A wanted Tulsa man who was spotted in Verdigris
was placed under arrest after an officer found heroin
and marijuana in the man’s socks.
On November 22, a Verdigris officer as on patrol
when he pulled into a gas station parking lot on
Highway 66. He saw a vehicle parked in the lot that
he knew belonged to 19-year-old Grant Wesly Morris. The officer knew that Morris had active warrants
through Rogers County.
He approached the vehicle and asked the man to
step out of the car. The officer placed Morris in handcuffs and asked if he had any weapons or items on his
person that could poke, stick or hurt the officer. Morris said no, but while patting
down the man, the officer found two needles in Morris’s sock. When he asked the
man what they were for, Morris replied, “Heroin.”
The officer also found a baggie containing a green leafy substance that tested
positive for marijuana, a folded up piece of aluminum with ashes inside and a
baggie containing a white substance. Morris told the officer that the white substance was heroin.
In the man’s vehicle, the officer found a small cut straw with a white powdery
substance. Morris also identified the substance on the straw as heroin -- he said
he used the straw to snort heroin.
Morris is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,500 and he is
scheduled to appear in court on December 10, 2015.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

PETIT LARCENY PETIT LARCENY DOMESTIC A&B PETIT LARCENY PETIT LARCENY PETIT LARCENY RESISTING OFFICER
A mother and son duo tag
teamed a Webbers Falls police officer after he stopped their juvenile
relative on a traffic violation.
Jesse Smith, 19, and Patricia
Smith, 43, both of Porum, face
several charges in the attack.
Jesse Smith was charged with
aggravated assault and battery on
a police officer, assault and battery
on a police officer, resisting an officer, malicious injury to property
under $1000, obstruction of an
officer, and escape from arrest or
detention.
Patricia Smith was charged with three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, two
counts of malicious injury to property under $1000, resisting an officer, obstructing an officer,
and escape from arrest to detention.
According to the police affidavit, a Webbers Falls police officer stopped a pickup truck with
expired tags on November 24 at I-40 and Exit 287 around 11 p.m. The driver was a 16-year-old
male. When the juvenile handed the officer his license, the officer discovered he had a restriction
on his license and needed an 18-21 year-old driver in the vehicle with him. The 16 year-old said
he would contact his dad.
Shortly thereafter, a vehicle pulled up behind the patrol car and two people got out: the juvenile’s mother, Patricia Smith, and his older brother, Jesse Smith. As the officer attempted to
explain what was going on, Jesse became agitated and started cussing at the officer. At that time,
Patricia stepped in between her eldest son and the officer and told her son to calm down. It didn’t
work.
Jesse then pushed the officer, grabbed his body camera and threw it into a ditch. When the officer told him he was going to be detained, the fireworks started. Jesse then punched the officer in
the face. When the officer defended himself, he broke his wrist.
Somehow the officer was able to get Jesse against the car, but while he was trying to cuff Jesse,
Patricia pushed the officer off Jesse, freeing her son. After that, the mother and son tag teamed the
officer, kicking and hitting him repeatedly.
During the scuffle, the officer tased both of them, but to no effect. Patricia then screamed, “I
have bigger toys than that, mother f**ker!” She then went back to her vehicle.
The officer finally got Jesse in cuffs, but then Patricia came back from the car with her hands
behind her back. Fearing for his life, the officer drew his service weapon and told her to show her
hands. When she refused, he warned her that he would shoot her if she did not show him her
hands. She realized it was no longer a taser in his hands and dropped to her knees, showing her
hands.
Jesse saw that as a way to get an edge on the officer and began attacking him again. Patricia
then joined in. A Warner officer showed up just in time, as the officer felt as if he was about to pass
out. The two complied and were hauled off to the Muskogee County jail. Patricia continued to be
combative and had to be put in a restraint chair.
The officer sustained a broken wrist, bruised ribs and a bruised sternum.
Throughout the whole ordeal, the poor 16 year-old begged and pleaded for his mother and
brother to stop.
Original bond was set for $100,000 each and they were ordered to return to court Dec. 17, 2015.

A Nowata woman was locked up on
November 29 after she allegedly barged
into a house and refused to leave.
Maygen Kirby Smith, 31, also took a
swing at officers when they tried to find
out what was going on.
A Nowata County deputy was dispatched to the residence in the 900 block
of E. Modoc shortly after midnight. According to the police report, the caller said a woman walked
into her home and refused to leave. When the deputy arrived, he immediately noticed that the woman seemed to be
under the influence of some kind of drugs -- she couldn’t
stand still and her pupils were dilated.
The victim said she and her children were inside their
home when Smith “barged” in the front door. She pushed
down two of the children and demanded that they all leave
“her house.” One of the kids was able to grab a cellphone
and call the police.
When the deputy tried to speak to the woman, identified
as Smith, she immediately became combative and tried to
hit him with her fist. Other officers assisted in restraining
the woman.
Smith continued to resist, but she was eventually placed
in cuffs and put in the patrol car. She continued to kick and
fight until she was locked up in a jail cell.
Smith is being charged with breaking and entering dwelling without permission, assault and battery, and resisting
an officer. Her bond was set at $1,000, and she is scheduled
to appear in court on December 28, 2015.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Today, I’m going to discuss who has the
biggest impact on our new drivers that hit
the road each and every day. First, the
Oklahoma Driver’s Education classes and
schools across the state are second to none, and do a fantastic job of educating
our young drivers on the law, and proper way to safely operate a motor vehicle. I
would like to point to some other folks, who I believe have a far greater impact on
how our youngsters approach driving, and address them, and that is the adults
who these young drivers look up to: the parents, older siblings, and extended
family.
If you fit in this category, please pay attention. I believe that our kids learn
their driving behavior not from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, other law
enforcement, or driver’s education instructor, but from you, the parents and
family. I know I learned that way! Let me give you some examples.
You are a dad, and for whatever reason, when you are driving in town, or on a
county road, you just don’t buckle up. Maybe its because you don’t drive fast in
these areas, or have a farm tag and just don’t have to; however, you do buckle up
when you get on highways or go on long drives. The message you are sending is
that when you are in the vehicle there are certain times that it is ok not to wear
your seat belt. If dad doesn’t have to do it, I don’t either! In fact, at least 50%
of all accidents happen on county roads, and you are more likely to be in an
accident within 10 miles of your residence than otherwise. So the real message
you are sending is, don’t buckle up during the times that you are most likely to
need it!
Next, mom gets off work at 5:00, and one of the kids has a ball game in another
town at 5:30. She can get there if she speeds. After all, it is important to get to
those activities, and it won’t hurt to push the speed just a little. The message
you send to your kids is, its ok to speed, as long as you can justify it! The facts
are that unsafe speeds kill more young people 16 to 25 than any other single
thing! The message here needs to be that its ok to slow down and show up a few
minutes late.....it is much better than the alternative, which is never showing up
at all because you’ve been involved in an accident. Please remember, when you
are driving, you are setting the example for someone....and they are watching
you all the time. What message are you sending? I hope it’s the one that says,
I’ll lead by example because I love you, and want to do my part to keep you
safe! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

Vian man Gavin Wade Kemper, 24, and 51-year-old
Franklin Deloy Byrd of Sallisaw allegedly stole some
stuff from a Vian residence on November 25. No one
was home at the time, but a game camera caught the
men in the act.
On November 29, a Sequoyah County deputy was
dispatched to a residence on E. 1025 Road due to some
stolen property. The homeowner said he had been staying with his parents, but went to his house and checked
the game cameras. The cameras caught a “strange”
truck drive onto his property then leave with some of
his stuff.
According to the police report, the alleged burglary
happened on November 25. The victim said he thought
he saw the suspect vehicle parked in front of a nearby
residence. He said he saw some of his stuff still in the
back of the truck.
The deputy went to the residence, which was about
one mile south of the victim’s home. The truck and tag
number on the vehicle matched what the victim’s game
camera captured.
The deputy made contact with Kemper, who agreed
to talk about the incident. Kemper said he and Byrd
were riding around together. Kemper saw the residence
and he thought it was unoccupied, so, the men drove
up to the house and knocked on the door. They saw that the front door was padlocked, so they loaded up some items from the residence and took off.
Kemper said he needed to sell some stuff to get money for prescription pills.
Some of the stolen items were found at the man’s home. He also said he sold
some stuff to a Sallisaw salvage shop.
The deputy then went to Byrd’s residence. The man wasn’t home, but the deputy did see some of the stolen items sitting outside the house.
Byrd had been arrested earlier that day in Sallisaw for driving under suspension. The deputy went to the jail to talk to the man. Byrd said he and Kemper had
been driving around, and they took the items from the residence.
Byrd is being charged with grand larceny. He was released on an $8,000 bond
and is scheduled to appear in court on January 20, 2016.
Kemper is being charged with grand larceny. He is scheduled to appear in
court on December 9, 2015.

A Pryor woman and her Wagoner hubby were arrested
November 24 after they allegedly stole some stuff from her
daddy’s house on November 23.
Samantha Kylie Jo Christi, 23, and Dustin C. Rankins, 26,
tried to lie to police about the theft -- too bad the stolen items
were found in their home.
According to the affidavit, a Wagoner officer was dispatched to the victim’s home on E. 682 Drive. The victim said
Christi and Rankins had stolen several items from his home
during the night. He said he left to go to work around 6 p.m.
the previous evening and is daughter came over to do some laundry. He said she
didn’t have permission to take anything from the house.
When he came home the next morning, he discovered that two televisions, a
DVD player, some jewelry, a Christmas tree, some holiday decorations and several
other items were missing.
The officer obtained a search warrant to search Christi’s apartment in the 600
block of S. Polk for the missing items. He made contact with Christi and Rankins.
Christi at first said that the TVs in the house were hers. She then changed her
story and said that she picked up a TV from her parents’ house when she went to
do some laundry.
Christi continued to lie to police during the investigation.
Rankins said that his brother picked up Christi at her parents’ house. When they
returned, they had two TVs.
During a search of the couple’s home, police found two TVs, a DVD player, a
Christmas tree and some decorations. The victim identified the items as his.
Christi is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property and larceny
from the house. Her bond was set at $7,000, and she is scheduled to appear in
court on January 6, 2016.
Rankins is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property and larceny from the house. His bond was set at $7,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on December 17, 2015.

Tulsa man Cody Gibson, 26, and his Claremore girlfriend,
26-year-old Bobbie Kochana Green, were arrested November 15
after they allegedly stole some drugs from a man and left him for
dead following an altercation.
According to the affidavit, a Craig County deputy went to conduct
a welfare check on a man, but he found the man’s body lying on a
county road. It appeared the man had been killed from blunt force
trauma to his head. His wallet was open and empty, and one of his
front pockets was partially pulled out. The console in the deceased’s
truck was open and it looked like someone had gone through it.
Green and Gibson were identified as suspects.
Gibson was arrested on warrants. He told police he and Green
bought some meth from the deceased man at his residence. When
they left, he said the victim followed them and demanded his drugs
back. A fight ensued and when the couple left, Gibson said the man
was lying in the road and asking for help.
Gibson admitted that he went back to the scene the following evening and found the man’s motionless body.
Green told police she and Gibson stole some meth from the man
and fled his residence. The man followed them and rammed her
car. She said he then started hitting them with a “tire bumper.” She
took the weapon from him and hit him in the head. She said the
man was still alive when they left. But, the couple returned the next
day to look for her cellphone, and they found the man lying in the
road.
Green allowed police to search her belongings.
Officers found a checkbook belonging to the victim, the victim’s truck keys, and a table leg
that Green later said she used to hit the man in the head.
Green is being charged with murder in the first degree, robbery with a dangerous weapon
and burglary in the second degree. Her bond was set at $500,000.
Gibson is being charged with murder in the first degree, robbery with a dangerous weapon
and burglary in the second degree. His bond was set at $500,000.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on January 15, 2016.

A Rockport, Texas, man was arrested in Miami
on November 28 after he scared a convenience store
clerk when he asked her where he could buy drugs.
According to the affidavit, a Miami officer was dispatched to the convenience store in the 2200 block
of E. Steve Owens Blvd. shortly after 6 p.m. The
store clerk said a man parked his tractor trailer in
the middle turn lane on E. Steve Owens before entering the store and asking the clerk where he could
buy drugs.
The clerk said the man seemed to be intoxicated.
The suspect was spotted heading westbound on
E. Steve Owens. An officer followed the vehicle and
noticed that it kept swerving across the center lines.
When he turned on his lights in an attempt to stop
the truck, the suspect kept on going and swerving.
About a quarter mile after the intersection at County Road E. 110, the man
finally came to a stop. The officer ordered him out of the truck at gunpoint and
placed him in handcuffs.
The man was identified as 52-year-old Rocky Lewis Spires.
Spires said he didn’t know that an officer was trying to stop him. His speech
was thick and slurred and he smelled like alcohol. However, he denied drinking.
The officer placed Spires under arrest and transported him to jail. Police
searched the man’s truck and trailer prior to impound. In the cab of the truck,
the officer found three open beer cans (one still contained liquid and was cold to
the touch) and a dog.
Spires is being charged with attempting to elude police officer, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and transporting open bottle or
container of liquor. His bond was set at $1,816, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on January 4, 2016.
