Hoffman
A Lawton police officer was placed under arrest after his superiors found him under the influence of alcohol while on duty.
Gabriel Hoffman, 26, was charged August 10 with APC in Comanche County District Court.
According to reports, Hoffman showed up to work late on August 9 citing personal reasons. A short time later, after he had
arrived for duty, his supervisors needed to speak with him, and
they found him in his parked car at about 1:45 am. While they
were speaking to Hoffman, one of the supervisors noticed he
smelled like alcohol, had slurred speech, and was believed to be
under the influence.
A field sobriety test was performed and Hoffman was placed
under arrest for actual physical control because he was in the
driver’s seat and the vehicle was drivable. The supervisors had
not see Hoffman driving the vehicle.
Hoffman was taken to the police station where a breath test came back with a .23 BAC, according to reports.
Hoffman was booked into the Lawton City Jail and was then transported to the Comanche
County Detention Center. Hoffman pled not guilty at his arraignment and posted $1,000
bond.
Reports state Hoffman was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of his
court proceedings.

There is a saying that all good
things must come to an end. I
would like to think that my
monthly Tips From a Trooper articles have been a good thing, and
hopefully put some good information out there. Alas, this will be
my final installment of Tips. A new chapter has opened up in my
career as an Oklahoma State Trooper, and I will be taking on a
new assignment. It took a lot of thought and prayer to come to the
decision to take on my new assignment, and I thought that process
was worthy of some consideration in this final Tips.
When this opportunity presented itself, obviously it was
something that could not be decided spur of the moment. Usually,
when faced with new opportunities, we can experience either
apprehension or excitement initially. Decisions shouldn’t be made
in either of these conditions. A good piece of advice that I received
a long time ago is to sleep on it. If you have time, and we usually
do, take that time, and see how you feel about the issue 24 hours
later. If you still feel excited, or apprehensive, then those feelings
should be further explored!
A great thing to do when you have a tough decision to make is
the old pros and cons list. This tool is invaluable, and was for me
in my decision! Gather as much information as you can to help
you in making this list. If you have one side of the ledger that is
overwhelmingly longer than the other, then you should seriously
consider what that means, and perhaps decide accordingly!
Talk to your family! Many decisions not only affect you, but your
family as well, so you should get their take on it. Be sure and run
down those pros and cons as they may be able to add to the list. It
is important to have your family involved in those big decisions, as
they will be supporting you whichever way you decide.
Last but not least, pray. I don’t intend this to be a religious
stance, but it is part of who I am, and prayer helped me immensely
in this decision. Whatever your belief system is, seek guidance
through prayer.
After going through this process, I decided to accept an assignment
in the Office of Professional Standards within the Oklahoma
Highway Patrol. Taking this assignment was made much easier
knowing that Troop K and Payne County would be in good hands
with the current Command Staff in Troop K. Thankfully, no move
is required, so my family and I will continue to be part of this great
community! I would like to thank each and every one of the people
I have worked with, both OHP and other agencies. I would also like
to thank everyone who came up and said they enjoyed my articles,
you don’t know how much that meant to me!

Please research potential hunting properties
and guides/outfitters before handing over your

law enforcement. If you suspect a guide or outfitter is taking you hunting on property they do
not have permission to hunt on, report them to

Roosevelt man Michael Montgomery, 57, was
arrested August 22 after he shot his son during
an altercation. He said it was an accident.
According to the affidavit, Kiowa County deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of South
Main due to a shooting shortly after 5 a.m. A
woman had called police and said her husband,
identified as Montgomery, had just shot her son
and they were on the way to the hospital.
A deputy went to the hospital to speak to the
victim.
The victim said Montgomery and his mom were arguing, and
Montgomery shot him when he came to his mother’s aid. His mom
told police her husband had been out drinking the night before. She
woke up around 4 a.m. to get ready for work. When she went to grab
her purse, she saw Montgomery standing in her room with a gun.
They started arguing, and her son came to see what was going on.
Montgomery started verbally assaulting the victim, so the victim
told him, “Why don’t you just shoot me?” So Montgomery did.
Police went back to the home and arrested the suspect.
Around 8:13 a.m., Montgomery agreed to speak to police. He said
he left his house the night before around 8 p.m. to go have a drink.
He drank about 12 beers before returning home.
When a deputy asked him about his ability to drive after 12 beers,
he changed his story to 8 beers, then 4.
Montgomery said he was sitting in his chair when he heard his wife
and son yelling at one another. He put the gun in his waistband and
went to see what was going on. He said his son lunged at him, so he
pulled the gun out and shot him. Montgomery said he didn’t mean to
shoot his son, but it wasn’t the first time his son had hurt him, and he
wasn’t going to let him do it again.
Police spoke to the victim when he was released from the hospital
later that day. He told officers the same account that his mom did. He
also told police it wasn’t the first time his dad pointed a gun at him.
Montgomery is being charged with shooting with intent to kill. He
was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on November 12, 2015.

After a Grandfield woman crashed
her car while under the influence on
August 16, she lied to the officer about
her name because she didn’t want him
to know she had just gotten out of jail.
Unfortunately for 29-year-old Jennifer Lynn Hacker, her dad came to the
scene and told the officer the truth.
A state trooper responded to a single
vehicle rollover crash on SH-36 approximately one mile west of Chattanooga at approximately 2:30 a.m.
When he arrived, he found an upside
down car. The driver was still inside,
but she told him she was OK.
Once the driver was out of her vehicle, the trooper had her take a
seat in his patrol vehicle. The woman was “hyperactive, sweating, and
talking excessively,” according to the police report. She started messing with her purse and pulling stuff out of it.
The woman didn’t have a driver’s license, but she told the trooper
her name was Jade.
Later, while the trooper was filling out an accident report, the woman called someone -- apparently the person she was talking to was
named Jade. Of course, this raised the trooper’s suspicions, and they
were confirmed when the woman’s father arrived on scene. When he
asked the dad what his daughter’s name was, the man identified her
as Hacker.
The trooper asked the woman why she lied. Hacker told him that
she didn’t want him to know that she had just been in jail for a possession charge.
The trooper placed her under arrest and took her to jail.
Hacker is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of drugs and obstructing an officer. She was released on
a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 7, 2016.
Father knows best When a mugger tried to rob her friend, 92-year-old Eileen Mason just
had her mobility scooter – and her no-nonsense attitude.
Eileen and 75-year-old Margaret Seabrook, both from Swindon, Wiltshire, England, were returning home from a lunch club meeting when a
thief appeared from behind a fence and eyed up the contents of Margaret’s basket.
But the robber didn’t know who he was dealing with.
‘Oh no you don’t!’ was Eileen’s battle cry as she accelerated on her
scooter.
The would-be thief ‘went flying’, said Eileen, who has four children, 10
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
‘We went through the war and all the bombings. We won’t let a weasel
like that hold us back.’
Crocs plastic shoes left tread marks that helped link a 22-year-old
Fairbanks man to downtown burglaries, authorities said.
The owner of a building where some break-ins occurred provided surveillance footage to police, who posted it on the department’s Facebook
page. Roland Huntington Grace name was among several mentioned by
tipsters, according to authorities.
According to the court documents, Grace wore Crocs during a police
interview and the shoes matched the tread pattern found at the scene.
Grace faces charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief in connection with the burglaries reported earlier this month, the Fairbanks Daily
News-Miner newspaper reported.
Online court records don’t have an attorney listed for him. Charging
documents say Grace admitted to the burglaries.
The owner of The Crepery reported on April 1 that someone stole about
$400 from a cash register after breaking into the restaurant. A minister
at the Church of Christ reported April 2 that someone stole about $30
after prying open several locked doors. Another burglary at The Crepery
was reported April 3, with $5 in change taken. A worker at the art gallery
across the hall told responding police that there was a burglary at that
shop as well, and that $1,000 of artists’ jewelry was taken.
According to authorities, two necklaces matching the description of
jewelry taken from the gallery were recovered from Grace.

Carmona crashed into a cable barrier on I-44 while allegedly under
the influence of something. The
18-year-old was taken to jail after
police determined he was not fit to
drive.
According to the police report, a
state trooper responded to the single vehicle collision at Mile Marker
7. The driver, later identified as
Carmona, seemed to be confused
and disoriented. When the trooper
asked him for his driver’s license,
he noticed Carmona’s reflexes were
slow and his responses were delayed.
Carmon told the trooper he thought he ran over something before
hitting the cable barrier. The man’s eyes were red and his speech was
thick and slurred. He gave the trooper his driver’s license.
The trooper asked him to have a seat in his patrol vehicle. Carmona
was unsteady on his feet as he walked toward the car. When he saw
the trooper had his license, he said, “You found it!”
The trooper decided to administer sobriety tests, but noticed the
man’s shoes weren’t all the way on. Carmona was unable to get them
on or tie them. Eventually the man’s shoes were on, but that didn’t
help anything. He still failed the sobriety tests.
The trooper placed him under arrest.
During inventory of the man’s vehicle, the trooper found a piece of
tin foil containing a burnt substance.
Carmona is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of intoxicating substances. He was released on a $5,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 17, 2016.

49-year-old Vienna Lou Gamez must have been feeling
lucky on the night of August 25. The Anadarko woman was
arrested after she refused to leave a local casino. That penny machine might’ve been hot!
According to the police report, a BIA officer was dispatched to the casino shortly after 11:30 p.m. because a
woman was refusing to show security her identification
and refused to leave the casino. When the officer told Gamez she needed to leave the casino, she told him she wasn’t
going anywhere because she didn’t do anything wrong.
The officer explained that since she refused to show security her ID, she needed to leave. Gamez retorted that security needed to show
their identification to her.
When the officer told her she was going to jail if she didn’t leave, she then told
him that she needed to see his ID.
The officer warned her again, but Gamez said she didn’t have to leave and started to walk back into the casino.
The officer grabbed Gamez’s wrist and told her she was going to jail -- she then
agreed to leave.
Or so the officer thought. He let her go, and she tried to walk back into the casino again!
The officer started to place her into handcuffs and Gamez freaked out. She
started screaming for help and yelled that the officer wasn’t the “real police.” She
stepped on the officer’s feet and and scratched his hand.
Gamez also peed on the officer’s boots and in the patrol car. She kept yelling for
help and started kicking on the door.
The officer transported her to jail, where she wouldn’t have the option to leave.
Gamez is being charged with disturbing the peace and resisting an officer. She
was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November
12, 2015.
But she was feelin’ lucky!

Altus man Leslie Ray Stickney, 31, was arrested August 22 for
taking his, um, little friend out in public.
A woman was traveling down North Park Lane when she saw
a man sitting on a wall that led into the city park. Nothing out
of the ordinary, except the man’s plaid pants were pulled down
around his knees. The woman then realized she could see the
man’s penis and he was masturbating -- in public!
As the victim drove by the man, she saw him put his head down
and pull his plaid shirt over his genitals. As soon as she had driven by him though, he brought it back out and started going at it
again.
She immediately contacted the police and alerted them to the
plaid-clad man.
According to the police report, an Altus officer made contact
with the man in the 100 block of North Park Lane at approximately 3:38 p.m. Stickney was
just sitting on the wall directly under the airplane with his pants partially pulled down. As
soon as he saw the police, however, he pulled his pants up.
Stickney told the officer that he was walking to his dad’s house and he started to get hot. So,
he stopped to cool off and apparently let his junk be free in the summer air. He was placed
under arrest and transported to jail.
Stickney is being charged with lewd exhibition of person. His bond was set at $25,000, and
he is scheduled to appear in court on October 20, 2015.
