Bureau in partnership with AdoptUSKids and Child Welfare Information Gateway
sponsors the initiative each November as a way to focus public attention on the
urgent need for adoptive families for children and youth waiting in foster care for
a permanent family. This year’s focus, “Partnering for Permanency,” builds on the
social media theme from last year. A special web page on Information Gateway’s
website helps child welfare professionals, prospective adoptive parents, and youth
partner for permanency. The website contains resources, stories, and videos on

When police arrived to take Paul Joseph Zeller, 41,
to jail for his multiple warrants, he was ready and waiting.
The Pauls Valley man was in even more trouble after
he tried to stab an officer with a knife.
Pauls Valley police went to the 400 block of W.
Garvin Avenue at approximately 11 a.m. on October 2
to arrest Zeller. According to the affidavit, Zeller had
three outstanding arrest warrants through Garvin
County and one through the city of Pauls Valley.
When officers arrived, Zeller was holding a large
knife, and he said he would die before going to jail.
One of the officers tried talking to the man through the
locked front door. For about an hour, Zeller went back and forth, speaking to the
officer and talking with someone on the phone. He then asked the officer for a
cigarette.
The officer placed one on the front step just outside the door, and police waited
for their chance. When Zeller opened the door to retrieve his smoke, they charged
the front door. Before entering the residence, they saw the man lay the large knife
down.
One of the officers grabbed the man – they then noticed he was holding another
large knife.
Zeller raised his hand in a stabbing position, but thankfully, no one was stabbed.
Zeller did get tased, though. Zeller and the officer who grabbed him both crashed
into a glass table.
Police placed Zeller in handcuffs and took him to jail.
Zeller is being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon. His
bond was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on November
20, 2015.

A noisy Purcell man didn’t do very well convincing an officer he was sober during a traffic
stop on October 11.
Jesus Alberto Gomez, 36, struggled with a trash
can, a seatbelt, and gravity before eventually being placed in cuffs.
A Purcell officer was dispatched to the 1400
block of Whippoorwill Drive shortly after 11 p.m.
to investigate a noise complaint. The reporting
party said she was sick and tired of someone
cranking the bass all the way up in their vehicle.
While they were talking, the officer heard some
bass thumping and saw a green car back out of a nearby driveway.
The driver was identified as Gomez.
The officer asked the man to put the car in park so he could speak to
him. Instead, Gomez put it in drive and slowly pulled forward, taking out a
trashcan. He then decided to get out of his vehicle but he neglected to take
off his seatbelt first.
When Gomez finally figured it out, he got out of his car and started walking to the officer. Well, swaying toward the officer – he couldn’t keep his
balance. He also smelled like alcohol and had red watery eyes.
The officer asked Gomez if he had been drinking. Gomez admitted to
drinking 3-4 beers. He also agreed to sobriety tests.
The sobriety tests didn’t go so well. Gomez couldn’t stand still without
swaying, and he wasn’t able to follow the officer’s commands.
The officer placed the man under arrest and patted him down before
putting him in the patrol car. He felt a baggie in the man’s back pocket.
Gomez told him it was weed.
Sure enough, the officer found a baggy containing a green leafy substance.
Gomez is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and
driving without a driver’s license. He was
released on a $3,756.50 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
November 18, 2015.

This month’s Tips is less of a tip than it is a
serious request for help from you, the motoring
public. I would like to make a personal appeal to each and every reader who
sees this to help us Troopers try to eliminate one of the toughest jobs that we
ever have to do. It is something that everyone who drives can have an impact on.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is tasked with the investigation of motor
vehicle accidents on the public roadways outside the city limits in the State of
Oklahoma. In the course of this, we investigate a huge number of fatalities. For
each fatality victim, it is the duty of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to personally
notify the next of kin. For each life lost, there is a knock on a door somewhere,
where an OHP Trooper has to deliver news that will forever change the lives of
the person or persons on the other side. Sadly, these knocks on the door could
have been prevented by somebody involved in the accident. Sometimes it’s the
person who died whose unsafe or unlawful action caused the accident that took
their life. Often times it is not.
Each and every Trooper you see working the roads every day has had to knock
on that door. I think if you asked, every single one would tell you this is the
worst aspect of our job. Trying to prevent this is one of the reasons we do what
we do. We know if we work hard, we can stop some of these knocks. We also
know the motoring public can help us stop some of these knocks as well. The
following are just a few ways for you to do your part to help.
First and foremost, obey the law. It really doesn’t matter if your personal
opinion of the rules of the road don’t make sense, or shouldn’t apply in certain
situations. Each one of them is designed for us to travel safely on the road. Slow
down, and give your full, undivided attention to the road. Watch out for the
other driver. When you see something happening ahead of you, slow down! “I
was late”, or “I was texting” just doesn’t cut it as responses to a grieving family
when they ask why this happened. Is it something you could live with if it was
your reason for taking a life?
The people on the other side of that knock aren’t the only ones affected by the
experience. We Troopers have all held strangers as the initial horror and shock
of the news takes hold of them. We have all prayed with families we just met,
and asked if we could have done more to prevent it. Each and every day we are
trying to stop The Knock. Now I’m asking you to help us. Thanks for reading,

Late on October 18, Lighthorse Police
requested OSBI investigate an officerinvolved shooting.
A Lighthorse officer pursued two robbery suspects in Marietta when the driver of the suspect vehicle crashed at mile
marker 5 on Interstate 35. The driver
ran from the area as the Lighthorse officer gave chase. When the Lighthorse officer caught the man, the suspect began
assaulting the officer. The Lighthorse
officer shot Anthony Walker, 20, twice.
Other officers arrived, and it took four of
them to arrest Walker.
Walker, of McKinney, Texas, was transported to a Plano, Texas, hospital. The officer was
treated at a local hospital for injuries to his face and released.
OSBI will put together a comprehensive report of the facts in the case and present it to the
district attorney. The district attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
The Marietta Police Department is handling the robbery investigation. The Oklahoma
Highway Patrol is working the traffic accident.

A Madill man and Kingston woman tried to escape from police on
September 30, but they were eventually caught and arrested for eluding.
According to the police report, a Kingston officer was heading east on
Highway 70 when he passed a car headed west shortly after 1 a.m. He
noticed when the car’s brakes lit up, the third brake light was the only
one working. He turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, but
the driver, 39-year-old Steven James Ahtone, wasn’t pulling over.
One of his passengers, Kacy Ann Forguson, 28, probably didn’t want
him to.
Ahtone took off traveling west on Highway 32, reaching speeds of 100
mph and crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic multiple times. Ahtone then turned south onto Highway 70f. He drove for about a mile,
crossing into the oncoming lane and eventually coming to a stop.
Ahtone jumped out of the car and grabbed a gas can out of the trunk. He jumped back into the car,
despite the officer’s orders to get on the ground.
Forguson also jumped out of the backseat with her hands up, but for whatever reason, got back in.
Ahtone tried to start the car, but it wouldn’t seem to budge. He, Forguson and a male passenger then
exited the car.
Ahtone and Forguson took off running, but the other passenger got on the ground.
Police were unable to immediately locate the couple.
The passenger told officers that the suspects took off running because they had warrants out for his
arrest. He said he had been trying to get them to let him out of the car – he was only with them because
he needed to get an alternator for his truck.
Ahtone and Forguson were later placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Ahtone is being charged with endangering others while eluding. His bond was set at $35,000.
Forguson pled guilty to escape from arrest or detention.

A man in Stockholm, Sweden was a bit miffed when the
13-year-old girl he’d been courting didn’t show up for an arranged sex meeting. Having met the girl on a dating website,
this man deposited an advance payment in her bank account
before their “date”. When the teen stood him up, the man
found her home phone number and called her father to demand a refund. You can imagine how that ended.
John Szwalla, a 17-year-old idiot from North Carolina,
entered an internet cafe and demanded money, claiming he
had a gun hidden under his shirt. The “gun” was actually a
banana. The cafe’s owner, along with a customer, restrained
John and called the police. John ate the banana while he
waited for the cops to arrive. Apparently the police joked
about charging the kid with “destroying evidence”.
James Blankenship’s first mistake was to try to break into
his own mother’s house. Young James had a go at climbing through the first floor window, then bolted when he was
caught.
It didn’t help that he conducted the botched raid in broad
daylight, but let’s set that aside for a moment, because this
story gets much dumber. When police found James hiding
in a crawl space near the scene and arrested him, the young
man was stunned. James thought he couldn’t be arrested for
burglary because it wasn’t night-time.

And no, it wasn’t a brand new car. 30-year-old Derrick Michael Wilder was arrested on September 28 after a security camera caught him walking back in to steal an Ipad. According to the police report, a Norman police officer was dispatched to the business in the 800 block of N. Interstate Drive to investigate the incident. The victim, an employee at the car dealership, told the officer Wilder came to the property to get some of his stuff from a repossessed vehicle. The victim said when he made contact with Wilder, he was holding the tablet. Later, Wilder waltzed back into the dealership wearing a different shirt. He knew right where he was headed, too. No one was in the showroom at the time, but Wilder didn’t need help anyway. Surveillance footage captured the man walking right into the victim’s office and taking the Ipad. After attempting to contact the thief, one of Wilder’s relatives brought the stolen item back to the dealership. The Ipad still worked, but unfortunately, the screen was shattered. The victim told the officer he wanted to press charges against the man for stealing the property from his office. The tablet was valued at $750 to $1,000. Wilder is being charged with grand larceny. Earlier on October 9, Carsins arrived on the campus of Edmond North High School and represented himself to school administrative personnel that he was an employee of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Department of Homeland Security and was tasked with patrolling the campus.
