A Lawton man apparently had no idea where he was going
when police found him wandering the streets of Newcastle.
John Dee Rogers, 49, was charged Sept. 19 with possession
of CDS in McClain County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Newcastle police
were called around 8 pm on Sept. 16 to the 3000 block of
Highway 37 in Newcastle on the report of a man walking in
and out of traffic. When officers arrived at the location, officers questioned the man, Rogers, and asked for his license.
A warrant check found he had four active warrants out for
Kay County.
While confirming the warrants, an officer asked Rogers if
he had anything illegal on him, or if he had anything that
would poke, cut, or stick him. Rogers replied that he did not,
and he could pat him down, adding he had nothing to hide.
During the pat-down, the officer found a small baggie with
a crystal-like substance on Rogers.
The warrants for Kay County were confirmed to be true, but Kay County did not want to
extradite him. Rogers was cuffed and transported to the Newcastle Police Department. The
officer field-testing the crystal substance and it tested positive for meth. He was then transported to the McClain County jail where he was booked on charges of possession of CDS.
Rogers pled not guilty at his initial appearance and bond was set at $5000.

CARRY FIREARMS after
convict/during propation
By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Well, the temperatures are
dropping, and fall is almost here,
and these things signal the start
of football season in Oklahoma! Not only have our major colleges
had their first home games, but all across the state, people are
traveling to and from football games from 4th graders on up to
high school. With that in mind, I wanted to re-visit a few tips to
make this football season safe.
Lets start with college. Whether you are a Sooner, Cowboy,
or Golden Hurricane fan, one thing is for sure...you aren’t
alone! There are thousands of fans for each home game
traveling to the stadiums. This volume of traffic demands your
consideration. First, if you can, leave early! The closer to game
time, the worse the traffic gets, so if you can, get to the stadium
early. There are plenty of things on a game day that are going on
prior to kickoff that you can spend your time enjoying. There are
usually lots of free stuff for the kids to do that make the whole game
day experience wonderful for them as well.
Second, be patient! You WILL run into traffic, so plan ahead,
and don’t get frustrated with it. Turn on the radio, listen to the pregame hype, and remember to be a safe, courteous driver. Getting
frustrated, and getting into a hurry, can result in a traffic accident
that will delay your arrival, and could end up being very expensive,
not to mention the potential for injury.
Last, be aware that there are usually some temporary traffic
control changes on game days. Both before and after the games,
law enforcement will be at intersections controlling the traffic
lights, and making adjustments to keep the traffic flowing in the
best possible manner. Be alert and aware, and recognize when and
where these temporary traffic controls are taking place.
Now, on to the local games! The biggest thing I remember from
growing up is that parents are usually running late to get to games,
because of what time they got off work. This has not changed...we
Troopers are stopping folks who are speeding trying to get to a kid’s
ball game all the time. While we understand, (we have kids too!)
we also see all too often what happens when accidents happen as
a result of unsafe speed. If you get stopped by us, you’re going to
be even later, and possibly on the hook for a hefty fine. If you get
involved in an accident, you may not make the game at all.
Finally, when you do get there, be a good fan! Cheer your team,
don’t denigrate the other team. Use appropriate language in the
stands; remember, there are kids of all ages in the stands with
you. We Oklahomans love our football, just remember to show
your support in a positive way! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and
be safe!
Tips from a Trooper

Frederick man Nathan Reed McDonald, 32, apparently wasn’t too
worried that he was arrested for shoplifting on September 4. When
officers took him to jail, he fell asleep for several hours.
According to the affidavit, a Frederick officer was dispatched to the
900 block of North Main due to a shoplifter at Dollar General. Employees directed the officer to the shoplifter; the officer could clearly
see merchandise sticking out of the man’s pocket.
The man identified himself as McDonald, and the officer told him
to place his hands on his head. During a pat-down search, the officer found pens and air fresheners in his pockets. He went to jail for
stealing merchandise worth $7.39.
On the way to jail, the officer noticed that McDonald started slurring his speech and was unable to sit up straight in the seat without falling asleep. The officer
asked him if he had taken any medication prior to his arrest; McDonald said no.
When they arrived at the police department, McDonald couldn’t walk up the stairs or follow simple directions. The officer asked him several more times if he had taken anything, and
he eventually admitted to taking “some tabs” earlier that morning.
He then went back to sleep.
The officer took him to the hospital, where he received an IV, fluids, and a reversal agent.
He was observed for several hours before being transported back to jail.
McDonald is being charged with larceny. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on October 3, 2014.

Jonathan Blake Buchanan must have liked the outside of
the jail so much he wanted to see the inside! The 20-yearold Hobart man was locked in a cell after police discovered
that he had rigged a contraband-delivering device outside
of a jail cell.
According to the police report, a jailer called a Kiowa
County deputy on September 20 and told him he thought
someone was trying to get contraband into the jail. He said
he had to shut one of the windows three or four times during his shift. The jailer said the inmates had made a stick
they could use to reach out of their cell and open the window. When the inmates opened the window, they would
throw a string or rope out the window with a sock attached
to the end so a person outside the jail could put something
in it. They would then pull the sock back through the window.
The deputy parked near the courthouse and started walking toward the Kiowa County
Jail. At 8:34 p.m., the jailer called the deputy and said the inmates had once again thrown
the rope and sock out of the window. As the deputy neared the jail, he saw a man wearing a
red T-shirt walk around the southwest corner of the jail.
At 8:37, the jailer called again and said the man in the red shirt had just put something
inside of sock and tugged the rope a few times.
The deputy chased after the suspect and found him walking north in the alley between
Jefferson Street and Main Street. He yelled, “Sheriff’s office, get on the ground!”
Then man took off running, but the deputy eventually found him trying to hide underneath a bush in someone’s backyard. He told the man to crawl toward him, cross his feet
and put his hands behind his back. As the deputy placed the suspect in handcuffs, he recognized him as Buchanan. The deputy searched Buchanan and found a smoking device with a
burnt residue and a chrome container with a white powdery residue.
He asked Buchanan what he put in the sock at the jail; Buchanan said it was just tobacco.
Buchanan is being charged with bringing contraband into jail/penal institution and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on October 29, 2014.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

An Amarillo, Texas, girl found herself in an Oklahoma jail after
she spit on a police officer.
She won’t be in Amarillo by morning!
On September 15, an Anadarko police officer was dispatched to
the area of Fourth and West Texas due to an intoxicated woman, the
affidavit states. When he arrived, he met 25-year-old Ashley Nicole
Stroup. Stroup was unsteady on her feet, smelled like alcohol, and
had slurred speech. The officer placed her under arrest for public
intox and transported her to the Anadarko Police Department.
When they arrived, he asked Stroup to exit the vehicle. She got
out of the car and started walking toward the door. She then quickly
turned around and jerked her head, trying to head butt the officer.
The officer placed her on the ground to gain control of her. She looked up at him, said, “F---
you,” and spit in his face.
He helped her to her feet and took her inside the building for booking. During booking, a
jailer found a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana
in her pocket.
Both the officer and Stroup went to the emergency room to be tested since Stroup decided
to unkindly share her saliva with the officer.
Keep your spit to yourself, Stroup!
Stroup is being charged with prisoner placing bodily fluid on government employee, possession of controlled dangerous substance and public intoxication. She was released on a
$5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 18, 2014.

A 35-year-old Lawton man was arrested in Cotton County
after he was caught riding around on a stolen ATV.
According to the affidavit, a man called police around 11 a.m.
and said he was following what he believed to be his stolen
Polaris, seven miles north of Highway 53. The deputy asked
the caller how he knew it was his. He said because of the color
and the cut bolts on the handlebars was where a gun rack was
mounted.
The deputy located the rogue rider and stopped the ATV.
He told the driver, Stanley Louis Gowen, 35, to get on the
ground. He placed him in hand restraints and helped him
to his feet. Gowen appeared to be disoriented and mumbled
when he spoke to the deputy. The deputy asked him if he knew
the ATV was stolen. Gowen shrugged his shoulders.
The deputy asked him where he got the ATV; Gowen said “in a not so clear voice” that he
got it in Fletcher from a track where people race motorcycles.
The questions continued, and Gowen continued to shrug and mumble. He said he was going to his girlfriend’s house but didn’t know her last name or address. The deputy asked him
if he knew the ATV was stolen. Gowen nodded but said, “I did not steal it.”
The deputy placed Gowen in his patrol car, and Gowen started to fall asleep.
The ATV’s owner said his ATV had been stolen the day before; he said he was working in
the fields when he saw Gowen drive by on his vehicle. The VIN number he had matched the
number on the ATV Gowen was caught riding.
The deputy transported Gowen to jail and again asked him where he got the ATV. Gowen
just shook his head and said, “I’m not telling you.”
The deputy asked him if he knew who stole it. He said he did, but he wasn’t going to tell
the deputy anything. The deputy then asked why he wanted to take the fall for someone else.
Gowen told him, “Because I have to…just charge me.”
You got it, Gowen!
Gowen is being charged with withholding stolen property. His bond was set at $5,000, and
he is scheduled to appear in court on November 13, 2014.

Six years ago, the remains of an unidentifi ed woman were
found in a shallow grave near Lake Thunderbird outside
Norman. The medical examiner’s offi ce believes the remains
are those of a white female, possibly with Native American
heritage, who was approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall and
between 30 and 45 years old. She also had given birth to at
least one child.
Due to the rate of decomposition, investigators believe she
had been in the grave between 3 and 12 months.
A distinct tattoo of a sunburst was on a large portion of her
back. Attempts to identify the woman through DNA have produced no results.
OSBI Forensic Artist Harvey Pratt reconstructed her skull to provide a likeness of the woman.
If anyone believes they may know who this woman might be, please call the OSBI hotline at

What you’re saying about this on...
Brian B: Legalize for adults 21 and over
Bob A: No logical reason to keep it illegal
Alissa W: Legal for all. Smoke a bowl and relax
Maria E: Well I for one say medical use only. No need to have people use who other
wise would never try it.
Lenis B: No way would I vote for it, we have enough problems.
Larry S: Oklahoma definitely needs the tax revenue. Public school system and infrastructure (i.e. roads and bridges) would be a major beneficiary so I say yes
Zach G: Don’t legalize, decriminalize.
Jean Ann W: Legalize then regulate like alcohol
Andy C: We sure do need the tax revenue!!! Let’s go ahead and add meth and prostitution too!! How about get more people to work....THAT would generate tax revenue.
Bunch of degenerates.
JoNelle B: I would vote no on legalization of marijuana. Flat out no
Charlene J: I would vote for it. I am a registered voter, and legalize it for 21 and
older and medicinal as need per age under doctors orders.
Chris Jo: Medical yes and I mean true medical not people who see this quack doc
and goes I have glaucoma write me a weed script. To all who says we need a tax revenue
what about all the gambling thing that hasn’t helped our kids or anything else in any way.
It will be worse when it is legal for all to smoke just look at what has happened in Colorado.
Yes you hear all about this and that that has been good but what about the bad that doesn’t
want to get published people we don’t need it legal for everyone. It’s not a smart thing
Katrina R: I hate how people say its better than other drugs and etc. Doesn’t matter its still bad and addictive. Just because it wouldnt hurt as bad to chop a finger off as it
would a leg doesn’t mean you should chop a finger off.
Nickel C: Vote yes for all uses......pain relief....makes you hungry when you dont or
cant eat....eases symptoms of seisures...plant form or oil...legalize it all!
Samantha LeeAnn E: I do not care to vote, but I would vote for this. I would
vote yes for all purposes.
Scott T: Legalize it. Regulate it like tobacco and alcohol. Make it a new tax revenue
that this state needs for its schools. No reason not to. Too much focus on it being illegal
anyway. Especially when a woman who has 30 bucks worth gets 12 years while a local police chief gets a 10 year deferred sentence for trafficking narcotics.
Charlotte G: The medical crap is all bologna aka bulls**t
Dustin G: Well seeing how Oregon and Georgia are about to make marijuana legal
for recreational use, I say yes. Colorado has already gave millions to schools and we could
use that money to build storm shelters for schools.
Mike M: I moved to colorado for the treatment of Lyme’s I hope it passed soon so I
can go home so yes I will vote and make a 12 hour drive to do it when it gets on the ballet
Isidro V: Kinda like the gas tax in oklahoma it was to help with bridges and road
work. But all roads and bridges suck here. It’s all talk anymore! Never used for what it is
intended in the first place.
Brian S: Legal or not. People are still going to grow it, smoke it, and sell it. I don’t
care for it personally, but some extra tax revenue and decriminalization might be worth it.
It would free up some space in the prisons for more violent crimes. Just a thought. There
are pros and cons both ways.
Michael M Jr.: Yes. It help me stop drinking and taking a lot of med. Oif/oef vet.
Joy N: I’ve never smoke in my life. 60 years of it but I still would vote yes. It has nothing to do with pot heads. Just like if the question was about drinking. I don’t drink but I
would vote yes.
Misty P: I don’t smoke it, but would vote yes to both. I don’t think it’s as bad as drinking. Oklahoma could us the tax money. Just make sure the money is handled properly.
Joey H: By saving up spaces in jails for actual violent crimes caused by ALCOHOL!!
Lol it would also save us tax payers money as you know we gotta pay to feed all prisoners
and your salary hang rapist, free the smokers, and jail the REAL criminals
Kimberly M: I would vote no.. I think they need to make tobacco illegal also. It
only hurts us. I cannot think of one good thing tobacco or marijuana does for us other than
make the state officials more money. Right now marijuana makes officials money by fines
but if legalized would really line their pockets.
Joseph P: 100 % yes I was recently arrested for having a small amount of weed in my
apartment I was kidnapped and held hostage overnight and my family extorted for almost
$1200 if this happened just a few hundred miles west in Colorado I would not have been
breaking the law and nothing would have happened
Leesa M: As a MS patient I will tell you that yes it does do people good just as good
as say the legal narcotics like loratabs.
Laci H: I’m sorry but I’d say alcohol is the “gateway drug”... But it’s legal so its more
socially acceptable..... And that legalize meth comment up there ^ made me laugh. You
have apparently never seen the difference in a person on meth, as opposed to weed. If you
had you wouldn’t have made such an ignorant comment….
Jennifer H: I am a registered voter! And I would vote yes! I don’t even smoke it
anymore! Haven’t even wanted to smoke it either! And I would vote yes in a heart beat !!!
Tyler H: People who say no are ignorant....but it’s ok to drink beer smoke cigs and
have a grand ole time....but pot oh no it’s a big no no...seeing how it’s never contributed
to one single death in recorded history....just because it has a bar code on it doesn’t mean
it’s not a drug...they are called gate way drugs for a reason you morons...(alcohol and tobacco)....not to mention the medical help pot provides....but you would rather stuff your
face full of little pills that can kill you....great thinking America....and I don’t even smoke it
but I’d damn sure vote it in if I was the deciding vote.....
Here’s a question for you...
If the legalization of marijuana issue came up for a vote, how would you
vote? Are you a registered voter, and
if not, would you register just so you
could vote? Would you vote for medicinal use only or all uses?

Proverbs 22:6 says
6 Train up a child in
the way he should go:
and when he is old,
he will not depart
from it.
Children have a
wonderful capacity
for trust. The faith
they put in adults is unqualified, and that should humble us; we often don’t
deserve it.
Sometimes kids suffer from intentional betrayal by a trusted adult, like
former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, recently convicted of
sexually abusing underprivileged young boys. Other times, they are neglected
by society at large, as are the 1.7 million children with a parent behind bars.
Many of these kids face enormous obstacles, but get little notice.
The Bible affirms that children are a central focus of God.
Our national problem is not that we somehow undervalue children; it’s
that we don’t always know where to look to find the children most in need
of our help. Inmates’ children in particular get placed on the back burner.
They grow up in single-parent homes, or they get shuffled into foster care.
They are five times more likely than their peers to live in poverty. They often
endure confusion, loneliness, depression, abandonment, social ostracism,
and profound anger. Should we be surprised if they often follow their
parents to prison?
It doesn’t take much to ease the burden of an inmate’s family. Churches—
and other people of good will—can incorporate prisoners’ children into their
existing programs, like VBS, youth mentoring programs, or summer camps.
They can make sure kids have the supplies they need to succeed in school, or
gifts to celebrate the holidays; the opportunities are boundless.
If we take seriously the notion that every child has inherent worth and
deserves our society’s nurture and protection, we cannot afford to ignore
children with an incarcerated parent. Like Jesus, we must reach out to them,
and their trust will for once not be betrayed. In turn we will discover that the
blessing goes both ways: They will teach us what it means to have faith that
pleases God, faith that presses in close, believing everything will be okay.

A young girl alerted a state trooper to a passed out Altus
man on September 10. The man was OK — he had just taken
too many drugs.
According to the affidavit, a state trooper was on patrol
on U.S. Highway 283 near Cypress Street in Altus, when a
young girl knocked on his passenger window around 10:45
a.m. She pointed at a vehicle and said, “There is a man passed
out in his vehicle back there.”
The trooper went to investigate and found 55-year-old
Brad Lee Dean hunched over in the driver seat. The vehicle
was running.
The trooper knocked on the window, but Dean didn’t respond. He then opened the passenger door and yelled at the
man. Dean sat up and said, “I am just waiting for my fiancée.”
The trooper noticed several small pills he recognized as Xanax in Dean’s lap. Dean appeared very drowsy and lethargic. He kept falling asleep while the trooper was trying to talk
to him.
The trooper asked him to exit his vehicle and have a seat in his patrol car. Dean appeared
unsteady on his feet and had trouble walking to the vehicle.
The trooper asked him if he had taken any of the Xanax. Dean said he took one the night
before. The trooper told Dean he seemed to be very tired. Dean said he was sleepy and waiting on his fiancée.
Dean kept falling asleep while in the patrol car, and he started rambling about the eye doctor when the trooper asked if he had any eye problems.
He continued to nod off. When he did speak, his words were bunched together and his
speech was slow, thick and repetitive.
The trooper administered sobriety tests and determined that Dean was indeed under the
influence of something. He placed the man under arrest and transported him to jail.
During booking, Dean told the jailed that he had taken Lortabs earlier in the day.
Dean is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs
and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on October 22, 2014.

Pom Pom: it’s what’s for dinner
Police call the relationship “toxic.” If the details of the
police report are accurate, folks won’t need much convincing.
Bear the Pomeranian disappeared in early August after the
dog’s owner and her then-boyfriend Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh
had an argument.
The woman fled her apartment after she was physically
assaulted by Watenpaugh, she told police in Redding,
California. When she returned, Bear was gone.
The couple, which police say had a tumultuous dating
relationship that included the woman being held against
her will, briefly reconciled the first week in September.
Watenpaugh, 35, cooked her a meal that included meat.
Then the text messages began.
“How’s your dog taste? I thought it was better with BBQ and those Hawaiian buns.”
“I guess u could bury what u didn’t eat.”
“The smile on my face when you read this … priceless,” KRCR reported.
Then early on Sept. 9, Watenpaugh showed up at the woman’s house and left a small bag
by her front door, police say. Inside was a note and two dog paws.
“Burn in hell,” the note says. “I hate you so much it hurts. Stay away from me. I want
nothing to do with you. F— you.” At the bottom of the note: a smiley face.
Redding police arrested him two days later. They say he’s admitted to sending the
messages and placing the dog paws at the woman’s residence, but has denied killing or
cooking Bear.
“You know this is extremely strange,” Redding Sgt. Todd Cogle told KRCR. “Unusual,
something we had never seen before.”
Watenpaugh has been charged with domestic violence, false imprisonment, stalking and
animal cruelty. He’s being held on $250,000 bail in the Shasta County jail.
