A Waco man and his girlfriend were taken into custody March 28
on Waco, TX warrants.
Jesus Ramos, 22, was held without bond as a fugitive from justice
and on warrants charging aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to reports.
Amber Nichole Herrera, 26, was held without bond charged with
being a fugitive from justice, online records showed.
Waco police Officer Steve Anderson said the warrants were issued in
connection with an incident on Jan. 28 after Waco police were sent at
about 12 a.m. to a residence in Waco.
A victim and his girlfriend had gone to that address to visit with
friends when two men showed up and accused the victim of stealing a
gun from them.
The two men robbed the victim at gunpoint of cash and other valuables and assaulted him by hitting him with a pistol, Anderson said.
Prior to the robbery warrants being issued, Ramos was arrested on
Feb. 7 after Waco police and federal marshals raided a residence and
recovered drugs and body armor, Anderson said.

Spring is a time of new
beginnings, brought about by
spring rains that start quenching
the winter thirst of all things dormant through the winter. Although
lately, things seem to have been drier than usual, I’m writing this
Tips in the hopes of maybe bringing about some much needed rain
by talking about it! If you’ve lived in Oklahoma any period of time,
you know that spring rains usually bring spring flooding, which
can significantly impact travel in the state. I’m going to talk a little
about the dangers that roadway flooding can present, and some
tips for avoiding them.
Every year that we have flooding, we get stories about
motorists who are stranded in water that has risen up over the
roadway. The news has the usual shot of one vehicle with its
hazard lights on not moving, followed by video of other vehicles
still driving through these flooded roads. The solution is very
simple, if you don’t want to be that vehicle that is stranded, don’t
drive through standing water! Most of the locations that typically
flood over in heavy rains are traditional places where this happens
year after year. The problem with this is that usually, the locals
think since they’ve been able to drive through it before, it shouldn’t
be any problem now. A lot of things can happen under water that
we can’t see though. Parts of the roadway could wash out, debris
could be covered up that can’t be seen, and other unseen hazards
could be present. All of these things can spell disaster for the
person who assumes it will be ok to drive through standing water
on the roadway.
Next, don’t drive around “Road Closed” signs. Every year
in these traditional flood areas, the public safety officials close the
roads for safety, and every year people drive around those signs
and end up needing rescued. Not only are those signs put up for
your safety, it is illegal to drive around them. They are Official
Traffic Control Devices, and as Oklahoma State Statute 47:11-201A
states: The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any
official traffic-control device...unless otherwise directed by a traffic
or police officer.
Last, be aware of your surroundings, so that you can find
an alternate route if needed. In today’s technology driven world,
this is easier than ever to do. Use that smart phone, tablet, or GPS
device to find a way around flooded areas. Also, when the potential
for floods can cause roads to be closed, give yourself extra time to
reach your destination, in case an alternate route is needed.
Hopefully, this spring will be full of showers that bring
out the green grass and flower blooms, instead of continued burn
bans. If those April showers bring those May flowers, now you’ll
have some tips for avoiding any of the pitfalls that inherently come

Frederick man Lucas Trey Hanes, 23, may have a love of
incense, but he apparently had no sense because he was allegedly keeping bags of marijuana in his vehicle.
According to the affidavit, a Tillman County deputy was
on patrol when he saw a car parked on the road on U.S.
Highway 183 south of Frederick.
The car’s park lights were on, so the officer approached
the vehicle to check for suspicious activity.
The activity going on inside the car couldn’t have been
any more suspicious.
The deputy immediately smelled a very strong odor of incense coming from inside the vehicle. Knowing that stoners often use incense in an attempt to cover up the smell of
burning marijuana, the deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Hanes.
While he was talking to Hanes, another deputy noticed a partially full bottle of whiskey
in the front seat of Hanes’s car.
Police asked Hanes to exit his vehicle. When he did, the deputies noticed two more
bottles of alcohol in the front passenger floorboard. A deputy also noticed a Crown Royal
bag in the passenger seat. Inside the bag, the deputy found several baggies containing a
green leafy substance.
When he asked Hanes about the baggies, Hanes admitted that the substance was marijuana, and he told police that there were also several pipes in the car.
A deputy placed Hanes under arrest, and police continued searching the vehicle. They
found more baggies of a green leafy substance, items commonly used to ingest marijuana
smoke, a box of plastic baggies, prescription bottles belonging to different people, and
other items associated with drug use.
Hanes is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. He was held on a $10,000 bond.

Two Roosevelt men were arrested March 25 after a
concerned citizen called police because the men’s activity with a gun was making him nervous.
According to the affidavit, Kiowa County deputies responded to the call at a residence in the 300 block of
Main Street in Roosevelt.
When they arrived, they saw two men sitting in a truck
with the passenger door open. When the men saw the
deputies, they allegedly starting moving around and exited the vehicle.
A deputy asked them what they were doing. They explained that they were teaching a dog to coon hunt. They
showed police a dead coon in the back of the truck.
The subjects identified themselves as Kelly Foster, 18, and Tristan Scott Howard, 20.
As the deputy was speaking with them, he noticed the odor of alcohol. He asked
them if they had any guns, and Foster told him there was a shotgun in the backseat of the truck.
The deputy walked to the passenger side of the truck and shined his flashlight
in the window. He noticed an open bottle of beer. Since both men were under the
age 21, the deputy asked them whose beer it was. Howard said it was his.
Police asked the men if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. Howard said
yes, and a deputy asked him what it was. Howard paused, then started walking
toward the driver’s door.
The deputy told him to stop and asked him if there was marijuana in the vehicle.
Howard told him yes, and directed police to two baggies of a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana in the ashtray of the truck. Howard told
them that there was also a grinder under the cup holder.
Both men were placed under arrest and transported to jail.
When Foster was being booked into jail, a smoking device fell out from his
clothing. The deputy found a burnt marijuana residue in the pipe.
Howard is being charged with possessing a firearm after a felony conviction,
possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug
paraphernalia. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on May 14, 2014.
Foster is being charged with bringing contraband into the jail and possession
of a controlled substance. He was released on a $4,000 bond and is scheduled to
appear in court on May 8, 2014.

An Anadarko man was arrested after
he drunkenly ran into a building in a
drive-thru hit and run.
The building can be fixed; the man’s
criminal record cannot.
In the early morning hours of March
23, an Anadarko police officer was in the
area of Fourth and Kentucky when he
saw an SUV driving through the streets
at a high rate of speed, the affidavit
states. He watched as the vehicle pulled
into the parking lot of a gas station in the
500 block of East Central. The vehicle attempted to go through the drive-thru on
the west side of the building, but it failed. It hit the building, causing damage, and then sped back down the road before stopping at a
residence on Fourth and East Kentucky.
As the officer pulled up, he saw the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 28-year-old Matthew Luke Hugar, and several other people
exit the vehicle.
An officer made contact with Hugar and his passengers, and he
told them to get back in the car.
The officer allegedly noticed that Hugar was unsteady on his feet,
and had red watery eyes and slow slurred speech.
After checking Hugar’s information, the officer was advised that
Hugar did not have a valid driver’s license.
The officer asked Hugar to exit the vehicle; police attempted to
perform sobriety tests, but Hugar was unable to prove his sobriety.
Hugar was placed under arrest and transported to the Caddo
County Detention Center, where a breath test revealed that his blood
alcohol level was at .26.
Hugar was booked on complaints of driving a motor vehicle while
under the influence of alcohol, aggravated, leaving the scene of an
accident damaged fixture and driving without a driver’s license. He
was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on May 22, 2014.

The Bible does not specifically use the term
“child abuse.” There is no record of a single
instance in the Bible where a child is being abused.
What the Bible does tell us is this: children have
a special place in God’s heart and anyone who
harms a child is inviting God’s wrath upon Him.
When Jesus’ disciples tried to keep children from
coming to Him, He rebuked them and welcomed
little children to His side, saying, “Let the little
children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of God
belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14). Then He took the children in His
arms and blessed them (v. 16).
Children are abused and mistreated in several different ways, all of which
are abhorrent to God. Too many children are the victims of angry beatings
and other physical abuse as their parents take out their own anger and
frustration on their children. Anger is almost always sinful, and anyone
who abuses a child in anger commits multiplied sins. “An angry man stirs
up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins” (Proverbs
29:22). There is no place for unrighteous anger in the life of a Christian,
as Paul reminds the Ephesians: “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the
sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold”
(Ephesians 4:26-27). Anger should be confessed to God long before it comes
to the point of physical abuse against a child or anyone else.
Psychological and emotional abuse is also forbidden in Scripture.
Ephesians 6:4 warns fathers not to “exasperate” or provoke their children,
but to bring them up in the “training and instruction of the Lord.” Harsh,
unloving discipline alienates children’s minds from their parents and
renders their instructions and corrections useless. In addition, it often leads
to sin against God, as it is difficult in the best of children to be angry and
yet not sin. Parents can provoke and exasperate their children by placing
unreasonable requirements on them, belittling them, or constantly finding
fault, thereby producing wounds that are far worse than any physical
beating can inflict. Colossians 3:21 tells us not to “embitter” our children so
they will not become discouraged. Ephesians 4:15-19 says we are to speak
the truth in love and use our words to build others up, not allow rotten or
destructive words to pour from our lips, especially toward the tender hearts
and minds of children.
So, even though the Bible does not specifically mention child abuse, it is
abundantly clear how God feels about the issue. Anyone who suspects a child
is being abused has the obligation to report it to appropriate authorities.

An Oklahoma City attorney is facing prison time after being
arrested inside the Oklahoma County jail. The Sheriff’s office
says the investigation when a female inmate told deputies the
man she thought was her attorney was engaging in sexual acts
during visitations.
Deputies arrested Frank Kirk, 70, on Monday after setting
up a sting that caught him on audio tape with the inmate. Investigators say the inmate originally contacted Kirk in January
about representing her, but it turns out he never filed to be her
attorney of record.
“Kirk told the victim that since she didn’t have the cash to pay for his services
she could make it up to him by performing sexual acts instead,” said Sheriff John
Whetsel.
Sheriff Whetsel said the investigation revealed the Kirk only pretended to represent the woman who was in jail on drug charges. She discovered the ruse when
the public defender’s office contacted her about her case. That’s when the woman
talked to deputies and agreed to assist in the investigation.
Investigators say the woman met with Kirk inside the jail and he is heard on
audio tape making advances towards her. The sheriff’s office says the woman was
told to use the phrase “my pants are too tight” to signal deputies to enter the room.
“During his visit, Kirk furnished her with lubricating jelly and a sex toy and as this
began our investigators opened the door and arrested Frank Kirk immediately.”
According to court documents the female inmate told investigators that Kirk
coerced her into performing sexual acts while he watched at least four times.

Choctaw man Travis William Hassman,
41, was arrested March 21 after he had perhaps a little too much fun drinking beer all
day.
A Cotton County deputy initiated a traffic stop on Hassman’s vehicle, because the
truck didn’t have tail light lamps.
Hassman came to a stop in the parking lot
of a casino and immediately exited his vehicle.
The deputy noticed that Hassman had to
use his vehicle for balance when stepping
out of the truck; he told Hassman to stay in the vehicle.
When he approached Hassman, the deputy noticed a very strong
odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. Hassman also had
bloodshot watery eyes.
When the deputy asked him where was going, Hassman replied in
extremely slurred speech, “Here, the casino.”
The deputy asked him when he had last consumed alcohol, Hassman said an hour ago, and told the deputy he had been drinking
“beer all day.”
The deputy told Hassman to step out of the vehicle for standard
field sobriety tests. Hassman told him, “I will tell you right now that
I’m drunk — too drunk to drive.”
When the deputy asked him how much he had had to drink, Hassman told him five beers.
The deputy attempted to perform field sobriety tests, but the tests
were cut short due to Hassman’s inability to perform them and the
deputy’s fear that Hassman might fall or hurt himself.
A deputy asked Hassman to take a preliminary breath test, and
Hassman allegedly said, “OK, I will, buddy,” before blowing a 0.333
BAC.
Hassman is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, aggravated. He was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug.
12, 2014.

A man and woman were taken into custody on March 22, after
police found meth and marijuana in their vehicle and in the man’s
child’s diaper bag.
According to the affidavit, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper
was on patrol when he saw Blair man James Randall Nash, 39, sitting in his vehicle at the intersection of Benson Street and U.S. Highway 62 in Altus.
Nash started to drive away, but upon seeing the trooper, he allegedly came to a stop.
As the trooper waited for Nash to cross the intersection, he noticed
that Nash’s window was down, and he appeared to be nervously
watching the trooper in the rearview mirror.
The trooper conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Cypress and Benson Street.
When the trooper approached Nash, he recognized the passenger,
29-year-old Ashley Nicole Kay, of Mangum, whom he knew had warrants for escaping from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
The trooper noticed that Nash and Kay appeared to be under the
influence of meth, and Nash’s young child was in the front seat.
After confirming that Kay had warrants, the trooper placed her
under arrest. When he opened the passenger door, he smelled the
odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Police conducted a search of the vehicle and found a baggy with
a rock-like substance that tested positive for meth. In the child’s diaper bag, they located a
needle, syringe with a liquid believed to be meth and scales.
Police also found a padlocked bag that Kay admitted was hers. When they asked if there
was anything illegal in the bag, Kay told them that it contained meth and marijuana. Inside
the bag was a baggy containing a rock-like substance and one containing a green leafy substance. There were also scales and a glass pipe in the bag.
When police asked her why she had so much, Kay told them that she sells it.
Nash is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance. He is being held
on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 29, 2014.
Kay is being charged with unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance with
intent to distribute and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held on a
$100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 5, 2014.
