Calumet man arrested on
child abuse complaint
Investigators with the Canadian County
Sheriff’s Office arrested Gregory Bingham, 33 of
Calumet on April 28th after a Sheriff’s Deputy
responded to a report of Child Abuse from the
girl’s mother.
The girl’s mother called the Sheriff’s Office after she picked her daughter up from a weekend
visit with the girl’s biological father and discovered the girl had been severely beaten. A female
Sheriff’s Investigator met with the victim and her
mother and documented bruising to the girl’s
buttocks, thighs and legs, which were black
and blue with impressions of the leather belt the
child had been repeatedly beaten with.
“This poor innocent child was so brutally
beaten by her father, that she had stripes all up and down her backside,” said
Chris West, Canadian County Undersheriff.
The mother informed investigators that she learned of the bruising when she
took her daughter a little league softball uniform to change into at an El Reno
ball field, and saw the bruising on the girl’s backside. Afraid the girl’s injuries
could be worsened, she decided not to allow her daughter to play in the softball
game.
The mother, who lives in Yukon, called the Sheriff’s Office and a Deputy met
with them at the Braum’s Dairy Store located at I-40 and Garth Brooks Boulevard in Yukon.
Once the interviews were completed with the victim, and the girl’s mother,
Investigators met with the child’s father, who admitted to investigators that the
spankings were excessive. When asked, Bingham stated the spankings occurred because his daughter got into trouble at school, and when asked why
she was in trouble at school, the child repeatedly lied to him about the incident.
Bingham stated that he spanked his daughter on her backside on eight separate occasions over a forty-five minute period with three “licks” each time for a
total of twenty-four strikes.
“Bingham told investigators he knew he went overboard with the discipline
sessions, and regretted his actions,” West said.
Bingham was taken into custody by deputies at Braum’s and transported to
the Canadian County Jail, where he was booked in and charged with one count
of Child Abuse by Injury. His bond was set at ten thousand dollars. He was able
to post bond, and is no longer in custody.

We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

Elk City man Chad Ray Routh, 26, went to
jail on May 30 after he allegedly stole some tools
from a construction site and tried to run from
police.
According to the affidavit, Beckham County
deputies were dispatched to N. Falcon Road
shortly after 2 a.m. The reporting party advised
that two suspicious men were riding 4-wheelers
and looking in parked cars. They left the area
when a homeowner confronted them about
their strange behavior.
A deputy arrived on scene and saw two
4-wheelers traveling north on Falcon Road. The
ATVs then turned west onto Seventh.
The deputy activated his emergency lights in
an attempt to stop the vehicles. It didn’t work.
The suspects turned off the vehicle lights and drove through the parking lots of
several businesses.
One of the suspects, later identified as Routh, parked his 4-wheeler and took
off running. The deputy yelled at the man to stop, but he didn’t.
Other officers arrived and were able to place the man under arrest.
On the man’s 4-wheeler, police found an ice chest containing a leather tool
belt, wire cutters and other tools, including an air-powered nail gun and stapler
gun.
On the way to jail, Routh told officers he stole the tools from a construction site
about one mile south of 7th Street on Falcon Road.
When a deputy contacted the owner of the company doing work at the site,
he confirmed that several tools had been stolen from the location.
Routh is being charged with burglary in the second degree and eluding/attempting to elude police officer. His bond was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 19, 2016.

On July 27, 1981,
6-year-old Adam
Walsh was abducted from a Sears department store in Florida. His decapitated head was found 16 days later. Named
in his honor, the Code Adam Program helps ensure that
children are recovered safely and quickly if they are lost in
stores by having employees announce “Code Adam” warnings along with the child’s description over their intercom
systems to alert patrons to be on the lookout for lost children. First implemented by Wal-Mart in the 1990s, today,
hundreds of retail chains participate in the Code Adam Program and as of 2003, “The Code Adam Act” requires that

Clinton man Ricky Mendez, 48, was arrested for suspicion of public intox and possession
of marijuana on May 22.
Apparently, officers asked him about a fight
and they quickly realized he was wasted.
According to the police report, Clinton officers were dispatched to Nance Park at South
13th Street and Avant Avenue at approximately
6:35 p.m. for a fight in progress. When they
arrived, they spoke to Mendez, who was allegedly involved in the fight.
While speaking to the man, an officer noticed
that Mendez smelled like alcohol. He also exhibited other signs of intoxication; his speech
was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet, and
his eyes were red and watery.
Once the fight was stopped and the scene was secured, the officer placed
Mendez under arrest. Police then transported the man to jail to be booked into
a cell for public intoxication.
Mendez wasn’t done racking up charges just yet, though. In addition to the
alcohol he was probably drinking, he was also allegedly partaking of another
more illegal substance.
Or he just liked carrying drugs around in his pocket.
During booking, an officer found a white paper towel in the man’s pant
pocket. It contained a green leafy substance that later field-tested positive for
marijuana.
Mendez is being charged with public intoxication and possession of controlled dangerous substance in presence of minor or within 1,000 feet of a
school or park. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on June 24, 2016.

El Reno couple Keith Casey Botone, 35, and his
34-year-old girlfriend, Bessie Lucy Black Elk, were arrested on May 17 after they allegedly stole a car from their
friend.
According to the police report, a woman called a Washita County deputy at approximately 6:54 p.m. from a Dill
City convenience store. She told him that her car had just
been stolen by Botone and Black Elk.
A state trooper stopped the suspects near Highway
54 and Highway 54B. The victim was transported to the
scene. She told police she borrowed the car so she could
go see a friend. She didn’t have a license, so she asked
Botone to drive the vehicle to Dill City.
On the way, Botone kept showing her a pink and black
gun. He also kept talking about stealing a vehicle, but she
never dreamed he would steal the one she borrowed.
When they arrived at the destination, the woman told
her friend that Botone was acting weird. The next thing
she knew, the car was gone.
During an inventory of the car, a deputy found a purse
belonging to Black Elk. Inside the purse was a baggy containing a white crystal substance that later tested positive for meth, and a
smoking pipe.
The couple was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Black Elk told officers that she was in the backseat of the vehicle talking to
her grandmother when Botone jumped in and took off. She said she wasn’t
paying attention, but she never tried to get out of the vehicle or run away.
Botone denied ever pointing a gun at the victim -- he said the gun belonged
to the victim. The victim said the firearm wasn’t hers.
Black Elk is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, transporting loaded firearm
in motor vehicle and obstructing officer.
Botone is being charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, transporting
loaded firearm in motor vehicle and obstructing officer. Their bonds were set
at $20,000, and they are both scheduled to appear in court on July 19, 2016.

An L.A. gang member, Nazario Conchuza
Gonzalez, who is part of the infamous Ms-13
gang, also called Mara Salvatrucha, has died of
medical complications after attempting to gold
plate his own genitals to celebrate his 21st
birthday.
The young man that is originally from El Salvador and is an active member of the MS-13
crime family is believed to have attempted to
gold plate his own genitals with a professional
automotive gold plater stolen from a local garage after first painting his genitals with a leadbased paint, believe experts.
The 21-year old man who was allegedly a
fan of the 2002 American comedy movie Goldmember, which is a loose parody of the James Bond films Goldfinger, had taken the
Spanish nickname of “Pelotas de oro”, or golden testicles, before attempting to gold
plate his own genitals to his ultimate demise.
Dr Ian Joseffson of the Los Angeles Community Hospital warns of a growing trend
within gang members to attempt the “deadly operation”.
“This is the third case this year, but we have had many occurrences in hospitals in
the region these past years. It seems to be a growing trend within the gang member
community” he told reporters.
“I have no idea where this idea comes from but plating one’s own genitals will only
ultimately end in serious medical complications or even death, as we have seen in this
case” he explained.
Some experts believe the tradition might find it’s roots in prehistoric Mesoamerican
cultures, such as the Mayas who painted parts of their bodies with gold paint to empower themselves and as an offering to the gods.

Horrific Crimes that Changed America
A look at three murders that helped improve crime reporting in the United States. Pt.1
Kitty Genovese and 9-1-1
One of these crimes occurred exactly 52 years
ago on March 13, 1964.
A young woman, Kitty
Genovese, was stalked,
stabbed, raped, and murdered. It is speculated that
many of her neighbors
heard and/or saw the gruesome crime but neglected
to help. Part of the problem
was that at the time of her
murder, concerned citizens
had to dial “O” for operator
or the local police station
number (there were five different numbers for each of
the five New York City boroughs) and their call would then be relayed to a communications bureau and
then passed on to the precinct. Only then could a police officer be dispatched
to the scene of the crime. This obviously time-consuming process caused
severe delays in response times (some even believe that some of Kitty’s
neighbors did call the police during her attack but their calls were either lost
or delayed by the insufficient police communications system of the 1960s).
A few years later in 1967, the President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice recommended the development of an
emergency reporting system that would utilize a single universal number nationwide. On February 16, 1968, the first 9-1-1 call was made in the United
States in Haleyville, Alabama and by 1987, the majority of the American population had access to 9-1-1 emergency service numbers. Today, anyone in
the U.S. can easily contact the police with one simple phone call.

An Okeene nursing student was arrested
after he allegedly threatened to shoot patients
and blow up a hospital on May 10.
21-year-old Robert Malcolm Scarbrough
probably isn’t graduating nursing school anytime soon.
According to the affidavit, a man contacted
a Blaine County deputy on May 16 shortly after
2 p.m., and told him he was advised that Scarbrough was making terrible and violent threats
while in class.
The man said the vo-tech school Scarbrough
was attending told him that while nursing students were doing clinicals at the Watonga Hospital, Scarbrough made threats involving the
staff, patients and hospital building.
Several students told police that the students were in the emergency room
with a doctor during a procedure on a patient. The doctor was removing a boil
on the inside of a patient’s thigh. Scarbrough started to make noises such as
“whoo” and “ahhh”.
The doctor asked a student to tell him to shut up, because his behavior was
inappropriate and unprofessional.
Scarbrough responded that the people in the hospital made him sick. He
said he wanted to shoot and kill all of them, and blow up the hospital. He also
allegedly told students after they left the hospital that he was going to “blow
that place up.”
Yeah, you most definitely wouldn’t want Scarbrough to be your nurse!
Scarbrough is being charged with making a threat by means of explosive
device. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on June 17, 2016.
