Five teens have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 20 murders of a Lawton
man and his son.
Thorsten Rushing, 18, Ethan Thompson, 19, Cody Davis, 19, Timothy Delahoy,
18, and a juvenile male, were taken into
custody less than a week after the crime
as suspects in the shooting deaths of Uwe
Rushing, 50, and his son, Stefan, 13.
Thorsten Rushing is the son and brother of the victims.
The father and son were shot in their
Lawton home early Jan. 20. Thorsten
originally told police that two black males
wearing dark sweaters and masks entered
the house through the back door and shot
the victims. Thorsten said he was able to
obtain a shotgun and shot at the suspects.
He added the suspects then left in an unknown direction or mode of travel.
Thorsten was questioned by police and later released, but during the investigation,
Lawton detectives discovered that parts of Thorsten’s story failed to match up with the
crime scene, according to reports.
CNN reports that the five teens “were involved in the murders in various ways to include planning, assisting beforehand, assisting during or assisting afterward.” One of
them was reportedly present with Thorsten Rushing at the time of the shooting.
The suspects are awaiting formal charges.

Another New Year has come,
and with it, millions of people
have made resolutions to improve some aspect of their lives. Some
of these resolutions are doomed from the start for a multitude of
reasons. Even though successfully sticking with and accomplishing
a New Year’s resolution goal may not seem to directly relate to
driving safely, I’m going to try and give some tips on increasing
your ability to stick to a resolution, and tie it in to how it could
actually make you a safer driver!
Some of the more popular resolutions are to lose weight, get in
shape, or quit smoking. Each one of these are great goals. So to
achieve a goal, a person must clearly define the actual goal. For
quitting smoking, that one is pretty clearly defined as it is. For the
other, some more clarity is needed. How much weight do you want
to lose? How long are you giving yourself to get there? Once you
define these goals and time lines, write them down somewhere! Put
them somewhere that you are reminded of them each day. Make
sure your goals are reasonable, and attainable. It won’t do any
good to set goals that are unrealistic!
Next, we need to write down how exactly we plan to accomplish
our goals. For smoking, are you going cold turkey, using the patch,
or incrementally cutting down how many cigarettes you smoke a
day until you aren’t smoking at all? For losing weight, write down
your workout program, and schedule. Write down your diet goals
and track it religiously. Try to find someone who will join you in
your workouts and diet. Having someone to count on and someone
counting on you is a great support system for you in your efforts.
Last, tell as many people as you feel comfortable. Get people on
your side to support you, and hold you accountable to your goals
when you have moments of weakness! Believe in yourself! Have a
positive attitude about what you are trying to accomplish.
So how do accomplishing these goals help you be a safer
driver? Studies have shown that people who exercise and eat
right have sharper mental focus. Since a significant percentage
of accidents are caused due to inattention, improved focus will
obviously pay off while driving! Exercise will help improve handeye coordination, which is a big positive while driving! A healthy,
smoke-free body minimizes the risk of heart attack and other
medical issues that could be tragic anytime, not just behind the
wheel.
So there you have it. Successful accomplishment of some of
the most popular New Year’s resolutions will not only have you
slimmer, healthier, and happier, but can have an impact on your
ability to be a safer, courteous driver! Thanks for reading, buckle
up, and be safe!

Reports of crime in the neighborhood
can make one feel uneasy. The affected
community may work to rebuild
its sense of security by hiring more
police, improving street lighting, and
imposing strict curfews. In addition
to this, community efforts to reduce
poverty and provide better educational
opportunities for all community
members can help eliminate crimes of
desperation and strengthen the fiber of
the community.
To eliminate crime entirely, wouldn’t
we also need to address other issues
that cause criminal behavior? Wouldn’t
we need to address things such as
dishonesty, disrespect, greed, and hatred that seem to come from
within individuals? As Jesus pointed out, “Evil thoughts come out
of the heart” (Matthew 15:19 New International Reader’s Version).
To end criminal behavior, we need to reach the heart of people with
the healing touch of divine Love.
Jesus’ life, recorded in the Bible, shows us how to love as God
loves. This spiritual love changes people’s hearts. Knowing that
God is only good and is the true Father and Mother, the governing
Principle, of all humanity, Jesus looked beyond the erring human
personality to discern the pure and perfect spiritual identity of an
individual. Jesus loved – deeply appreciated and acknowledged –
this true identity. When he met Zacchaeus, a corrupt tax collector,
Jesus loved him as God had created him, looking beyond his corrupt
behavior to perceive reality – Zacchaeus’ honesty and uprightness
(see Luke 19:2-8). This perfect love reached the heart of Zacchaeus
and changed his behavior. He pledged to return the money he had
taken unlawfully, recompense for the wrong he had done, and
reestablish his life on an honest foundation.

A Tillman man with an affinity for banging his head into things found
himself in trouble after he bit an officer during a visit to the emergency room
on Jan. 2.
A Tillman County deputy was dispatched to a residence in Manitou in
reference to a car accident, the affidavit states.
When he arrived, he spoke to a woman who showed him her vehicle,
which was damaged on the front right side.
The woman claimed that her husband, 35-year-old Michael Lee Lorah,
had driven the truck home from a friend’s house while he was intoxicated
and had caused the damage to the vehicle.
The deputy observed a large hole in the sheetrock on the house and saw a large scratch on Lorah’s face. He asserted that he did not drive the vehicle, and that the scratch was caused by his
wife, who had pushed him into the wall, also causing the damage to the sheetrock.
After Lorah’s friend told the deputy a story closer to his wife’s, he admitted to driving the vehicle
and said that he had hit a tree in front of the house. He added that he scratched himself and broke
the wall so his wife wouldn’t call the police.
At the jail, Lorah slammed his head down on the table, causing a cut on his forehead. The deputy
took him to the emergency room, but Lorah was just getting started.
He continually banged his head on things, kicked nurses and bit the deputy’s finger.
Police were finally able to restrain Lorah until he calmed down enough to be treated for his
injuries.

A Gotebo mother turned on the waterworks
when police searched her home and tried to downplay the amount of marijuana that was in her
house by telling them that it was just a little bit.
According to the affidavit, Kiowa County deputies served a search warrant at the women’s home
in the 800 block of Commercial Street in Gotebo
on Jan. 13. They knocked on the door and announced their presence a few times before Rachel
Magdalene Wooten, 29, came to the door.
Wooten was visibly upset and told police through
tears, “All I have is a little marijuana.”
Police asked her where the marijuana was and
she led them to the kitchen. She instructed the
deputies to open a drawer near the sink; they
found a container with a green leafy substance in it.
In a back bedroom, police found a large smoking device that had the word “pot” taped to it
in orange and black letters. In Wooten’s children’s bedroom, police found a smoking device
that smelled of burnt marijuana and had residue in it.
Police asked Wooten if there were any firearms in the house. She told them there was
one hanging up in the room between the living room and kitchen. Police found the gun and
discovered that it had a live round in the chamber. Wooten also told them there was an old
military-style rifle in the room that was not loaded.
Wooten agreed to speak to police. They asked her about the smoking device in her children’s room. She told them that she had smoked marijuana the night before and sleeps in
the room with the kids. She said she must have left it in there, but insisted that she smoked
the weed in the living room.
Police transported Wooten to jail. The green leafy substance found in her home field-tested positive for marijuana.
Wooten is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to
appear in court on Feb. 2, 2014.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Michael Wilson
Michael Lee Wilson was
pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m. on
Jan. 9, 2014, by lethal injection,
for the murder of his co-worker,
Richard Yost.
Michael Lee Wilson and Richard
Kevin Yost were employees at the
local Quik Trip together. Wilson
planned to rob the store with Billy
Alverson, Darwin Brown and
Richard Harjo two weeks prior to
the murder. Shortly after Yost began
his shift on Feb. 25, 1995, Yost was
surrounded by Wilson, Alverson,
Brown and Harjo. Yost was dragged
to the back room where he was beaten to death by an aluminum
baseball bat. Following the beating, Wilson took money from the
store’s safe and cash registers while helping several customers
check out. All of these actions were seen by Quik Trip’s surveillance
tapes.
Shortly after Wilson’s arrest, Wilson’s mother called the police
and directed them to evidence of the robbery that was located at
her home. Police also found the safe and other materials from the
robbery at Alverson’s house.
Prior to this case, Wilson was an accessory to murder in 1995.
While Wilson was in custody, he committed assault and battery
upon another inmate and got into several fi ghts with inmates.
“Michael Lee Wilson was sentenced to death by a jury of his peers
for the heinous beating of Richard Yost, who was simply doing his
job,” Attorney General Scott Pruitt said. “My thoughts and prayers
are with Richard’s family and friends.”

A Gracemont man was taken to
the Anadarko Municipal jail after he
punched an officer who was just trying
to help.
On Jan. 25, an Anadarko police officer
was dispatched to a residence in the 800
block of West Alabama due to a request
to check on the welfare of an individual,
according to the affidavit.
When the officer arrived, he spoke to
the reporting party, who pointed out a
man slumped over on a front porch. The
reporting party requested that the officer check on the man and make sure
that he was OK.
The officer walked up to the front porch where the man was
slumped over and after several attempts, was finally able to rouse
the intoxicated man from his liquor-induced slumber.
The officer assisted the man, later identified as Kyle Manley, 22,
to a seated position. He observed that Manley had bloodshot eyes,
smelled of alcohol and was unable to speak in clear sentences.
The officer asked Manley his name and, for some reason, this
pissed Manley off. Manley balled up his fists and began swinging at
the officer, hitting the officer a few times in his chest area.
The officer deployed his pepper spray and sent a couple bursts of
the spray to Manley’s eyes and face. He placed Manley on the ground
and despite Manley’s efforts to remain a free man, the officer was
eventually able to put the man in handcuffs.
Manley refused to stand up, but another officer arrived on the
scene and helped place the stubborn man in the patrol vehicle.
Manley was transported to jail and his eyes and face were “decontaminated” with lots of water.
Manley is being charged with battery and assault on a police officer and public intoxication. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on March 13, 2014.

A former Rogers County Commissioner who spent time in prison is in
trouble with the law again.
Deputies arrested Randy Baldridge
on Jan. 7.
Tulsa police say a witness has accused Baldridge of picking up runaway
boys and giving them drugs, sometimes
in exchange for sexual favors.
Someone else told police that Baldridge had given him methamphetamine and he later woke up naked in a
field.
TPD turned over the investigation
to Rogers County since the allegations
were centered there.
The Rogers County THUG task force
took him into custody. They say he had
a 16-year-old runaway from Tulsa with
him at the time.
The two were at a Rogers County
home where deputies say they found syringes in the boy’s backpack that tested
positive for containing methamphetamine.
Deputies say they got permission to
search Baldridge’s vehicle and found a
glass smoking device, several syringes
and a silver spoon, all with a white,
powdery substance on them that also
tested positive for meth.
They say all this was found less than
200 feet from the Tiawah Elementary
School.
An affidavit says
Baldridge admitted
supplying teenage
boys with meth, but
he first claimed he
bought it as a way to
keep the boys from
going into those
kinds of places.
It says he originally denied using
meth himself, but later admitted, with
tears in his eyes, that he did use it.
This appears to be a long downward
spiral from where Baldridge was when
voters elected him to be a Rogers County commissioner.
However, in 2007, a federal jury
found him guilty of money laundering,
mail fraud, obtaining money by fraud
and other counts and a judge sentenced
Baldridge to 37 months in federal prison.
The sheriff says when Baldridge was
released from prison, he came back to
Rogers County, got a job and things
were quiet until his office received these
recent complaints.
The affidavit says a second teenage
runaway boy has been at Baldridge’s
home many times, for long periods of
time, but he was dropped off at a Tulsa
house and deputies are still searching
for him.
Baldridge

Police arrested two men after a frantic woman called police
and told them that “two Mexicans were loading up her property on to a trailer.”
According to the affidavit, the call came during the night of
Jan. 21. A Cotton County deputy went to investigate the burglary in progress in Randlett near E. Avenue and Main Street.
When he arrived, he made contact with the victim, her husband and one of the suspects.
The deputy saw a truck with a trailer backed into the residence; on the trailer, there was a car and multiple piles of miscellaneous metal pieces on the sides of the trailer.
The deputy placed the suspect, 62-year-old Charles Clair
Hugar of Anadarko, in handcuffs and put him in the patrol car.
The victim advised that the other subject had run off on foot.
Not long after, a car pulled up to the residence and 41-yearold Riley Eugene Kosechata of Apache exited the back seat.
The victim identified him as the other suspect.
The deputy placed Kosechata in handcuffs and patted him
down. Kosechata advised that he had a warrant out of Cotton
County.
The deputy placed him in the patrol car and begin inventorying the suspects’ truck to see if there were any other stolen
items inside.
Nothing was found, and the two men were transported to jail.
Both men agreed to speak with police. Hugar told them that he received a call from
Kosechata about some easy work in Randlett scrapping some metal.
Kosechata told police that he had received a call from his cousin, who had given him
permission to get the metal and vehicle from the yard at the residence in Randlett.
Police contacted the cousin, who said that he told Kosechata he could get the scrap
metal behind his parents’ house, not the residence in Randlett.
Both men are being charged with grand larceny. Hugar was released on a $20,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 30, 2014.
Kosechata’s bond was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
Feb. 27, 2014.

Police say a man was taken to jail after he led them on an intoxicated chase through Altus on Jan. 17.
According to the affidavit, an Altus officer was on patrol when
he saw a vehicle traveling north on South Navajo with a defective
tag light.
The officer turned his vehicle around in an attempt to catch up
with the vehicle.
He initiated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle, but the
driver of the car had other plans.
The suspect vehicle accelerated and began driving around different streets and running multiple stop signs. He also sped past
a school during the chase.
The driver finally came to a stop, and the officers ordered the
driver, later identified as Joey Esquivel, 35, of Altus, to show his
hands. While placing Esquivel in handcuffs, an officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on
Esquivel’s person.
The officers conducted a search of Esquivel and found a small plastic baggie that contained
a green leafy substance that later field-tested positive for marijuana. An officer conducted
standard field sobriety tests on Esquivel and was able to determine that the man was indeed
intoxicated.
Esquivel then told police something to the effect of, “You can check my eyes and I’ll walk a
line for you, but I ain’t doin’ no breath or blood test.”
The officer asked Esquivel how much alcohol he had consumed. Esquivel told him “5 or 6
Crown and Cokes and a few beers.”
The officer placed Esquivel under arrest; not surprisingly, Esquivel refused to take the
state’s test.
During an inventory of the vehicle, officers found a firearm in the trunk of the vehicle. Dispatch advised that the firearm came back as stolen.
An officer asked Esquivel if he had ever been convicted of a felony, and he said yes.
Esquivel is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol,
attempting to elude a police officer and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He
was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 26, 2014.

February Is Teen Dating Violence
Awareness and Prevention Month
During this month, and at all times, parents need to be aware of
the issue of teen dating violence. For as much as domestic violence
among adults is an issue that is too often not discussed -- and too often kept a secret by the victim -- teen dating violence is even less discussed, and even less reported by victims. Nevertheless, in a recent
survey of over 4,000 9th through 12th graders, one in five reported
being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner.
The sad fact is that two out of three teens in an abusive relationship
don’t ever tell anyone about the abuse. For girls, when they experience serious sexual abuse they only report it to an authority figure six
percent of the time. This makes it very difficult to know when your
teen has become a victim of dating violence.
Still, there are warning signs that every parent and teacher can and
should look for. Because teenage years are difficult (and secretive)
enough as it is, it’s important to be aware of these warning signs, and
to approach your teen in a way that will make them feel comfortable
talking with you.
For more information, contact your local DHS.

James E. Finch, Special Agent in Charge of the Oklahoma City Field Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI), is providing the following public service announcement:
The public is advised there is currently a fraudulent
phone and e-mail scam targeting Oklahoma utility customers. Customers have received phone calls from individuals claiming to be with the utility company’s billing
department. The caller advises the customers they have a
past-due balance, and if they do not provide credit card or
bank account information, their service will be remotely
terminated.
Customers have also received e-mails stating their bill is
now available and that the amount owed is past due. The
e-mail instructs customers to click on an embedded link to pay the past-due bill. The public
is advised this is a fraudulent phone and e-mail phishing scam.
This type of fraudulent solicitation is not unique to utility companies, and similar scams
have been attempted using banks, government agencies, and numerous other legitimate
businesses. Individuals should not provide any information or click on the embedded links.
Individuals who receive suspicious or unsolicited phone calls or e-mails should contact their
service provider or the involved business directly to verify the validity of the request.
