A Lawton teen was taken into custody in Grady County after he stole a
Mercedes in Lawton and led police on a
high-speed chase up I-44.
Aaron Rhodes, 18, was charged with
possession of a stolen vehicle, knowingly concealing stolen property, and
eluding a police officer, in Grady County
District Court.
According to the police affidavit, an
OHP dispatcher put out an alert to be
on the lookout for a white Mercedes
stolen from Lawton. A Grady County
deputy spotted a Mercedes matching
the description in the bolo that was heading north on I-44 near mile
marker 91. The deputy was not sure if it was the same Mercedes, but
it was decided to stop the vehicle and check.
When the deputy activated his emergency lights, the Mercedes,
driven by Rhodes, accelerated to over 130 mph.
The pursuit ended when Rhodes drove into a pickup truck at mile
marker 108 and lost control of the car. He swerved into the center cable barrier and traveled another 200 feet before coming to a
stop. Rhodes then got out of the car and ran across the southbound
lanes of I-44, all this during heavy morning traffic. He was chased
for about a half mile and eventually taken into custody in a field.
Officers found the debit card and social security card of a man in
Lawton during an earlier burglary, and it was discovered it had been
used shortly after the burglary.
Bond for Rhodes was set at $100,000 and he was ordered back to
court Oct. 1. Rhodes also faces several felony charges in Comanche
County, including two counts of burglary, first degree, larceny of an
automobile, and unauthorized use of a credit card.

stupid criminals
A Phoenix man attempted to rob two large businesses, first
an Ace Hardware and then a Safeway. He put his hand under
his shirt to look like a gun, but the cashier was not fooled and
calmly said “no” to his request for money. Equally unsuccessful was his attempt to rob a Safeway, which resulted in him
being escorted out of the building. According to Phoenix New
Times, he waited a few minutes before returning into the store
to snag a small breakfast sausage and was therefore charged
with shoplifting. I guess all that failing worked up an appetite.
A man in Riverfront was busted for buying some heroin and
a prostitute for the night. Doesn’t sound that unusual, right?
He used money he had stolen from his 4 year old nephew’s piggy bank. According to River front Times, the man was staying
with his sister and asked if he could borrow some of her son’s
money. She told him he could have two dollars, but he took all
$500. I’m thinking next Thanksgiving dinner could be tense.
In Seattle, a young man and woman attempted to steal six
beers from a gas station. Malt-liquor (what?) beers, to be exact. The male accomplished this by hitting the store clerk over
the head with a ukulele, breaking the instrument and cutting
the victims scalp. According to Seattle Weekly, the suspects
had fled by the time the police arrived on the scene. Silently,
unfortunately.
A man in Chicago was feeling hungry, so he decided to rob a
Subway franchise. Of course, the plan wasn’t complete without
added complications. This one came in the form of a Halloween disguise—a ghost costume, to be exact. According to Huffington Post, he almost succeeded in holding up the restaurant,
until another employee threw hot soup at him. I didn’t even
know Subway offered that as a menu item, but thank goodness
they do.
If there’s one thing rarer than common sense, it’s common
courtesy. Luckily this guy at least has the latter. A man supposedly the age of thirty decided to rob a bank inside of Kroger (as
politely as possible). A security camera took an exceptionally
clear picture of him tipping his baseball cap to the teller who
was being “so kind as to help him rip off the place”. According to Houston Press, he was able to finish the robbery and
escape. But probably not before wishing everyone in line a
splendidly jolly day.

On June 17, 2007, 73-year-old Rosemary Wolfe was found shot
to death inside her Langley home by her husband. The Medical
Examiner’s Offi ce ruled she died of several gunshot wounds.
The Mayes County Sheriff ’s Offi ce requested OSBI help investigate
the death. Since then, agents have conducted numerous interviews
and collected evidence in the case.
Investigators believe they know what happened to Ms.
Wolfe. However, they need a few more pieces of evidence/
information in order to resolve the case. OSBI hopes someone with that information will come
forward to help solve the case and allow her family some peace. Since her death happened on
Father’s Day – that day is an especially diffi cult one.
Wolfe’s family is off ering up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of
the person responsible for her death.
If anyone has any information on this case, please call the OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017.

A 21-year-old Grandfield man
was arrested on August 18 after he
allegedly raped a woman and set a
house on fire.
Not a good day for William Dewayne Jones.
A woman contacted the Tillman County Sheriff’s Department
around 2 a.m. on August 18. According to the police report, she
told them that Jones raped her in
an alley behind the 100 block of W.
Second Street in Grandfield. She
said the sex was not consensual,
and he forced her to have sex by
knifepoint.
Police observed several shallow lacerations around her neck and
chest area.
A deputy found Jones around 3:40 a.m. and placed him under arrest for the rape.
But, that wasn’t all.
Around 2 a.m. on the same day, a man told police that someone
had used an unknown type of accelerant to set his house on fire.
Luckily, the man was able to put out the fire before any major damage occurred. The home was occupied by the man, his wife and his
two children at the time of the incident.
When Jones was arrested for the rape, he “made a spontaneous
statement indicating that he was responsible for starting the fire,”
according to the affidavit.
Jones later told police that he intentionally started the fire by
dousing the outside walls in diesel fuel oil and lighting the house on
fire. He said his intent was to kill the man living in the house.
Jones is being charged with first-degree arson and first-degree
rape. He is being held on a $250,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on September 24, 2014.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Police were called on August 31 after a Hobart family had
had enough. According to the police report, a Hobart man just
couldn’t seem to leave the family alone.
A Hobart police officer was dispatched to the 700 block of
Main Street around 12:57 p.m. due to a disturbance involving
36-year-old Kelly Lee Brown. The reporting family told the officer that Brown had just left their home. They said he had been
harassing them, and the last time he came over, he walked in
the house and threatened them with a knife. A woman said she
sprayed him with pepper spray to get him to leave.
The woman explained that Brown’s cousin owned the house,
and he gave them permission to stay there. Brown apparently
wasn’t too happy about that, and he had been harassing the
family for several days. She also alleged that Brown kept getting in bed with their teenage daughter.
The woman said Brown came to the house around 9 a.m., covered in blood, and yelled at
them to get out of the house and leave the area. A man living at the home told him to leave.
Brown told them they would pay.
Brown then started sending the women threatening text messages and came back to the
house later, walking in with a knife. That’s when the woman said she pepper sprayed him.
The officer made contact with Brown. His face, eyes, neck and chest were very red, and he
was complaining about hurting. He told the officer, “That crazy bitch sprayed me with pepper
spray and I want her arrested.”
The officer asked why, and Brown told him “Those people should not be in that house and
I was trying to get them out.”
Brown denied sending threatening text messages, and said the man living at the home beat
him up the night before. The officer asked him why he didn’t call the police, and Brown told
him his phone wasn’t working.
According to dispatch though, Brown called at least three times on the regular line wanting
an officer. When the officer asked Brown about the calls, Brown didn’t say anything.
Brown is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. His bail was set at $5,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 9, 2014.

Not only was Anadarko woman
Alana Rachel Black, 33, drunk and
unfit to drive when she was pulled
over on August 20, she was also angry and liberal with her use of expletives toward the arresting officer.
According to the affidavit, an
Anadarko officer saw Black’s vehicle
around 9:20 p.m. driving west on
East Central. The vehicle’s headlamps were not on; only the fog lamps
were illuminated. The officer pulled
over the vehicle in the 500 block of
East Central Boulevard.
He made contact with Black and asked her for her driver’s license.
She replied in slurred speech, “You know I don’t have a f**king license.”
The officer noticed the odor of alcohol coming from inside Black’s
vehicle. He asked her how much alcohol she had consumed. She told
him a few beers.
The officer checked her information and confirmed that she didn’t
have a valid driver’s license. He asked her to step out of the vehicle.
When she did, he saw that she was unsteady on her feet.
Sobriety tests confirmed that Black was not sober, and the officer
placed her under arrest.
She told him “F**k you,” and called him an “a**hole.” Undeterred
by Black’s hurtful words, the officer transported her to jail.
Black is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol. She was released on a $5,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 19, 2014.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
All over the state, kids are either
already back in school or about to
start, so what better time to talk
about bus and school zone safety? Everyone either has a child
starting, going back to school, or knows someone who does. We all
want to look out for the welfare of our young students, so I’ll touch
on a few items to refresh your memories about school zones and
school buses.
First, lets talk about school bus safety. One of the violations I
see most is drivers going the opposite direction not stopping for
a school bus that has its red flashers and stop sign out. I can
only assume that these drivers believe that those stop indicators
are only for the vehicles following the school bus, but this is not
true. Oklahoma State Statute Title 47-11-705 states:
The driver of a vehicle meeting or overtaking a school bus that is
stopped to take on or discharge school children, and on which the
red loading signals are in operation, is to stop the vehicle before
it reaches the school bus and not proceed until the loading signals
are deactivated and then proceed past such school bus at a speed
which is reasonable and with due caution for the safety of such
school children and other occupants.
An exception to this would be on a divided roadway where there
is a separation of the lanes of travel, such as a divided four-lane
highway. The drivers on the opposite side of the road do not have
to stop in this situation, but the drivers on the same side must stop
as stated. Again, this is only for highways that are divided by a
median, cable barrier, concrete barrier, etc. This is not applicable
for an undivided multi-lane highway. On that occasion, all traffic
must obey the bus loading signals.
Next, lets tackle the school zones. All a school zone does is reduce
the speed limit at certain times of the day. These times are when
there is a presence or potential presence of school children. What
this means is, just because you don’t see children out on the
playground, or outside the school building, does not mean the
school zone is not in effect, because the potential presence of
children is taken into account. The way a driver is notified of an
active school zone is with the flashing yellow lights attached to the
appropriate warning signs for the school zone. If a driver is cited
in a school zone, the fine doubles.
As safe and courteous drivers, we should always be looking out
for each other on the roadways, and a potential fine shouldn’t be
our motivation, but the safety of others as well as ourselves, and
especially for our youngsters. Remember, their safety is in your
hands; lets do our part to make this a safe and sound school
year. Thanks for reading, buckle up and please drive safe!

What you’re saying about this on...
Brian G: Legalize steroids, same amount of deaths as weed and steroids won’t make
you sound like a half asleep pothead
Toni L: Brian maybe you need to do some research steroids do hurt and kill people.
They have very dangerous side effects unlike weed.
Brandi W: I think it really wouldn’t matter which drugs are legalized or not, people
will find a way to abuse, take, sell, make or even trade drugs if they want to! I for one don’t
think I’m in charge of anybody else’s actions or wants.. I say to each their own just don’t
bring others down for your own actions! Be responsible..
Becky P: they use to use it for medical reasons in the old days...legalize it and get the
tax from it...steroids will kill you eventually...go after the meth heads
Brandon H: Legalize bud it never hurt a soul
Jon W: Legalize weed
Sha’Meka M: Steroids can kill you n make you do things ... Legalize Mary Jane..
She’s cool ppl
Gary H: Maybe synthetic weed. Steroids claimed a whole family in Chris Benoit’s
case. If you don’t mind disappearing testicles and the end to your sex life, enjoy......
Andrea G: They gotta get to Rehab, But they say No No No!
Mike B: Tighten control of Prescription drugs . They cause more problems.
Jason H: Free the weed. !!! Unburden the prison industrial complex
Tamara T: Concentrate on where the drugs are coming from. I know in Garvin Co
a lot of the same people that were dealing 18 years ago when I was in high school are still
the main dealers around. Quit making deals with them.
Mallori D: Marijuana should be legalized. Others drugs like cocaine or meth should
not be. I don’t agree with throwing these people in jail and them serving time longer than
people who have killed/rape. These people should be given help. There a lot of people who
use marijuana and don’t go out and kill, rob or lose their job because of it. It’s time the baby
boomers start letting my generation make these choices. It will happen eventually.
Renee M: You get more time for marijuana than drunk driving or being a cook or
tweek. A little backwards. Oh yeah and all because they thought they could win the war on
drugs. Which will never happen..
Alissa W: I have Fibromyalgia. We have very low options to control our pain. It just
so happens marijuana does great things for our pain, and coming off of it is a lot easier
than coming off of narcotics where it all of a sudden wears off and you are in more pain
than before. I think medical marijuana would do great things in our state. Also I think that
if you are a first time offender of drugs and alcohol you should go to involuntary rehab. If
you have kids you shouldn’t get “special treatment” by no means. I believe narcotics and
meth and heroine are more of an issue than pot. Narcotics cause more harm to yourself
and others.
Merrenda L: Colorado is a debt free state and has been. No one has broke out and
caused riots and crime has actually went down. When it comes to pot, make it legal and
follow colorado. Get our state debt free and tax the hell out of it. Use the money for schools
and roads.
Molly E: There is a definite drug problem in Oklahoma, but I believe incarceration
is not the only solution. Jail time will punish drug users/abusers, but it will NOT address
the underlying problem. As soon as they are released, they will go right back to using. We
need to invest more in rehabilitation than punishment. Addiction should be treated as an
illness, not a crime. These people are mothers, fathers, siblings, friends. They’re not monsters because they lost control. They just need help.
David T: Legalize marijuana it hasn’t killed anybody unlike prescription drugs,
meth, alcohol, or any other man made drugs. They need to be more strict on these meth
heads and drunks who take ppls lives on a daily basis instead of a slap on the wrist and send
them on their way. I’ve had to many family members and friends killed by a drunk driver
or somebody under the influence of meth
Lisa H: There are many benefits to making pot legal. Not only for medicinal issues,
but tax dollars added in to our economy as well. No, the judicial system has been messed
up for years. People caught with pot get more time than kiddy rapists! No one comes out of
the womb saying they want to become an addict. Meth has destroyed millions of lives. But
until we as a society, can accept the fact that some people are simply broken and looking
for a way to relieve their pain, drugs, alcohol, etc. will be abused. Send the first timers to
drug rehab. After that, jail time.
Jason S: Alcohol is already legal, now pot should be. Ive seen more problems though
through presciption drugs by far.
Maria E: Well unfair if the pot heads can have mary jane give the dope heads cocain
and ice ... get my point not fair to give some what they want and not others what they want..
if you legalize one legalize all. I’m against any including pain meds because ameicans have
learned to say there back hurts get oxy and instead of fixing the “problem” they claim to
have they keep popping there pills or better yet sell to the pill poppers and buy there weed,
meth ect..
Joel R: the biggest problem i see is corruption in the police and sheriff”s departments/offices.
Dillen G: I’d say the problem isn’t the drugs. Now bear with me, I don’t condone the
use or cultivation of any drug. The PROBLEM, however, is these gun toting punk kids and
the wars they wage for the people who supply them. Did you know on the black market,
the “product” that flows the most, is laundry detergent. Something completely legal is being sold in underground markets just like these drugs. Why? Because the drugs aren’t the
problem, but they are contributing factors nonetheless. Legalizing won’t get rid of these
organizations underground. It may dampen them, and make it harder for them to make
money, but it won’t stop them. When you get down to brass tax, it’s lazy people trying to
make a paycheck. These “gangsters” are pawns for individuals who go unnoticed or unfound because of the loyalty these pawns have for them. They just reel in the cash.
Chuck C: Alcohol does need attention but again it’s effects are scientifically measurable and marijuana doesn’t since it has different levels THC but I’m sure that will change.
Preston S: That whole question as to whether they should be more lenient on women
than men, is just simple minded. An “abuser” is just that, an “abuser.” Whoever runs this
page, should probably have their questions examined by a panel of people before posting.
Okjailbirds: Preston S: It is Senate Bill 1278, so I guess the question was examined before we posted. Men are left out of this bill. http://www.oksenate.gov/.../press.../

Tucker W: Too many prescription drugs. Every time I go to a doctor they want to
fix it with a pill. What happened to curing something rather than masking the pain?????
Jesse C: As simple as we would like to make the solution to our state’s drug issues
sound, they are extremely complicated. No simple one liner answer will work. Drugs are
a temporary answer to a long term problem. Until we as a society decide to face the issues
instead of escape, we will have a drug issue, legal or illegal.
Here’s a question for you...
How do think the current drug problem in Oklahoma should be solved?
Things to ponder:
• Is there a drug problem at all?
• Do drugs need to be legalized? Which drugs?
• Do all drug abusers need to go to jail? What about recreational drug users?
• Do drug abusers/users need help instead of jail time? What about those who
don’t want help?
• Should judges be more lenient with women
and harsher on men? What about those who
have children (women and men)?
• Do you think our system is fair and just? If
not, what seems to be the problem?
Sorry we could not print all responses;
thanks to all who contributed.

Family tradition!
The wild Sniders were shut down after a family argument led to three of them being arrested on August
15.
Cotton County deputies were dispatched to the 300
block of North Commercial in Temple around 12:33
p.m. to deal with the Snider family. According to the
affidavit, one of the deputies cautioned that the family could be verbally abusive and threatening if they
didn’t get their way.
When the deputies arrived, the family told him that
the grandmother wanted her grandson, Emanuel Elmer Snider, 43, out of her house, and the grandson
threatened to burn the grandmother’s house down.
The deputy said he couldn’t make the grandson
leave the place of residence.
Two other family members, Heather Jean Snider,
19, and Sherry Delrose Snider, 38, both of Duncan,
started yelling and asked the deputy why he couldn’t
arrest the man for threatening to burn the house
down.
Before the deputy could reply, the man said, “If I
was going to burn this f------ house down, I would
have done it before I left.”
The two women began yelling and cursing at police. When a deputy asked Heather to calm down, she
replied, “F--- you. Take his ass to jail, you worthless
piece of s---.”
Sherry then said, “If you f------ are not going to
make him leave, I will get my gun and make him leave
myself.”
The deputies kept asking the women to calm down,
but they refused. When one of the deputies tried to arrest Heather, Sherry told him, “If you attempt to cuff
her, I will punch you in the face.”
When a deputy placed Heather in cuffs, Sherry kept
her word and hit him in the face with a closed fist
twice.
When another deputy stepped in to help, she hit
him in the face too.
After a brief struggle, both women were in handcuffs. Emanuel Snider was also arrested.
Heather Snider is being charged with obstructing an
officer and resisting an officer. She was released on a
$1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
February 17, 2015.
Sherry Snider is being charged with two counts of
assault and battery on police officer. She was released
on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on September 25, 2014.
Emanuel Snider is being charged with disturbing
the peace. He pled guilty and is scheduled to appear in
court on January 15, 2015.

An Altus man was taken into custody after
he pointed a shotgun at another man in a cab.
Jeffrey Taft, 42, was charged Aug. 25 with
feloniously pointing a firearm and carrying a
firearm while under the influence, in Jackson
County District Court.
According to the affidavit, the victim told
police he, another man, and Taft were in a
cab heading home. When they dropped off
Taft, he said something to the victim about
the victim’s wife. The victim got out of the cab
to confront Taft, but the other man convinced
him to get back into the cab. Both men then saw Taft standing on his
front porch pointing a rifle at them.
Officers then went to Taft’s home and found him standing on the
front porch holding a beer. He tried to go back inside the house and
refused to comply with the officers’ orders. One officer had to kick the
door open. Taft still refused to comply with commands and resisted,
so the officers wrestled him to the ground where he was cuffed.
The gun, a shotgun, was found inside the house and seized as evidence.
Taft’s bond was set at $5000 and he was ordered back to court for
his preliminary hearing Oct. 14.
