A Woodward County jailer was put behind bars
in Canadian County after he was arrested in an undercover decoy sting by investigators in Canadian
County.
Francis Vandermey, of Woodward, was charged
October 10 with lewd or indecent proposals to child
under 16, in Canadian County District Court.
In an online statement, the Canadian County
Sheriff’s Office reminded families to remain vigilant about online safety. An undercover investigation that began on July 20, 2025, concluded with multiple arrests. One
notable arrest was Vandermey, a jailer of the Woodward County Sheriff’s Office, on
October 16, 2025. The investigation led to the recommendation of criminal charges
against Vandermey for inappropriate online communications with someone he believed to be a minor.
On July 20, 2025, during an undercover operation, investigators working through
online platforms identified an individual who initiated contact with a decoy portraying
an underage teenage girl. Over several weeks, the suspect engaged in conversations that quickly became inappropriate in nature. These conversations included
Vandermey sending explicit videos of himself to the decoy.
After reviewing the evidence, investigators identified the suspect as 56-year-old
Vandermey of Woodward. Based on the findings, a report was submitted to the
Canadian County District Attorney’s Office recommending charges for violations of
Oklahoma laws related to lewd acts with a minor and computer crimes. An arrest
warrant was issued for Vandermey on October 10, 2025.
“This investigation highlights how easily predators can reach young people online,”
said Canadian County Sheriff Chris West. “Our investigators and partner agencies
work tirelessly to protect children and hold offenders accountable. Parents should
take this as a reminder to talk openly with their kids about who they’re communicating with on the internet.”
Vandermey was arrested at work as a jailer at the Woodward County Sheriff’s
Office. Deputies were assisted by the Woodward County Sheriff’s Office during the
arrest of Vandermey. During the interview, Vandermey admitted to talking to what he
believed was an underage teenage girl.
Vandermey also stated he has been talking to other teenage girls as well. Vandermey told the investigator they would find Child Sexual Abuse Material on his phone.
Vandermey was transported to the Canadian County Jail. Bond was set at $25,000.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages parents and guardians to regularly monitor their
children’s online activity, set privacy controls, and report any suspicious or inappropriate contact to law enforcement immediately.

An Erick man was arrested after he allegedly
made violent threats toward a woman and tried
to persuade her young daughter to help him carry
out those acts.
According to reports, the investigation began
after Erick Police reported that a man had threatened self-harm and was allegedly encouraging a
juvenile girl to kill her mother.
Beckham deputies later identified the suspect
as 46-year-old Kenneth Dean Flanagan.
When a Beckham County deputy met with the woman and her daughter, the
mother told investigators she believed Flanagan had been looking for the girl at
Sweetwater School. She also said he had made statements about killing her.
The child showed deputies a text message from October 15 in which Flanagan wrote, “I’m going to shoot your mom in the [expletive] face.” The girl also
said that Flanagan had talked about poisoning her mother’s food.
During an interview on October 23, the girl said that while riding in an off-road
vehicle the day before, Flanagan asked her, “Will you help me poison your mom
or let me shoot her in the face?”
The following morning, he told the girl that he would “run [the woman] out of
here by shooting at her.”
The girl also said that she often felt forced to mediate between the adults. She
said she was emotionally overwhelmed by the situation.
The man was arrested on October 23 at a residence near Erick.
Flanagan is being charged with child neglect and threaten to perform an act of
violence. His bond was set at $40,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on November 24, 2025. ASHLEY

PLAYING WITH FIRE
A Weatherford man is facing a manslaughter after he fatally
shot a friend while handling a handgun inside a home on November 14.
According to reports, Weatherford police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Texas Street at
approximately 9:48 p.m. to investigate reports of a man who
had a gunshot wound to the chest.
When officers arrived at the location, they found a woman
applying pressure to the victim’s chest. They also saw a 9mm
Taurus semi-automatic pistol on the kitchen counter.
Paramedics later pronounced the man dead at 10:30 p.m.
The woman said she had met friends for dinner and drinks earlier in the evening before returning
home. 24-year-old Jonathan David “Zombie” Bridges was at the home because he had a key and
was planning to move in soon. The woman said she went to a bedroom to make a phone call. She
decided to take a shower, and as she was getting out of the shower, she saw the victim grab a gun
from the nightstand. She later heard a gunshot and ran to the kitchen. She found the victim on the
kitchen floor bleeding. Bridges repeatedly apologized, saying he hadn’t meant to shoot him.
The woman told police that the men had a history of “playing around” with firearms. Officers found
multiple other guns inside the residence.
Bridges later waived his Miranda rights and told investigators he and the victim had been friends
for several years and were preparing to live together. He said he arrived at the home around 6:50
p.m. and consumed four to five alcoholic drinks. The two men began comparing guns and “dry
firing” them. Bridges said he removed the magazine from his 9mm pistol during this time, then reinserted it and placed the gun in its case after a short phone call with his father.
The men then resumed talking about firearms.
The victim dry fired his own handgun, and Bridges said he picked up his 9mm, cocked it, pointed
it, and pulled the trigger, expecting it to be empty. Instead, the gun fired, striking the man in the chest.
Bridges is being charged with manslaughter in the first degree (in commission of a misdemeanor).
He is scheduled to appear in court on December 19, 2025.

AMERICA’S DEADLIEST SHOOTINGS
ARE ONES WE DON’T TALK ABOUT
On any given day in America, an average of 63 of our mothers,
brothers, partners, and friends are taken from us by gun suicide.
But tomorrow’s deaths could be prevented. Give your loved ones
a second chance at life. Store your guns safely: locked, unloaded,
and away from ammo.

A Randolph County, West Virginia, woman is behind
bars after drugs were allegedly found in her personal
space during a traffic stop.
Michelle Lea Hawkins, 28, of Elkins, WV, is charged with
possession with intent — methamphetamine, and false
evidences, forgery of title and registration, both felonies.
She is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash only bond set by
Randolph County Magistrate Mike Dyer.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Trooper H.J. Bonetti of the West
Virginia State Police, the officer noticed a black 2001 Volkswagen Jetta driving without a
right mirror in Beverly.
Bonetti conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Hawkins, who said she did
not have her license with her, and that she did not have insurance on the vehicle, the
complaint states.
Running the vehicle’s registration through the State Police database, the officer learned
the registration had been expired since 2001, although the vehicle’s registration sticker
showed a “colored in black square with a white in color ‘2025’ writing,” according to the
complaint.
The officer placed Hawkins under arrest, the complaint states, and she said she “had
dope in her bra.” She removed a blue container from her bra and
handed it to the officer. It held two yellow baggies which contained
a white powder suspected to be methamphetamine.
The officer also searched Hawkins’ purse, finding $3,300 in
cash, a silver container and multiple-size baggies. Inside the silver container was a measuring scale, according to the complaint.
The officer asked Hawkins where the drugs came from, and she
allegedly said she was given the blue container in Beverly and was
delivering it to Mill Creek.
THAT'S METHED UP!
A Whitley County, Kentucky, woman is facing charges
after allegedly biting two sheriff’s deputies and breaking
one deputy’s nose with his own baton on October 13.
Amy Mabes, 37, was arrested after a deputy responded to a disturbance call on U.S. Highway 25 in Williamsburg, where someone was allegedly breaking windows at
a home.
According to an arrest citation, the deputy found Mabes
in the backyard with a large metal tool in her hand. When
ordered to drop the tool, Mabes initially refused and tried to get away when the deputy tried
to detain her.
A foot chase began when Mabes ran across U.S. Highway 25 into a heavily wooded area.
The deputy tried to use his Taser, but it was not effective. After taking Mabes to the ground
and putting her in handcuffs, the citation says she continued to resist arrest as they made their
way out of the woods.
Mabes slipped one handcuff and attempted to escape by striking and kicking the deputy.
During the physical confrontation, the deputy used his baton to get Mabes to stop resisting,
but he dropped the baton during the struggle.
Mabes picked it up and struck the deputy in the face with it, breaking his nose and causing
a laceration above his left eye that required stitches.
A second deputy arrived on scene to assist, but Mabes bit both deputies during the arrest.
Both deputies received medical treatment at Baptist Health in Corbin. After being taken into
custody, Mabes told authorities she has AIDS and hepatitis.
Mabes was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center on charges of criminal mischief
first degree, disorderly conduct second degree, fleeing or evading police first degree on foot,
resisting arrest, assault third degree on a police officer and assault first degree on a police
officer.
