A Marlow couple faces felony
charges of abuse in connection with
their two-month-old infant son’s
severe injuries.
The baby’s father, Christopher
Easley, 31, was charged Jan. 22
with child abuse by injury AFCF
in Stephens County District Court.
Just under two weeks later, the
baby’s mother, Jessica Burk, 23, was
charged with enabling child abuse by
injury.
According to the police affidavit,
Easley at first denied causing the
baby’s injuries, but then admitted
to authorities he had been the cause
of his son’s broken bones. He added
that he grabbed the baby’s arm and
put enough pressure on it to have
broken it. Easley said he felt the
arm pop and then the baby yelled
and cried. He then went on to admit
that in the past he had used his
closed fist and applied pressure on
the baby’s stomach and ribs to help
it use the bathroom, and could have
used enough force and pressure to
fractured the baby’s ribs.
Easley also said that in the past he
grabbed the baby by his lower left arm and had heard it make a
popping sound before. He also had grabbed the baby by his left
leg with enough pressure and force to cause the leg to be broken.
When asked about the baby’s injuries during an interview, Burk
told investigators Easley told her that the baby must have hurt
his arm by rolling over and pinning his own arm behind his back.
Later when the baby’s arm became swollen, they transported him
to the Duncan Regional Hospital ER. She also said that she did, in
the past, see Easley use a closed fist to push on the baby’s stomach
and ribs because he was constipated. She also admitted she had
observed Easley spank the baby on his buttocks to discipline
the child. She said she did not report the abuse because she was
scared of Easley and did not want to raise the baby on her own,
according to the affidavit.
Both Easley and Burk remain in the Stephens County Jail in
lieu of $500,000 bond each. Easley preliminary hearing is set for
9 a.m. March 13 and Burk’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for
9 a.m. March 27.

A 33-year-old man was arrested
after he robbed his own uncle and
then shot him twice.
Jeremy Roebuck, of Marlow,
was charged Feb. 1 with conjoint
robbery AFCF, first-degree burglary
AFCF, conspiracy AFCF, and assault
and battery with a deadly weapon.
Roebuck’s accomplice was initially
charged, but was later dismissed
without prejudice. The charges
could, in the future, be brought
before the courts again.
According to the police affidavit,
on Jan. 29, two men entered the victim and his wife’s home
just outside Comanche after they broke the glass from a patio
door. The victim was shot twice and his wife taped to a chair
while the two men robbed the gun safe, which was located in
the living room.
After the pair left, the wife wiggled free from her bonds and
called police. The victim was taken to OU Medical Center
where he underwent treatment for the gunshot wounds.
Two days later, Stephens County Deputy Bobby Bowen
received a call from the wife saying her husband was well
enough to talk with deputies. Bowen spoke with the victim at
the hospital and he said he believed one of the men was his
nephew, Roebuck, and the other was a friend of his nephew’s.
He added he was 99% sure because he recognized Roebuck’s
and his friend’s voices.
Roebuck remains remains in the Stephens County Jail in lieu
of $1 million bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9
a.m. March 27.

A Duncan woman found a new home
at the Stephens County Jail after she was
arrested for refusing to leave her former
home after being evicted.
Christine Dutton, 43, was charged Jan.
30 with trespassing.
According to the police affidavit,
Duncan Police Officers responded to
a home in the 1000 block of N. 7th
Street. The resident, Dutton, had been
previously served a writ of assistance by
the Stephens County Sherriff’s office to
vacate the premises. Because of the cold
weather and the fact she had no place to
go, Dutton was allowed to spend the night inside the residence, but
was told that she had to leave the next day.
The next day at about 11:00 a.m., Officers Woods, Perkins, and
Pollock responded to the same address because Dutton had not left.
Woods made contact with Dutton, but she slammed the door in his
face after he told her she had to go. Woods went inside and noticed
a claw hammer within Dutton’s immediate reach. After a brief
confrontation, she agreed to leave. He then told her twice that if she
returned the house, she would be arrested for trespassing.
The day after that, at about 9:15 a.m., Officers Wainscott, Pollock
and Woods responded to the same address again when the workers
for the landlord called. Dutton was at the residence. Woods asked
Dutton why she was there and she said she was waiting on the electric
department. When he asked her if she remembered him telling her
that she would be arrested if she came back, she said no. Woods then
told her that the landlord had filed a complaint on her and that she
was under arrest for trespassing. Wainscott placed handcuffs on her
and as he put her in the car she said “F**k you, Glen Campbell!”
Dutton was transported to the Stephens County Jail where she
was booked in.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Under cover drug agents defuse a mini meth lab found inside a
porta-potty in the middle of a golf course in Purcell.
Staffers noticed strange sports drink bottles with chemicals inside
the porta-potty and called police.
Officers arrived and soon realized someone had been inside making
meth using the “shake and bake” method.
Three bottles were found, two of them exploded before detectives
arrived.
Agents were able to neutralize the third one without the harmful
chemicals erupting.
“If someone would have been in the porta-pot when it happened
they might have gotten hurt by the flying plastic and the chemicals,”
Purcell Dt. Cpl. Scott Stephens said.
Investigators said they have a lead on one suspect but said they believe others could be
involved.
The inside of the unit was damaged but agents were able to submit latent fingerprints to a
crime lab.

A Grady County inmate got an
Oklahoma City woman in trouble
from jail Feb. 5.
District Six Drug Task Force
investigator David Gatlin reported
speaking with a Grady County jailer,
who said Grant Curry, an inmate,
approached her asking for Oxy
tablets. Curry told the jailer she
could make money by transporting
the tablets.
The next day, the jailer wore a wire
during work and spoke to Curry.
She also gave officers a note from
him, which had two phone numbers and said to ask for “Jess” or
“Danielle.” In the recordings, Curry said he would pay the jailer
$150 for 12 pills. They agreed he would have the pills by Sunday
of that week.
The jailer then spoke to Jessica McClung, who said she would
meet at the McDonalds near mile marker 85 to make the deal. At
the McDonald’s, McClung gave the jailer a package of pills and
the $150, and she was promptly arrested. Curry’s mother was also
taken into custody, but she has not received criminal charges.
McClung declined to speak in an interview, but Curry’s mother
said said she drove McClung to meet with someone so she could
give money, which would go to her son.
McClung has a previous conviction in Custer County for
possession of a controlled substance, which she received in 2011.
A judge in that case handed down a five-year deferred sentence.
McClung is in custody on a $200,000 bond. In her newest case,
she faces between four years to life in prison. She has court set for
1:30 p.m. March 6.

Tuttle police officers arrested a Yukon
man Feb. 7 after he went on a weeklong
stealing spree in the area.
Officer Steven Wylie was dispatched
to the Sooner State Bank just before 4
p.m. that day after someone called about
a fraudulent check. The suspect was
described as a white male in a two-door
Chevrolet who used the drive-thru lane.
When Wylie arrived on scene, he saw a
car matching the description, so he pulled
the driver over. The driver identified
himself as Shane, but he handed Wylie a
license for another person. The man said he was “making a withdraw”
for his friend, but further questioning revealed a slip-up.
Wylie approached the teller, who gave him the forged check and an
Oklahoma ID card belonging to Shane, but the picture didn’t match
the suspect’s description. At that point, the man said his name was
not Shane but told the officer he had a friend named Shane. The
man’s real name was Erik Vanhofwegen, he said.
Perhaps Vanhofwegen hid his identity because he knew he had
outstanding felony warrants, a fact Wylie discovered upon a check
of police records. Vanhofwegen was arrested for the warrants and
presenting a false ID.
In an interview, Vanhofwegen said he has received $1,800 from
fraudulent transactions, saying he had Shane’s ID because he used
it at the casino. The driver’s license he had belonged to the owner of
the Chevrolet, Vanhofwegen said.
The real Shane signed an affidavit saying Vahofwegen stole his
Oklahoma ID while staying at his house Jan. 27. The owner of the
car said Vanhofwegen drove his car away without consent while they
were at Williams grocery store.
Vanhofwegen faces charges of four counts of forgery, one count
of false personation and one count of grand theft auto. He remains
in custody on $100,000 bond and will appear in court at 1:30 p.m.

Dude! That’s just rude!
A Tuttle man is in custody after
police say he took his drunken rage
to a whole new level Jan. 20.
Officer Jason Lanier responded
to a hit and run accident just after
3 a.m. that day in the 1400 block
of Indian Creek Drive. The caller
said his friend brought three other
people to hang out with them. He
said he was inside the residence
when Joshua White, 29, walked
out the front door.
Believing White was going
outside for a beer, the man asked
White for a drink, but only got a “f--- you” in response. White
continued to be a rude guest, so the man asked him to leave
the house. The suspect, not liking that much, punched the
driver’s side window of the man’s car, then got into his car,
backed down the driveway and hit his mirror on a fence post.
White suddenly accelerated toward him in the yard, but the
man jumped out of the way in time. However, White did a 360
degree turn and hit three other people with the vehicle.
Lanier spoke to another man on the scene, who said White
ran over his right leg in the incident. One of the other men on
the scene was too drunk to speak, but he had a large cut on his
hand from the altercation. White was nowhere to be found at
the scene.
White was arrested Jan. 23 on a $250,000 bond. He faces
charges of assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the
influence (his third DUI charge), and leaving the scene of an
accident.
White has a preliminary hearing set for 2:30 p.m. May 22.

In this installment of Tips From
a Trooper, I’m going to talk about a
violation that we see every day. It
is something I am sure most of my
readers have done, many times, without giving it another thought. I
doubt if most have even considered it to be unsafe, much less illegal,
but it is. The violation is passing on the shoulder, and it happens all
the time.
The car ahead of you is stopped in the lane of traffic, and you see the
left turn signal on. Its not turning because of oncoming traffic, which
it must yield to before turning, so you just slide your vehicle over to
the right, onto the shoulder, or maybe even just the widened part of
the road where the intersection is, and pass right by them. Maybe you
slowed down a little, just to be safe, or maybe not. You are in a hurry,
and don’t want to slow down to wait for traffic to clear. Doesn’t seem
like a big deal does it? Well, passing on the shoulder is illegal, and
can be a very dangerous situation!
The Statute governing this scenario is actually in the section that
states when passing on the right is permitted...it gives a few examples,
one of which is when a vehicle is preparing to make a left hand turn.
Sounds like its covered and should be legal, right? The last sentence
of this Statute is where you find the restriction for passing on the
shoulder.
It states:
The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass another
vehicle upon the right only under conditions permitting such
movement in safety. In no event shall such movement be made
by driving off the pavement or main traveled portion of the
roadway.
Statute also defines roadway for us: That portion of highway
improved, designed or ordinarily used for vehicular travel, exclusive
of the shoulder.
The reason for this Statute is simple, and for this exact scenario...
not only is the vehicle in front of you turning left, but the oncoming
vehicle is also going to turn left, and visibility of your vehicle is
blocked by the stopped one, which makes a blind spot, and the
potential for the oncoming vehicle to turn left in front of you, just as
you are passing the other vehicle! We work accidents where this is the
causation all the time, and they can all be prevented by obeying this
law, and practicing some patience! How much time do you think you
actually save when doing this, anyway? Next time you see someone
do it, watch and see if you don’t catch them at the next traffic light...
they really didn’t save anything, and a couple of seconds aren’t worth
risking an accident and a life.
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!
