A Valentine’s bar date left an Elmore
man so intoxicated that he was arrested
for a DUI after spending an evening
with a woman at a local bar.
On February 14, a Wynnewood police officer received a complaint that
there was a “highly intoxicated” man at
EZ-Mart at approximately 11:23 p.m.
When the officer arrived, he spotted the
suspect’s blue truck traveling west on
Highway 77, the affidavit states.
The officer followed the vehicle and
watched as the truck almost drove completely into the opposite lane of traffic. By this time, the driver was
out of Wynnewood city limits, but he continued to drive recklessly,
traveling off the road multiple times.
The officer stopped the man at the intersection of Highway 29 and
Indian Meridian, just west of I-35.
The driver, 32-year-old Dustin Ray Brooks, appeared to be very
intoxicated. When the officer asked him to step out of his vehicle,
the man stumbled and was unsteady on his feet. He told the officer
that he had picked up a woman, and they had gone to a local bar for
Valentine’s Day.
The intoxicated man had apparently not wanted the drunken night
to end because he had a 6-pack of beer in his truck – one of the bottles was open and sitting between the driver’s door and seat.
Brooks was placed under arrest.
He agreed to a breath alcohol test, and the results showed the
man’s breath alcohol level was 0.20, more than twice the legal limit.
Brooks is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol. He was released on a $2,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on March 27, 2015.

Byars man Larry Michael Davis, 63, was arrested February 11 after he allegedly fired a gun while intoxicated and then hit his wife
with a cane.
A McClain County deputy was dispatched to a residence in the
200 block of N. Third Street in Byars at approximately 8:30 p.m.
due to a disturbance and some shots being fired. When he arrived at
the residence, there was a woman standing outside.
According to the affidavit, she told him that her husband, identified as Davis, was drunk and out of control. She said he had been
drinking and doing things he shouldn’t be.
The woman told the deputy that Davis had fired three shots from a
22-caliber handgun into a wall in their house. He also hit her on her
lower leg with his wooden cane.
The deputy looked into the home and saw Davis sitting in a chair. He entered the residence
and immediately noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the man’s person. Davis also
had slurred speech and was unable to stand on his own.
The deputy placed him under arrest and investigated the scene. He found the handgun,
three empty 22 bullet cartridges on the floor, three bullet holes in a wooden door in the living
room, and an open bottle of whiskey next to the chair where Davis had been sitting.
Davis is being charged with domestic abuse assault and battery and carrying firearm while
under the influence. He was released on a PR bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
February 26, 2015.

On Feb. 20, Fount Duston, 34,
waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Duston is accused in the kidnapping
and rape of an Ardmore girl. He also
faces charges in Carter County.
In Love County, Dustin was charged
with kidnapping, first degree rape,
rape by instrumentation, three counts
of lewd molestation, feloniously pointing firearm, possession of firearm
while committing a felony, and furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor, on Nov. 11.
Carter County has charged Duston with one count of felony kidnapping.
A tip led authorities to Duston’s home on Nov. 9, where they found
the 7-year-old girl. She was rushed to a local hospital before being
returned to her family.
A Love County judge has set Duston’s formal arraignment for 9
a.m. on March 31.
Duston is being held in the Carter County Jail.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special
Ranger John Cummings is seeking information on the shooting of
a cow in Rogers County.
At Approximately 6:30 a.m. on Thurs. Feb. 5, a Rogers County
rancher found a black 12 year-old black cow shot and killed 30
yards from the intersection of Winganon Road and NS 4200 Road
near Chelsea, Okla.
The cow was shot in the head with a small caliber weapon and
the suspect(s) removed the right hindquarters and some of the
back strap from the dead cow. The remainder of the cow was left untouched. The cow was heavybred and the loss is reported at $2,500.
According to Cummings, this is the third cow/calf they know of that was killed and butchered in
the area since 2010. Cummings worked a similar case in the same area in 2012.

Nike Paul Lee, 38, was sentenced Feb. 13 to 92 months
imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release
for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
in federal court.
The charge arose from an investigation by the Chickasaw
Lighthorse Police, the Ardmore Police Department and the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Lee was indicted in June 2014 and pled guilty in July 2014.
The Indictment alleged that on or about February 6, 2014,
Lee did knowingly and intentionally possess with the intent
to distribute over five (5) grams or more of actual Methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
Lee was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending transportation to the designated federal
prison at which he will serve his non-parolable sentence.
Also, Richard Paul Geurin, 48, was sentenced Feb. 12 to 15
months imprisonment, followed by 24 months of supervised
release for Bank Theft, Embezzlement and Misapplication.
The charge arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Geurin was indicted in August 2014
and pled guilty in September 2014.
The Indictment alleged that from on or about February 3,
2011, until on or about February 24, 2014, Geurin, being an
officer, director, agent, or employee of, or connected in a capacity with, First Bank & Trust of Duncan, Oklahoma, a bank
whose deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation, with intent to injure and defraud the said First
Bank & Trust of Duncan, Oklahoma, willfully misapplied,
embezzled, abstracted, and purloined more than $1,000 of
the moneys, funds, assets or securities entrusted to the custody or care of First Bank & Trust of Duncan, Oklahoma, in that Geurin withdrew cash from
the accounts of certain bank customers and misapplied, embezzled, abstracted and purloined
the funds for his own use or benefit.

With this most recent ice
and snow storm that gripped
Oklahoma, there obviously were
some significant obstacles to safe driving. One that I have noticed,
that doesn’t really get a lot of attention, is the visibility that is
obstructed by iced over windshields and windows on vehicles. I’m
going to touch on some of that, to try to raise some awareness about
it, and give some tips to help us stay safe.
We’ve all seen it...a vehicle coming down the road with just a
small hole scraped in the windshield so the driver could see the
road. Every time I see it, I cringe! The law that governs this is
Oklahoma State Statute 47:12-404.C, which states: “No person
shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster, other nontransparent material, or debris, including but not limited to snow,
ice, or frost upon the front windshield or the side wings, or side
or rear windows......which obstructs, obscures, or impairs the
driver’s clear view of the highway ahead or to either side or of any
intersecting highway.” What this means to the everyday driver is
that the little hole you scraped to drive by, just won’t cut it! While
compliance is the goal, the reason is safety! Obviously the chances
of an accident drastically increase as visibility decreases...so why
limit our vision to just a small hole out the front windshield?
There are several ways to clear those windshields, both
mechanically and chemically. A simple ice scraper has been the
preferred method for as long as most people can remember. They
are inexpensive, and easy to find. Another method is simply to
go out 10 minutes before you leave, start your car up, and get the
defroster going! When the windows are clear, you are good to go.
Still another way is to obtain any number of chemical de-icing
sprays that are available at most stores. Don’t pour hot water
on your windows, as the change in temperatures can cause your
window to crack or break!
While we are talking about it, lets not forget about those side and
rear widows. A significant percentage of accidents happen while
backing, so it stands to reason that we need to be able to see out
our back glass as well as the front. Side windows are no different,
no one wants to be struck by a vehicle they couldn’t see when they
pull into an intersection. After you finish with those side windows,
go ahead and hit those side mirrors as well!
All of these suggestions simply take a little extra time, and
sometimes money, but the time and money pale in comparison to
the impact on time and money that an accident will have on you, or
others. As a safe, courteous driver, you owe it to yourself and your

Kingston woman Brittany Dawn Coffman, 27, and Madill man Albara G. Ortiz
Guerrero, 38, are being accused of larceny
and concealing stolen property after they allegedly sold stolen tablets in a casino.
On February 5, a woman contacted Madill
police and told them she had a purse “come
up missing” about two weeks prior. According to the affidavit, she said she hired Guerrero to do some work for her. Her purse,
along with two tablets, were nowhere to be
found after Guerrero had finished the job.
The victim said Coffman had told her that
Guerrero was blaming her for the stolen
items. When the officer spoke to Coffman,
she said she had nothing to do with the
missing items, and she had seen the stuff
in Guerrero’s residence a few days before
when they headed to the casino.
The victim told the officer where one of
the tablets had been sold. She said a woman
told her Guerrero sold her and her husband
a tablet in the casino.
The officer contacted the woman and
asked her if she had recently bought a tablet from someone. The
woman said she bought a tablet from Guerrero and a female at the
casino. She said the female handed her the tablet after she told them
she wanted to buy it.
The officer asked her if she could identify the two subjects from
a lineup of pictures -- she identified Guerrero and Coffman as the
people who sold her and her husband the tablet.
Guerrero is being charged with larceny from the house. His bond
was set at $6,500.
Coffman is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property. Her bond was set at $10,000.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on March 12, 2015.

A Moore man ended a night of partying by allegedly threatening to punch a cabbie and stealing his yellow cab.
When 44-year-old suspect Rhett Jasen Walker was asked
about the incident, he told police that he was “just drunk.”
You would think an intoxicated man was doing the right
thing by calling a cab to take him home, but not if he was
going to steal the cab!
According to the affidavit, a cab driver stopped at a gas
station called Moore police on February 18. He said a passenger was threatening to punch him. The driver said he was
trying to take the man home from a bar, but the man was “heavily intoxicated”
and threatened to punch the driver in the back of the head.
During the call, the driver stepped inside the gas station to get out of the cold.
While he was on the phone, the driver saw Walker jump into the driver’s seat and
drive his cab away “without permission.”
Police found Walker and the stolen cab traveling eastbound in the 500 block of
SW 19th Street.
An officer immediately took the man into custody and asked him why he stole
the cab. The red, watery-eyed and smelling-like-alcohol man initially denied taking the car, but then he later slurred to the officer, “I don’t know why I did that.”
The officer asked the man if he thought he stole the cab because he was intoxicated. Walker shook his head yes.
After being placed under arrest, Walker agreed to take the state’s breath alcohol test. His BAC was 0.24, three times the legal limit.
During the test, he kept saying, “I don’t know why I did that -- I guess I am just
drunk.”
Walker is being charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving a motor
vehicle while under the influence of
alcohol. He was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on March 3, 2015.
