in plain sight
A 61-year-old Tahlequah man was locked
up after he allegedly ran into some electrical
pole support cables across from the police
department after drinking a little too much on
March 10.
According to reports, a Tahlequah officer
noticed that a vehicle had driven off the road
across the street from the police department. It appeared the driver had run into and
knocked over some cables that were supporting an electrical pole on Choctaw Street.
When the officer went to investigate, the
driver, Rickey Dewayne Christie, exited the
vehicle. Christie told the officer that he fell
asleep while driving and veered off the road.
His vehicle became stuck in some mud.
The man explained when he tried to drive
out of the mud, his vehicle became stuck. At some point while trying to leave
the area, the vehicle pulled the electrical cables out of the ground.
While the man was speaking, the officer noticed that his breath smelled like
alcohol. He asked Christie to walk over to the police department parking lot.
The officer attempted to administer field sobriety tests to the man. Christie
couldn’t seem to follow instructions, and he was unsteady on his feet. The
officer placed him under arrest.
While conducting inventory of the man’s vehicle, the officer found a pipe,
some baggies and drug paraphernalia.
During booking, a jailer found a bottle of vodka and a container of marijuana
on Christie.
Christie is being charged with actual physical control of vehicle under the influence, possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession
of drug paraphernalia, open container of alcohol and driving under suspension. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on May 18, 2020.

A Missouri church leader and professor used Grindr to connect with students
at his university and then attempted to compensate them for sexual acts using
an Arby’s gift card, among other unconventional gifts. Barry Poyner, 57, a Kirksville, Mo., resident, professor at Truman State University and a church elder with
the Kirksville Church of Christ, used the handle “DILF” on Grindr to connect with
male students at Truman State, according to the Daily Express. Poyner then
offered to pay for sexual acts in unorthodox ways, telling an undercover officer
that he “might throw in an Arby’s card” along with paying to fuel up the officer’s
vehicle at a local gas station. Poyner said he was interested in a “sugar daddy
relationship” and that he’d provided partners with gift cards, clothes and cold
hard cash in the past, the Daily Express reported. Police set up the undercover
account after receiving a tip about Poyner’s use of the app, which is similar to
Tinder but specific to gay, bisexual and bi-curious men. Poyner offered to pay
for the fuel prior to the sex acts, and officers set up a sting at a local gas station,
according to the Daily Express. Poyner attempted to flee the scene when he
saw the cops, but only made it several blocks before giving up and pulling over.
When confronted, Poyner denied that he was there to provide gas, or Arby’s
Reubens, in exchange for sex acts, claiming instead that he was simply trying
to help out a student. Poyner has been charged with patronizing prostitution,
a misdemeanor, and faces up to six months in prison and a fine of $1,000 if
convicted, the Daily Express reported.
Rizwan Fadnis and Rajesh Surve, both 33, were arrested outside a bus depot in Mumbai for being in possession of 7 kg of whale vomit valued at over
$275,000 reports The Hindu. The substance, also known as ambergris, is unlawful to possess without a license. From the article: “The accused tried to
sell the whale vomit by claiming that its consumption helps increase the libido.
Ambergris is mainly used in perfumes and cosmetics and fetches a handsome
price based on its age. It has an unpleasant smell soon after it is secreted, and
as it ages, starts producing a sweet smell,” an officer said.
A white man in Maryland wearing blackface robbed a bank, police said. The
suspect robbed a PNC bank in Perryville, Maryland, a town about 40 miles
northeast of Baltimore, near the Delaware and Pennsylvania borders. “We are
seeking the public’s help in identifying the below pictured subject,” Perryville
police wrote on Facebook. Police described the suspect as “a white male, with
paint on his face,” who seemed to be in his late 20s to early 30s. Authorities did
not specify how much money he may have been able to steal from the bank.
A Florida motorist who had an open 38-ounce can of Budweiser in his car
door reportedly told police that the crack cocaine they also found in his vehicle
must have come through an act of nature. Zak Joseph, according to an affidavit
posted on the Smoking Gun, said the “wind must have placed it there” when
Fort Pierce found cocaine residue in his car. He also theorized the police had
planted the coke, which was found alongside what appeared to be a crack
pipe. The east Florida cops reportedly said the 37-year-old man had earlier
been spotted drinking in his car in a hotel parking lot. Officers say the hotel
where he was hanging out is a hotbed for drugs and prostitution. When Joseph’s vehicle pulled away and allegedly rolled past a stop sign, officers in an
unmarked car pulled him over and claimed to have seen him trying to conceal
his beverage. Officers also noted Joseph’s blurry eyes and said he was “very
confrontational and looking around the vehicle as if to conceal another item.”
That alleged item was a baggie of residue that tested positive for crack cocaine.
He was booked on charges including possession of paraphernalia. He maintained the drugs are not his.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

where the sun don’t shine
Two men were arrested on March 16 for alleged drug trafficking and possession of drug
trafficking. One man went the extra mile when
it came to concealing drugs and tried to hide
some meth up where the sun don’t shine, and
where no jailer wanted to go.
Reports state Wagoner County deputies assisted Wagoner police officers with a narcotics
drug trafficking sting at approximately 4 p.m.
near the Wagoner Walmart. Officers were informed that two suspects would be arriving
with some narcotics to transfer to another person.
While they were waiting, a vehicle carrying
two men pulled into the McDonald’s parking
lot. The men were later identified as Muskogee
man Jake Gary Roman, 26, and 29-year-old
Kason Buel Ray Ross from Poteau.
Officers placed the men under arrest.
A K-9 at the scene assisted a deputy with
searching the vehicle. Officers found multiple
items of drug paraphernalia and the men were
taken to jail.
During booking, officers discovered that the
narcotics the men were supposed to deliver
were hidden in a very discreet location on Roman’s person. Roman had apparently attempted to conceal the narcotics up his rectum. Since nothing gets past a drugsniffing K-9, it was a crappy situation for both Roman and the officers.
The bag was retrieved from Roman’s, um, body. It contained 30 grams
of meth.
Ross and Roman are being charged with trafficking in illegal drugs
and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Ross’s bond was set at
$50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 21, 2020. Roman’s bond was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on May 20, 2020.

Tips for Everyone:
• Trust your instincts when you are with someone
about whom you feel uncomfortable (e.g., in an
elevator, in a car, in your home). This can be
especially difficult for both children and adults who
have been socialized to be polite.
• Do not talk yourself out of feeling uncomfortable
being alone with someone simply because he or
she is an acquaintance or a friend of a friend. Most
sexual abusers are someone the victim knows and
may even trust. Be wary of friends or dates who
test your boundaries by making unwanted physical
advances to you and then ignore or minimize your
protests and other signs that you do not like their
behavior.

Sallisaw man arrested for child porn
Sallisaw man Clay Brandon Morton, 39, is
facing child pornography charges after he allegedly sent child pornography to other people via a cellphone.
Reports state a Sequoyah County deputy
met with two investigators with the Checotah Police Department on March 8 due to
a child pornography investigation. Morton
had allegedly sent some child pornography
to a woman in Checotah through his mobile
phone. The woman told police she met Morton, who told her his name was “Billy Smith”
on a dating app. The two had been texting
each other.
At some point during their texting correspondence, Morton allegedly sent the woman a photo of a minor female and a dog. Morton told the woman the female
in the picture was his niece, and he had been having sex with her. He also
allegedly sent the woman pictures of him and the girl having sex.
When investigators confronted Morton about the allegations, he admitted
that he knew why they were there. He also admitted to sending the photos to
other women, in addition to the reporting party.
Morton told police that he found the photos from the internet and didn’t
actually have any physical contact with children. He also said he didn’t know
why he looks at child pornography.
While searching the man’s home, officers retrieved more than 100 images
of child pornography and violent child pornography. Some of the images involved infant children.
Morton is being charged with aggravated possession of child pornography
and distribution of obscene material or child pornography. He was scheduled
to appear in court on March 25, 2020.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3)
charity located in East Taunton, MA whose
mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law

agencies with this potentially lifesaving body
armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since
its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,800 U.S. made,
custom fitted, NIJ certified protective vests in 50 states, through private and
corporate donations, at a value of $6.9 million dollars.
The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of

Inmate visitation to cease across state
prisons
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Department of Corrections is canceling all
visitation and all volunteer access to facilities effective at 6 p.m. today. This decision
is necessary to keep staff, inmates and
volunteers safe from the spread of COVID-19 inside a facility.
ODOC is taking a number of proactive
steps to prevent introduction and spread
of COVID-19 inside facilities, closely adhering to guidelines set by the American
Correctional Association, Oklahoma State
Department of Health (OSDH), and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. The
agency is utilizing its “Management of Pandemic Influenza” procedure (MSRM-140118-02) as the basis for developing
a specific, comprehensive response to COVID-19. Steps include screening
all new inmate arrivals for symptoms of COVID-19 and suspending all inmate
security movements. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
ODOC understands the importance of inmates connecting with family
members. The agency is working to expand options to allow such interaction.
Each week, the agency director will reassess the need to keep visitors and
volunteers from entering facilities. For the most up-to-date information, the
public can call 405-425-2556 to hear a recorded message. The public can
also follow ODOC’s website and social media platforms for updates.
The agency continues to work closely with OSDH and emergency officials
as they respond and manage Oklahoma’s response to the COVID-19 virus.
Numerous other states’ corrections departments are similarly restricting access to prisons in order to keep staff, inmates and volunteers safe from the
spread of COVID-19.

A Muskogee man was put behind bars
for allegedly stealing a police patrol car and
struggling with officers on March 23.
Reports states Muskogee police found
Terry McCrary standing in the middle of West
Broadway. He was yelling at two other people. Officers activated their emergency lights
as they pulled up to the scene. McCrary approached a patrol car and tried to open the
passenger’s side door. When another officer arrived on scene and exited his patrol
car, McCrary jumped in the driver’s seat and
drove away.
After driving about a block, he jumped out
of the car and took off running. McCrary left
the patrol car in gear – it kept going until it crashed into a fence at 2601 West
Broadway.
Officers caught up to the man. A brief struggle ensued, and McCrary was
eventually placed under arrest and transported to jail.
According to reports, it appeared that the man was under the influence of
intoxicants, possibly PCP.
McCrary is being charged with larceny of automobile, aircraft or other motor vehicle, leaving scene of accident involving damage, battery/assault and
battery on police officer, escape from arrest or detention and three counts of
assault and battery. His bond was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2020.
