We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

Repair Fraud!
In Oklahoma, the wind and
rain that come with spring can
wreak havoc on our homes and
property. By being prepared
and being aware, consumers
can avoid being victimized.
Be alert to several clues that
might indicate a less-than-reputable repairman. Be wary of
anyone who solicits door-todoor, offers discounts for finding other customers or “just
happens to have” materials left
over from a previous job. Also,
be suspicious of a repairman who accepts only cash payments, pressures you for an immediate decision or asks you to pay for the entire
job up-front.
Remember the following tips:
-Ask people you trust for referrals.
-Whenever possible, deal with local firms with roots in the community.
-Check out the repairman with the Attorney General’s Consumer
Protection Unit.
-Ask for customer references.
-Get written estimates from several firms.
-Don’t do business without a written contract.
-Get all guarantees, warranties and promises in writing.
-Agree on start and completion dates and have them written into
the contract.
The same rules apply when dealing with lawn, landscape, swimming pool or any type of speciality work.
Whether doing weather-related repairs or just general property
updates or repairs, consumers need to exercise caution before opening up their homes and their wallets. We can keep scam artists at
bay-even if we can’t say the same thing about Oklahoma weather.

A Mustang man was taken to jail May
1 after police found a cup in his vehicle
with weed floating in soda.
According to the affidavit, a Kingfisher officer was traveling southbound on
Highway 81 when he noticed a vehicle
that was driving in the middle of two
lanes.
He stopped the vehicle and made
contact with the driver, identified as
21-year-old Tyler Joseph Chrisman.
The officer asked him for his license
and insurance. When Chrisman reached across his car to retrieve his
insurance from the glove compartment, the officer detected a strong
odor of marijuana.
The officer told Chrisman he could smell marijuana coming from
the car and that he was going to conduct a search of the vehicle for
marijuana.
In the driver's seat, the officer found a small clump of a green leafy
substance that he recognized as marijuana. He field-tested the substance, and sure enough, it tested positive for marijuana.
An officer placed Chrisman under arrest and put him in a patrol
vehicle.
Police continued to search Chrisman's vehicle and found two glass
smoking pipes in the console, two bags with a green leafy substance,
a straw with a white residue, a social security card with a white residue, and a McDonald's cup with a green leafy substance floating in
liquid.
Chrisman is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He
was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on May 7, 2014.

that says the punishment must match the
injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for
a tooth.’ But I say, do not resist an evil

God’s purpose behind this law was an expression of mercy. The
law was given to judges and said, in effect, “Make the punishment fit
the crime.” It was not a guide for personal revenge. These laws were
given to limit vengeance and help the court administer punishment
that was neither to strict nor too lenient. Some people, however, were
using this phrase to justify their vendettas against others. People still
try to excuse their acts of revenge by saying, “I was just doing to him
what he did to me.”

Life is just a game to some
Luis Matienzo, a 19-year-old Illinois man, was jailed after he
allegedly played a video game for hours while his 2-year-old
stepson cried out in pain from a broken leg.
According to police, Matienzo was watching his 2-year-old
stepson when the child suffered a broken right femur while
playing inside a playpen at the home.
Matienzo allegedly played the video game “Grand Theft Auto
V” for two and a half hours “while knowing that the child was
injured with a leg injury, later found to be a broken right leg,”
according to the arrest affidavit.
Investigators say Matienzo later admitted to knowing that the
child was injured, but left the boy in his play pen crying because he didn’t want to stop
playing the video game.
He eventually stopped playing when it was time to pick up his wife. That’s when the child
was brought to a local hospital for medical care.
Matienzo was booked into jail and charged with misdemeanor child endangerment.

Although all signs pointed to intoxication, a repeat offender Clinton man
attempted to make a case for his sobriety while being arrested for a DUI
on April 24.
A Clinton police officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of S. 10th
Street in reference to an intoxicated
man driving a silver truck, the affidavit states.
When he arrived, he watched as the
suspect vehicle exited a parking lot
and began driving down 10th Street.
The officer stopped the vehicle and
made contact with the driver, identified as 55-year-old Carl Dewayne
Jackson.
According to the arresting officer, "the odor of intoxicating beverage that was coming from [Jackson's] person was overwhelming."
The stench of alcohol wasn't the only sign of intoxication. Jackson's eyes were also red and watery, and his hard-to-understand
speech was slow and slurred.
When Jackson exited the vehicle, he was very unsteady on his feet.
During field sobriety testing, Jackson fell numerous times and was
unable to follow simple instructions. The officer placed him under
arrest and asked him if he would take the state's test. Despite barely
being able to stand up, Jackson told the officer, "I'm not going to take
no damn test. I'm not drunk."
Luckily for other motorists in Watonga, the officer did not believe
Jackson's less than compelling argument, and he transported him to
the Clinton County Jail.
Jackson is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol after former conviction of two or more felonies. He was released on a $30,000 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on May 16, 2014.

Tremane Wood
Tremane Wood was convicted of
stabbing a 19-year-old Montana man
to death in a motel room on New
Year’s Day 2002.
Prosecutors alleged that Wood
and his brother, Zjaiton Wood, 34,
robbed Ronald Wipf, 31, and another
Montana man, Arnold Jonathan
Kleinsasser, before the stabbing.
Zjaiton Wood was sentenced to life
in prison without parole and an
additional 120 years for the robbery
and killing.
Wipf and Kleinsasser were working on a harvesting crew at a
farm in Chickasha. The two men were members of the Hutterites
of the Riverview Colony, a religious sect in Montana, and had
returned to Oklahoma after spending the holidays with their
families.
Prosecutors alleged that Kleinsasser and Wipf met two women,
Lanita Sue Bateman and Brandy Lynn Warden, at a restaurant
on New Year’s Eve 2001 and that they off ered to have sex with
the pair for $210. But prosecutors alleged that the women were
setting the men up to be robbed.
Bateman, 29, was sentenced to life in prison plus 101 years
for her role in the crime. Warden, 30, pleaded guilty to a lesser
charge and testifi ed against Bateman in exchange for a 45-year
prison sentence.

our agency to share them with us.
“The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office is working on a history project.
If you, your family, friends or acquaintances have any old photos or artifacts related to OCSO would love to have them or a digital copy”, said
Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office has been in existence since the
1890’s well before Oklahoma became a state in 1907, and we have very
few items in house to document our history. “These items we are looking for could be from the 1890s, the 1900s, during the Oklahoma City

A Sayre woman was arrested on April 28 after allegedly shooting
her husband when he told her he wanted a divorce.
According to the affidavit, the victim told police the violent demise
to their marriage started when he asked his wife for a divorce. He
told police that they had been having marital problems for awhile,
but when he asked for the 7-letter word, he said his wife shot him.
The victim's wife was identified as Janis Elaine Keahey, 65.
Keahey told police that she couldn't remember what had happened. She said that her husband treats her horribly and is mean to
her. She told police that she had found condoms in his truck several
days before, but when she asked him about them, "he just laughed."
Keahey told police that she just went crazy, and the next thing she remembered was police
arresting her.
The officer asked her if she remembered shooting her husband, and she told the officer, "He
was being so cocky and treats me like crap. Yes ma'am, that's what I did."
Keahey said after that, she just went blank, and she couldn't believe that she had done it.
The admitted husband-shooter said that she had consumed "two or three swallows of vodka" prior to the incident, and told the officer she was on a lot of medications for various ailments.
Keahey is being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon. She is being held
on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 22, 2014.

for drownings or near drownings, most of which can be prevented
with the use of Personal Floatation Devices. I’ve talked about them
before, but a refresher never hurts, so here goes!
First, let me just say that there are 5 types of PFDs. I’m not
going to get into their descriptions, just which types are required
for what situation. All PFDs must be U.S. Coast Guard approved,
and used in accordance with their label. The label will also state
the type. All vessels must carry one wearable (Type I, II, III,
or V) USCG approved PFD for each person on board or being
towed. In addition to that, vessels 16 feet in length or longer
must have one Type IV USCG approved PFD on board and readily
accessible. Oklahoma Law requires that all children under 13 years
of age wear an approved PFD whenever underway in a vessel less
than 26 feet in length. Each person on a personal watercraft or
sailboard must wear an approved PFD. Anyone being towed on
water skis or similar devices must wear an approved PFD. Ski belts
are not approved PFDs.
Now, besides being USCG approved, all PFDs must be: In good
serviceable condition. They must also be readily accessible. Readily
accessible means you must be able to put the PFD on in a reasonable
amount of time in an emergency. PFDs should not be stowed in
plastic bags, in locked compartments, or have other gear stowed on
top of them. They must also be of the proper size for the intended
wearer. Sizing for PFDs is based on body weight and chest size. A
good way to test this, especially for children, is to put it on, adjust
the straps, and have the wearer raise their arms up, and try to pull
it up off them. If it can come off, it is not the right size for the
wearer.
Those are the requirements, so now lets talk about the
suggestions. If you have children in or around water, make
sure they have a PFD on. Air mattresses, floaties, and other toy
floatation objects don’t count. There have been way too many
stories of toddlers near the water’s edge falling in and drowning,
and these could be prevented by following this suggestion. Also,
keep a watchful eye on those kids...even if they are only out of
your sight for a few seconds, its long enough for them to get in
trouble around the water. Last, wear one on boats even if you don’t
have to. In an emergency, you may not have enough time to put it

Tulsa Police arrested a 20-year-old man for a rape that they
say was filmed on a cell phone. Willie Donnell Jackson is being
held in lieu of a $75,000 bond on complaints of first degree
rape and rape by instrumentation.
Police say the victim went to her boyfriend’s apartment in
the 4800 block of South Darlington, agreeing to have sex with
him and another man. She drank about seven shots of alcohol
and smoked marijuana with them, an arrest and booking report
states.
“The victim stated at some point and time she passed out losing consciousness,”
the report states.
Police showed the woman cell phone video of Jackson having sex with her, and
the officer said the victim was shocked and very emotional, saying several times
that she did not give consent to having sex with Jackson.
She believed the marijuana cigarette had been laced with something because
“she did not remember a thing” that she saw on the video.
“The victim at the time of the sexual intercourse was unconscious of the nature
of the act,” the arresting officer said.
Police say Jackson would have been aware of her state because the men were
“physically moving her body into positions as well as turning her over onto her
back and stomach, and she appeared to be like a rag doll.”

A Watonga man wanted in the state of Arkansas found himself in trouble
in Oklahoma when he was arrested for possession of drugs and paraphernalia
on April 22.
According to the affidavit, dispatch advised a Watonga police officer that
wanted man Ira Lee Embry, 29, was within city limits. Embry had a warrant
out of Arkansas and was known to be selling and trafficking drugs in Watonga.
The reporting party told police that Embry was using a different name and
was possibly living with his girlfriend.
While on patrol, the officer noticed a vehicle that matched the suspect's, and
he was able to positively identify Embry.
He conducted a traffic stop and told Embry to exit the vehicle.
Embry complied, but he refused commands to place his hands on the vehicle. He turned toward
the officer and started to walk away. The officer tried to place handcuffs on Embry, but Embry
pushed him away and started to run. The officer was able to subdue him, and police placed Embry
in handcuffs.
Prior to arrest, the officer searched Embry for illegal items. He found a baggie containing a white
rock substance in his pocket that the officer believed to be crack cocaine. In Embry's vehicle, police
found a bag of a green leafy substance and digital scales.
Embry is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled drug with intent to distribute
and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on May 13, 2014.

A Burns Flat man pulled over for reckless driving attempted
to avoid arrest by acting like he was asleep in his truck. Unfortunately for him, the officer wasn’t stupid.
According to the affidavit, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol
trooper stopped Justin Paul Adams, 29, in the early morning
hours of April 27, because he had witnessed the man driving
recklessly through the streets of Canute. But when the trooper
approached Adams’s vehicle, the man was pretending to be
asleep. Adams eyelids kept moving and were squinted tight.
Despite the trooper yelling at him and banging on his windshield, Adams continued his pretend slumber, even though he
kept flinching when the trooper hit his window. The trooper
was making so much noise that multiple people came outside
to investigate the source of the clamor.
The trooper warned Adams that he was going to bust his
window out with a jack. Adams continued to ignore him, so the officer retrieved the jack and
shattered the window. Adams pretended to wake up, but refused when the officer told him to
exit the vehicle.
The trooper extricated Adams from his truck by force. He asked him if he had been drinking. Adams said he had been drinking with friends and then went to sleep in his truck for five
hours.
An employee of the business in the parking lot they were in told the officer Adams had left
the establishment five hours before.
Even so, Adams continued to claim he had been asleep in the parking lot.
The trooper found the truck’s engine to be warm, disputing Adams’s claim that he had been
sleeping for five hours.
The trooper took Adams to the hospital. Adams told the nurse he had consumed 12 beers;
he also smelled like alcohol, had red watery eyes, and became verbally combative with profanities and insults when the officer placed him under arrest.
Adams is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol,
resisting an officer, intersection violation and careless driving. He was released on a $3,438
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 26, 2014.
