MOM’S GUILT
A Park Hill mom who was accused of faking her
child’s illness for money was found guilty by federal
jurors on November 17.
According to reports, Kasie Keys was originally
charged with eight counts. Those counts included
six counts of child abuse and two counts of child
neglect.
A doctor with the case asserted that Keys most
likely suffers from Munchhausen by proxy syndrome, which is a serious mental illness. It can be
characterized by a desire for material items and
attention.
Keys allegedly faked her son’s illness through
years of child abuse. She then collected money
from fundraisers.
The trial lasted for approximately six days. After jurors reached a verdict,
the court declared a mistrial for some of the counts, including three counts of
child abuse and one count of child neglect.
The counts dismissed had claimed that the woman made up a story that
her son was terminally ill in an attempt to get hospice care for the child. Another count said that Keys caused harm to the child through a “do not resuscitate order.” Another count stated that the woman delayed removing Total
Parenteral Nutrition from the boy. The last count in the mistrial said Keys did
not provide proper maintenance for the TPN.
Keys was found guilty for refusing hospital care for her son. She was also
found guilty of threatening to harm his health, welfare, and safety.
The woman was arrested in August 2019 for child abuse. Medical professionals had noticed that the child became healthier when his mother wasn’t
caring for him.
The child was healthy when he was born. After suffering continued illness,
he was hospitalized.
When the boy was removed from his mother and his father gained full custody, he no longer needed to use a feeding tube or a wheelchair. The victim
was able to eat solid foods and became active for a child of his age.

AROUND THE STATE
Armstrong won’t be able to use the “Get out
of Jail Free” card for this one.
On November 26, around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired at a
home near 4th Pl. and 91st E. Ave. after a
family game night turned violent.
The caller said John Armstrong chased
them down the street with a gun and fired a
shot at the caller and her father. Officers arrived and took Armstrong into custody.
The investigation revealed that the family
was drinking alcohol and playing Monopoly
when a fight broke out between John Armstrong and his stepfather. After knocking over
the Monopoly board and turning over furniture, another family member told
Armstrong and his stepfather to take the fight outside.
During the fight outside, Armstrong suffered a cut to his head, then pulled
out a pistol and chased his stepfather and stepsister down the street at gunpoint. Armstrong admitted to firing one round.
Officers found Monopoly money and game pieces scattered around the
living room. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot from the street. Officers
believe Armstrong hid the pistol before they arrived, and the gun was not
located.
He was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation
(OSBI) is investigating a shooting that occurred
last night in Watts, Oklahoma. The Adair County
Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI assistance after
the 64-year-old victim called 9-1-1 just after 9 p.m.
to report the shooting. The victim was shot at multiple times in front of his home on E. 610 Road in
Watts. The victim is currently being treated at an
Arkansas hospital.
If anyone saw anything suspicious last night, please contact the OSBI at
(800) 522-8017 or email [email protected].
OSBI INVESTIGATING SHOOTING IN WATTS
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

FRIEND IN NEED
A 28-year-old Adair County man told police that he didn’t stop his vehicle for officers
because his passenger had warrants for his
arrest.
According to reports, a Choctaw Nation
Tribal officer was dispatched to the Choctaw
Casino in McAlester to investigate reports
that people were using narcotics in the parking lot. A man was seen smoking a white
substance out of a piece of tin foil.
Security guards tried to stop the individuals
suspected of drug use, but the driver, later
identified as Ty Miller, drove away.
The officer tried to stop Miller’s truck. Miller
drove north on the service road and continued to Hardy Springs Road before going south on U.S. Highway 69.
Miller traveled on the highway until he reached Savanna. He turned around
and headed north, then turned onto Frink Road.
The pursuit continued onto State Highway 63.
Miller turned into a driveway near the Bache Road intersection and continued into a pasture. At some point, Miller’s truck became stuck in some trees.
He and his passenger were immediately arrested.
Miller told officers that he didn’t want to run from them, but his passenger
said he had an outstanding warrant, and he was trying to help him get away.
When officers searched the man’s vehicle, they found three smoking devices with a white powder residue.
Miller is being charged with eluding a police officer. His bond was set at
$5,000.

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty MUSKOGEE COUNTY 13 | JANUARY 2023
FEDERAL JURY CONVICTS MUSKOGEE RESIDENT OF
MALICIOUSLY BURNING PORTER DOLLAR GENERAL STORE
Daniel Lewis Moon, age 25, of Muskogee,
Oklahoma, was found guilty by a federal jury
of Arson.
The jury trial began with testimony on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, and concluded on
Wednesday, November 9, 2022, with the
guilty verdict.
During the trial, the United States presented evidence that on March 28, 2020, Moon,
a disgruntled employee of the Dollar General
store in Porter, Oklahoma, maliciously set a
fire inside the store. The fire caused extensive
damage to the building and its contents. The
store’s surveillance video revealed the Defendant was the only person in the area of the
store where the fire began. The video also disproved the Defendant’s claim to
investigators he was in another part of the store at the time the fire was set.
The guilty verdict was the result of an investigation by the Wagoner Country
Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma
prosecuted the case because the property damaged in this case belonged to
a business engaged in activity involving interstate commerce and the crime
occurred in Wagoner County, within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The Honorable Charles B. Goodwin, U.S. District Judge in the United States
District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, sitting in Oklahoma City,
presided over the trial and ordered the completion of a presentence report.
Sentencing will be scheduled following completion of the report.

BEWARE OF CYBER CRIME!
With new tablets, gaming consoles, smartphones, and other electronic
devices being purchased for you or the children in your home, it’s essential to be aware of the risks involved with children using electronics with
internet access.
With a variety of new social media applications, online forums, and chat
rooms increasingly being used by young people, the risk of children and
teenagers being contacted by online predators continues to rise. Young
people may participate in in-game chat conversations or other online conversations with people they believe to be their peers. However, child predators often use these forums to masquerade as young people. Although
these conversations may start innocently, grooming can be a gradual process that increases in severity until sexually explicit requests are sent to
the unsuspecting child.
If you have children in your home or under your supervision, it is important to be aware of their online activity and any changes in their behavior.
It can also be helpful to have conversations with children regarding online
safety and protecting their privacy. Letting children in your care know that
they can always talk to you regarding concerning interactions can also be
a key step in prevention, as many predators warn potential victims to stay
silent due to a fear of not being believed.
The OSBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit works diligently
to protect Oklahoma’s children, but we never want to see your name or
the name of your loved one come across our desk. To help us protect your
children, you can learn more about the warning signs of online grooming
and how to discuss online safety with children you love at this link from InternetMatters.org: https://www.internetmatters.org/.../protect-your-child/.
You can learn more about the National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children’s NetSmartz program, which teaches children age-appropriate
online safety at...
