IDENTITY THEFT
A Hobart woman who told police she was the Holy Trinity and Satan all wrapped into one was arrested
on February 20 for starting approximately seven fires and releasing cattle out of their pasture.
31-year-old Teresa Michelle Garcia said she was just trying to get rid of the bad land.
According to the police report, a man who also happened to be a firefighter, contacted the Washita
County Sheriff’s Office around 4:17 p.m. and said there were several fires on Highway 55 approximately
three miles west of Highway 54. The man also advised that there was a woman walking around the
area, and he believed she was responsible for the flames. He said he saw the woman walking near
Highway 55 and N2280 headed east. After he passed her, he saw the fires.
The man notified the fire department and saw several more fires where the woman was walking. He
then approached her and asked what she was doing. She replied, “This is my land and you can’t take
it from me.” The woman further explained that the land was Indian land, and
she needed to get rid of the bad before she could start over. She then
became aggressive toward the man.
When a deputy arrived in the area, he detained Garcia. She told
him that she had started the fires with the lighter that was in her
pocket. She said she owned the land, and it needed to be burned
so she could make it better. Garcia also told the deputy that she
was God the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost, and Satan.
The deputy advised her she was under arrest. On the way to
jail, the deputy saw several head of cattle roaming free. Garcia
explained that she had opened the gate and let the cattle out.
She said it was okay because she told the animals they
needed to stay out of the road.
Garcia is being charged with third-degree arson and
allowing domestic animals to run at large. Her bond
was set at $10,000, and she is scheduled to appear
in court on April 30, 2019.

Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested
Shanna Michelle King, 30, of Elk Ridge, Utah, on
Sunday, February 17, on Possession of Drugs and
Drug Trafficking charges after she was stopped on
Interstate 40 near El Reno.
According to Sheriff Chris West, King was
stopped at approximately 5:35 pm when a deputy
sheriff observed her vehicle, a dark grey colored
Chevrolet Sonic, veer from the outside lane of I-40
onto the shoulder and then back into the outside
lane again near the 118 mile marker.
Once stopped, the sheriff’s deputy approached
King and asked for her driver license and insurance
verification card. King advised the vehicle was a
rental car, and that she did not possess any of the paperwork for the car. King
told the deputy that a friend had loaned her the car, and that she was going to
Arkansas to see her sister, and then on to Georgia to visit some friends for a
couple of days. She also told the Deputy that she planned on returning the rental
car in Georgia, and that she would fly home commercially. The Deputy became
suspicious when King told him that she couldn’t remember the friend’s name,
and that she only had his phone number.
The Deputy had King step back to his Sheriff’s Cruiser, and once inside she
changed her story, telling the deputy that her sister actually lived in Georgia, and
that she was headed there to help her sister cater an event.
Believing King may be involved in some sort of criminal activity, the Deputy
asked if there was any illegal substances in the vehicle, to which King responded
“No.” The deputy then requested assistance of an additional deputy. Once the
second deputy arrived, a Drug Detector Dog was used to perform a free-air sniff
around the perimeter of King’s vehicle. The Drug Dog alerted to the presence of
illegal drugs, and a subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in locating both
methamphetamines and marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia. The meth and
paraphernalia was found in the front passenger compartment, and the marijuana
was all located inside a duffle bag, and two shopping bags.
King was immediately taken into custody, and an inventory of the illegal drugs
and paraphernalia was performed. In all, approximately 30 pounds of high grade
marijuana was located, packaged in 30 individual vacuum sealed baggies, and
5 pounds of marijuana inside approximately 140 small tin-cans. Deputies also
located approximately 20 baggies of processed marijuana edibles, and one small
bag containing methamphetamines. In all, the drugs are believed to possess a
street value of approximately $70,000.
“I’m very pleased with the performance of my deputies in this case. We’re extremely blessed to have such super high quality people working here,” said Chris
West, Canadian County Sheriff.
King was transported to the Canadian County Jail and booked on Trafficking
Marijuana and Possession of Methamphetamines. King’s bond was established
at $51,000.

Federal Jury Convicts sayre Man Who Attempted to
Bomb Downtown Oklahoma City Bank
A federal jury has convicted Jerry Drake Varnell, 24, of Sayre, for attempting to use a weapon
of mass destruction at BancFirst in downtown
Oklahoma City, announced Robert J. Troester of
the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Jurors began hearing testimony on February
12 and entertained closing arguments on February 25. After a half-day of deliberation, they
returned unanimous verdicts of guilty on one
count of attempting to use an explosive device
to damage a building in interstate commerce
and one count of attempting to use a weapon of
mass destruction against property used in interstate commerce.
The FBI arrested Varnell at approximately 1:00 a.m. on August 12, 2017,
after he attempted to detonate what he believed to be an explosives-laden
van he had parked in an alley next to BancFirst, at 101 North Broadway. The
arrest was the culmination of a long-term domestic terrorism investigation
involving an undercover operation, during which Varnell had been monitored
closely for months as the alleged bomb plot developed. The explosives were
inert, and the public was not in danger.
FBI had received information that Varnell initially wanted to blow up the
Federal Reserve Building in Washington, D.C., with a device similar to the
1995 Oklahoma City bombing because he was upset with the government.
On October 17, 2017, a federal grand jury charged Varnell with attempting to use an explosive device to damage and destroy BancFirst’s corporate
offices. After a psychological evaluation, the court entered an order on November 21, 2017, that found him competent to stand trial. The grand jury
returned a superseding indictment on April 17, 2018, that added one count
of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
At trial, the jury heard testimony from an informant who made recordings of
his conversations with Varnell. It also heard from the undercover FBI agent
who helped Varnell build what he thought was a bomb, an FBI bomb technician, and others. It listened to numerous recordings in which Varnell planned
the attack and reviewed numerous written electronic communications that
corroborated his intent. Furthermore, it heard the testimony of a defense
expert concerning Varnell’s mental health. Through its verdicts, the jury concluded any mental health problems did not prevent Varnell from forming the
intent required for conviction. It also determined the FBI did not entrap him.
Varnell will remain in custody until his sentencing, which will take place in
approximately 90 days. He faces a maximum sentence of life for attempting
to use a weapon of mass destruction and a maximum sentence of twenty
years for attempting to use an explosive device. The explosive-device count
carries a statutory mandatory minimum sentence of five years. He could also
be fined $250,000 on each count and subject to supervised release for the
rest of his life.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A Geary man was taken into custody after
police received a welfare check for the man
and discovered what they thought were the
makings of a bomb. The device turned out to
be harmless, but they did find drugs.
Christopher Deevers, 35, was charged
with possession of a controlled substance in
Blaine County District Court.
According to Geary Police, on February
19, just after midnight, the Geary Police Department received a request to do a welfare
check on a man in the 500 block of North
Blaine due to a possible suicide threat. When
officers arrived at the residence and began
a conversation with the man, they observed
several unopened boxes containing what appeared to be new military ordinance. The unopened boxes indicated they were fused and therefore live
ordinance.
The Geary Police Department requested assistance from the Blaine County
Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad, and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. After the ordinance was examined by the OHP
Bomb Squad, they were determined to be inert ordinance and therefore no
threat to the public.
The OHP Bomb Squad advised the Geary Police Department that there
was no need to evacuate any citizens even though a few had already been
notified to evacuate. At the time of those notifications, the decision had been
made to err on the side of caution.
Deevers was booked into the Blaine County jail. He pleaded guilty at his
initial appearance and received a one-year suspended sentence and fines.

A man in Florida stole some medication out of his roommate’s lockbox. They
were labelled Hydrocodone. But, they weren’t. They weren’t opioids. They were
laxatives. And yes, he did find out the hard way. His roommate called the cops
when the pills went missing. He admitted he stole them and then threw the rest
out. So, not only did he get a horrible stomach ache, he was publicly humiliated... and arrested.
Also in Florida, a guy was with his wife. She was upset over an issue she was
having with a family member. She wanted to talk about it with him, but he went
into Taco Bell and got himself lunch instead. When he got back, he tried to give
his wife a burrito. But he was dangling it in front of her, making fun of her for
being so upset. That wasn’t a smart move... she grabbed it and threw it on the
floor. Apparently, that’s a fighting act. He picked up the burrito and shoved it in
her face and up her nose. He was arrested for battery... by a burrito.
In Kansas, a family was playing Monopoly and wound up getting into a fight.
It escalated and as two cousins were arguing, one guy’s girlfriend hit the other
cousin and shoved him into a mirror. Then she took off running. The guy went
to the hospital for stitches but they are still looking for the girlfriend who is now
wanted on assault charges. And you know, when they catch her, she will have
to go directly to jail... without passing go... and without collecting her 200 dollars.
A guy was pulled over in Florida for having a light out. But, he was on probation and driving with a suspended license so he decided to make a run for
it. He ditched his car and tried to hide from police under a tree in a field. And it
may have worked if it weren’t for some crime fighting horses. There were three
horses that apparently didn’t like him in their field and started chasing him. He
hopped a fence, where he was promptly taken into custody.
A man was caught on surveillance footage sitting in front of a porterhouse
steak, a lobster tail and a 20-ounce beer in a California restaurant before pocketing the hunk of meat and walking out.
“What type of person will take a steak and watch the juice drip off and then
wrap it in a linen napkin?” said House of Beef lead server Denise Loya. “It’s just
highly unusual.”
Loya said the man dressed in a suit came into the Oakdale restaurant and
asked for a table for four. She said he looked like a villain from an ‘80s movie.
“Definitely a used car salesman or bad real estate agent. Slimeball,” she told
KTXL.
His actions were just as animated. The video shows his eyes shifting constantly as he looks up at the surveillance camera and over his shoulder.
“Just keep your eyes on this person ‘cause his eyes, you can see him, you
know, he’s watching,” said the restaurant’s owner, Steve Medlen.
One last look into the camera and the man picks up the slab of meat then
folds it into the napkin lifted from the bread basket. He’s unethical,” Medlen
said. “He’s out to commit a crime.”
Medlen said he decided to post the video on social media to catch the steak
smuggler.
“The monetary part is not part of the equation,” he told KTXL. “The part that
we want to do is take this person off the street.”
In the final moments, the man picks up his haul and walks away, all while a
little girl watches in his direction.
“Be great if he would come in and pay his bill and apologize but I highly doubt
that’s gonna happen,” Loya said.
The staff said if he had truly been starving they would have helped.
“We always help people,” Loya said. “When they come in off the streets, we
will buy them a bowl of soup or a sandwich.”
The staff says that was a $56 meal. The owner did file a police report with the
Oakdale Police Department but no arrests had been made.
