Noble woman Donna Darlene Ferrer, 63, was arrested
in Maysville August 3 for stabbing a juvenile during a
dispute over a room.
According to the police report, a Maysville officer was
dispatched to the 800 block of Mays at 2:45 p.m. due to a
stabbing. A juvenile male at the residence told the officer
Ferrer stabbed him.
The story is a little confusing, but a juvenile female at
the residence told the officer the victim started moving a
kid’s things out of the room and moving his own things
in.
When the mom saw what he was doing, she went crazy
and called for her mom, identified as Ferrer.
Ferrer threw a cup of coffee on the juvenile and hit him in the face. The victim
was able to push her away, but she pulled out a knife and stabbed him.
The victim told the officer the same story.
Ferrer and her daughter told the officer they noticed some of the kid’s things
had been taken out of the room. When the daughter confronted the victim, she
said he started “slinging her around.”
That’s when Ferrer rushed to her rescue with a cup of coffee and slap to the
face. The woman said Ferrer pulled out a knife to protect her.
When the officer told her the victim and witness told a different story, she
didn’t say anything.
Ferrer said she walked into the house and saw the victim and her daughter
pushing each other, so she pulled out her knife and swung it at the victim.
The officer asked her if she could have just called the police instead -- she said
“probably.”
Ferrer is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. She
was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 11, 2015.

When a Moore man was arrested in McClain County for a
warrant out of Oklahoma County, he tried to escape by stealing a bail agent’s vehicle and wallet -- all with his hands still
handcuffed behind his back.
On July 31, the bail agent brought 29-year-old Nolan Stephen Potter to the McClain County jail for the warrant shortly
after 5 p.m. The agent left the man handcuffed in the vehicle
while he rang at the jail’s back door.
Potter saw this as a chance to escape!
He climbed out of the backseat into the driver’s seat, locked
the car doors and drove off. He did all of this with his hands cuffed behind his
back.
As he drove out of the parking lot, he hit a parked truck.
An officer tried to stop the man at SH-75 and 230th, but Potter accelerated to
80 mph and kept on going. According to the affidavit, he intentionally swerved
across the center line into ongoing traffic at least four times. Oncoming motorists
had to drive off the road to avoid being struck head on by Potter.
At Green Avenue, Potter turned back north and headed northbound on I-35,
passing cars on the shoulder and reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
At Ladd Road, Potter made a quick lane change, cutting off other vehicles. He
was unable to take the curve at the exit and he drove off the road and landed in a
ditch. Potter then jumped out of the car and took off running.
Officers caught up the to man and placed him under arrest.
Police found the bail agent’s wallet with credit cards and cash still inside on
Potter’s person.
Potter is being charged with unauthorized use of vehicle, knowingly concealing stolen property, endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police officer and leaving scene of accident involving damage. His bond was set at
$12,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on August 26, 2015.

The Ardmore Police Department requested OSBI
investigative and crime scene investigations involving an officer-involved shooting on August 9.
Just before 10 a.m., a woman called from a home
in the 1000 block of Bailey Street in Ardmore saying
her son, Eric Thompkins, was suicidal. When officers
arrived on the scene, they found Thompkins, 41, outside. He ignored commands to keep his hands out
of his pockets and pulled out what appeared to be a
handgun.
One officer fired his weapon striking Thompkins. He was transported to Mercy
hospital in Ardmore where doctors pronounced him dead.
Officers also learned Thompkins had ingested a large amount of rat poison before they arrived at the house.
OSBI will conduct a thorough investigation and present the district attorney
with the facts. The district attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified. OSBI will not release the names of officers involved since they are the subjects of the investigation.

On August 19, the Carter County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI
agents investigate a jail death.
Before noon on August 19, Everett Park, 20, was found unconscious inside his jail cell where he
was housed by himself. Park was
transported to Mercy Memorial
hospital in Ardmore where doctors pronounced him dead. The
medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine his
cause and manner of death.
Park was arrested August 18 for first degree murder.

There is a saying that all good
things must come to an end. I
would like to think that my
monthly Tips From a Trooper articles have been a good thing, and
hopefully put some good information out there. Alas, this will be
my final installment of Tips. A new chapter has opened up in my
career as an Oklahoma State Trooper, and I will be taking on a
new assignment. It took a lot of thought and prayer to come to the
decision to take on my new assignment, and I thought that process
was worthy of some consideration in this final Tips.
When this opportunity presented itself, obviously it was
something that could not be decided spur of the moment. Usually,
when faced with new opportunities, we can experience either
apprehension or excitement initially. Decisions shouldn’t be made
in either of these conditions. A good piece of advice that I received
a long time ago is to sleep on it. If you have time, and we usually
do, take that time, and see how you feel about the issue 24 hours
later. If you still feel excited, or apprehensive, then those feelings
should be further explored!
A great thing to do when you have a tough decision to make is
the old pros and cons list. This tool is invaluable, and was for me
in my decision! Gather as much information as you can to help
you in making this list. If you have one side of the ledger that is
overwhelmingly longer than the other, then you should seriously
consider what that means, and perhaps decide accordingly!
Talk to your family! Many decisions not only affect you, but your
family as well, so you should get their take on it. Be sure and run
down those pros and cons as they may be able to add to the list. It
is important to have your family involved in those big decisions, as
they will be supporting you whichever way you decide.
Last but not least, pray. I don’t intend this to be a religious
stance, but it is part of who I am, and prayer helped me immensely
in this decision. Whatever your belief system is, seek guidance
through prayer.
After going through this process, I decided to accept an assignment
in the Office of Professional Standards within the Oklahoma
Highway Patrol. Taking this assignment was made much easier
knowing that Troop K and Payne County would be in good hands
with the current Command Staff in Troop K. Thankfully, no move
is required, so my family and I will continue to be part of this great
community! I would like to thank each and every one of the people
I have worked with, both OHP and other agencies. I would also like
to thank everyone who came up and said they enjoyed my articles,
you don’t know how much that meant to me!

Norman police arrested a McCloud man on August 6
after he admitted to attacking his ex’s new man with gasoline and threatening to kill him.
The new man beat the ex at his own game!
According to the police report, the victim told police
he saw 29-year-old Michael Thomas Mclovin puncture
his vehicle tires while he was at his girlfriend’s house in
the 3500 block of 144th Avenue NE on August 5. Apparently, Mclovin and the victim’s girlfriend had just ended
a “lengthy relationship.”
Mclovin then threatened the man with the knife he
used to slash the tires and left the residence.
He wasn’t done, though.
In the early morning hours of August 6, the man was
awakened by Mclovin yelling at him while holding a crowbar, brass knuckles, and a bottle full of gasoline. Mclovin
threw gasoline on the victim.
The victim was able to grab the pipe Mclovin was holding and hit the man. He then used
some zip-ties Mclovin had brought into the residence that had been premade into improvised handcuffs to subdue the man until cops arrived.
The victim told police he also had phone messages from Mclovin threatening to kill him
and “burn the place down.”
Mclovin was wearing gloves, and he had a 2-foot ground rod, brass knuckles, a knife, zip
ties zipped together and a water bottle full of gasoline.
The man didn’t try to deny anything -- he told police he punctured the victim’s tires and
broke into the house. He said he was mad the victim was there with his ex.
Mclovin also admitted to hitting the victim with the rod and spraying him with gasoline.
He told police he told the victim in the past he was going to burn the house down, and he was
ready to do it! He said he had a cigarette lighter in his pocket during the altercation.
Mclovin is being charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon,
fourth-degree arson and carrying weapons. His bond was set at $150,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on August 18, 2015.
