We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

June’s Officer of the Month Award goes to…
Athena • Pushmataha County
Athena
Officer of the Month
Athena is a K-9 Officer with the Pushmataha
County Sheriff’s Office. She was nominated for
her loyalty and quick action when a deputy
was being assaulted by a suspect. She is one of
three K-9 officers the county has on the street.
On April 8, Antlers dispatch radioed that an
officer needed help on NE A Street in Antlers.
The suspect, Barney Sutterfield, was being
placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant
when he ran from police. After a Pushmahata
deputy later located Satterfield, Satterfield
again resisted arrest and tried to escape. Several times Satterfield was warned to stop resisting or the deputy would release his K-9,
Athena, and he would be bitten. Satterfield did
not heed the warning and began kicking the officer. On her own, Athena bit Sattefield on the
leg. Athena’s actions forced Satterfield to stop assaulting the deputy and taken into custody.
Because of Athena’s quick action, she has been named OK Jailbird’s Top Cop for June, 2014.

Erin Marie Wells, of Yukon, pled guilty May 12 to check
forgery and signing a false federal income tax return.
From 2009 until mid-2013, Wells was employed as the
office manager of Advanced Electric, located in Oklahoma City. She was responsible for paying the company’s
bills, depositing checks into the company bank account,
and maintaining the company’s books and records. Today she pled guilty to forging the signature of the company’s owner on a $1,500 check and using the proceeds
for her personal benefit. In a plea agreement, she has
agreed to pay restitution to the company in the amount
of $256,857.76.
In addition to pleading guilty to forgery, Wells has pled guilty to signing a false tax return.
She admitted that on January 11, 2013, she signed a personal federal tax return for the 2012
calendar year that she knew was false because it reported only $28,386 in total income, substantially less than the income she actually received.
As a result of her conviction for forgery, Wells faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of
supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and mandatory restitution. With respect to the tax conviction, she faces up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a $250,000
fine. Sentencing will take place in approximately 90 days.

As the weather starts to warm
up, recreational thoughts naturally
turn to the wonderful lakes
and other waterways in the state of Oklahoma. Along with the
increase of activity in and around the water, comes the potential
for drownings or near drownings, most of which can be prevented
with the use of Personal Floatation Devices. I’ve talked about them
before, but a refresher never hurts, so here goes!
First, let me just say that there are 5 types of PFDs. I’m not
going to get into their descriptions, just which types are required
for what situation. All PFDs must be U.S. Coast Guard approved,
and used in accordance with their label. The label will also state
the type. All vessels must carry one wearable (Type I, II, III,
or V) USCG approved PFD for each person on board or being
towed. In addition to that, vessels 16 feet in length or longer
must have one Type IV USCG approved PFD on board and readily
accessible. Oklahoma Law requires that all children under 13 years
of age wear an approved PFD whenever underway in a vessel less
than 26 feet in length. Each person on a personal watercraft or
sailboard must wear an approved PFD. Anyone being towed on
water skis or similar devices must wear an approved PFD. Ski belts
are not approved PFDs.
Now, besides being USCG approved, all PFDs must be: In good
serviceable condition. They must also be readily accessible. Readily
accessible means you must be able to put the PFD on in a reasonable
amount of time in an emergency. PFDs should not be stowed in
plastic bags, in locked compartments, or have other gear stowed on
top of them. They must also be of the proper size for the intended
wearer. Sizing for PFDs is based on body weight and chest size. A
good way to test this, especially for children, is to put it on, adjust
the straps, and have the wearer raise their arms up, and try to pull
it up off them. If it can come off, it is not the right size for the
wearer.
Those are the requirements, so now lets talk about the
suggestions. If you have children in or around water, make
sure they have a PFD on. Air mattresses, floaties, and other toy
floatation objects don’t count. There have been way too many
stories of toddlers near the water’s edge falling in and drowning,
and these could be prevented by following this suggestion. Also,
keep a watchful eye on those kids...even if they are only out of
your sight for a few seconds, its long enough for them to get in
trouble around the water. Last, wear one on boats even if you don’t
have to. In an emergency, you may not have enough time to put it

A Weatherford woman who was three
sheets to the wind when a state trooper
found her with her car in the ditch told the
trooper he couldn’t arrest her because he
didn’t actually see her driving.
Doesn’t work that way!
On May 24, the trooper was dispatched to
assist a Custer County deputy with a traffic
accident in Weatherford, the affidavit states.
When he arrived, he saw a woman get out of
a vehicle that was in a ditch and climb up to
the road. She identified herself as Teresa M.
Herrera, 26, and told the trooper in slurred speech that she was driving home when a deer ran out in front of her.
Herrera was unsteady on her feet and smelled strongly of alcohol.
The trooper asked her how much she had had to drink, and Herrera told him four beers.
When the trooper told her it seemed like she had consumed more
than that, she told him she was a lightweight drinker, and it wasn’t
like she had drank thirty beers that evening.
She added that he couldn’t arrest her for driving under the influence, because he didn’t see her driving, and the most he could arrest
her for was public intoxication.
So, the trooper placed her under arrest for driving under the influence and transported her to jail.
Herrera agreed to take a breath test, and when the trooper asked
her to open her mouth so he could look for foreign objects, she became angry. She threatened to fight him, but said she didn’t want to
add that to her arrest. She made him aware that she could hurt him
if she wanted to though.
Before the depravation period was up, Herrera asked the jailer if
she could be placed in the drunk tank, because she was “tired of this.”
Herrera is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol. She was released on a $500 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on July 8, 2014.

“It is important to review the events
surrounding the execution of Clayton
Lockett to ascertain what transpired
and to ensure the death penalty is
administered correctly. It’s equally
important that any such review
be conducted with a commitment
to objectivity. Transparency and
impartiality in the fact-fi nding
surrounding this execution will give
Oklahomans confi dence and lend
credibility to the state’s most solemn of
duties: carrying out the sentence of death.
As the state’s chief legal offi cer, and to ensure the fair administration
of justice, I am taking the following actions:
• Assigning investigators from the Attorney General’s
Offi ce to work with DPS Commissioner Michael Thompson as he
gathers information on the execution of Lockett;
• Designating a special advisor(s) to assess the results of
the review of Lockett’s execution, and Department of Corrections’
procedures, and then to recommend, if necessary, any changes
surrounding such issues;
• Instructing my staff to work with lawmakers on any
relevant legislative proposals emanating from the review;

Mary Elizabeth Morgan Pewitt, 25, was found inside her
residence in Comanche, OK on June 4, 1988. A divorced
mother of two, Mary worked at a local bar and had closed
the establishment around midnight June 3. After driving
over to the bar owner’s house where she dropped off the
day’s proceeds, she returned home where she was met by a
boyfriend. Mary and her boyfriend visited for a short while
before he left the residence, becoming the last person known
to have seen her alive. It was shortly after the boyfriend’s
departure that investigators believe someone entered the
house and viciously stabbed Mary to death. Mary had recently
been involved in a volatile relationship regarding child support. On the night she was
murdered, Mary’s children were not at the home because they had spent the night with
Mary’s parents. The OSBI did not enter the case until 1997 when the agency asked to
assist the Comanche Police Department.

A quarreling couple tattled on each other and gave an Elk
City police officer all of the information he needed to arrest
them on June 4.
According to the affidavit, the officer made contact with
the couple after following them to a motel in the 2600 block
of E. Highway. He had seen their vehicle parked on the side
of the road and wanted to make sure they were okay. The
driver came to a stop in the parking lot after speeding away
from the officer and making an illegal turn.
Sayre man Ryan Cole Vidaurri, 28, and 27-year-old Lacey
Leigh Sellers of Elk City, told the officer that they had been
arguing earlier and were parked to talk.
Vidaurri smelled of marijuana, he was speaking in slow
speech, and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He admitted
he “smoked a little weed earlier.”
Sellers was sweating profusely and her tongue was white.
She admitted to being under the influence of meth.
Dispatch advised that Vidaurri had a suspended license
and Sellers had a Beckham County warrant.
When the officer told Vidaurri about the license, he apparently wasn’t going down alone. He replied, “Lacey has a
purple bag full of drugs in the car.”
When the officer told Sellers about her warrant, she replied, “He threw more drugs out the window when you drove
by us.”
In the vehicle, the officer found a bag with syringes, a pill
bottle containing crystal rocks that tested positive for meth,
bags with a green leafy substance, a scale and rolling papers.
While driving to jail, Vidaurri told the officer, “Lacey threw more dope out where we
parked.”
The officer found four more bags containing a green leafy substance that tested positive for
meth.
Vidaurri is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled drug with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of drugs, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with license
suspended. He is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July
10, 2014.
Sellers is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled drug with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication. She is being held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on June 19, 2014.

Oh, to be young again…
Police have arrested a high school sophomore after they learned she gave them a false
name and is actually 31 years old.
KLTV reported the Longview, Texas, investigation found Charity Anne Johnson is 31.
Johnson was enrolled at New Life Christian
School as “Charity Stevens.”
School officials said a person claiming to be
her guardian brought her to enroll.
She gave the school a fake birth date that
would have made her 15.
The school discovered her false identity Tuesday.
She has been at student at the school since October 2013.
Resident Tamica Lincoln said Charity told her she was 15 and needed a place to stay back in March.
“I sympathized with her and invited her into my home,” Lincoln told
KLTV. “I took her in as a child, did her hair, got her clothes and shoes.”
Lincoln said Charity claimed she was abused by her biological father
and that her mother was dead.
Lincoln told KLTV she acted as Charity’s guardian and even met
with Charity’s 10th grade teachers at New Life Christian School.
“I just don’t know why she did it,” Lincoln said. “Why put yourself
and others at risk to do something like this? I have deep concerns
about her being who, we don’t know she is, and then she’s out there
at the school.”
Lincoln said she called police and went straight to the school as soon
as soon as she realized Charity was using a fake identity.
“Teachers were crying and students were crying and her best friend
just couldn’t believe it,” Lincoln said.
Johnson was arrested for failure to identify/giving false, fictitious
information.
KLTV said she is in the Gregg County Jail on $500 bond.

A state trooper arrested two individuals in Blaine County
on May 31 after finding drugs and alcohol in their vehicle.
According to the affidavit, the trooper was patrolling state
Highway 51a when he saw a car driving at a high rate of speed.
His radar confirmed that the car was traveling 77 mph in a
65 mph zone.
He pulled the vehicle over and made contact with the driver, Canton woman Bonnie Sue Ross, 33. The front seat passenger was identified as 52-year-old Arthur Beverly Farrand
of Longdale.
The trooper noticed that Ross’s pupils appeared to be extremely constricted, and she was unable to provide a copy of
her insurance. When he asked her if she knew why she had been pulled over, she admitted that
she was speeding.
The trooper asked Ross to talk to him in the patrol vehicle. He gave her a ticket for no insurance and a warning for speeding. While he was speaking to Ross, dispatch advised the trooper
that Farrand had a warrant out of Woods County.
The trooper asked Ross if he could search her vehicle. She said yes, and the trooper made
Farrand and the backseat passenger exit the vehicle. The backseat passenger told the trooper
he had a bottle of alcohol, and he handed the officer an open bottle of gin.
While searching the vehicle, the trooper found seven syringes, a spoon, plastic bags and plastic bags containing a white substance. Farrand spontaneously told the trooper that the drugs
and syringes were his, and he was responsible for everything.
In a purse beside the driver’s seat, the trooper found two tins, one with a white residue
and one with a green residue. Inside prescription bottles that had Ross’s name on them were
pills that didn’t match the prescription. The trooper also found some marijuana that had been
rolled and partially smoked on the driver’s side floorboard.
The trooper transported Ross and Farrand to jail.
Farrand is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful
possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $22,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on June 11, 2014.

$10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 12, 2014.

A good burglar knows to cover his
tracks — this one didn’t. But, police
found more than a stolen scooter when
they searched the home of the suspect
on May 24.
According to the affidavit, a Washita
County deputy was dispatched to a
residence in the 100 block of Claude
Street in Dill City in reference to a stolen scooter. A woman told him that her
son’s razor scooter had been sitting on
the front porch the night before, but it
was gone that next morning.
Officers saw fresh scooter tracks on
the grass, and they followed the tracks to a residence in the 200
block of Western Street. No one answered the door, but the deputies
returned later that day with a search warrant.
When they entered the house, they made contact with Jimmy Gene
Kimberlin, 33. Kimberlin admitted that he had taken the scooter,
and he said he put it in a shed behind another residence. Police were
able to locate the scooter.
While speaking with Kimberlin, a deputy noticed a small marijuana pipe sitting on the kitchen cabinet.
Police exited the residence and secured another search warrant
that allowed them to look for illegal items.
Kimberlin told them he had a light bulb that he used as a pipe in
the house. Police also found numerous unknown pills, clear bags
with residue and numerous pipes.
The deputy placed Kimberlin under arrest and transported him to
jail.
Kimberlin is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen
property, possession of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on a $100,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29, 2014.

On May 21, United States District
Court Judge Robin J. Cauthron sentenced Laura Jean Shoulders, 47, of
Burns Flat, to serve 324 months in
federal prison for producing child pornography. Shoulders will have no possibility of parole.
Upon release from prison, Shoulders
will have to register as a sex offender.
According to court records and information from court proceedings,
Shoulders met a Burlington, Oklahoma, man online through a Craigslist
personals ad in the summer of 2012. The two began texting each
other about sexually explicit themes and exchanged sexually explicit
photographs. The conversations turned to the subject of child pornography, and Shoulders sent the man three videos of herself performing sex acts with a one-year-old child that she made with her
iPhone. Shoulders was babysitting the child. The man, in turn, distributed the videos to others, whom he met online.
Shoulders was indicted on January 8, 2014, and pled guilty on
February 26, 2013.
This case is the result of an investigation by the Oklahoma Internet
Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, Washita County Sheriff’s Office, Burns Flat Police Department, Dewey County Sheriff’s
Office, and the United States Secret Service. Among the investigators
who participated in this investigation were the recently deceased Officer Kristian Willhight of the Burns Flat Police Department and the
recently deceased Undersheriff Brian Beck of the Washita County
Sheriff’s Office.
