Investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s
Office arrested Michael Lunday, 55 of Oklahoma
City, after he drove to a Mustang residence in order to have sex with a fictitious 5 year-old girl.
Investigators were contacted on the morning of
March 2 by a confidential informant (CI) who advised she had been in communication with and was requested by Lunday to arrange a meet for sex with an
underaged child.
The CI worked with Sheriff’s investigators and assisted in carrying out a sting
operation that afternoon. Lunday communicated in detail with the CI via text
messages and phone calls. Lunday told the CI that he would bring condoms
and lubrication to facilitate sexual intercourse. Lunday agreed to meet the CI
at a residence in Mustang in order to finalize the details prior to the purchase of
the child for sex.
Investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office used hidden cameras
in the residence, and deputies were staged inside the house to effect Lunday’s
arrest. During the conversation, Lunday told the CI he liked younger girls because sexual abuse does not affect them as much. Lunday also wanted to
watch child pornography before the child arrived in order to warm himself up
and settle his nerves.
While in the CI’s house, Lunday took Viagra to prepare himself for the encounter with the five-year-old girl, and he told the CI he had fantasized about performing oral sex on a female child, with an adult female watching.
Lunday told the CI that he had watched child pornography in the past. The
CI was able to maintain their composure and was instrumental in the success
of the investigation and sting operation. Based on Lunday’s admissions to the
CI, investigators were able to obtain and execute a search warrant of Lunday’s
residence the next afternoon, where they seized a number of electronic devices,
including an Ipad, laptop computers, and his personal cell phone.
Lunday was taken into custody at the CI’s residence on March 2 after $400
was exchanged with the CI to be split between the CI and a fictitious foster-parent providing the child. Investigators found a receipt in the CI’s kitchen showing
that Lunday had stopped at a Target (just minutes before he arrived at the CI’s
house) and purchased condoms and lubrication to be used during sex with the
fictitious five-year-old.
Lunday, an Oklahoma City based attorney, was arrested for Lewd Acts with
a Child Under 12 and Soliciting Child Prostitution. He was transported to the
Canadian County Detention Facility, and his bond was set at $250,000. Investigators are continuing their investigation to see if there are more victims.
“This sting operation was carried out in a very professional manner by my
investigators, and the confidential informant’s role in Lunday’s arrest was paramount in making the operation a success,” said Chris West, Canadian County
Sheriff.

March is National Youth Violence
Prevention Month
The National Association of Students
Against Violence Everywhere is a nonprofit
aiming to provide safer environments for
our youth. Its mission is to decrease the
potential for violence in our schools and
communities by promoting meaningful student involvement, education and service
opportunities.
SAVE’s Vision: Schools and communities will be safer and more secure, free of
fear and conducive to learning as a result of
students being actively involved in meaningful violence prevention efforts.
How It Got Started: SAVE was started by students in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1989 after the tragic death of a classmate who was trying to break up a
fight at an off-campus party. A group of students who did not want this death
to be “just another statistic” took action and created a violence prevention
program.
Chapters: SAVE has evolved into a national association with chapters in
elementary, middle and high schools as well as at colleges and community organizations across the country. Today, there are more than 200,000 students
involved nationwide.
Activities: Student members take the lead in planning chapter activities by
using the three SAVE Essential Elements: conducting crime prevention activities, conducting conflict management activities and providing meaningful service through projects in schools and communities. SAVE chapters also plan
safety rallies and safety awareness campaigns, engage in peer mentoring to
younger students, and conduct fun and educational meetings.

Sayre man Jacob Tyler Smith, 23, was arrested last month for allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to a 17-year-old girl.
The man previously served as a Beckham
County deputy.
According to reports, Smith worked for the sheriff’s office for approximately
four months. He was immediately suspended when someone sent an anonymous tip about him through the Beckham County Sheriff’s app.
Authorities investigated the initial allegations against him, and he was terminated shortly after.
Deputies went to the man’s home on February 17 and placed him under
arrest.
Smith is being charged with soliciting sexual conduct or communication
with a minor by use of technology. His bond was set at $25,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on April 17, 2023.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Two men, both whom were far from home, were
arrested on February 10 after a state trooper found
cocaine and other drugs in their vehicle during a
traffic stop.
According to reports, the trooper stopped the
men when he noticed their vehicle following another car too closely. When the trooper approached
the vehicle, he noticed the strong smell of weed.
He spoke to the driver, 27-year-old Benedict Ostine
from Madison, Tennessee, in his patrol car.
The trooper then went to speak to the passenger, identified as Alabama man Martez McNabb,
32. The trooper ordered him out of the car. While
searching the man, McNabb became uncooperative. The trooper put him in handcuffs and placed
him in the patrol car.
While searching the vehicle, the trooper found
a large cardboard box and two duffel bags. In the
box, he discovered sealed packages in kilo-sized
bricks. When troopers found the drugs, McNabb escaped from the patrol vehicle
and took off running.
Troopers quickly apprehended him.
In the box, there were a total of 26 bricks weighing 72.5 pounds of suspected
cocaine. Troopers also seized three plastic bags containing a pink powder that
weighed 11 pounds.
The powder was sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for analysis.
Ostine is being charged with aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs.
McNabb is being charged with aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs and bringing
contraband into jail/penal institution, both after the former conviction of a felony,
and possession of a controlled dangerous substance and escape from arrest or
detention.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court on April 7, 2023. ALDO

14 | MARCH 2023 WASHITA COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
On March 7, Oklahoma voters will have a say on whether or not to legalize
recreational marijuana use with SQ 820 on the ballot. If this question passes,
how do you think this will affect crime in our state? Should driving under the
influence of drugs become a felony? Should those convicted of misdemeanor
marijuana charges in the past be cleared?
Let us hear your opinion!
Misttina B: Colorado crime rate skyrocketed after legalizing marijuana. It should
be treated like any other mind altering substance for DUI.
Rockey L: Yes, it should be felony for driving under the influence of drugs and
for those whom had misdemeanors for marijuana charges should not be cleared
as they knew they were breaking the law at the time they were caught.
April F: Rockey Lee the part that makes it a felony or misdemeanor is the fact
of how many charges you prior or if your caught with a large amount..it is really no
difference than DUI with alcohol
Monkeys P: I don’t think it will affect crime but we need it to pass. We need the
jail space for violent criminals. It should have already become federally legal . It is
not deadly like tobacco and alcohol
Rockey L: Monkeys P Just like cigarettes marijuana can cause emphasima and
copd which can be deadly and alcohol is deadly when consumed and you get
behind the wheel of a car. So where do you draw the line ?
Robbie W: Driving under the influence of anything that visibly impaired you driving should be a felony in the first place. I really don’t think it will effect crime. It might
drop from fewer marijuana arrests. And all you can hope for is that these people
strung out on worse drugs choose pot because it’s legal.
Jerry K: I’m trying to figure this out. Last vote, it was said that this is a needed
medicine for some people. Now some are wanting to use it recreationally. What
other medicine do we do that with??? I don’t remember the last time I took a anti-biotin for a fun Saturday night. Look at what it did to Colorado.
Robbie W: Jerry K alcohol
Jerry K: Alcohol is not used as medicine unless you are talking rubbing alcohol.
Maria M: Man marijuana is not a drug in the first place it is and always has been
a plant. So no it shouldn’t be a felony for that worry about the drunk drivers alcohol is legal and more people get killed by drunk drivers than anything else. Really
have you heard of any wrecks where they smoked??? And yes so many people
have been punished harshly for smoking a plant that is natural. It is time for our
society to open their eyes and see this plant is helping people with their mental
and physical issues.
