CAR THEFT LEADS TO THE DEATH OF A KANSAS OFFICER

FAIRWAY, Kan. – On Aug. 6, Lenexa Police Department, Fairway Police Department, Mission Police Department, and Kansas Highway Patrol joined forces because of a suspected car theft incident; to their horror, it did not end well.

Lenexa officers were notified of a stolen vehicle off W. 95th Street and I-35 on that fateful day. Once officers spotted the car, they began pursuing it northbound on I-35

The car stopped in Mission, where police witnessed two suspects flee the vehicle and enter a QuickTrip.

Multiple agencies got involved in an attempt to arrest 32-year-old Andrea Rene Cothran and 40-year-old Shannon Wayne Marshall.

Gunfire broke out between the suspects and the officers.

Male suspect, Marshall, was shot and killed at the scene along with 29-year-old Officer Jonah Oswald, a 4-year veteran of Fairway Police Department.

Cothran was taken into custody and booked into the Johnson County Adult Detention Center. The Johnson County OICIIT is handling the ongoing investigation.

Cothran is a registered sex offender in Tennessee where she pled guilty of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor in 2020.
