truck driver’s blues
A truck driver out of North Carolina was arrested in Canadian County after officers found drugs
in his semi on June 8.
According to reports, Canadian County deputies stopped the driver, identified as 31-year-old
Irvin Rodriguez, along I-40 near Radio Road at
approximately 1:30 a.m.
During the traffic stop, a K9 alerted to the presence of illegal drugs in the truck. The drugs were
found under the bed in the sleeper compartment.
Deputies located a total of 62 pounds of cocaine that was individually wrapped in 23 bundles.
At first, Rodriguez denied having any drugs
in his vehicle. When deputies advised they had
found the drugs, the man replied, “They are going
to kill me.”
The man was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Rodriguez is being charged with aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs. His
bond was set at $50,000.

OSBI ARRESTS MAN ON CHILD SEXUAL
ABUSE CHARGE
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) assist with an investigation into child
sexual abuse allegations. On June 15, the OSBI
began the investigation after the Sheriff’s Office
became aware that a relative was sexually abusing two underage girls. The suspect, 26-year-old
Steven Fortney, abused one girl between March
of 2011 and March of 2103 when she was 11 to
12-years-old. The other incident occurred in the
fall of 2019 and involved a girl that was 15-yearsold. The abuse took place at a residence on Old
Highway 7 in Duncan.
Fortney was arrested on June 18, 2020 and booked into the Stephens
County Jail on one count of Child Sexual Abuse and one count of Lewd
or Indecent Proposals to a Child Under 16. His bond is set at $500,000.

Elk City man Alonso Gustavo Garcia, 34, is facing several felony charges after he allegedly hid in a
woman’s car and assaulted her late last month.
Reports state that when the woman left work, she
noticed that her car door was open. She didn’t see
anyone in the front or back seat of the SUV, but she
didn’t check the luggage area.
The woman got behind the wheel of her vehicle
– when she looked in the rear view mirror, she saw
Garcia in the back.
The two started arguing. During the altercation,
Garcia allegedly slapped the woman in the face.
The woman took off driving and stopped near a grocery store. She
jumped out of the vehicle and went looking for help. When she glanced
back at her vehicle, she saw that Garcia had also got out of the SUV and
was walking in the opposite direction.
She went back to her vehicle and drove to the Elk City Police Department, where she reported the crime. Garcia was arrested a short time later.
Garcia is being charged with burglary in the third degree, stalking and
domestic abuse – assault and battery. His bond was set at $75,000, and
he is scheduled to appear in court on July 27, 2020.

SPECIAL DELIVERY
Two out-of-towners were taken into custody after they
attempted to make a contraband prison drop at Northfork
Correctional Center but they were thwarted by a DOC investigator.
Hershell Eugene Anderson, 28, of Oklahoma City, was
charged June 23 with conspiracy, eluding/attempting to
elude police officer, and two counts of unlawful possession of controlled drug with intent to distribute, in Beckham
County District Court.
Also charged was Craig Allen Coile, 37, of Pryor, with
conspiracy and two counts of unlawful possession of controlled drug with intent to distribute.
According to the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a pursuit that resulted when a Dept. of
Corrections investigator attempted to stop two men that
appeared to be trying to get packages over the fence at
Northfork Correctional Center near Sayre.
The DOC investigator chased the vehicle at speeds of
up to 100 mph, eventually losing sight of the vehicle on a
county road northwest of Elk City.
Sheriff’s Office personnel located the vehicle a few moments later just about a mile from where the investigator
lost sight of it.
“The investigator had given a very good description and
last known location of the car,” Sheriff Derek Manning said.
“That allowed us to set up in the right location and to know
what we were looking for.”
Manning said the car pulled over to the shoulder about
a half mile away when it saw a Sheriff’s Office patrol truck.
“The driver then bailed out on foot and ran across the
pasture,” Manning said, “which was kind of interesting to
watch because the cows in the pasture became curious when they saw him running and
took off after him while we arrested the passenger, who had remained in the car. It was quite
a parade there for a minute or two. It also made it easier to keep an eye on where he went.”
Manning said the driver was arrested a few minutes later by a deputy who had driven to
the other side of the field to head him off.
“We also impounded the vehicle, which had packages inside that are commonly used to
throw contraband over the fence at the prison,” Manning said. “Our detectives and deputies
will be working with the Office of the Inspector General at DOC to try and determine who the
bundles were intended for.”
Manning said the contraband drops are usually directed by, and done for the benefit of,
various prison gangs. “Which is why we take them so seriously,” he said. “These drops are a
danger to our local residents, and they’re a danger to staff inside the prison, so we go after
them pretty hard when we receive information they’re occurring.”
Manning said the pursuit itself reached felony levels when the fleeing vehicle almost struck
at least two other motorists at intersections during the pursuit.
Sheriff Manning said OHP and Elk City PD also responded to the pursuit. “This was definitely a group effort, like they usually are. It’s not very often that you look up and see just one
kind of uniform at the scene when these things are all done.”
Bond for both men was set at $25,000.

A 44-year-old Hunter man is being charged with
assault after he allegedly shot a woman after she
took a Nazi swastika flag from his property on
June 28.
According to reports, Garfield County deputies were dispatched to a home near Missouri
and Cherokee at approximately 3 a.m. to investigate shots fired. When they arrived, they found a
26-year-old woman lying in a ditch. She had been
shot and had several gunshot wounds.
Reports say a party was going on near the home
when the woman tried to steal one of the flags. The
owner of the Nazi flags, Alexander John Feaster,
allegedly shot the woman and went back into his house.
While searching the man’s home, officers recovered 14 weapons and
some ammunition. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with investigating the incident.
The victim was airlifted to the OU Medical Center.
Feaster is being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Bond and court information were unavailable at time of print.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Summer Warning Involving
Children and the Internet
Summer is here and many children are now home alone with
Internet-capable devices. The
Oklahoma Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force wants parents
to exercise caution when allowing
children to use those devices.
In 2015, nearly 1,000 instances
of child sexual exploitation were reported to the OSBI through the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cybertipline, with each case
involving the use of computers, apps, chats, or social media.
Parents are urged to consider the following tips:
• Monitor your child’s usage of electronic devices such as
cell phones, tablets, readers, web cams, and laptops, as well as their usage of apps, games, and social media accounts. Do not allow this usage to be private. Instead, children should use these in open areas of the
home, such as the living room or kitchen.
• Although strangers are a threat, oftentimes children are
exploited by people they know. A large number of child pornography images are taken by the children themselves and sent to others they know or
think they know.
• Utilize device and software parental controls, as well as
safety features available for your children’s devices and apps. Parents are
also encouraged to communicate openly about online activity with their
children.
Young people should be able to identify risky behavior and know what to
do if something bad happens. It is important parents and guardians remain
approachable about this topic – kids should never fear a parent’s reaction more than they fear the misbehavior and/or consequences of people
online.
Ask your child:
• Where do you spend most of your time online?
• What is your favorite app or video game right now?
• Who do you game or communicate with the most?
• How do you decide who gets to follow or friend you?
• What do you share, post, download, upload, and view?
• Can I review your profile with you?
• What would you do if you encounter behavior or communication that makes you uncomfortable?
If your child is the victim of sexual misconduct online or you observe this
type of behavior, immediately report the incident to www.cybertipline.com,
the OSBI, or local law enforcement.

Denton, Maupin plead guilty in 2018
shooting death of man
Royce Eugene Denton, 37, and 21-year-old
Jessica Marie Maupin, both of Woodward,
pled guilty to their roles in the 2018 shooting
death of a 22-year-old man.
Maupin pled guilty on February 13, 2020.
Denton pled guilty on June 25, 2020.
According to reports, Maupin accused the
victim of stealing some money from during a
party at a home owned by Maupin’s father.
Maupin messaged her boyfriend, identified
as Denton, about the altercation. Denton and
the victim argued about the money, and the
victim allegedly pointed a gun at Denton.
Denton and Maupin left the party. Denton
returned later with a gun and shot the victim.
Reports state Maupin and Denton then left
the scene.
Maupin allegedly told Denton to dispose of
both guns, which Denton had grabbed before leaving the house.
Maupin pled guilty to accessory to felony
– murder in the first degree. She was sentenced to a term of 40 years with all but the
first 15 years suspended, with months served
counting toward her sentence.
Denton pled guilty to the charge of murder
in the first degree with malice aforethought.
He was sentenced to life in prison with the
possibility of parole.

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty WOODS COUNTY 23 | JULY 2020

A 31-year-old Shawnee man is facing
felony charges after he allegedly tried to
meet up with someone he thought was a
15-year-old girl.
Joseph Daniel Fletcher also allegedly told
the underage girl he wanted to kiss her.
According to reports, a Woods County
deputy saw an interesting video on social
media at approximately 9:25 p.m. on June
23. In the video, a man confronted a person called “Joe” outside of an Alva convenience store. “Joe” was there to pick up a
15-year-old girl and take her to a motel.
In the video, Joe was holding a Mountain
Dew and Snapple Apple. He drove away
from the store in a black truck.
The deputy looked up the license plate on the truck and determined it
belonged to Fletcher. He spoke to the other man in the video, who said
his organization exposes adults who message children for sexual intent.
The man said “Joe” had been communicating with what he thought was
an underage girl. Joe had told the teen he wanted to kiss her and “watch
Netflix and chill.” The suspect was temporarily staying in Alva for work.
Officers found Fletcher and asked him about the incident.
Fletcher admitted to talking to “Maggie,” who he believed was a 15-yearold girl. He said they had been planning to hang out for a couple of weeks.
While Fletcher said he did tell the girl he wanted to kiss her, he said he
didn’t say anything to her regarding sexual activity. He said he knew what
he did was wrong. He also told “Maggie” it wasn’t a good idea to meet up
with her.
Fletcher said he texted the girl on his phone but had deleted the messages.
In the man’s vehicle, officers found a Mountain Dew bottle. When they
asked where the Snapple Apple bottle was, he told them he drank it.
Officers recovered the conversations between Fletcher and the man acting as “Maggie.”
“Maggie” told Fletcher that she was 15 years old several times. Fletcher
also asked the girl for pictures and if she would video chat. When they arranged a meeting, Fletcher asked “Maggie” what she wanted to drink. She
told him Snapple Apple.
Fletcher is being charged with violation of OK statute via computer and
soliciting sexual conduct or communication with minor by use of technology. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on August 11, 2020.
