Footprints in snow lead police to burglary suspect

While most of Oklahoma was hunkered down avoiding the freezing temps this past week, Michael Nelson was out and about taking advantage of people staying in their homes on February 17.

Unfortunately for him, the crazy weather is exactly what gave him away.

According to reports, Tulsa police were dispatched to a neighborhood near Union Avenue and West 61st Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. to investigate reports of some cars being broken into.

When they arrived, they saw some fresh footprints in the snow between several houses.

Officers followed the footprints and found Nelson hiding out behind an air conditioning unit.

Nelson had a bag with him that contained stolen items belonging to several victims.

The items were returned to the rightful owners.

Surveillance video also caught Nelson in the act, along with another man.

The footage showed the man break into four vehicles and try to break into another.

Nelson was arrested on complaint of four counts of burglary of vehicle and attempted burglary of vehicle. Bond information and court date were unavailable at time of publication.
