fighting fire with fire
Investigators with the Canadian County
Sheriff’s Office arrested Skyler Terrell, 24, Monday, August 6, after he began graphic sexual
communication with an undercover investigator he believed was a 14-year-old female in Canadian County.
Terrell used a popular social media website
to communicate with the decoy.
Skyler Terrell, who is a volunteer firefighter
from Custer City, began communicating with
what he thought was a 14-year-old female.
Terrell began talking with the decoy Sunday,
August 5, and the conversation became sexually graphic. Terrell told the decoy about how he would “take it easy” and
for the 14-year-old girl to “wear something sexy”. Terrell explained to the
decoy he wanted to have sex with her in his truck.
During the investigation, Terrell wanted to meet the decoy and got off
of work early to drive to Oklahoma City to meet the 14-year-old female.
Terrell explained to the decoy he wanted to have sex with her and sent a
photograph of his private area.
“Terrell progressed quickly, he had his mind on raping a 14-year-old
child. When he showed up to the meet location, he had condoms ready to
act out his disgusting fantasy,” said Chris West, Canadian County Sheriff
Terrell told the undercover investigator he would be in the area by four
o’clock p.m. and was ready to pick her up. The location was determined
and Canadian County Deputies waited for Terrell to arrive. Like clockwork,
Terrell showed up to the meet location, scanning the area to find his prey.
Investigators quickly surrounded Terrell’s vehicle and placed him into custody.
Terrell admitted to investigators he was talking sexually to what he believed was a 14-year-old female. Terrell stated he knew it was illegal and
wrong to talk to a child sexually. Terrell also told the investigator the location of the condoms he brought, along with the password to his cellular
phone. Investigators will apply for a search warrant before the phone is
forensically examined.
“I believe if it was not for the ICAC program, monsters like Skyler Terrell
would go undetected and prey on our children. I am glad he is behind bars
and taken from the streets where our children walk every day.” said Chris
West.
Skyler Terrell was booked into the Canadian County Jail on the charge
of Lewd Acts with a Child. Terrell’s bond was set at $50,000. The Sheriff’s
Internet Crimes against Children unit continues to operate under the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations ICAC Task Force.

8 | AUGUST 2018 Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty CANADIAN COUNTY
Phillip Williams was an unhappy consumer. So he stopped two Tampa, Florida, police officers, handed over his crack pipe, and asked if they
wouldn’t mind testing the crack cocaine that he’d bought earlier, just to
make sure it was the real deal. Good news! It was. Bad news! They arrested him.
A 17-year-old suspected arsonist approached a car in Lambertville,
Michigan, intending to siphon gas from it. What he forgot to do was ask
permission from the detective sitting in the front seat.
When Sheboygan, Wisconsin, police pulled over a car for not having
proper registration, a passenger did what many criminals do — he supplied the cops with an alias. Bad move. Turns out, that particular alias was
wanted for vehicular homicide.
Alexander D. Smith walked into an Augusta, Georgia, bank and tried
to open an account with a $1 million bill. Great idea — except there is no
such thing as a $1 million bill.
Two machete-wielding men barged into a Sydney, Australia, bar demanding money. Because they didn’t know the club was hosting a bikers’
meeting, one ended up in the hospital, the other hog-tied with electrical
wire.
Convicted of receiving stolen property, James Wombles, 37, had to
wear an ankle bracelet as part of his parole. The bracelet came complete
with a GPS monitoring system that let cops track his every move. Over
the course of a few weeks, the Riverside, Ohio, man allegedly broke into
six homes. You know where this is going — just as the cops knew where
Wombles was going. Following the signals from his bracelet, they tracked
him to his car, where they found him sitting on the stolen booty.
When Ellis Cleveland was arrested in Honolulu, a detective informed him
he was suspected of robbing four banks. “Four?” responded Cleveland,
according to the detective’s affidavit. “I didn’t do four; I only robbed three
banks.”

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!
Medical marijuana has been approved by the people
of Oklahoma, yet our governmental officials and people
who think they know what’s best for us have once
again decided to rewrite what we voted on. What’s
your opinion on this issue?
These comments are only just a fraction we had on our Facebook Page. Read
more by going to our page.
___________________________________________________________________
Ryan S: This was a very badly written bill, and no one wanted to
acknowledge it. So you got what you voted for.
Robert S: I want everything I voted for, no changes just what I
voted for. Go after Meth if you want to help Oklahoma
Matthew M: I knew exactly what I voted for and, if they would’ve
left it alone, there wouldn’t be any problems.
Chris D: Actually Ryan Scott what we voted for was a medication
that had no regulations nor profit margin for big pharma. A natural
solution to the chemicals we have been forced to take. It defined
that we were able to have both smokable and edible forms.
Chris R: The bill was written quite intelligently. The “reefer
madness” stigma is a load of hogwash. Cannabis is far from
dangerous and for the inexperienced the concentrates and edibles
may well be far too potent.
Kris C: Only people who claim 788 was poorly written are
brainwashed with government propaganda. You people are
partially responsible for the opioid epidemic FYI
Rich C: It wasnt written to ban the smoking of the medication. It
was a very broad explanation of how it would be presented to the
public that ill agree with. But making it on the terms they now are
presenting is way off of the presentation that most understood.
Richard J: ...the state effectively kept mmj illegal with their rules,
and that goes 100% against what was voted in. A pharmacist will
lose their license if they dispense, and it would shoot the cost up
dramatically.
Darci T: It’s very simple. The people voted for a policy that gives
the patient and their doctor the power to decide about dosage
and the best method to take the medicine. The patient and their
doctor. The state ruled against the will and the vote of the people.
Whether you’re for mmj or against it, the state has gone against the
vote. It’s wrong and brings the legitimacy of the state government
in question. Mmj is a medicine and people have a right to use it.
Will it be mis-used? Yes. Most good things are misused but we
don’t outlaw them bc of misuse, examples: opioids, food stamps,
welfare, unemployment, SS disability, Medicare, etc.
Erica V: Agree! Well said.
JC J: Actually, we voted for a law that allowed the state Health
Dept. to enact bureaucratic regulations, which is what they are
doing.
Rich C: Bingo
Howard C: And all medicines are regulated which, was called for
in your ballot question
Dylan M: The reason we live in a democracy is to allow those
to vote for their own freedoms, as we should be governed by the
people- not by unelected officials on boards who have ties with the
lawmakers. They knew it would pass, but this is exactly why Mary
Fallin didn’t want to allow a special session in the house, she knew
they would put extreme measures in place.
Mike G: We live in a constitutional Republic ..
Dorothy T: She knew exactly what she was doing when she
appointed the panel she did. She knew what she was going to do
the moment she decided not to hold a special session. I can’t even
put on Facebook what I think of her!
POLL
12 | AUGUST 2018 BECKHAM COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
august is back to school
safety month
As summer draws to a close and
children start heading back to school,
family life can get pretty hectic. It’s
important to remember – and share
with your children – some key tips that
will help keep them safe and healthy
throughout the school year.
Getting to School
Whether children walk, ride their bicycle or take the bus to school, it is vitally
important that they – and the motorists around them – take proper safety precautions.
Walkers:
• Walk on the sidewalk; if there is no sidewalk and you must walk in the street,
walk facing traffic
• Before crossing the street, stop and look left, right and left again to see if cars
are coming
• Never dart out in front of a parked car
• Parents: Practice walking to school with your child, crossing streets at cros
walks when available
• Never walk while texting or talking on the phone
• Do not walk while using headphones
Bike Riders:
• Always wear a helmet that is fitted and secured properly
• Children need to know the rules of the road: Ride single file on the right side
of the road, come to a complete stop before crossing the street and walk the
bike across
• Watch for opening car doors and other hazards
• Use hand signals when turning
• Wear bright-colored clothing
Bus Riders:
• Teach children the proper way to get on and off the bus
• Line up 6 feet away from the curb as the bus approaches
• If seat belts are available, buckle up
• Wait for the bus to stop completely before standing
• Do not cross in front of the bus if possible, or walk at least 10 feet ahead until
you can see the other drivers
Drivers, Share the Road:
• Don’t block crosswalks
• Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and take extra care in school zones
• Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians
• Never pass a bus loading or unloading children
• The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop
far enough back to allow them to safely enter and exit the bus

when sparks fly
An intoxicated Cordell man was locked
up after he allegedly attacked an officer and
threatened a woman on July 8.
According to the police report, a woman
contacted police shortly after 3 p.m. and said
57-year-old Joey Dean Taylor was drunk and
outside her house, yelling and screaming that
he was going to kill her. The woman told dispatch that the man left her property when she
called police, and she didn’t think he would
return.
Well, he did.
Around 4:04 p.m., the woman called again
and said Taylor was back. Dispatch could
hear the man yelling in the background.
A Washita County deputy went to the woman’s home in the 300 block of E.
Orient in Dill City to see what was going on. He met with the woman, who said
Taylor was lying under a tree in her backyard. When a deputy approached the
man, Taylor was uncooperative and refused to roll onto his stomach. He also
kicked the deputy in the leg.
Other officers assisted in placing the man in handcuffs and in the patrol car,
although Taylor fought and struggled the entire time.
On the way to jail, Taylor lunged at the deputy while he was driving. The
deputy stunned the man with a taser. Taylor calmed down a bit, but he continued verbally threatening the officer until they arrived at the jail.
Taylor is being charged with assault and battery upon a police officer and
public intoxication. His bond was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 11, 2018.

basket of goodies
Two people were taken into custody after
they stole a basket of goodies from the Family
Dollar store in Geary.
According to a Geary Police Department report, on July 16th at approximately 11:55 am,
Geary Police officers were called to the Family
Dollar store located in the 100 block of North
Broadway for a report of shoplifting. When officers arrived, and store employees reported
to officers that a male and female had left the
store with a basket full of merchandise without
paying for it. Store employees provided officers
a description of the two suspects and a vehicle
description.
Shortly thereafter, Officers located the vehicle
at South Choctaw and Southeast South Street,
where they attempted to conduct a traffic stop
with it. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop,
and officers initiated a pursuit eastbound on
Highway 270 at normal highway speeds. Officers were able to get the vehicle to stop at
Highway 270 and Niles Road.
Officers contacted the driver, identified as
33-year-old Timothy Elliott, of Del City, and a
passenger, identified as 22-year-old Erin McNeal of Lindsey.
Officers located the basket of stolen merchandise in the back seat of the vehicle and learned Elliott was driving
with a suspended driver’s license. Officers also learned the tag on Elliott’s
vehicle was not the correct tag for the vehicle.
Elliott was arrested and was booked into the Geary Municipal jail on Municipal charges of shoplifting, eluding an officer, driving with a suspended
driver’s license and improper tag display.
McNeal was also arrested and booked into the Geary Municipal jail on
Municipal charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance,
possession of drug paraphernalia after they located these items in her
possession. Officers also charged McNeal with destroying evidence after
officers observed her throwing what appeared to be a controlled dangerous substance out of the car window just prior to them stopping.
McNeal also had an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the District
Courts for Grady and Cleveland Counties and she was held for their warrants.
The stolen merchandise was returned to Family Dollar.
