Man sets mattress on fire to protest bed bugs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas— A man has set fire to a mattress in response to motel management ignoring bed bugs in his room.

On September 2, the Wichita Falls fire department responded to a call about smoke and fire coming from a room at the Catalina Motel.

Inside, firefighters found a mattress on fire and the occupant, Michael Culipher, sitting nearby with soot on his hands and face.

Culipher admitted to lighting the mattress on fire with lighter fluid because the management wouldn’t respond to his complaints about bed bugs.

Since the fire was set intentionally, Culipher was charged with a first-degree felony of arson involving habitation. His bond is set at $25,000. (Texomas)
