A Yukon man found himself behind bars in the McClain
County jail after he allegedly stole a lost cellphone at Newcastle Casino.
Shannon McAlister, 47, was charged Feb. 19 with knowingly
concealing stolen property in McClain County District Court.
According to the affidavit, a Chickasaw Nation Lighthouse
police officer was contacted Feb. 15 about a person who had
left their cell phone at an ATM, and when he went back to get
it, it was gone. The security camera on the ATM showed a man
wearing an orange hat, blue jeans, and a long-sleeved blue
shirt taking the cell phone from the top of the machine, and
while walking away, put it on his pocket.
On the casino’s video, it showed the man walking out to the
parking lot to a truck. He was inside for a few minutes and
then went back into the casino.
The man, identified as McAlister, was found and questioned. He denied knowing anything
about the phone. The victim identified the phone and it matched perfectly to the one McAlister was seen taking from the ATM and to the truck.
After being presented with the evidence, McAlister then admitted he took the phone, but
said he didn’t trust security there at the casino and was going to turn the phone in later to
Newcastle police.
Bond for McAlister was set at $7000 and he pled not guilty at his initial appearance. His
preliminary hearing is set for March 25 at 9 am.

When Christine Elouise Severs’s ex-boyfriend started ignoring her calls and texts, she was apparently none too pleased.
The 45-year-old Lawton woman was arrested February 22
after she allegedly attacked her ex and broke his glasses.
According to the affidavit, a Clinton police officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of Hunt Avenue in
reference to an assault. When he arrived, a man told him that
his ex-girlfriend, identified as Severs, had come to his house
and assaulted him earlier that day. He said Severs knocked
on his door and when he answered it, she asked him why he
hadn’t been answering her phone calls or texting her back.
Severs then began yelling at the man. The victim told the
officer she demanded him to give her some money and asked
him for cigarettes. Apparently, the man wasn’t in the giving
mood, because he said Severs grabbed his face and jerked his glasses off. She then “crumpled

The officer noticed the victim had a scratch on his face from when Severs ripped his glasses
off. The man’s broken glasses were lying on a nearby bench.
Severs was arrested and transported to jail.
Severs is being charged with domestic abuse assault and battery, second and subsequent.
She was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 3, 2015.

With this most recent ice
and snow storm that gripped
Oklahoma, there obviously were
some significant obstacles to safe driving. One that I have noticed,
that doesn’t really get a lot of attention, is the visibility that is
obstructed by iced over windshields and windows on vehicles. I’m
going to touch on some of that, to try to raise some awareness about
it, and give some tips to help us stay safe.
We’ve all seen it...a vehicle coming down the road with just a
small hole scraped in the windshield so the driver could see the
road. Every time I see it, I cringe! The law that governs this is
Oklahoma State Statute 47:12-404.C, which states: “No person
shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster, other nontransparent material, or debris, including but not limited to snow,
ice, or frost upon the front windshield or the side wings, or side
or rear windows......which obstructs, obscures, or impairs the
driver’s clear view of the highway ahead or to either side or of any
intersecting highway.” What this means to the everyday driver is
that the little hole you scraped to drive by, just won’t cut it! While
compliance is the goal, the reason is safety! Obviously the chances
of an accident drastically increase as visibility decreases...so why
limit our vision to just a small hole out the front windshield?
There are several ways to clear those windshields, both
mechanically and chemically. A simple ice scraper has been the
preferred method for as long as most people can remember. They
are inexpensive, and easy to find. Another method is simply to
go out 10 minutes before you leave, start your car up, and get the
defroster going! When the windows are clear, you are good to go.
Still another way is to obtain any number of chemical de-icing
sprays that are available at most stores. Don’t pour hot water
on your windows, as the change in temperatures can cause your
window to crack or break!
While we are talking about it, lets not forget about those side and
rear widows. A significant percentage of accidents happen while
backing, so it stands to reason that we need to be able to see out
our back glass as well as the front. Side windows are no different,
no one wants to be struck by a vehicle they couldn’t see when they
pull into an intersection. After you finish with those side windows,
go ahead and hit those side mirrors as well!
All of these suggestions simply take a little extra time, and
sometimes money, but the time and money pale in comparison to
the impact on time and money that an accident will have on you, or
others. As a safe, courteous driver, you owe it to yourself and your
fellow drivers! Thanks for reading, buckle up and be safe!

Elk City woman Julie Marie Walker, 30,
is facing charges of assault after she allegedly became so angry at a man for answering a question that she threatened to kill
him with a knife.
On February 23, an Elk City police officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of S.
Randall shortly after 1 p.m. According to the
affidavit, he made contact with a man who
told him that he had been sitting in a room
with Walker and her boyfriend. Walker was
talking to her boyfriend, and the man said
he answered a question Walker asked her boyfriend. He said Walker
became angry and told him if she was talking to him, she would’ve
asked him the question. The man said she then started cussing him
and “saying hurtful things.”
The man said he walked away from Walker, but she followed him
and grabbed a butcher knife. He said she threatened to kill him, and
he told her he was going to call the police. Walker didn’t seem to
care, and she just kept threatening to stab the man.
The victim’s fiancee verified the man’s story.
The officer made contact with Walker’s boyfriend, and he drove
the man to the couple’s house. Walker wasn’t there, and her car was
missing.
The officer was finally able to reach the woman by phone. She told
him that she didn’t do anything wrong, and she could just throw her
phone away. The officer told her he needed to speak to her in person.
She told him she would walk to the police department.
The officer later found out she was trying to locate a taxi so she
could get out of town. Police found the woman and took her to jail.
She refused to speak to police about the incident.
Walker is being charged with assault and battery with a deadly
weapon. Her bond was set at $50,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on April 28, 2015.

An Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed a pickup truck
make an unsafe lane change in the
northbound lane of I-35 near N.E.
122nd Street. The deputy stopped
the vehicle and spoke with the driver,
46-year old Rafael Armando Rocha,
of Rowland Heights, California.
While speaking with Rocha he gave
the deputy permission to search his
truck. On the rear passenger side the
deputy noticed a black suitcase, and
inside the suitcase the deputy found 25-kilos of cocaine (55lbs).
Rocha was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of Trafficking
cocaine base
On February 16, 2015 Rocha posted bond of $25,000.00, and has been released
from jail.

A Garden City, Kansas, woman caught speeding through Blaine County told a state trooper
she was selling marijuana she bought in Colorado when he stopped her vehicle on February 13.
According to the affidavit, a state trooper was
traveling westbound on US 270 when he saw a
vehicle traveling 92 mph in a 70 mph zone at approximately 6:45 p.m.
He stopped the vehicle and made contact with
the driver, 21-year-old Jalan Alexis Brown. She handed over her
driver’s license and told the trooper she was driving a rental car.
He asked her to have a seat in the patrol car, and he immediately
smelled the odor of alcohol. She admitted to drinking earlier that
day when she got off work. The trooper determined she was not under the influence.
He asked her if there were any open containers in the vehicle -- she
said no.
When the trooper went to her vehicle to check, he smelled marijuana in the car. Sitting in plain view was a container with a green
leafy substance inside. When he took it back to the patrol car, Brown
told him she should have searched the car before driving it.
The trooper went back to the vehicle, and he found a large black
bag in the trunk. The bag contained a digital scale and a jar with a
green leafy substance inside.
He placed Brown under arrest.
Brown told him she was on her way to Oklahoma City to pick up
her friend and go back to Kansas. She said she bought the marijuana
in Colorado, and she was planning on selling it.
Brown is being charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of controlled dangerous substance. She
was released on a $2,281.50 bond and is scheduled to appear in
court on March 26, 2015.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special
Ranger John Cummings is seeking information on the shooting of
a cow in Rogers County.
At Approximately 6:30 a.m. on Thurs. Feb. 5, a Rogers County
rancher found a black 12 year-old black cow shot and killed 30
yards from the intersection of Winganon Road and NS 4200 Road
near Chelsea, Okla.
The cow was shot in the head with a small caliber weapon and
the suspect(s) removed the right hindquarters and some of the
back strap from the dead cow. The remainder of the cow was left untouched. The cow was heavybred and the loss is reported at $2,500.
According to Cummings, this is the third cow/calf they know of that was killed and butchered in
the area since 2010. Cummings worked a similar case in the same area in 2012.

A 19-year-old Reydon man admitted to stealing the high school’s ag
truck and taking it on a joyride after
he was caught stealing snacks and
soda from a Canute convenience store
on February 21.
The store employee contacted police
shortly after 3 p.m. and told a Washita
deputy that Kody Lyn Mabra had been
“hanging around the store,” and she
saw him steal an ice cream, according
to the affidavit.
When she confronted him about the
stolen ice cream, she said Mabra told
her he had also stolen some other items including chips, dip, and ice
cream. The stolen items totaled $13.73. The employee said after she
spoke to Mabra, he left the store.
Not too long after he spoke with the employee, the deputy was advised that Mabra was hanging out behind a local business. He found
the man at the intersection of Canute Road and Hartronft Street.
When he placed the Mabra in handcuffs, Mabra told him, “I figured
you’d be coming for me.”
The reporting party positively identified Mabra as the thief who
had been in her store earlier.
On the way to jail, Mabra told the deputy he stole the Reydon
School’s ag truck. He said he ran out of diesel two blocks away from
the 4-way stop in Canute.
Police found the stolen vehicle and alerted the superintendent.
Mabra is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property
and petit larceny. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on April 28, 2015.
