Former Kanye West and Drake joined forces tonight for the “Free Larry Hoover” concert. The benefit concert was set for prison and sentencing reform and was live-streamed on Amazon Music and Prime Video. The concert was also in select Imax theaters. The live show was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Ye had not performed a stadium show for a few years while this was Drake’s first live show since Astroworld Festival in November.
Larry Hoover was a co-founder of Chicago’s Gangster Disciples street gang, known for serving multiple life sentences in his involvement in murder, money laundering, extortion, and more.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Hoover is often compared to mobster Al Capone in that he renounced his association with the Chicago’s Gangster Disciples. In 2018, Ye spoke with President Trump, requesting clemency for Hoover.
Hoover’s son was featured on Ye’s latest album, “Donda.” According to reports, Ye and Drake had a conflict, and Ye wanted to resolve their differences. During the “Free Larry Hoover” concert, Drake mentioned his appreciation for joining forces with Ye, expressing that walking through the arches with him by his side was surreal.
