A Maysville man thought he could get
away with using his former roommate’s
name after getting busted for DWI, but his
mug in OK Jailbirds gave his ploy away.
According to probable cause affidavit,
Dylan Ashley, 22, was arrested by an OHP
trooper on August 9 for driving impaired.
Ashley did not have a photo ID on him. But
instead of giving the trooper his real name,
he gave his name as Blake Bergen and Bergen’s birthdate.
How did Ashley know Bergen’s information? Ashley was at one time Bergen’s roommate in Norman.
Ashley was processed into the Garvin County Jail as Bergen.
Lo and behold, a couple of weeks later, September’s edition of OK
Jailbirds is produced and was in stores. Bergen’s mother informed
him that his name was in OK Jailbirds, but with his soon-to-be exbuddy’s photo. He got a copy, and sure enough, Ashley’s goofy mug
shot was in the Garvin County data, but the name under the mug
said Blake Bergen, DWI.
The real Bergen went to the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office immediately to clear his name. Bergen proved his identity and DPS was
notified.
On Sept. 16, Ashley was booked into the Garvin County Jail, again,
on an outstanding Okmulgee County warrant, this time using his
own name. When questioned about the Bergen incident, Ashley admitted he gave the trooper Bergen’s name and birthdate instead of
his own. He said he knew Bergen well, and that he lived with him
and his parents in the past. He added he had intended to pay for the
costs, but didn’t realize the identifiers and latent prints were used by
law enforcement to identify offenders.
Ashley was charged with felony false personation the next day.
The charges of DWI that were under Bergen’s name have been corrected in court records and are now under Ashley’s name. Ashley is
scheduled to appear in court on October 24 at 10 am for his preliminary hearing.

A Marietta man found himself singing the blues in jail after
he assaulted the Marietta Chief of Police in a very usual manner.
Osiel Aldava, 20, was charged Sept. 9 with assault and battery
on a police officer, in Love County District Court.
Court records don’t go into much detail about what led to the
assault, but it did state that on August 30, Aldava, who allegedly
knew Dustin Scott was the Chief of Police for the Marietta Police
Department, “willfully and unlawfully [struck] Officer Dustin
Scott by throwing rocks and hitting Officer Dustin Scott in the
face with the rocks with the intent to injure Dustin Scott…”
Really? How could throwing rocks at the police chief result in any good?
Aldava was arrested and taken to the Love County Jail and booked. He faces a fine of up to
$500 or imprisonment for up to five year, or both. He is scheduled to appear in court for his
status conference on Oct. 16.

Six years ago, the remains of an unidentifi ed woman were
found in a shallow grave near Lake Thunderbird outside
Norman. The medical examiner’s offi ce believes the remains
are those of a white female, possibly with Native American
heritage, who was approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall and
between 30 and 45 years old. She also had given birth to at
least one child.
Due to the rate of decomposition, investigators believe she
had been in the grave between 3 and 12 months.
A distinct tattoo of a sunburst was on a large portion of her
back. Attempts to identify the woman through DNA have produced no results.
OSBI Forensic Artist Harvey Pratt reconstructed her skull to provide a likeness of the woman.

Richard Paul Geurin, 48, of Ardmore, pled guilty to Bank Theft,
Embezzlement and Misapplication on Sept. 24.
The charge arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau
of Investigation. Geurin was indicted in August 2014.
The Indictment alleged that from on or about February 3, 2011,
until on or about February 24, 2014, Geurin, being an officer,
director, agent, or employee of, or connected in a capacity with,
First Bank & Trust of Duncan, Oklahoma, a bank whose deposits
are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, with
intent to injure and defraud the said First Bank & Trust of Duncan, Oklahoma, willfully misapplied, embezzled, abstracted, and
purloined more than $1,000 of the moneys, funds, assets or securities entrusted to the custody or care of First Bank & Trust of
Duncan, Oklahoma, in that the defendant withdrew cash from the
accounts of certain bank customers and misapplied, embezzled, abstracted and purloined the
funds for his own use or benefit.
The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court
for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the guilty plea and ordered the
completion of a pre-sentence report.
The statutory range of punishment is up 30 years and $1,000,000 fine. The defendant will
remain on bond pending sentencing.

It was full speed ahead, keep the train a-chuggin’ all the way
to jail for Moore men Chuck Aaron Parkerson, 20, and 41-yearold Shane Wayne Howell.
Why, you ask? They took some spikes from a railroad track in
Cleveland County.
According to the affidavit, Moore police were dispatched to
the 1000 block of SW 34th Street because some idiot had caused
a train to make an emergency stop because he was standing on
the rails. When police arrived, they found Howell walking on
the rails with a 55-gallon plastic barrel full of approximately
150 railroad spikes on a 2-wheeled dolly. He told police his
name was Ewing. Wrong.
Anyways, police spent about an hour trying to confirm his
identity. They were unable to, but during the course of the investigation, they saw Parkerson standing on the tracks. When
he saw police, he ran. However, police soon found him at a
house that “Ewing” had given them as his home address. In the
yard, police saw several railroad spikes. Parkerson told them
that he and Howell had picked them up along the railroad.
A woman asked him if they had pulled the spikes from the
rails — he claimed they just picked them up off the side of the
rails. The woman and Parkerson told police Ewing’s real name
was Howell.
The car in the driveway was registered to Howell, and when
police requested a picture of Howell, they were able to positively identify him as Ewing. Or, Ewing as Howell. Howell also
had numerous warrants out of Cleveland County and Marshall
County.
The two men were arrested and it was chugga-chugga-choochoo all the way to jail cell.
Parkerson is being charged with removal of railroad equipment. He was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 30, 2014.

His bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 30, 2014.

Children have a
wonderful capacity
for trust. The faith
they put in adults is unqualified, and that should humble us; we often don’t
deserve it.
Sometimes kids suffer from intentional betrayal by a trusted adult, like
former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, recently convicted of
sexually abusing underprivileged young boys. Other times, they are neglected
by society at large, as are the 1.7 million children with a parent behind bars.
Many of these kids face enormous obstacles, but get little notice.
The Bible affirms that children are a central focus of God.
Our national problem is not that we somehow undervalue children; it’s
that we don’t always know where to look to find the children most in need
of our help. Inmates’ children in particular get placed on the back burner.
They grow up in single-parent homes, or they get shuffled into foster care.
They are five times more likely than their peers to live in poverty. They often
endure confusion, loneliness, depression, abandonment, social ostracism,
and profound anger. Should we be surprised if they often follow their
parents to prison?
It doesn’t take much to ease the burden of an inmate’s family. Churches—
and other people of good will—can incorporate prisoners’ children into their
existing programs, like VBS, youth mentoring programs, or summer camps.
They can make sure kids have the supplies they need to succeed in school, or
gifts to celebrate the holidays; the opportunities are boundless.
If we take seriously the notion that every child has inherent worth and
deserves our society’s nurture and protection, we cannot afford to ignore
children with an incarcerated parent. Like Jesus, we must reach out to them,
and their trust will for once not be betrayed. In turn we will discover that the
blessing goes both ways: They will teach us what it means to have faith that
pleases God, faith that presses in close, believing everything will be okay.
