SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.– Sevierville police charged two people with animal cruelty after an incident involving two monkeys in Sevierville, Tennessee.
Officers responded to Soaky Mountain Waterpark’s parking lot to find two marmoset monkeys inside a hot car.
A 9-week-old monkey was deceased at the scene and the other, a 5-week-old marmoset, was in distress.
Owners of the monkeys, 54-year-old Nova Brettell, and David Brettell, 54, are reportedly from Warsaw, Indiana.
Authorities rushed the 5-week-old monkey to Appalachian Animal Hospital. The young primate was found to be suffering from extreme dehydration. According to reports, the treatment is, however, serving its purpose and improving the marmoset’s condition.
While Nova and David are both charged with animal cruelty, police say there may be additional charges in the pipeline. (KFOR)
