GAME WARDEN CATCHES
GROUP CATCHING ILLEGALLY
With the Fall Deer Archery season underway, most sportsman
are already hunting or preparing
for the upcoming seasons. Anticipating state game wardens to be
drawn away from traditional fishing
hot spots, four fishermen from Tulsa slipped in on the Scenic Illinois
River and took advantage of the
off-season to illegally net the river.
Late in the evening, right after the OU vs. Texas “Red River Rivalry” football game, the fishermen were apprehended after Cherokee County Game
Warden Brady May observed them gill netting downstream from No Head
Hollow public access.
“After locating them downstream with my binoculars, I immediately identified an illegal gill net strung completely across the mouth of the river
slew”, said Warden May. “I then observed a second net, each with fourinch square monofilament line designed to catch any of the larger fish that
attempt to swim through. They had that section of the river completely
blocked off and their ice chest was already full of both game and nongame fish which included channel catfish, smallmouth bass, sand bass
and rough fish.
“In addition, two of the suspects were throwing a cast net illegally to
catch the smaller river chubs which in some communities are known to be
a delicacy,” said May.
Cast netting in the Upper Illinois River was prohibited several years ago
after state fisheries biologists recommended the closure to help protect
the Stone Roller; a minnow species known to help clean up the river rocks
covered with algae.
With the help from Game Wardens Anthony Clark (Cherokee Co.) and
Cody Youngblood (Adair Co.), a total of twelve misdemeanor wildlife citations were issued totaling $3,600.00 in minimum fines and court costs.
In addition, GRDA Ranger Tanner Hendley issued citations to the group
for possession of glass containers on a scenic river stream. The wildlife
charges filed included fishing without licenses, cast netting in a closed
river stream and illegal taking of both game and non-game fish with use
of a gill net.
All four suspects were released after signing their personal recognizance
to appear back in court on November 7.
“This was an intentional violation of our scenic river resources that traditional sport fishermen from all over come here to enjoy,” said May. “Had I
not been out that evening on patrol, their illegal activities would have gone
unreported!”
Anyone witnessing a violation of Oklahoma’s Fish and Game laws can
contact their local game warden at www.wildlifedepartment.com or report
the violation anonymously by calling Operation Game Thief at (800) 522-

A man wanting to stay sober volunteered to serve part of his friend’s one-month
drunk-driving sentence. The 51-year-old Swede wanted to see if he could pose as
his friend and fool the justice system, but he was discovered two weeks into the
sentence. The man said, “I wanted to go to jail to stop myself from drinking for a few
weeks. My pal didn’t think it would work. He agreed to let me try. I borrowed his ID
card and identified myself as him at the prison.” He has since been charged with perjury and wrongful use of another person’s identity.
A Golden Gate Estates man couldn’t fool anybody when he tried to get his vehicle
registration renewed with a fake license, Collier sheriff’s deputies said. Marcial Montes-Lopez, 29, of the 1100 block of 21st Street Southwest, used a driver’s license
described in an arrest report as “obviously fake because of the cartoonish photo and
vibrant colors,” deputies wrote in an arrest report. He faces a single charge of possessing a counterfeit driver’s license. Montes-Lopez was trying to renew his registration at a Collier County Tax Collector’s office in Golden Gate when employees spotted
the fake ID, deputies said. The license number on the ID was issued to Montes-Lopez
but expired in July 2010, the report said.
A man facing drug trafficking charges made a strong first impression at his court
appearance in Broward County when he showed up wearing a “crack shirt.” The shirt
included instructions for making crack cocaine.
Chilean doctors say a 266 pound man who was shot in the stomach was saved
by his rolls of fat. They say the bullet lodged in the man’s fat and did not damage
any vital organs. A thinner person would have been killed immediately. A hospital
spokesperson in Santiago says the man’s thick layer of fat acted in the same way as
a bulletproof vest, taking the impact of the shot. La Cuarta newspaper reports Omar
Alegria Campos, who’s 33, was driving his bus in the San Bernardo area of Santiago
when an armed man got on and started robbing passengers. Alegria stopped the bus
and switched on his emergency lights to alert the police. He then tried to grab the
man’s weapon. The attacker fired twice. The first bullet smashed the windscreen and
the second lodged in the bus driver’s stomach. Despite the wound, Alegria managed
to throw himself on top of the robber, stopping him from escaping. A passing police
patrol arrested the 29-year-old attacker. They also took Alegria to El Pino Hospital,
where doctors extracted the bullet and sewed up the wound.
Two northern Arizona parents were arrested after photos of their young children
allegedly being abused were posted on Facebook. An anonymous Facebook user
reportedly alerted authorities on Wednesday after seeing two children, an infant and a
toddler, bound with duct tape around their wrists and ankles in photos posted to the
social networking site. In the photos, the 2-year-old and 10-month-old are allegedly
bound with duct tape around their wrists and ankles. Their mouths were also closed
shut with duct tape. Police said one of the children was hung upside down on an
exercise apparatus. Jayla Hamm, who was 17 at the time of the abuse, received 10
days in jail and two years probation. Her boyfriend, Corde Honea, 19, an ex-convict,
was sentenced to three to five years for child abuse and received an additional 12 to
24 months on felony possession of stolen firearms.

Scott T: I think the s.o.b should have his head cut off too, with a dull knife. Our
society coddled the criminals, that’s why there are so many of them.
Jenni C: There are so many criminals because Oklahoma legislators don’t try
to prevent it by adequately funding the schools.
Scott T: I can agree that the schools need more funding but I don’t think that it
would have any effect on the crime rate.
Megan B: Penalty is not what motivates people. They do t anyway and this guy
would have done it anyway.
Scott T: I don’t mean that all crime would stop if our society were tougher on
criminals, but I do believe it would help to some degree. Plus it would make me,
(and a lot of other people) feel better.
Max S: They should speed the process don’t see nothin wrong with getting it
over with put him down been to long already he cut someone’s head off just take
em middle of downtown Tulsa n hang him get it done with
Nicholas P: Someone should bust into his cell when he isn’t expecting it and
cut his head off. Then justice would be served #eyeforaneye
Tommy N Cyndy M: The sad thing is he will live in prison at our cost for 10 to
20 yrs before he is put to his death. The people he killed didn’t get to live another
10 to 20 yrs. Prayers for the victims family.
Geoff W: If you don’t trust the government with the ability to spend tax money
wisely, but you trust it to successfully identify murder culprits with a 100% success
rate, you should reevaluate one or both of those opinions.
Darrell K: yeah this guy was caught literally red handed. there is no doubt
about who lopped off his fellow workers head.
JosephChiane R-D: If I’m not mistaken he admitted to doing it also so there’s
no doubt
Scott T: He admitted to it but tried to use religion, and even mental health as
an excuse.
Donnie B: Didn’t take them long to get rid of Timothy McVeigh so maybe they’ll
put this piece of crap on the express lane to hell
Heather G: The bombing happened in April 1995, he died June 2001, he was
fed and sheltered and had health care some do not until he was finally put to death
Russ J: Justice hasn’t been served yet. Not until they get that needle in his arm.
Marilyn R: Death penalty, what a joke, maybe in 30 years
Rechelle F: He should get put to death sooner than later poor victims I worked
there during this time horrible tragedy
Jason A: A bullet is cheaper and less time waiting for it to happen.
James H: I think it was served. And I believe the jury came back with the correct verdicts.
Brad F: He asked for the death penalty 2 yrs ago the state denied it
Deborah P: HELL YA, ONE INCH AT A TIME, CUT HIS HEAD OFF....THANK
YOU
Fred S: Justice hasn’t been served yet. He’s not dead.
Coll T: It would be served if they put the needle in his arm tomorrow.
David M: Yes...cut his head off...
Cody Y: One less P O S we are paying for.
Scott T: Oh we will be feeding him and providing health care for a while. Several
years likely.
Sue M: Don’t worry, we are going to be paying for his room and board for several years. It’ll take at least 6-8 for him to use up all of his appeals.
Tammy L: Yes. Eye for an eye.
Trevor L: Bring in a guillotine
Scott T: No too painless. Get someone who has little arm strength and give
them a dull machete, so they have to hack at it a couple times.
Trevor L: Haha I was trying to use something that’s barbaric but at the same
time doesn’t put us in the same league as him
Scott T: I see your point, but I’ve always felt that the punishment should fit the
crime. And this crap about lethal injection being bad because it burns a little bit......
nope... don’t care.
Wendy S: Barbaric, eh? Give him the rack...
Scott T: If more of these people were put to death, for murder, there would be
fewer murders, I’d bet.
Deneisa C: The sooner the better
Scott C: Bring back public hanging
Tom H: Pay per view it!!!!
Stan R: Yea he gotta go
Marie W: I think he deserves to die
Dee M: Hang him on the court house lawn
Tony P: the quicker the better
Kelly M: Yes
Michael V: Duh yeah
Dustin H: Yes
Shirley C: yes
JURORS RECOMMEND OKLAHOMA MAN
CONVICTED OF BEHEADING COWORKER
BE SENTENCED TO DEATH
Jurors have suggested that a man convicted of beheading his coworker be put to death for the crime.
Alton Nolen, 33, was convicted of first-degree murder in
late September for beheading his former coworker, Colleen
Hufford, in September 2014 inside Vaughan Foods. He has
already been handed three life sentences plus 130 years
combined on assault charges for stabbing Traci Johnson
and attacking other workers inside the plant.
After nearly three hours of deliberation, the jury reached a verdict and ruled that
Nolen should be sentenced to death.
The decision by the jury is just a recommendation. A judge will formally sentence
Nolen at a later date.

ARMED AND DANGEROUS
Coweta man Billy Lynn Woodruff, 31, is
being charged with assault after he allegedly
beat a woman and fired at two people with a
rife on September 30.
According to the police report, Wagoner
County deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 12000 block of S. 285th E. Avenue in Coweta to investigate a shots fired call.
When they arrived, they met with Woodruff,
who refused to open his front door. He would
only speak to deputies from inside the house.
While on scene, police spoke to two witnesses who said they heard a verbal argument and two gunshots come from Woodruff’s residence.
After about an hour of speaking to Woodruff, he finally let deputies search his home for
victims – no other individuals were found in the residence.
Later that day, two victims contacted police and told them Woodruff had
assaulted them and fired at them with a rifle. The first victim, who identified
herself as Woodruff’s girlfriend, said Woodruff beat her, and stole her purse,
wallet, and prescription meds. When she tried to escape from his residence,
he shot at her head with a rifle. She also said Woodruff shot at the second
victim with the same firearm.
The second victim said while he was with Woodruff, he was afraid for his life
and begged Woodruff not to shoot him. He told police that Woodruff grabbed
the first victim by her throat and knocked her to the floor. Woodruff also shot
at him – the victim said he was hit by wood shrapnel from the porch where
the bullet hit.
Police records show that officers had previously been dispatched to Woodruff’s residence on September 24 and 25 for complaints of domestic violence.
Woodruff is being charged with two counts of assault, battery, or assault
and battery with a dangerous weapon, robbery in the second degree and
threaten to perform act of violence. His bond was set at $200,000.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

CREDITABLE INFO LEADS TO
NARCOTICS ARRESTS
Three people were taken into custody November 1
during a narcotics warrant that turned up drug activity
at a former doctor’s office.
According to a press release from the Poteau Police
Department, at approximately 10 am on that day, the
Poteau Police Department served a narcotics search
warrant at 604 Dewey in the city limits of Poteau. The
search warrant was a product of Poteau Police Department Narcotics Investigators receiving actionable information on drug activity at the location.
A search of the location produced methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and approximately 16,248
prescription pills. The pills were un-prescribed samples
of various types of antidepressants, anti-psychotics,
anti-anxiety, and other mood altering drugs.
The owner of the location, Kenneth W. Foster age
71, was a medical doctor with specialties in psychiatry and general practice. Foster’s Oklahoma medical
license was revoked on March 13, 2008, by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision for
alcohol/substance abuse.
Foster was present at the location during the service of the search warrant
and was transported by ambulance for a pre-existing medical condition that
required treatment. An affidavit for the issuance of an arrest warrant on Foster
will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office.
Two other people present at the location, Antoinette R. Thompson, 42, and
Linda O. Henson, 49, both of Poteau, were arrested on charges of Possession
of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Q: Can I explore treatment centers even if my friend is not willing to go into
treatment? What should I look for in a treatment center?
A: Yes. If you find centers that might appeal to your friend, either by their location or medical approach, it might encourage him or her to enter treatment.
You can call this helpline and get some advice on how to proceed: 1-800-
662-HELP (4357) (This service is supported by the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services.) You can also look for a treatment center online, which
will allow you to search for a treatment center in your area and also give you
information about the kind of addiction or patients it treats.
Treatment approaches must be tailored to address each patient’s drug
abuse patterns and also other medical, psychiatric, and social problems.
Some treatment centers offer outpatient treatment programs, which allow
patients to continue to perform some daily responsibilities. However, many
people do better in inpatient (residential) treatment. An addiction specialist
can advise your friend or loved one about the most promising options.
NIDA’s Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment compiles 30 years of research into a set of general principles and frequently asked questions about
effective treatment. Using these principles, NIDA has developed a booklet
that outlines 5 questions you can ask when looking for a quality treatment
program. You might want to have these materials on hand when you talk to
treatment centers to help you ask the right questions.

TALK ABOUT BIRD BRAIN…
Game Warden Ben Bickerstaff, of
Alfalfa county, received a call of a suspicious person camping well inside
the closed area on the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge. Upon contacting the suspect, Warden Bickerstaff
found two owl talons on the dash of
the vehicle.
Further investigation awarded 18
raptor talons, several loose avian feathers, raptor wings, wood pecker feet
and many other bird parts. Five deer hides and numerous other fur bearing
wildlife parts were also in possession.
In addition to the illegal wildlife parts law enforcement located and seized a
jar of psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana and pipe, and a psychedelic mushroom honey mixture.
After the search two recently discarded raptor carcasses were located on
the refuge near where the suspect camped.
Federal Wildlife Officer Shelby Finney (USFWS) and Lt. Ryan Webster (Oklahoma State Parks) were also on the scene helping process copious amount
of evidence.
On a funny note the suspect had a bag of live tarantulas that were quite a
surprise to the officers searching.
Obviously several state and federal charges are pending.

UNSOLVED CASES:
CARINA SAUNDERS
OSBI reinstated a reward on
October 13, which was the six
year anniversary since remains
of Carina Saunders, 19, were
discovered behind a Bethany grocery store. The Bethany Police Department worked
the case for more than a year
before requesting OSBI investigative assistance. For several years now, OSBI has interviewed dozens of people who
claimed to have information,
served search warrants on locations believed to be involved
in the murder, and dug at several sites searching for evidence. As of yet, that
work has not produced enough evidence to make an arrest. Saunders’ case
is highlighted in the OSBI Cold Case Playing Cards distributed to Department
of Corrections facilities, hoping someone behind bars can provide useful information. OSBI is offering up to a $10,000 reward to the person(s) who provides information that helps substantially progress the case. By state law, that
reward is active for 90 days. Please call 1-800-522-8017 with information or
email a tip to [email protected].

A Cherry Tree man has pled guilty to federal

with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily
harm.
The charge arose from an investigation by
the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, the Adair
County Sherriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau
of Investigation.
The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United
States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee,
accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.

THREE CHARGED IN 2015
KIDNAPPING/MURDER CASE
Three men who were originally charged in the kidnapping of a Muskogee man in 2015 now face more
serious charges.
Thristian Hunter, 24; Mark Monta Logan, 26; and
Benrick Carter Jr., 22, all of Muskogee, were charged
October 12 with murder- first degree and conspiracy, in
Muskogee County District Court.
The trio were arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Robert Guenther, 26, on May 19, 2015, and
were charged with kidnapping and conspiracy shortly thereafter. Hunter and Carter are scheduled for trial
on those charges in January. Logan was found guilty
of the kidnapping charge back in April; the conspiracy
charge was dropped.
Both Logan and Carter are already in jail and Carter
was taken into custody on November 3.

Tips for Parents:
• Adolescence is a scary time, and one in which teenagers are
most at risk for sexual assault. Prepare for the possibility that as
adolescents, they may engage in some risk-taking behavior and
try to minimize that risk by educating them about the danger of
sexual assault by friends, acquaintances, or others. This danger
is enhanced when teenagers are using drugs or alcohol.
• Encourage your teenager to trust her or his instincts and if a
situation makes him or her uneasy, to get out of it.
• Stress to them that they can always talk to you if they have
been hurt or scared (regardless of the circumstances surrounding
the incident).
