FIRESTARTERS
Three males were arrested by Tahlequah Fire
Department investigators after they allegedly
started over 20 fires and drained fire hydrants in
three counties.
According to reports, Cherokee County man
Jacob Mills, 24, Adair County man Sebastian Ritter, 21, and a 17-year-old boy were locked up for
the fires and draining the fire hydrants. Their actions caused property damage and caused communities to experience a significant loss of water.
The suspects allegedly admitted to investigators that they started five structure fires and some
grass fires in Cherokee County and Adair County.
The trio also said that they drained fire hydrants
in Cherokee County, Adair County, and Sequoyah
County.
Investigators identified the three while they
were looking into two structure fires in eastern
Cherokee County that occurred on April 21. As
firefighters responded to those fires, they received
reports that there was another structure fire in the
same area. At the second fire, firefighters saw some suspicious people, who
happened to be the suspects.
Ritter is being charged with two counts of arson in the second degree and
two counts of breaking and entering with unlawful intent. His bond was set at
$100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 21, 2024.
Formal charges, bond information, and court date were unavailable for Mills
and the 17-year-old suspect at the time of publication.

DRUG DEALING FOR DUMMIES:
CHAPTER 2
In This Chapter You Will Learn:
• Rule Number One: Don’t Be A Drug Dealer
• Rule Number Two: No Matter What, Don’t Be A Drug Dealer
• Rule Number Three: If You Are Gonna Transport Drugs Don’t Do Stupid &#!t!!
• Rule Number Four: K-9’s Can Smell Your Dope
To truly understand the importance of the four basic rules listed above, let’s look at what happened last year
to Anthony Riposta and Aaron Esposito, who not only forgot basic rule number one, but apparently didn’t follow
any of the basic rules and as such, found themselves in jail with the other drug dealers that couldn’t follow the
rules either!!
Not only did they forget the importance of not being a scumbag drug dealer, but they also forgot that if you are
going to be a drug dealer, you better not do dumb stuff like making an illegal turn. As is often the case when you
violate these simple, but yet important rules, the Deputies usually show up, a big giant dog sniffs your vehicle, and
then you get cuffed and stuffed in the back of a patrol car as we seize your illegal drugs!!
In yet another classic example of what happens when you ignore the advice provided in “Drug Dealing For Dummies”, a deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by Riposta and made contact with him and his little friend Esposito.
The deputy then gets a little help from his friends, another deputy and his K-9 deputy partner, who alerts on the
vehicle, and then Riposta and Esposito are soon on their way to jail!!
Located during a search of the vehicle on the dash were three orange pills that were subsequently determined
to be Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine. Also located on the dash was a single broken white pill that field-tested
positive for cocaine, and 35 additional orange pills that were determined to be Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine.
The pills were contained in a green prescription bottle with the prescribed persons’ name ripped off. The pill bottle
was located in the center console of Riposta’s vehicle, next to two prescription pill bottles with Riposta’s name on
them.
As a result of the vehicle search, Riposta was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled
Substance and given a free ride to jail, where he got some nice, slightly used shower slides and a gift certificate for
a Honey Bun from the inmate commissary!!
Oh and his little friend Esposito…yeah he took the ride too as a lawful search of his person produced four
baggies that were hidden in his underwear that contained a clear crystal substance which field-tested positive
for methamphetamine and weighed a total of 13.7 grams. He also had two baggies containing a white powdery
substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl and weighed a total of 8.9 grams. Additionally, he had three orange
pills that were identified as Buprenorphine/
Naloxone, and five purple pills that were
identified as Alprazolam/Xanax that were
also hidden in his underpants as well!!
Esposito was subsequently placed under arrest for Trafficking in Methamphetamine and two counts of Possession of a
Controlled Substance Without Prescription.
Esposito also got a luxurious package at the
jail when he arrived, that included shower
slides, tailored striped suit, and a thorough
search by our very accommodating staff
since he likes to hide stuff in his undies!!

12 | JUNE 2024 Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty SEQUOYAH COUNTY
COLD CASE INVESTIGATION
CONTINUES
On the afternoon of Monday November 29, 2021,
while grading a rural Cherokee County dirt road, Cherokee County District 1 employees discovered the body
of a deceased male lying down an embankment below
the roadway and notified the Cherokee County Sheriff’s
Office.
CCSO investigators responded to the area. It appeared the victim had been pushed or thrown off the
roadway down the embankment. The victim came to rest on its right side with its back
against a tree. The victim had been partially concealed in two black trash bags and his
wrists were bound together. The victim was clothed in black ankle socks with white images printed on them, greyish blue sweatpants over black shorts with a nylon drawstring
and a red and black fleece styled zippered jacket. The victim was dark skinned with black
hair and his hair appeared to be cut very close to the skin on the sides and longer than
shoulder length in the back.
An investigator with the Tulsa office of the Oklahoma Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene. The ME investigator estimated the victim was placed in the scene during
the late evening hours of Saturday November 27, 2021.
No items of identification such as a wallet, driver’s license or Social Security card were
found with the body. The victim had a tattoo on his right forearm that consisted of five
letters, A Y I A J.
With the help of the tattoo on the victim’s right forearm, the victim was identified as MIGUEL JOSUE ORTEGA, a 27-year-old resident of Decatur, Arkansas. ORTEGA’s cause
and manner of death was determined to be homicide by gunshot.
If you have any information on this homicide, please give me a call at 918-456-2583.

14 | JUNE 2024 ADAIR COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
GROWING OLD IN
PRISON
A Stilwell resident was sentenced to 35 years
for multiple counts of aggravated sexual abuse.
Daniel Wayne Bayless, 27, of Stilwell, was sentenced to 420 months for each of four counts of
Aggravated Sexual Abuse in Indian Country. The
terms of imprisonment will be served concurrently. Bayless will also be required to register as a
sex offender.
The charges arose from investigations by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office and
the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
On July 18, 2023, Bayless was found guilty of the charges by a federal
jury. During the trial, the United States presented evidence that in 2020 Bayless
sexually assaulted a minor victim under the age of 12 on multiple occasions. The
Government also presented evidence Bayless victimized another child ten years
prior. The crimes occurred in Adair County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation of Oklahoma, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief U.S. District Judge in the United States
District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing. Bayless will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to
a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable
sentence of incarceration.

INAPPROPRIATE
MATERIAL
A teacher at Muskogee High School is in trouble
after he allegedly showed obscene material to a
16-year-old.
53-year-old Robert E. Stevenson II is also the head
coach for the boys tennis club.
According to reports, Stevenson showed some
pictures of naked women to a high school student
sometime between January 1 and January 12. The
obscene pictures were reportedly of women that Stevenson was dating.
Stevenson also allegedly put his hands on the student’s shoulders. This of course
made the victim even more uncomfortable.
Stevenson was placed under arrest - he is not allowed to contact the student or
contact anyone under the age of 18. He also can’t go on school grounds or attend
any school events.
Stevenson is being charged with material/performance harmful to a minor. His bond
was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 28, 2024.

A 911 CALL
18 | JUNE 2024 MUSKOGEE COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

DRUG DEALING FOR DUMMIES:
CHAPTER 3
In This Chapter You Will Learn:
• Rule Number One: Don’t Be A Drug Dealer
• Rule Number Two: No Matter What, Don’t Be A Drug Dealer
• Rule Number Three: Don’t Fall Asleep With Your Hypodermic Needle In Your Lap
• Rule Number Four: Don’t Be A Criminal
To truly understand the importance of the four basic rules listed above, let’s follow
along with what happened last month to Megan Kachel, who could have easily avoided
all of this, but instead found herself in jail with everyone else who hasn’t read “Drug Dealing For Dummies”!!
Now this incident unfolds as FTO Darien Fedro was responding to the Kangaroo Gas
Station in Florida regarding a person sleeping in their car. When he located the vehicle,
he saw Megan Kachel asleep in the driver seat with the vehicle running and a loaded
syringe in her lap!! After Kachel was awakened from her slumber, she stepped out of the
vehicle and agreed to talk to a deputy whom she admitted to that the syringe in her lap
contained heroin!!
From there, a search of the vehicle revealed a bag on the front passenger seat which
was partially opened with another syringe sticking out. Inside the bag were multiple bags
that contained a substance that field tested positive for Fentanyl, ultimately weighing 2.9
grams and another bag containing approximately 1.5 grams of a crystal like substance
that field tested positive for meth!! And if that wasn’t enough, within one of the bags of
drugs were 3.5 pills which were identified as Alprazolam!!
Since Kachel didn’t follow Rules 1-3, it ultimately led her to Rule 4, so she was given
a free ride to jail on an $8,000 bond for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of
Fentanyl, Possession of Alprazolam and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
As a courtesy, in the
future, it’s highly recommended keeping up with
the various chapters of
“Drug Dealing For Dummies” and especially follow Rule One from today’s
chapter, unless you want
to make a reservation for
yourself at the jail!!
