A Yukon man was busted by police after he tried to pass a fake
prescription at a pharmacy in Kingfisher.
At around 2 p.m. Feb. 6, officer Justin Trumbley received a call
from Dennis’s Pharmacy about someone trying to pass a fake script.
When he arrived, he spoke to a woman who said Joshua Caldwell,
35, came into the pharmacy and had a script filled the day before.
The woman said Caldwell came back, saying he lost the pills and
needed a refill. She called the doctor’s office on the script and an
employee there said they didn’t write the script.
On Feb. 5, Caldwell came in the pharmacy to buy over-the-counter
pain cream and get antibiotic and pain pills, the woman said. The
next day, he called and spoke to the woman, asking her if there was
an over-the-counter antibiotic for pinkeye for his daughter. She said no and told him he
should take the child to a doctor. At that point, he said he lost his medicine he received the
day before and asked what he could do about it.
Caldwell came in and said he found the antibiotic but couldn’t find his hydrocodone pills.
He said he had a refill and wanted to use it, but the woman said she needed a doctor’s authorization. When she called the doctor on the script, she realized that out of all the scripts
in Caldwell’s report, only five of them were real. Caldwell was arrested on a warrant about a
week later.
Caldwell faces a charge of attempting to obtain controlled substances by forgery or fraud.
He posted a $10,000 bond soon after his arrest and has a court date set for 2 p.m. March 28.

Just be nice
A routine traffic stop in Okeene landed an El Reno man with a felony arrest Feb. 18.
Trooper J.R. Robertson was patrolling in Okeene and saw a car driving
nearly 50 mph past a school, when the speed limit was 35 mph. He initiated
a traffic stop and approached Brandon Colbert, 42, for his identification.
Immediately upon seeing Colbert, the trooper noted his eyes were glossed
over and he could barely speak. Colbert also kept asking the trooper if he
was going to be nice to him, especially since he couldn’t find his insurance.
Robertson had Colbert sit in the patrol car, and Colbert complied, although he could barely
walk there. Robertson asked Colbert how much he had to drink. Colbert replied, “a half pint
of vodka,” which explained why he later failed the field sobriety tests and initially refused to
take a breath test.
The trooper then took Colbert to the sheriff’s office, where Colbert agreed to take the breath
test, blowing a .16, according to the affidavit. He was then subsequently booked on a DUI
complaint on $10,000 bond.
Robertson wrote in his report that even though Colbert was very intoxicated, he did not give
him any problems.
As it turns out, Colbert has had some experience with drunken driving arrests, as he was
charged with two DUIs in Seminole County in 2006 and 2007. He was convicted and received
a suspended sentence, and a condition of that includes not receiving another DUI charge
within a 10-year period. Because of this, he faces a felony charge for his newest DUI.
Colbert will appear in court later this month to answer to the charge.

A couple of ex-cons and habitual drug
offenders have a long road ahead of them
after police again busted them with drugs
Feb. 17.
Around noon that day, Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Paul Staggs saw a 2002
Cadillac turn in the far lane in Weatherford. He initiated a traffic stop and confronted Gregory Despain, 51, and Christopher Cline, 30. Staggs told Despain to sit in
the passenger seat of his patrol car.
However, Despain was rambling, twitchy
and nervous, and Cline kept looking in his
side mirror to see what they were up to,
which made Staggs suspicious. He called
Weatherford police for assistance, and
they brought a K-9 unit to the scene, which
alerted them to narcotics.
Armed with probable cause, a search of
the Cadillac turned up a white trash bag
concealed in the engine area, which was between the headlamp and the vehicle frame.
The bag had about 21 grams of methamphetamine inside, as well as a scale and a
used syringe. The pair was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.
Cline has two felony drug convictions on his record from 2006, for
possession and distribution of controlled substances. He was sentenced to serve two years in the state penitentiary.
Despain, for his part, has three felony drug convictions, which are
all for possession of controlled substances. He also served time for
nine counts of stalking from the 1990s, as well as two stolen property-related convictions in 2007. He served time in state prison from
November 2007 to January 2012.
Cline remains in custody, but Despain posted a $100,000 bond
Feb. 21. He and his cohort will appear in court at 9 a.m. April 5.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
In this installment of Tips From
a Trooper, I’m going to talk about a
violation that we see every day. It
is something I am sure most of my
readers have done, many times, without giving it another thought. I
doubt if most have even considered it to be unsafe, much less illegal,
but it is. The violation is passing on the shoulder, and it happens all
the time.
The car ahead of you is stopped in the lane of traffic, and you see the
left turn signal on. Its not turning because of oncoming traffic, which
it must yield to before turning, so you just slide your vehicle over to
the right, onto the shoulder, or maybe even just the widened part of
the road where the intersection is, and pass right by them. Maybe
you slowed down a little, just to be safe, or maybe not. You are in a
hurry, and don’t want to slow down to wait for traffic to clear. Doesn’t
seem like a big deal does it? Well, passing on the shoulder is illegal,
and can be a very dangerous situation!
The Statute governing this scenario is actually in the section that
states when passing on the right is permitted...it gives a few examples,
one of which is when a vehicle is preparing to make a left hand turn.
Sounds like its covered and should be legal, right? The last sentence
of this Statute is where you find the restriction for passing on the
shoulder.
It states:
The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass another
vehicle upon the right only under conditions permitting such
movement in safety. In no event shall such movement be made
by driving off the pavement or main traveled portion of the
roadway.
Statute also defines roadway for us: That portion of highway
improved, designed or ordinarily used for vehicular travel, exclusive
of the shoulder.
The reason for this Statute is simple, and for this exact scenario...
not only is the vehicle in front of you turning left, but the oncoming
vehicle is also going to turn left, and visibility of your vehicle is
blocked by the stopped one, which makes a blind spot, and the
potential for the oncoming vehicle to turn left in front of you, just as
you are passing the other vehicle! We work accidents where this is the
causation all the time, and they can all be prevented by obeying this
law, and practicing some patience! How much time do you think you
actually save when doing this, anyway? Next time you see someone
do it, watch and see if you don’t catch them at the next traffic light...
they really didn’t save anything, and a couple of seconds aren’t worth
risking an accident and a life.
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

CHILD ENDANGERMENT DUI PUBLIC DRUNK
There are times in our life when
others hurt or anger us. We sometimes
feel a strong desire to settle the score.
Proverbs 20:22 says Do not say, ‘I’ll
pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for
the Lord and he will deliver you.”
The feelings that drive us to revenge
are powerful and strong, their
destructive nature can consume us.
The Bible responds with a “Do not...”
statement, not just a word of teaching
or advice but this verse is worded with
the strength of a command.
We would be better off to stifle the
thoughts of revenge early and quickly;
we should not even speak about it. When thoughts of revenge come we should
redirect them to thoughts of waiting on the Lord.
There are many reasons why we need to wait for the Lord to act. To wait without
giving in or compromise is a statement of faith. To wait is a testimony that we
believe in the promises of God and his commitment to us.
We are to wait, not for time to heal all wounds, or wait for an opportunity, or
wait for the sake of waiting, we are to wait for The Lord. We wait on purpose
for the one who created all things and has power to change all things, he is the
one who rules the universe and will judge the hearts of all men. We wait and we
should focus on the Lord and not our anger.
This verse ends with a conditional promise. The condition of course is not to
act on our desire to get revenge but to wait for the Lord instead. The promise is
that he will deliver. It suggest that the Lord will make things right, but it is not
specific; will the Lord deliver us from our enemies, or the situation or maybe
more importantly from ourselves and our bitterness?
As much as we need to be delivered from our own enemies we also need to be
delivered from our desire for revenge. It may be that even though God is a just
God he is more interested in changing our natures than balancing justice. He
allows circumstances in our lives to give us the challenges we need to grow. He
may sometimes deliver us not from our oppressors but from ourselves.

Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

EDDY
A former oilfield worker was taken
into custody after he admitted to a
deputy he was was going to kill everyone at his job.
Jason Eddy, 34, of Sayre, was
charged Feb. 20 with felony plan/attempt/conspire to perform an act of
violence.
According to an affidavit written by
Beckham County Deputy Brian Baker,
he was called Feb. 15 to Canyon Oil
Field Services on Highway 283. The
owner told the deputy he was going
to fire an employee, Eddy, because he
had threatened to “come shoot everybody” the day before. He also had said he knew why people went on
shooting sprees and that his clips were loaded. The owner needed the
deputy on stand-by just in case something happened.
After the owner fired Eddy, Baker asked him if he had said he was
going to kill everybody and why. Eddy responded by saying, “The
world has s**t on me for the last time and it’s time to make a stand.”
He added he had firearms at his house.
Baker decided it was best to place Eddy in emergency detention for
everyone’s safety. He then transported Eddy to the Sayre Hospital.
Baker applied for a search warrant for Eddy’s home and found several boxes of ammunition, two rifles, a knife, and a live rattlesnake
in a plastic container without food or water. The game warden came
and got the snake.
Several days later, Baker received a tip that Eddy had a stash of
guns in his truck, which was parked at Canyon Oil Fields Services.
Another search warrant was issued for Eddy’s truck and Baker found
an Sig Saure AR-15 rifle with two loaded magazines, a Ruger 10-22
rifle, a large knife, several boxes of ammunition, and a box of Tannerite, a “material that is used to make a target explode on impact of
a projectile.”
Eddy’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 28 at 9 a.m.

Many burglars are known for their array of disguises.
One burglar in Slidell, La. apparently forgot his and improvised. Surveillance video shows the 23-year-old suspect used a bucket when he robbed his former employer,
Kenney’s Seafood. The bucket seemed to hinder him a
little. The suspect had to tilt up the bucket every so often
to catch a glimpse of his surroundings. It turns out his
disguise was a bad idea. Police were able to identify and
arrest the suspect at his home.
A teenage girl and her friend are accused of drugging
her parents so they could use the Internet past curfew
time. “[The parents] woke up about 1 a.m. They had
hangover-like symptoms, they felt really groggy, had a
headache, went back to sleep. They felt the same way the
next morning,” said Lt. Lon Milka with the Rocklin Police
Department. The parents picked up a drug test kit that
some parents buy to check on their children. But they
used it on themselves. They discovered the milkshakes
the two girls had given them were drugged with sleep
medicine. The girls gave chocolate to dad and vanilla to
mom. The parents’ rule was no Internet access after 10
p.m. But with the parents in dreamland, the girls had
free rein. The girls are underage, so they won’t be facing
prison time. The case is being handled through the juvenile courts.
No one can say San Bernardino’s police chief is afraid
to “tackle” crime in the city. Chief Rob Handy was in civilian clothes Wednesday when he was alerted to a suspicious man trying to sell power tools outside a restaurant.
When the man saw a patrol car nearby, he took off on
foot. The chief ran him down and tackled him. During
the pursuit, a gun fell out of the suspect’s waistband. The
suspect was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun.
A bizarre brawl involving a clown and a Milwaukee
police offi cer was caught on tape. Cellphone video shot
by witness Mitch Cooper shows the clown attacking a police offi cer. “The clown was resisting so the cop needed to
do what he needed to do to make sure he was safe,” said
Cooper who happened to be driving by. “It was funny
to witness, probably not so fun for the clown, but as a
spectator it was pretty entertaining.” According to a report, police had received several complaints prior to the
brawl that the clown had been chasing cars with a squirt
gun. The clown is a well-known local activist who is often spotted protesting outside government buildings. He
was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

The key to your freedom
A Kansas man was taken into custody after an OHP trooper
discovered he had a $100,000 warrant out for his arrest and
was packing his grannie’s rifle in the trunk.
Michael Walker, 34, of Moscow, Kan., was charged Feb. 21
with possession of a firearm AFCF and driving while license is
cancelled.
OHP Trooper Kevin Edsall was traveling southbound about
five miles west of Watonga on Highway 270 when he noticed a
car traveling northbound with the driver not wearing his seat
belt. Edsall turned his cruiser around and caught up to the
car. The driver, Walker, pulled over after Edsall activated his
lights.
Walker gave Edsall an Oklahoma driver’s license, but it was
cancelled. When he ran a warrants check on Walker, dispatch told him Walker had a
$100,000 warrant out of Harper County.
Walker was arrested and placed in cuffs. During a search of Walker’s vehicle, the
trooper found a rifle in the trunk of the car. Walker said he didn’t know it was in there
and that it was his grandma’s. He knew he couldn’t have a weapon because he was a
convicted felon.
When he was booked into the Blaine County Jail, it was also discovered he had a warrant out for his arrest in Noble County.

Under cover drug agents defuse a mini meth lab found inside a
porta-potty in the middle of a golf course in Purcell.
Staffers noticed strange sports drink bottles with chemicals inside
the porta-potty and called police.
Officers arrived and soon realized someone had been inside making
meth using the “shake and bake” method.
Three bottles were found, two of them exploded before detectives
arrived.
Agents were able to neutralize the third one without the harmful
chemicals erupting.
“If someone would have been in the porta-pot when it happened
they might have gotten hurt by the flying plastic and the chemicals,”
Purcell Dt. Cpl. Scott Stephens said.
Investigators said they have a lead on one suspect but said they
believe others could be involved.
The inside of the unit was damaged but agents were able to submit latent fingerprints to a
crime lab.

A DUI arrest turned into a headache
for a Burns Flat woman on Feb. 23.
Around midnight that day, Burns
Flat police officer Kris Willhight was
patrolling when he saw a tan SUV
speeding and driving with a broken tail
light. The driver stopped at a stop sign
for a while, which Willhight believed
was the result of the SUV’s clutch slipping.
He initiated a traffic stop soon after
and approached Lauren Hanna, 28.
Willhight noticed she smelled strongly
of alcohol and that she was fumbling
while looking for her identifying information. Hanna said the car belonged to her mom, but, seeing as she
smelled like alcohol, the open case of Coors Light on the floorboard
did not.
Further questioning revealed Hanna had three drinks before driving, so the officer administered several field sobriety tests. She failed,
leading to her arrest.
Things got interesting for the officer when he tried to put Hanna
in the patrol car, however. She refused to sit down, and when she finally complied, she proceeded to kick another officer on scene when
he tried to buckle her seat belt. She also started banging her head
against the door window and cursing at both officers.
When Willhight tried to read Hanna her rights, she continued to
curse, saying “F--- off” and adding that she wasn’t listening. During
the drive to county lockup, she continued to yell and kick the seats in
the car. He told the jailers she was being difficult, which landed her
stints in the dirty and padded cells. Despite this, Hanna continued to
spit at the cell door and yell at him.
Hanna faces charges of drunken driving and assault and battery on
a police officer. She posted a $10,000 bond March 5 and has a court
date set for April 16 at 9 a.m.
Temper, temper!
