A Verdigris man is facing
first-degree murder charges
after he allegedly shot and
killed his wife.
William Lethers, 29, was
charged with murder in the
first degree, according to the
OSBI.
According to OSBI, late on
Feb. 27, a 911 call was place to
the Verdigris Police Department reporting a disturbance
at 9256 E. Mulberry Lane. As
officers were responding to
that call, dispatchers were alerted to a shooting that had occurred at that residence. Once officers arrived, they found
William Leathers inside the home with blood over his face,
hands, and clothing.
Officers then found his wife, Susan Leathers, 32, inside a
bedroom with a gunshot wound to the face. She was flown
to St. John Hospital in Tulsa where she died.
Verdigris police officers located a handgun inside the
bedroom where the victim was found. Officers secured the
weapon and arrested William Leathers for felon in possession of a firearm. OSBI agents interviewed Leathers about
the shooting. He admitted to firing the weapon earlier in
the evening and placing it in his pocket. He stated that later in the evening he pulled out the gun and began playing
with it and admitted to being the person who shot his wife.

Brandon Pierson was charged March
6 with murder in the first degree- deliberate intent, in Cherokee County District Court.
According to reports, police first arrived on scene in what was described
to them as a home invasion, but later
learned the victim, Steven Hummingbird, had not forced his way into the
home. He allegedly walked into the
home and took a laptop that he felt was owed to him. When Hummingbird walked out of the house with the laptop, Pierson allegedly
shot him once in the back of the head and twice in the back.
Hummingbird was flown to a Tulsa hospital where he later died.
Pierson was denied bond.

Overnight on March 3, the Sallisaw Police Department requested OSBI agents assist with a homicide case.
Just before midnight, officers were dispatched to a call of a
woman deceased in her car in the area of 800 Ruth Street. Officers found Karen Gregg, 56, dead inside her vehicle with what
appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.
A witness driving by the area saw a man standing outside the
vehicle and then heard a loud pop the witness believed was a
gunshot. That witness was able to give officers a description of
the man.
Agents and officers recovered several items of evidence at the
crime scene which linked back to Gregg’s son, Jessie Mosby,
35, as did the eyewitness description. Investigators located
Mosby at the home he shared with his mother for the past several months.
Evidence located in the room where he was found relate back to the murder weapon. The
possible murder weapon was found that morning in a yard on Druery Lane.
Mosby was arrested for the first degree murder of his mother and booked into the Sequoyah County jail.

On March 6, 1969, the first woman placed on the FBI's
Most Wanted list goes before an Oklahoma City judge after
her true identity is discovered a day earlier by OSBI fingerprint specialists.
Ruth Eisemann-Schier was wanted for her role in the kidnapping of Barbara Mackle from an Atlanta, GA, motel December 17, 1968.
Schier was using an assumed name when picked up at
a Norman drive-in restaurant several months later where
she worked as a car hop. Schier was living under the name
Donna Willis when she applied for a job at the Central State
Hospital in Norman. As stated in an article printed by The
Daily Oklahoman,
“As a routine procedure, she was fingerprinted and her fingerprints were sent to the crime bureau for a check against
criminal records. They were received Tuesday night. Mrs.
Jean Price, a fingerprint technician at the crime bureau two years, noticed Wednesday morning that the prints matched those of Ruth Eisemann-Schier.”
FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover sent a letter of appreciation to the OSBI applauding the efficient work and cooperation with the FBI by OSBI Bureau Chief Carl Tyler; Chief Agent Tom
Puckett; Paul Boyd, head of the identification division; and Mrs. Jean Price.

A Porter woman found herself inside a jail cell after she led
troopers on a high-speed chase in Muskogee County.
Carrie Lynn Sowers, 30, was charged Feb. 25 with endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude, DUI, TOC,
poss of CDS, and DUS, in Muskogee County District Court.
According to court records, at around 5 pm on Feb. 21, an
OHP trooper observed a four-door tan car traveling westbound on Taft Road near State Highway 72 at a high rate
of speed. The trooper attempted to pull over vehicle, but the
driver, later identified as Sowers, wasn’t having any of that.
Sowers accelerated to speeds reaching 98 mph, and in the
process, crossed over the center line several times before she crashed into an embankment at the intersection of SH 72 and Taft Road. The vehicle then finally came
to a stop in a hay meadow.
The trooper removed Sowers from the vehicle and placed her under arrest.
During an inventory of Sower’s car, the trooper found an open bottle of Kentucky
Deluxe and a baggie containing Xanex pills.
Bond for Sowers was set at $15,000 and she was ordered to appear in court
March 23 at 9 am.

PUBLIC DRUNK DUI KIDNAPPING/ DOMESTIC A&B
IN PRESENCE OF MINOR
An Alva man with a pending DUI
case was arrested for -surprise- another DUI after he rammed into a
police car and tried to run away from
officers on February 23.
According to the police report, a
Sallisaw officer was on patrol when
he noticed a lot of smoke with a blue
tint coming from Chickasaw Ave. at
approximately 10:45 p.m. He followed the smoke and found a vehicle
that had run off the road at the intersection of Madison and Chickasaw.
He turned on his emergency lights
and approached the vehicle.
The suspect driver, 27-yearold Douglas Martin Gillenwater, put the vehicle into reverse and
slammed into the officer’s patrol vehicle. He then attempted to drive
away, but as he turned into an open lot, he hit a concrete slab and
got stuck.
When the officer approached the car, Gillenwater was nowhere to
be found.
The officer conducted an inventory of the vehicle and found
“many” open aluminum beer bottles.
Police eventually located Gillenwater in the 300 block of Adams.
He had red, watery bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
When an officer went to arrest the man, Gillenwater pulled away
and resisted, but he was eventually taken into custody and transported to jail.
Gillenwater is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while
under the influence of alcohol, driving with license canceled/suspended/revoked, leaving scene of accident involving damage, transporting opened container of beer, eluding/attempting to elude
police officer and resisting an officer. He is scheduled to appear in
court on March 11, 2015.

A Miami couple was arrested February 28
for allegedly stealing items from Walmart.
When police found them, the woman was
still shopping, but the man was hiding in a
dumpster behind Arby’s.
At 2:38 p.m., Grove police were dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting incident. They were advised that a male suspect, Kevin Keith Slankard, 37, had fled the
store and was seen running toward a nearby
restaurant.
Police were unable to immediately locate
the man, but employees said a woman who
had been with the man was still shopping.
An officer waited outside, and 40-yearold Christy Jean Burrow came walking out,
with a cart full of large boxes. Walmart employees stopped the woman. She left her
cart and started walking away. The officer
stopped her, and she told him she was trying to find her husband so he could pay for
the stuff in her shopping cart.
The officer placed her under arrest.
A woman pulled into the parking lot and
told the officer she saw a man behind Arby’s. Police found Slankard
hiding in a dumpster.
Slankard told police he didn’t have any of the stolen property with
him, because he had left it at Walmart.
Walmart employees gave police receipts totaling nearly $1,000 for
the items stolen by Burrow and Slankard.
Slankard is being charged with conspiracy to commit a felony. He
was released on a $3,000 bond.
Burrow is being charged with grand larceny and conspiracy to
commit a felony. She was released on a $2,000 bond.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on March 16, 2015.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Nowata man Jeremiah Shayne Grady, 24, was arrested
for suspicion of stealing items from a church and daycare
on February 20.
A Nowata police officer saw Grady walking on Turner
Lane at approximately 3:15 p.m. According to the affidavit,
he noticed Grady was wearing clothes from a surveillance
video of a church burglary that occurred on February 11. The
man also looked like the subject in the video.
The officer made contact with Grady and asked him to go
to the police department. He told Grady that he saw him
in a surveillance video burglarizing a church. Grady denied
breaking into the church.
The officer asked him where he had stayed the night before. Grady said he stayed at his “baby momma’s.”
The officer went to the residence and asked if he could look for stolen items. He found
items stolen from the church, as well as a local daycare center that had been burglarized that
morning.
Some of the items included keys, a credit card and notary seals belonging to the church,
and children’s painting supplies, a machine to cut paper into shapes, and cleaning supplies
from the daycare.
Grady admitted to burglarizing the daycare.
Grady still denied stealing stuff from the church, but he said he bought items that had
come from the burglary.
Grady is being charged with two counts of burglary in the second degree and knowingly
concealing stolen property. His bond was set at $35,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on March 11, 2015.

When a good Samaritan turned
in a lost wallet to Vinita police, he
probably didn’t think it would lead
to the arrest of the owner. He probably didn’t think there was meth in
the wallet either.
On February 18, a man turned in
a wallet he found in the parking lot
of a local bank to police. An officer
looked through the wallet in an attempt to locate the owner. In the
front pocket of the wallet, he found
a folded up $1 bill.
According to the affidavit, the officer observed that the way the bill
was folded was indicative of drug
use. His suspicions were correct -- when he opened the $1 bill, he
found a white powdery substance. The substance field tested positive for meth.
The officer located the suspect, 23-year-old Melissa Alice Davis,
walking north from the bank where the wallet was located. He asked
her if she lost her wallet. She said yes and was able to describe the
wallet and its contents to the officer. She agreed to go to the police
department and once they were there, the officer asked her about
the substance on the folded up $1 bill. Davis said it wasn’t hers.
The officer asked her why someone would place something of value in her wallet -- she didn’t have an answer. The officer then asked
her if a drug test would come back negative for drugs.
She said no and admitted to using meth.
During this time, dispatch advised Davis had a warrant out of
Missouri.
Davis is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous
substance. Her bond was set at $10,000, and she is scheduled to
appear in court on March 13, 2015.

Wagoner man Kenneth Jordan
Lamb, 22, and Meghan Nichole Bence,
22, had one heck of a night on February 21.
According to a police report, they
played pool with a man at a local bar,
stole pit bull puppies from his home
and drunkenly crashed into a brick
mailbox in the 1200 block of SE First
Street in Wagoner.
Wagoner police responded to the vehicle accident around 3:40 a.m. When
they arrived, they placed Lamb and
Bence under arrest.
Bence was behind the wheel when
police arrived, but the caller said there was a male behind the vehicle
when it hit her mailbox. There were two pit bull puppies in their car.
When police took the couple to jail, a man came to the police department and said someone had stolen some of his puppies. He positively identified the dogs found in the couple’s vehicle with pictures
on his cellphone.
The man said he had taken one of his puppies to a bar to try and
sell it. He met Bence and Lamb while at the bar, and the three played
pool together. He said Lamb told him he knew where he lived, because he saw his truck parked there all of the time. The man said
when he got home from the bar, his dogs were gone.
Bence is being charged with burglary in the second degree, knowingly concealing stolen property, actual physical control of vehicle
under the influence and attempting to leave scene of accident involving damage. She was released on a $10,300 bond.
Lamb is being charged with burglary in the second degree, knowingly concealing stolen property, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence and attempting to leave scene of accident involving
damage. He was released on a $12,500 bond.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2015.

After Miami man Shane Allen Beehler, 39, allegedly broke into a home and attacked its residents
on February 27, he led police on a chase through
Ottawa County on icy roads.
An Ottawa deputy was dispatched to a home in
the 300 block of S. Mulberry in Afton at approximately 8:30 p.m. because Beehler and another
male had entered a home and attacked a man and
woman.
On route to the call, dispatch advised the suspects had left the scene.
Police found Beehler’s vehicle traveling on Highway 69, and an officer attempted to stop the man.
Beehler refused to stop, and he accelerated to approximately 70 mph on “ice and snow-packed
county roads.”
The man eventually came to a stop at County Road South 540 and County
Road East 190. Police ordered him out of his vehicle by gunpoint. He smelled
strongly of alcohol, and there were four opened beer cans in his vehicle.
According to the affidavit, the victims told the officer they were in their home
when the glass back door broken and Beehler and another man entered the
home. They said the men started attacking them and threatened to kill them.
The victims had injuries consistent with their account of the attack.
Beehler is being charged with burglary in the first degree, attempting to elude
police officer, unlawful entry, two counts of assault and battery, threatening
acts of violence, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, no
insurance and transporting an opened container of beer. He was released on a
$7,816 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 15, 2015.
