STATE NARCOTICS BUREAU INVESTIGATION TARGETS METH
TRAFFICKING NETWORK IN SW OKLAHOMA, NORTH TEXAS
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics has
concluded an 8-month investigation focusing
on a large meth trafficking operation.
On Thursday, July 25th, OBN, along with
federal, state and local officers served 21 arrest warrants throughout Lawton and parts of
north Texas for individuals tied to the investigation.
“This investigation began in November of
2018 after receiving information about individuals trafficking and distributing large quantities of methamphetamine throughout Lawton, Oklahoma and the Wichita Falls, Texas
area. During the investigation, we identified
approximately 21 individuals connected to
the movement and sales of meth,” said Mark Woodward, OBN Spokesman.
Woodward says the main target of the investigation, Joshua Watts, 41,
would routinely procure and control the distribution of between two and 10
pounds of meth at any given time. Watts was arrested by OBN Agents on
July 3rd for a felony of knowingly concealing stolen property. At the time of the
arrest, Watts was in possession of approximately a quarter-pound of methamphetamine and a firearm. Watts is currently being held on a $1M bond in
the Comanche County Detention Center.
“This case is a perfect example of law enforcement agencies coming together to ensure our communities are kept safe. The individuals targeted in
this investigation, if gone unabated, could poison entire communities with
their illicit drugs. OBN will continue working with our law enforcement partners
to ensure a positive quality of life for our citizens,” John Scully, OBN Director,
said.

Duncan man facing assault charges
A 58-year-old Duncan man was arrested after
he allegedly threatened his family with an AR15.
According to the police report, Duncan officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000
block of N. Grand on the evening of July 20. A
neighbor had called 911 and said a woman was
on the porch screaming for someone to call 911
because a man had a gun in the house.
While they were on their way to the scene, a
woman called 911 and said that her mother’s
boyfriend, later identified as Michael Lee Miller,
was holding a gun to her mother’s head. There
were also children inside the home.
When officers arrived at the home, two women were standing in the front yard. They advised
that Miller was in the back bedroom with a gun.
Officers yelled at the man to come out with his hands up. Miller started
cussing and screaming at the officers from the bedroom. He walked out into
the hallway and approached the officers. They told him to get down on his
knees. Instead, he continued to yell and walk toward them.
When it was obvious the man wasn’t stopping, one of the officers deployed
his pepper gun, hitting Miller in the chest and face. Miller stopped, but he still
refused to put his hands up or get down on the ground.
Another officer fired his pepper fun, hitting the man twice in the face. Miller
turned around and went back to the bedroom.
Officers continued to command the man to come out with his hands up.
One of the officers looked in the back bedroom window and saw that Miller
had an AR-15 next to him. They continued to yell at him, until the man finally
dropped to his knees. Officers entered the residence and found Miller lying
face down on the floor. They placed him under arrest.
The AR-15 was loaded and had a round in the chamber. Officers also found
a loaded pistol in the room.
Miller is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and obstructing officer. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on September 11, 2019.

Police said two burglars struck a Texas store that sells high-end security equipment,
and the whole thing was caught on tape by 17 cameras rolling in the store.
“The point is, nobody is safe; there is always a stupid criminal out there,” said Kris
Webb, owner of Spy Supply.
The thieves broke into Webb’s surveillance gear store in North Richland Hills, Texas,
last week.
“I’ve got them on no less than 17 cameras,” Webb said. “We are a security business.”
And if the name of the business wasn’t telling enough, multiple warning signs on the
store should have given the burglars a clue that they would be on camera.
“It is absolutely astounding that these people have the audacity to steal from us and
not expect to get caught,” Webb said.
The surveillance cameras caught several clear images of the two men who broke in
through the store’s front door with a crowbar early Friday.
Police said the duo filled a trash can with close to $10,000 worth of spy equipment.
Authorities said the video even showed a clear shot of their getaway car.
Webb said he’s taking the robbery in stride.
“I’m pretty confident they will get caught,” he said. “I’m not confident we’ll get our
equipment back.”
An ex-con allegedly tried to rob two people in New York, police said, but didn’t notice
his intended victims were police officers -- in uniform.
Police said 33-year-old Jermaine Washington allegedly was so intent on robbing
someone Saturday that he pulled a fake handgun on the two armed police officers as
they walked through Riverside Park, The New York Daily News said.
“It was stupid criminal tricks,” a police source said. “The guy didn’t even look to see
who was coming.”
After Washington allegedly pulled his fake gun, the two officers drew their real weapons and Washington surrendered after a short but tense standoff.
A man driving a stolen car that went into a ditch flagged down the wrong person for
help.
Dean Gangl, 40, of Richmond, Minn., unwittingly asked an off-duty sheriff’s deputy
to help him pull the vehicle out of a ditch along Benton County Road 4 west of Foley,
Minn., Sheriff Brad Bennett said.
The deputy, who came upon the stranded motorist at while he was on his way home,
noticed that the vehicle in the ditch matched the description of one reported stolen
hours earlier in St. Cloud. The deputy radioed to dispatchers, who confirmed the man
was driving a stolen car, Bennett said.
The deputy arrested Gangl and found that he was in possession of a white crystal
substance. Gangl tested positive for methamphetamine, Bennett said.
He was taken to the Benton County Jail and charged with being in possession of
controlled substance and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
A house burglar was arrested at a court when he showed up for another case, police
said. The man kicked in the back door of a home on Aug. 8 and entered but ran off
when a teenage girl who was lying on a couch saw him and started screaming, Nassau
County police said.
The girl identified the 49-year-old man, who had multiple prior arrests for burglary, in
a photo lineup, they said.
The man, from Bayville, was arrested by an officer when he went to First District
Court for an unrelated issue, police said. He was charged with second-degree burglary.
A Perth man has been charged with drink driving three times in 24 hours, his menacing spree ending with a bizarre incident at a police station.
The 46-year-old was first stopped by Boddington police in the Perth hills and charged
with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
He was spotted driving his car again a short time later and arrested for drink-driving,
police said.
The man’s car was impounded in the Boddington police station but early the next
morning, the man allegedly jumped over the fence of the police station, broke open a
padlock on a back gate and drove away in his car.
He was caught and arrested again three hours later and charged with three counts
of driving under the influence; three counts of driving while under suspension and one
charge of trespass.
He’s been refused bail.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Dropping the bomb
A Lawton woman is facing a felony bomb
threat charge after she allegedly called an Altus car dealership saying she was going to
blow up the place.
Aletha Kay Baker, 54, was charged July 11
with felony making a telephone threat of violence, in Jackson County District Court.
Altus Police said they were called to investigate a reported bomb threat at Four Stars
Toyota, 2600 East Broadway, shortly before
9:30 a.m. on July 11. Police evacuated the
building and were assisted by the 97th Security Forces Squadron explosives K9 unit.
The scene was declared safe after a twoand-half-hour search of the property and no
explosive device was found.
After learning the identity of the person, Investigators submitted a warrant
request and a warrant was later issued through the Jackson County District
Court for the arrest of Aletha Baker. Her address was located in Lawton.
Police also discovered Baker was a customer who had recently purchased
a vehicle from Four Stars Toyota.
An agent from the District III Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Altus Police, and agents from the Lawton Office of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics
and Dangerous Drugs, took Baker into custody late that afternoon from a
residence in the 1200 block of S.W. D St. She was transported the Jackson
County Jail and was held on a $100,000 dollar bond.
Baker’s preliminary hearing conference is scheduled for August 28 at 1:15
p.m.

surprise!
A 31-year-old man is being charged with breaking and entering after he was found hiding under
a woman’s bed.
Jesse Even Newberry told police he just wanted
to surprise her.
According to reports, the man was found hiding
under a bed in an apartment that was connected
to a shop in Ninnekah. The property owner lived
nearby, and his granddaughter and great-granddaughter were staying in the apartment.
The property owner said he saw Newberry stick
his head out of the shop door, but he didn’t find
the man when he initially searched the apartment.
Not convinced that the apartment was safe, the
property owner later returned to the apartment
with his cell phone camera on. While moving some boxes under the bed, he
found Newberry. He asked Newberry what he was doing.
Newberry identified himself as “James Roberts” and he left the apartment.
Grady County deputies found the man walking north on US 81 from County
Road 1470. He told them that he knew the woman staying in the apartment and he wanted to surprise her, even though he hadn’t spoken to her
in nearly 2 years. When deputies asked how he knew where she lived since
they weren’t in contact, he said a friend told him, but he refused to say the
friend’s name.
While investigating the incident, deputies were advised that Newberry had
assault and battery charges that involved the victim. Even scarier than the
man hiding in the apartment was the fact the victim may have actually been in
the home while Newberry was under the bed.
Right before the property owner saw Newberry look out of the shop, the
woman had been inside the apartment putting up groceries. She left to visit
a relative living nearby.
Newberry is being charged with breaking and entering dwelling without permission. His bond was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on September 6, 2019.
