Two men tried to get away with theft from Walmart
by putting 20-cent stickers on oil and buying a large
tray of fruit.
A Catoosa police officer stopped the vehicle of Broken
Arrow man Courtney Ryan Harlan, 38, on February 8
after he had received reports that the man was placing stolen computers in his trunk while parked in the
Walmart parking lot, according to the affidavit. Harlan
was unable to produce any kind of identification to the
officer, so the officer asked him to step out of the car.
Police placed him in handcuffs.
Officer found Coweta man Joseph Aaron Roberts,
25, sitting in the passenger seat eating from a large
fruit tray that was sitting on sitting on his lap. He also
had two new gallon bottles of oil from Walmart, but he
said he didn’t have a receipt for the items.
An officer found a receipt in his wallet for the fruit
and two 20-cent items.
Walmart loss prevention told police that Roberts
had gone through the self-checkout and paid for the
fruit and oil. They said he only put a $20 bill in the
machine, but the items should have been more than
$20, since the oil costed about $20 a gallon and the
fruit costed $12.98.
An officer looked at the oil, and he noticed a fake paper sticker over the bar
code. When scanned, the sticker made the item 20 cents.
Both men were placed under arrest.
In Roberts’s pocket, police found a plastic baggy containing a clear crystal substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Once they arrived at the jail, police discovered a small baggy containing a crystal substance that tested positive for meth, a baggy containing a green substance
and a small pill.
Harlan is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance,
bringing contraband into jail institution and larceny of merchandise from retailer. His bond was set at $10,500.
Roberts is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance
and knowingly concealing stolen property. His bond was set at $3,000.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on February 23, 2014.

We often receive calls asking if there is a
price to keep someone out of our publication.
The short answer to that question is NO! OK
Jailbirds has never accepted money or favor to
not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the
arresting officer of someone at the jail told
them all they have to do is pay us money and
we will not publish their photo. This is NOT
true. We feel that taking money in exchange
for not publishing an arrest photo is extortion
and, as such, should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money
to remove a person’s arrest information. OK
Jailbirds never has and never will. If an arrest
doesn’t make our paper, it is only because we
didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

After more than a year of courtroom delays leading up to a
potential jury trial, a Park Hill man pleaded guilty to wildlife
charges involving a rare piebald whitetail deer.
Cherokee County prosecutors filed charges in November
2013 against James D. Delaney accused of illegally harvesting
“Patches”; a buck that was somewhat famous in the Keys area
near Lake Tenkiller.
The buck began showing up on game cameras about five
years earlier and immediately became a Key’s area celebrity.
Many would feed him near his hang-out on Horseshoe Bend
Road and pictures were passed around on social media regularly. Research shows his distinct white piebald patches to be
a genetic variation that could be as rare as 1 in 20,000.
The same social media that enjoyed Patches presence also
alerted Oklahoma game wardens to his questionable death. Game Wardens Brady May and
Cody Youngblood began investigating Delaney’s prize buck two days after it was killed. While
Oklahoma law no longer places restrictions on the harvest of piebald deer, hunters must follow all state deer hunting regulations and licensing requirements.
Over a year later on January 28, 2015, Delaney agreed to vacate his request for a jury trial.
In return, he would be granted a dismissal of the charges upon payment of reduced fines and
court costs. He was directed by the court to pay $1,167 in total fines and court costs for hunting without a license and taking the deer illegally. In addition, a charge of failure to produce
an archery license upon request to game wardens was dismissed and the state waived restitution charges for loss of the deer to the sportsmen which carried a minimum $1,500.00 fee. In
the end, the infamous deer trophy that was so zealously sought after by Delaney was forfeited
to the state.
The rare piebald deer cape and rack will now become the property of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. “It will be sent to our Oklahoma City headquarters and placed appropriately
where it can be used for educational purposes”, May said.

The National Association
of Students Against Violence
Everywhere is a nonprofit
aiming to provide safer environments for our youth.
Its mission is to decrease the
potential for violence in our
schools and communities by
promoting meaningful student involvement, education
and service opportunities.
SAVE’s Vision: Schools and
communities will be safer
and more secure, free of fear
and conducive to learning as
a result of students being actively involved in meaningful violence
prevention efforts.
How It Got Started: SAVE was started by students in Charlotte,
North Carolina in 1989 after the tragic death of a classmate who was
trying to break up a fight at an off-campus party. A group of students
who did not want this death to be “just another statistic” took action
and created a violence prevention program.
Chapters: SAVE has evolved into a national association with chapters in elementary, middle and high schools as well as at colleges and
community organizations across the country. Today, there are more
than 200,000 students involved nationwide.
Activities: Student members take the lead in planning chapter
activities by using the three SAVE Essential Elements: conducting
crime prevention activities, conducting conflict management activities and providing meaningful service through projects in schools
and communities. SAVE chapters also plan safety rallies and safety
awareness campaigns, engage in peer mentoring to younger students, and conduct fun and educational meetings.

A Sallisaw man became so angry about his wife’s Facebook post
that he allegedly choked and hit
her.
Ronnie Crissell, 36, was arrested February 8 for domestic abuse
and possession after police found
drugs and paraphernalia in his
home.
According to the affidavit, Crissell’s wife told Sallisaw police
her husband was angry at her for
something she had put on Facebook the night before. She said
when he got home from work, she
noticed he was upset. She said she
kept asking him what was wrong.
He finally told her he was angry about the Facebook post.
When she apologized to him, she said he grabbed her by the neck
and started choking her. She said he then “tackled” her into the
couch and started slapping and hitting her. She added Crissell then
grabbed his gun and left the residence.
He came back before police arrived.
While police were standing outside speaking to the victim, Crissell walked outside in an “aggressive manner.” An officer told him to
stop and put his hands behind his back. He was placed in handcuffs.
The victim showed police where Crissell had his gun in the house.
An officer found a loaded 9mm pistol; he also found a bong, a pipe
and a baggy containing a green leafy substance.
Crissell was placed under arrest and transported to jail. He is being
charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of
drug paraphernalia. Bond and court information were unavailable
at time of print.

CHILD ENDANGERMENT OBSTRU CTING OFFICER PUBLIC intox a&B GRAND LARCENY GRAND LARCENY
By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
With this most recent ice
and snow storm that gripped
Oklahoma, there obviously were
some significant obstacles to safe driving. One that I have noticed,
that doesn’t really get a lot of attention, is the visibility that is
obstructed by iced over windshields and windows on vehicles. I’m
going to touch on some of that, to try to raise some awareness about
it, and give some tips to help us stay safe.
We’ve all seen it...a vehicle coming down the road with just a
small hole scraped in the windshield so the driver could see the
road. Every time I see it, I cringe! The law that governs this is
Oklahoma State Statute 47:12-404.C, which states: “No person
shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster, other nontransparent material, or debris, including but not limited to snow,
ice, or frost upon the front windshield or the side wings, or side
or rear windows......which obstructs, obscures, or impairs the
driver’s clear view of the highway ahead or to either side or of any
intersecting highway.” What this means to the everyday driver is
that the little hole you scraped to drive by, just won’t cut it! While
compliance is the goal, the reason is safety! Obviously the chances
of an accident drastically increase as visibility decreases...so why
limit our vision to just a small hole out the front windshield?
There are several ways to clear those windshields, both
mechanically and chemically. A simple ice scraper has been the
preferred method for as long as most people can remember. They
are inexpensive, and easy to find. Another method is simply to
go out 10 minutes before you leave, start your car up, and get the
defroster going! When the windows are clear, you are good to go.
Still another way is to obtain any number of chemical de-icing
sprays that are available at most stores. Don’t pour hot water
on your windows, as the change in temperatures can cause your
window to crack or break!
While we are talking about it, lets not forget about those side and
rear widows. A significant percentage of accidents happen while
backing, so it stands to reason that we need to be able to see out
our back glass as well as the front. Side windows are no different,
no one wants to be struck by a vehicle they couldn’t see when they
pull into an intersection. After you finish with those side windows,
go ahead and hit those side mirrors as well!
All of these suggestions simply take a little extra time, and
sometimes money, but the time and money pale in comparison to
the impact on time and money that an accident will have on you, or
others. As a safe, courteous driver, you owe it to yourself and your
fellow drivers! Thanks for reading, buckle up and be safe!

FAILURE TO WEAR SEATBELT
A Grove man who didn’t mean to steal a lot
of change from a car wash was arrested for burglary after he was caught at the same car wash
-- probably “not trying to steal” anything?
A Jay police officer was on patrol February 7
when he saw a vehicle parked at a carwash on
Highway 59 and 10. According to the affidavit,
the officer realized the vehicle fit the description of a car believed to have been involved in a
burglary at the same car wash in January.
The officer pulled into the car wash and made
contact with a woman and 38-year-old Clifton Dale Prigmore.
Police later went to the couple’s residence in the 400 block of Center Street in Grove.
The woman told police she and Prigmore went to the car wash on
January 24 to clean out her car. She said Prigmore got out and started walking around, and the next thing she knew, “he was getting in
the car and putting a big silver bucket in the trunk of her car.”
She told them she and Prigmore had split up, and he was living in
Marshall.
When police made contact with Prigmore, he told them he didn’t
mean to break into the car wash. He said when he and his girlfriend
drove up to the car wash, he noticed that the deadbolt on the back
door was loose. He said he then pried the deadbolt off, went inside
and took coins from the dollar machine. He said he put them in a
bucket and left. He said he took approximately $630 from the machine.
Prigmore added that when an officer found them at the car wash
earlier that morning, he and his girlfriend were planning to break
into the business again, but the officer scared them away.
Prigmore was arrested and taken to jail.
Prigmore is being charged with burglary in the second degree. He
was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on March 12, 2015.

An expired tag led to the arrest of Nowata man Jared Wade Ketcherside, 37, after police found drugs and paraphernalia in his possession.
A Nowata deputy was traveling south on Pecan Street on February
10 when he saw a maroon truck at approximately 2:20 p.m. According to the affidavit, the officer had seen the truck earlier that day, and
he knew that it had an expired tag. He attempted to catch up to the
truck and he briefly lost it, but he found it traveling “at a high rate of
speed” back down Pecan Street.
The truck finally came to a stop in the alley between Pecan Street
and Pine Street.
The officer saw the driver and passenger, identified as Ketcherside,
walking outside the truck. He placed them both in hand restraints.
He then retrieved his K9 and walked it around the outside of the truck. The dog alerted on
the vehicle.
While searching the truck, the officer found a brown coat on the passenger’s side. Inside the
coat was a white IPhone and a glass smoking device containing a burnt white reside. Ketcherside said the phone was his wife’s, but someone had stolen it.
Behind the seat where Ketcherside had been sitting, the officer found a small baggy containing a crystal-like substance, which later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Ketcherside was arrested and transported to jail. He is being charged with possession of
a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was
released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 23, 2015.

An Okmulgee man was taken into custody after he
brandished a knife and threatened customers at a local restaurant.
Christopher Harjo, 26, was booked in the county
jail Feb. 17 on complaints of Assault with a Dangerous
Weapon, Public Intoxication and Resisting Arrest.
According to reports, officers were dispatched
around 10 a.m. that day to Deb's Filling Station, located at 7th and Wood Drive in Okmulgee, to a disturbance involving a man with a knife. While officers
were in route, dispatch alerted to a customer there with a concealed carry license.
When officers arrived, they noticed a man leaving the Deb’s. Witnesses identified
him as the man who brandished the knife.
An officer confronted the man, later identified as Harjo, but he refused to follow commands to lie on the ground. The officer zapped Harjo with his Taser and
he, with the help of other officers, were able to take Harjo into custody.
Witnesses said Harjo, who was intoxicated, had confronted other customers
with a knife. One of the customers, who happened to be a concealed carry license
holder, pulled a handgun. After a brief argument, Harjo put away the knife and
exited the restaurant.
According to online court records, no charges have yet been filed.

Porter woman Brandy Ann Presley, 31,
was arrested February 11 after trying to get
a 5-finger discount with drugs in her big
pink purse.
Coweta police were dispatched to
Walmart shortly after 2 p.m. due to a shoplifting that had just occurred. Dispatch advised that the suspect was wearing a pink
jacket and had blue in her hair; she was
also now in a drainage ditch by McDonald’s, according to the affidavit.
When an officer arrived, he found Presley in the ditch. He asked her to step out
and get in his patrol car so they could go back to Walmart and see
what was going on.
According to the affidavit, she jumped into the officer’s car with her
“large pink purse” and told the officer she had run because she was
scared, but she didn’t take anything.
At Walmart, the officer spoke with employees who told him they
saw Presley and her friend in the makeup aisle. One employee said
the women had makeup in their hands and as they walked from aisle
to aisle, the makeup “slowly disappeared.”
She alerted another employee, who found the women walking
around the store with makeup in their hands. He said when they saw
him, they tried to run out the door. He approached them, and he said
Presley kicked him in the knee “while aiming for [his] crotch.”
Presley was arrested and taken to jail.
During booking, the officer found various items, including clear
plastic baggies and five cut pieces of straw containing a small amount
of a white crystalline substance. The substance field-tested positive
for cocaine.
Presley is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, larceny
of merchandise from retailer and assault and battery. Her bond was
set at $10,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on February
19, 2015.

An intoxicated Afton man tried to hide his expired
tag by folding over the metal. It didn’t work -- but ya
gotta give him points for credit though!
On February 10, an Ottawa County deputy was on
patrol at the intersection of Highway 69 and South
Monroe in Afton when he saw a red SUV shortly after
6 p.m. According to the police report, the officer knew
the vehicle had an expired tag, so he activated his
emergency lights and stopped the vehicle. He asked
dispatch to check the license plate number, because
he couldn’t see the year decal because the metal plate
was bent over.
Dispatch advised the tag had expired in May 2013.
The driver, 60-year-old Carl Walter Deacon, told the officer he didn’t have a
driver’s license or insurance. Dispatch advised the man’s license was revoked.
The deputy asked the man to step out of his vehicle.
When Deacon exited the SUV, he was unsteady on his feet and had to lean
against the vehicle for balance. The deputy asked him how much he had had
to drink. Deacon responded, “I have only had a couple down at Jimmy’s house.
Come on, I am just going home. I am not hurting anyone.”
It appeared Deacon had more than a couple due to his slurred speech and
bloodshot watery eyes. He also smelled strongly of alcohol.
When the deputy told him his tag was expired by two years, he said, “I know.
That is why I bent the plate to hide the decal.”
Deacon then asked the deputy if he had been waiting for him.
The deputy said he had received a few complaints about his driving and was
asked to speak to him. Deacon got upset and started yelling and cussing. He told
the deputy he knew who reported him, and he was going to fix it.
The deputy then placed the man in handcuffs.
Deacon is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence
of alcohol, driving with revoked license, failure to pay taxes due to state and failure to maintain security. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to
appear in court on March 30, 2015.
