddie said “well then kill me.”
Thankfully, Geddie was lying about the gun and explosives.
The unsuccessful thief was arrested and charged with robbery, petty theft and resisting arrest.
