FORMER HULBERT PUBLIC SCHOOLS TREASURER
PLEADS GUILTY TO THEFT OF FEDERAL FUNDS
Defendant acknowledged loss to Hulbert
Public School District of more than $550,000
Leslie Shannon Mack, 53, of Hulbert, entered a guilty plea to an Information charging
her with Theft or Bribery Concerning Programs Receiving Federal Funds, a crime punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment, a
fine up to $250,000, or both.
The Information alleged that between in
and around June 2019 through on or about
October 26, 2021, Mack, the former Treasurer of the Hulbert Public School, did embezzle,
steal, obtain by fraud, and otherwise without authority knowingly convert to
the use of any person other than the rightful owner and intentionally misapply,
property valued at $5,000 or more, and that was owned by and was under
the care, custody, and control of the Hulbert Public School District.
During the plea hearing, Mack admitted that she issued excess payroll payments to herself, above and beyond her authorized salary, that she issued
payments to another individual, above and beyond that individual’s authorized salary, and that she allowed another individual access to the financial
accounting system. The defendant further acknowledged that these actions
resulted in a loss to the Hulbert Public School District of more than $550,000,
but less than $1,500,00.
The charges arose from an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau
of Investigation and the United States Department of Education – Office of
Inspector General.
Mack was released on a personal recognizance bond pending sentencing.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

HOME IS WHERE YOU PARK IT
Two people were taken into custody after they allegedly stole a camper and tried
to unsuccessfully hide it’s identity.
According to a press release from the
Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan.
19, Wagoner County Deputies Street and
Rogers were dispatched to the 76100
Block of U.S. Highway 69 to investigate
and/or recover a stolen RV Camper.
Upon arrival to the area, the owner of the
property met with deputies and advised
them he had found his stolen camper.
As deputies searched the area, they
observed the trailer had a spray-painted
VIN placard, tampered locks, and the license plate removed. The owner had also
recognized some of his belonging being
used in front of the camper. Deputies
confirmed the RV camper stolen out of
Wagoner County.
The deputies attempted to make contact with anyone inside the camper, but
were unsuccessful. Due to the fact and
circumstances of the incident, deputies
obtained a search warrant from a judge.
Upon execution of the search warrant,
deputies knocked and announced and
A female subject, identified as Jamie Goforth, answered the door.
Upon entry into the camper, deputies
observed a male subject, identified as
Wyatt Fulk, pretending to be asleep in the
camper. Both subjects were immediately taken into custody.
The stolen property was returned to the owner.
Full and Goforth were transported to the Wagoner County Detention
Center and charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of
Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Paraphernalia. Fulk was
additionally charged with Bringing contraband into a jail facility.

8 | MARCH 2023 WAGONER COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
On March 7, Oklahoma voters will have a say on whether or not to legalize
recreational marijuana use with SQ 820 on the ballot. If this question passes,
how do you think this will affect crime in our state? Should driving under the
influence of drugs become a felony? Should those convicted of misdemeanor
marijuana charges in the past be cleared?
Let us hear your opinion!
Misttina B: Colorado crime rate skyrocketed after legalizing marijuana. It should
be treated like any other mind altering substance for DUI.
Rockey L: Yes, it should be felony for driving under the influence of drugs and
for those whom had misdemeanors for marijuana charges should not be cleared
as they knew they were breaking the law at the time they were caught.
April F: Rockey Lee the part that makes it a felony or misdemeanor is the fact
of how many charges you prior or if your caught with a large amount..it is really no
difference than DUI with alcohol
Monkeys P: I don’t think it will affect crime but we need it to pass. We need the
jail space for violent criminals. It should have already become federally legal . It is
not deadly like tobacco and alcohol
Rockey L: Monkeys P Just like cigarettes marijuana can cause emphasima and
copd which can be deadly and alcohol is deadly when consumed and you get
behind the wheel of a car. So where do you draw the line ?
Robbie W: Driving under the influence of anything that visibly impaired you driving should be a felony in the first place. I really don’t think it will effect crime. It might
drop from fewer marijuana arrests. And all you can hope for is that these people
strung out on worse drugs choose pot because it’s legal.
Jerry K: I’m trying to figure this out. Last vote, it was said that this is a needed
medicine for some people. Now some are wanting to use it recreationally. What
other medicine do we do that with??? I don’t remember the last time I took a anti-biotin for a fun Saturday night. Look at what it did to Colorado.
Robbie W: Jerry K alcohol
Jerry K: Alcohol is not used as medicine unless you are talking rubbing alcohol.
Maria M: Man marijuana is not a drug in the first place it is and always has been
a plant. So no it shouldn’t be a felony for that worry about the drunk drivers alcohol is legal and more people get killed by drunk drivers than anything else. Really
have you heard of any wrecks where they smoked??? And yes so many people
have been punished harshly for smoking a plant that is natural. It is time for our
society to open their eyes and see this plant is helping people with their mental
and physical issues.

FARRIS SENTENCED FOR FIVE COUNTS OF
SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR
Michael Allen Farris, 50, of Bunch, was sentenced
to 135 months’ imprisonment for being found guilty
by jury trial of five counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor
in Indian Country. The jury trial began with testimony on Monday, November 29, 2021, and concluded
on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, with the guilty
verdicts.
Evidence at trial showed that on at least five occasions between June 2019 and August 2019, Farris has sex with the minor victim, resulting in the
victim giving birth to a child. Testimony at trial indicated, through the process of DNA analysis, that
Farris was the father of the child.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma prosecuted the case because Farris is a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe and the crimes
occurred in Sequoyah County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation, and within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The case was the result of an investigation by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s
Office, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.
“The Defendant, a 46-year-old man at the time, used his position of trust to
repeatedly molest and abuse his 13-year-old victim. The sentence imposed will
ensure he is held accountable for taking advantage of that trust,” said United
States Attorney Christopher J. Wilson. “No child should ever experience the pain
and suffering the Defendant brought upon the victim in this case.”
“The FBI and our law enforcement partners will do everything in our power to
protect our most vulnerable citizens and get predators like Farris off the street,”
said FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Edward J. Gray. “We will continue to combine resources and investigative efforts to ensure the safety of the
children in our communities.”
Farris was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal to await commitment to a United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable
sentence of incarceration.

March is National Youth Violence
Prevention Month
The National Association of Students
Against Violence Everywhere is a nonprofit
aiming to provide safer environments for
our youth. Its mission is to decrease the
potential for violence in our schools and
communities by promoting meaningful student involvement, education and service
opportunities.
SAVE’s Vision: Schools and communities will be safer and more secure, free of
fear and conducive to learning as a result of
students being actively involved in meaningful violence prevention efforts.
How It Got Started: SAVE was started by students in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1989 after the tragic death of a classmate who was trying to break up a
fight at an off-campus party. A group of students who did not want this death
to be “just another statistic” took action and created a violence prevention
program.
Chapters: SAVE has evolved into a national association with chapters in
elementary, middle and high schools as well as at colleges and community organizations across the country. Today, there are more than 200,000 students
involved nationwide.
Activities: Student members take the lead in planning chapter activities by
using the three SAVE Essential Elements: conducting crime prevention activities, conducting conflict management activities and providing meaningful service through projects in schools and communities. SAVE chapters also plan
safety rallies and safety awareness campaigns, engage in peer mentoring to
younger students, and conduct fun and educational meetings.

MCALISTER SENTENCED TO LIFE
IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER
An Adair County man was sentenced to life in
prison after he pleaded guilty to the 2019 murder
of Randolph England.
Earl McAlister, 55, of Stilwell, was sentenced
to life imprisonment and five years of supervised
release for Murder in Indian Country – Second Degree. The charges arose from an investigation by
the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Adair
County Sheriff’s Office.
McAlister previously entered a guilty plea to an
Information filed in August 2022 alleging that on or
about November 17, 2019, McAlister, a non-Indian, killed Randolph England, an Indian. The investigation revealed that McAlister shot England two
times. After which, McAlister, along with others,
drove to his “compound,” placed the victim’s body
on a burn pile with tires and set him on fire until
nothing was left but bone fragments and teeth.
McAlister then dumped the victim’s remains down
a ravine in a plastic container. Investigators were able to identify the victim by comparing dental records.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma prosecuted
the case because the victim in this case was a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe and the crime occurred in Adair County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee
Nation Reservation and within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
“The life sentence imposed by the Court is fitting punishment for the defendant’s
vicious acts,” said United States Attorney Christopher Wilson. “I am thankful for the
cooperative efforts of local, state, and federal law enforcement in working this case.
Investigating and prosecuting violent crimes like this one will continue to be a priority
for the United States Attorney’s Office.”
“The murder of Randolph England was senseless and horrific, but today’s sentencing ensures the defendant will remain safely away from the public for the rest of his
life,” said FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Edward J. Gray. “The FBI will
continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to investigate the most
serious crimes in Indian Country.”
McAlister will remain in custody pending transportation to a designated United
States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.

A man who shot himself in the face and
ran down Interstate 24 armed with the
handgun was taken to two hospitals last
month, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s supervisor said.
Deviset Patton, 41, of Nashville was
treated by paramedics while transporting
him to Ascension St. Thomas Hospital in
Murfreesboro. He was later taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Detective Sgt. Ty Downing said Patton’s girlfriend was driving on I-24 when they
began arguing about 5:30 pm.
“He shot himself once in the face,” Downing said.
She pulled over and called 911. Sheriff’s deputies, Tennessee Highway Patrol
troopers, Murfreesboro Police and Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue responded.
“As they approached, he took off on foot running down the interstate with a
pistol in his hand,” Downing said. “Deputies led by Sgt. David Alford closed traffic
in both directions because of an armed man running on the freeway.”
Patton refused Alford’s commands to drop the weapon.
The SWAT Team responded. A K9 stopped Patton and SWAT Team deputies
took him into custody.

A convicted sex offender is behind bars again
after he allegedly stole a truck and fled from police
last month.
According to MCSO, on Jan. 26, around 11
a.m., Nathan Graham, 25, of Kansas, Okla., was
arrested by Muskogee County Deputies for the
third time in the month of January. This time Graham was arrested for stealing a truck from inside
Muskogee. Deputies spotted Graham next to the
stolen truck at residence just south of town. Of
course, he ran, but with the help of Muskogee
Police Department and one of their K9s, he was
found a short distance away hiding in a residence.
Graham was booked in for the stolen truck, obstruction and failure to comply with the sex offender registration act.
Formal charges in Muskogee District Court have not been filed as of
press time.
