A Lawton man terrorized a Cyril neighborhood when he
ran around to different homes wearing only a sweatshirt
on November 27.
According to the affidavit, a Cyril officer was dispatched
to the 300 block of S. Fifth Street around 5 a.m. A woman
said a bearded man, later identified as Jordon Aaron Harvey, 36, was peering into her grandson’s window. When
the woman’s husband went to see what he was doing, Harvey said he was looking for another man who didn’t live at
the residence. The man saw Harvey put on a sweatshirt,
but it didn’t seem he was wearing much else. He left the
residence.
The homeowner of a nearby house told the officer that a
man came to her door and
asked to use her phone because he had been “kicked out
of his car.” The woman offered to call the police for him.
He left her residence.
Calls flooded into 911 from the neighborhood about the bearded half-naked man.
The officer found him running into an alley in the 500 block of Fifth Street. The agile nudist
then jumped over a fence into a nearby backyard. The officer found him leaning up against
the home in attempt to hide.
The officer told him to put his hands up, but he probably wishes he hadn’t. The sweatshirt
came up, and there was Harvey’s junk. The poor officer had to use physical force to get Harvey in the patrol car. The entire time, Harvey fought back and was loud and belligerent.
The officer took Harvey to the jail so he could get some pants. He then took the man to the
hospital.
While waiting for his release, the officer was advised that yet another man had called the
police station. He said he woke up to find the front and back doors of his home open. He also
found a sheet, a white tank top and a sock that weren’t his. Several items were knocked over
or moved around, and one of the man’s sweatshirts was missing -- a sweatshirt that was eerily
similar to the one Harvey was wearing when he was arrested.
Harvey is being charged with burglary in the first degree, burglary in the second degree,
peeping tom, resisting an officer and indecent exposure. His bond was set at $15,000, and he
is scheduled to appear in court on December 31, 2015.

Today, I’m going to discuss who
has the biggest impact on our new
drivers that hit the road each and
every day. First, the Oklahoma Driver’s Education classes and
schools across the state are second to none, and do a fantastic job
of educating our young drivers on the law, and proper way to safely
operate a motor vehicle. I would like to point to some other folks,
who I believe have a far greater impact on how our youngsters
approach driving, and address them, and that is the adults who
these young drivers look up to: the parents, older siblings, and
extended family.
If you fit in this category, please pay attention. I believe that our
kids learn their driving behavior not from the Oklahoma Highway
Patrol, other law enforcement, or driver’s education instructor, but
from you, the parents and family. I know I learned that way! Let
me give you some examples.
You are a dad, and for whatever reason, when you are driving
in town, or on a county road, you just don’t buckle up. Maybe
its because you don’t drive fast in these areas, or have a farm tag
and just don’t have to; however, you do buckle up when you get
on highways or go on long drives. The message you are sending is
that when you are in the vehicle there are certain times that it is
ok not to wear your seat belt. If dad doesn’t have to do it, I don’t
either! In fact, at least 50% of all accidents happen on county roads,
and you are more likely to be in an accident within 10 miles of your
residence than otherwise. So the real message you are sending is,
don’t buckle up during the times that you are most likely to need it!
Next, mom gets off work at 5:00, and one of the kids has a ball
game in another town at 5:30. She can get there if she speeds. After
all, it is important to get to those activities, and it won’t hurt to
push the speed just a little. The message you send to your kids
is, its ok to speed, as long as you can justify it! The facts are that
unsafe speeds kill more young people 16 to 25 than any other single
thing! The message here needs to be that its ok to slow down and
show up a few minutes late.....it is much better than the alternative,
which is never showing up at all because you’ve been involved in
an accident.
Please remember, when you are driving, you are setting
the example for someone....and they are watching you all the
time. What message are you sending? I hope it’s the one that says,
I’ll lead by example because I love you, and want to do my part to
keep you safe! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

A 19-year-old Mountain Park man took an officer on a highspeed chase through Snyder and Mountain Park on November 20. The driver continued to rack up the charges even after
the chase ended.
According to the affidavit, a Snyder officer was advised of
a reckless driver in a parking lot on 13th Street at approximately 9:38 p.m. It didn’t take him long to find the suspect.
When the officer arrived at the location, he saw a truck approach the intersection of E Street and 13th at a high rate of
speed. The truck ran a stop sign, then turned northbound on
E Street, fishtailing and spinning tires. He then accelerated to
more than 100 mph in 30 mph posted zones.
The officer pursued the suspect, but the driver obviously
had no intent of stopping. The pursuit continued northbound
onto Highway 183 and into the city limits of Mountain Park.
The driver came to a stop at the intersection of Highway 183 and CR 1590. He then started
reversing in the northbound lane of the highway, then spun around facing southbound. He
continued in reverse until his truck came to rest in a ditch on the west side of the highway.
The officer brought his patrol car to a stop in front of the truck and exited the vehicle. He
ordered the suspect to get out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
The officer immediately recognized the man as Jacob Murray Blain from previous dealings.
Blain refused commands to get on the ground. When the officer saw that he didn’t have a
weapon, he holstered his gun and told the man to put his hands behind his back.
Blain at first did as the officer said, but when the officer approached him to place him in
handcuffs, Blain tensed up and started resisting. A scuffle ensued and the two men fell to
the ground.
Other officers arrived to assist, and Blain was eventually placed under arrest.
Blain is being charged with obstructing officer, attempting to elude a police officer and
reckless driving. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
February 2, 2016.

but despite this
decrease, there
were still 10,228
lives lost – that’s
one person every 51 minutes. That makes it everyone's problem.
It seems that many people were doing their part to put a stop to
this completely preventable epidemic. Alcohol-related traffic fatalities reached a low point in the late 1990s. Research also indicates
that 62% of Americans exposed to the now-iconic Friends Don't Let
Friends Drive Drunk campaign have personally intervened to stop
someone from driving drunk, no doubt saving countless lives.
However, since the late 90's, alcohol-related driving deaths have
been steadily increasing. It seems that though the campaign was very
successful, it did not change the behavior of many potential impaired
drivers. Many thought the messages to be targeted at overtly drunk
drivers, and not them. When decision time came, they would consider themselves merely "buzzed" and get behind the wheel.
The new PSAs created to address this gap were released in December 2005 with the objective to inspire dialogue and recognition of
the dangers of "buzzed" driving and subsequently, to motivate people
to stop driving buzzed. The next installment expands on this message, equating buzzed driving and drunk driving and demonstrating
the devastating consequences that can occur as a result of buzzed
driving. The overall campaign hopes to educate people that consuming even a few drinks can impair driving and that Buzzed Driving is
Drunk Driving.

A Wichita Falls, Texas, man didn’t try to
hide his love of the green herb when a state
trooper stopped his car on November 13.
29-year-old Anthony Christopher Merito
told the trooper that he smokes weed every
single day.
The trooper stopped Merito shortly after
11 p.m. on I-44 and SH 36 after he failed
to signal when he changed lanes. When the
trooper made contact with the man, he immediately smelled burnt marijuana and alcohol.
According to the police report, Merito appeared to be very nervous
during the stop. The trooper asked him to have a seat in the patrol
vehicle. He could still smell burnt marijuana on the man.
The trooper asked Merito if there was any marijuana in his vehicle.
Merito said he smoked all that he had on his way to the casino and
threw the roach out of the window.
The trooper then asked if there were any open containers in the
car. Merito said there was some beer in the backseat.
The trooper looked in the vehicle and found an open beer that was
spilling on the floor and an open bottle of vodka.
Merito had thick, slurred speech, his pupils were dilated, and his
eyes were watery and bloodshot. He performed poorly on the sobriety tests, so the trooper placed him under arrest.
When the trooper asked the man if he would take the state’s blood
test, he said yes. He added that he knew the test would show marijuana, because he smokes weed every single day.
Merito is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and intoxicating substance and transporting open container of
liquor. He was released on a $2,259 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on February 19, 2016.

The term “outgunned” doesn’t quite do
this story justice. Derrick Mosley strolled
into a discount gun store with a baseball
bat, smashed a glass display case and
tried to steal a firearm. Yes, he tried to
rob a gun shop with a baseball bat. What
happened next? The manager pulled out
a gun of his own, pointed it at Derrick
and kept him in the crosshairs until the
police arrived. Don’t be too hard on yourself Derrick. Guns in a gun store? Nobody
could have anticipated that.
A customer at Applebee’s handed a
waitress her own stolen driver’s license in
an attempt to order alcohol. The culprit
was a 26-year-old woman, so she didn’t
need to use a fake ID to buy her margarita
anyway, but we’ll set that aside. Kudos to
the waitress, who remained calm, told the
customer she was off to get her drink and
called the police instead.
Getaway cars are just for the movies. Real
criminals use getaway donkeys. A trio of Columbian robbers in the exotic sounding town
Juan de Acosta loaded stolen rum, rice, tuna
and sardines onto Xavi, a 10-year-old donkey.
It was all going to plan, but then the donkey
starting “heehawing”. Loudly. The racket
alerted police to the robbery and the burglars
ran.
A would-be lumberjack was casually strolling down a suburban street with an axe in
hand when he happened across a bike, which
was chained around a tree. The axeman wanted to acquire this bike for himself. So he started to chop down the tree, blissfully oblivious
to the stares of passers-by. The bemused spectators chased him away several times, but the
lumberjack was determined. After a period of
about seven minutes, he managed to fell the
tree. Unfortunately, the thief was chased away
again before he could claim his prize.

A “rude” Altus woman was
arrested for assault after she
slapped a clipboard out of an officer’s hands on November 23.
Maybe some jail time will
calm her down!
According to the police report, an Altus officer first made
contact with 23-year-old Marnice Daniels after a store clerk
called police and said she was
being rude and wouldn’t leave the store. The officer went to the store
in the 700 block of E. Broadway shortly after 10 p.m. to see what was
going on. He found Daniels standing inside the doorway of the store.
When he asked her what she was doing, she told him she was just
waiting on a ride.
The store clerk who called police said Daniels had been in the store
for about an hour. During that time, she was rude and “belligerent”
to the employee. The victim said she wanted Daniels to get out of her
store. She agreed to sign a trespass warning.
The officer asked Daniels to step outside so he could get her information, but her nastiness just continued. She was rude to officers on
the scene. She told one officer to leave her alone or she was going to
knock “that clipboard out of [his] hands.”
Officers tried to explain that they just needed some of her information, but Daniels wasn’t playing around. When the officer with the
clipboard tried talking to her again, she slapped his hands just like
she said she would.
The rude woman was then arrested and transported to jail.
Daniels is being charged with assault and battery upon a police officer. Her bond was set at $10,000, and she is scheduled to appear in
court on December 21, 2015.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
