Lottery ticket thief arrested

OKLAHOMA CITY – A 21-year-old man who allegedly stole more than $40,000 worth of lottery tickets back in January is behind bars after Oklahoma City police officers arrested him on Mar. 2.

According to reports, the OKCPD asked the public for help in identifying the suspect.

In a social media post published on Jan. 15, the police department stated, “You may or may not recognize this man, as we’ve posted his photos before. This time, we have much clearer photos of him…specifically his identifiable tattoos.  Last time we posted, he had stolen several lottery tickets. Now, he’s graduated to stealing entire towers of lottery tickets. As of today, he’s hit seven times, totaling over $40K in tickets.”

The man was identified “VERY quickly,” but officers did not immediately place him under arrest.

A statement on the police department’s page revealed that the Violent Crimes Apprehension Team finally arrested Dylan Barrett after a “pursuit-turned-foot-chase.”

According to the statement, “While [Barrett] could run…he couldn’t hide.”

Officers found the man hiding in the back of a pickup truck.

Barrett faces multiple charges related to the pursuit. He is also facing charges related to the $40,000 worth of stolen lottery tickets.

Bond information and court date were unavailable at the time of publication.
