Lawton man Paul Edward Tanner, 45, was locked up on
June 19 after a trooper stopped him for speeding.
According to the affidavit, the trooper stopped the man on
US 70 at I-44 after he clocked his vehicle reaching speeds of
up to 108 mph.
When the trooper asked the driver if anything was wrong,
Tanner replied, “My dad has a lot of s--- going on.”
While they were speaking, the trooper noticed the odor of
alcohol. He asked the man to have a seat in his patrol vehicle.
As Tanner walked back to the car, the trooper noticed that
he was unsteady on his feet. The trooper asked him if he had been drinking. He
admitted to having some beers at Lake Lawtonka.
The trooper asked the man if he was drunk; Tanner said he was fine. The
trooper then requested that the man agree to some sobriety tests. Tanner told
him, “I know I f----- up, and yeah, I’ve been drinking and yeah, I’m driving. I’m
not gonna deny it.”
Not surprisingly, the man didn’t do too well on the tests and the trooper
placed him under arrest.
He then conducted an inventory of the man’s car. He looked in a bag containing some clothing, and he also found a glass jar filled with what smelled like
alcohol and a pill bottle containing a green leafy substance.
Tanner admitted that the clothes in the bag was his. He told the trooper, “I
didn’t drink no moonshine or anything.”
The trooper said he didn’t know what was in the glass jar. Tanner told him it
was moonshine.
Tanner also admitted that the marijuana was his, but he only smoked it for
medical reasons.
After he was booked into jail, he told an officer he had consumed five beers,
three shots of pineapple rum and one pineapple soaked in rum. He also said
if he hadn’t been speeding, it would’ve been OK. With all of the stuff going
through his head, he said his foot just got heavy.
Tanner is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol third and subsequent, possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and transporting open bottle
or container of liquor. His bond was set at $30,000, and he is scheduled to
appear in court on July 7, 2016.

HOLMAN
Hinton woman Loren Ashley Holman, 28, was arrested
after she allegedly admitted to stabbing multiple people
during a scuffle on June 14.
Well, she actually said she pulled out a pocketknife and
just started swinging it around.
According to the police report, a Hydro officer was dispatched to the intersection of Second and Peck at approximately 9:27 p.m. to investigate the assault. When he
arrived, a man told him Holman stabbed several people.
He explained that everyone was fighting over some stolen
money, and Holman pulled out a knife and started cutting people.
Some of the victims at the scene had visible cuts and were covered in blood.
The man told the officer that Holman had also stabbed another man. He was
at his residence with Holman.
The officer went to the house and met with the man, who was also covered
in blood and holding his side. He told the officer he was involved in a fight and
got stabbed, but he didn’t know who stabbed him.
A woman walked outside while the officer was talking to the victim; she
was identified as Holman. The officer detained the woman and took her to the
Hydro Police Department for questioning.
Holman told the officer after being at the victim’s house for awhile, she went
fishing with the injured man that was in the house with her. While they were
fishing, she received a text from the victim that stated she was missing some
money from her purse. Holman and her fishing buddy headed back to his
residence and were about to eat when someone knocked on the door. The
man’s brother was at the door, and he said he wanted to speak to the couple.
Holman said she and her friend walked outside and “got jumped” by numerous people. During the scuffle, she said her glasses were knocked off, so she
wasn’t sure who the knife-wielding assailant was.
A short time later, officers found a bloody knife in Holman’s room. She admitted to the stabbing. She said she was on the ground when she remembered
she had a pocket knife in her pocket. She grabbed it and just started swinging.
Holman is being charged with three count of assault and battery with a
dangerous weapon. Her bond was set at $15,000, and she is scheduled to
appear in court on August 11, 2016.

It’s the worst possible time to faint—in the middle of robbing a bank. But
that’s what happened to a Beavercreek, Ohio, thief. The teller called 911 and
asked for medics. But you have to applaud the man’s stick-to-it-iveness. While
the ambulance was en route, the suspect handed a note to the teller demanding all her cash.
The victim’s jewelry was missing, the electronics were gone, and a window
was smashed. No wonder she was hysterical when officer Charanjit Meharu of
the Calgary police arrived. Then her French-speaking father called. Speaking
in French, she explained that it was all a scam in order to get the insurance
money. What she didn’t suspect was that Officer Meharu speaks six languages, including French.
A 12-year-old boy adamantly denied having stolen an iPhone when questioned by police at his home. And then the iPhone rang in his closet. Okay, yes,
he stole that. But as for the Blackberry he was also accused of stealing, he
double-adamantly denied… *RING!!*
Don’t you hate it when you suffer a heart attack and think you’re going to die,
so you confess to a 17-year-old murder, only to find out you’re not going to
die and then get sentenced to life in prison as a result? Yeah, so does James
Washington, of Nashville, because it happened to him.
Following a dispute, Craig Aylesworth, of Bithlo, Florida, allegedly tossed a
Molotov Cocktail at his neighbor’s trailer home … just as the winds shifted,
sending embers on to his own trailer. Luckily, he was arrested, since he no
longer had a home of his own to return to.
A San Francisco thief pedaled his bike up to a woman on the sidewalk,
snatched the iPhone out of her hands, and rode away. Unknown to him, the
woman was in the middle of demonstrating the iPhone’s new GPS tracking
device, which worked—the thief was captured minutes later.
Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni was impersonating a police officer when
he pulled over another car for speeding. The driver quickly sussed out that
Mastrogiovanni was fibbing since he, too, was a cop, but in his case, the kind
of cop who doesn’t have to pretend he’s a cop because he really is a cop.
Mastrogiovanni was arrested for impersonating a police officer.
How convenient! Only a few months earlier, an Iowa City, Iowa, man had his
driver’s license stolen. Then who should show up at the bar where he worked
as a bouncer, but the thief brandishing the bouncer’s very own license as his
form of ID.
Is there no honor among thieves? While two suspects were being questioned by Ogden, Utah, police about shoplifting from a store, someone broke
into their car and stole a stereo and several other items.
An El Paso, Texas, man busted into a church and absconded with the safe.
Safes are heavy, so he only got a few yards before dropping it on a neighbor’s
lawn, where he tried to crack it open. That’s when he was confronted by the
home’s occupant—a police officer.

21-year-old Dakota Lee Allison allegedly burglarized several vehicles, some storage units and a
camp trailer during a party on June 2.
The Duncan man later admitted to the crime and
gave police the stolen items.
According to the affidavit, a Comanche officer was
dispatched to a house in the 700 block of N. Seventh Street shortly after 5 a.m. due to a burglary in
progress. When he arrived, the homeowner told him
a man walked through his front door, then ran back
out.
While the officer was at the scene, the homeowner
discovered that his camp trailer and car had been
burglarized.
The officer took off walking down the road in an attempt to locate the suspect. He stopped a truck and asked the occupants if they had noticed anyone
in the area. They told the officer they had been at a party, but they left because
of underage drinking. The witnesses said Allison was also at the party. He
briefly left the shindig, but he returned with an armful of items he claimed to
have stolen that night.
Officers went to the scene of the party at a residence in the 600 block of
E. 1820 Road. The homeowner allowed them to search his home. An officer
found Allison lying facedown behind a couch, unable to wake the man up.
Some people in the house told the officer Allison had consumed a lot of alcohol and some prescription narcotics.
When the man eventually woke up, he agreed to talk to the officer. He admitted to burglarizing several unlocked vehicle in the area, as well as storage
buildings and a camp trailer. He handed over some jumper cables, a portable
DVD player, a cordless screw gun, a 14.2 volt screw gun, some headphones,
a cell phone, a radar detector, phone chargers, a set of golf clubs, and a tool
box.
Allison is being charged with burglary in the second degree. His bond was
set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 14, 2016.

An Altus man was arrested on June 10 after officers reportedly found a gun strapped
to his bicycle with some drugs and paraphernalia.
According to the police report, an Altus
police officer was dispatched to the 600
block of South Navajo at approximately
11:52 p.m. to assist a fellow officer who was
with a male subject. When he arrived, he
saw his comrade and a man he recognized
as 24-year-old Carlos Vincent.
Vincent had been riding a bike down the
street when the officer stopped him. The officer was now examining the two-wheeler for
suspicious items. His search turned out to
be fruitful.
As the officer circled the bike, he noticed something that didn’t look quite
right. He stopped and looked in a black pack that was secured to the bike’s
handlebars. The first thing he found was a fully loaded semi-automatic 9mm
handgun.
Vincent was placed under arrest for the unlawful carry of a firearm.
But, that wasn’t the only thing that would send him to jail.
The officer continued to search the pack, and he found more illegal items,
including a hypodermic needle, a glass smoking pipe with a white residue,
and a metal smoking device.
Police tested the pipe -- the white residue field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Vincent was then transported to the Jackson County Jail.
Vincent is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and carrying weapons. His bond was set at $35,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on July 25, 2016.

A Carnegie man was arrested in Kiowa
County for allegedly possessing drugs and
driving under the influence on June 27.
According to the police report, a concerned citizen contacted police shortly after
8 p.m. and informed officers that a man and
woman were sitting unconscious in a truck
on the side of the road in the area of state
Highway 115 and CR 1410.
A trooper was dispatched to the area to
see what was going on.
A Kiowa deputy was already on scene, and
he informed that trooper that when he pulled
up, the driver of the truck attempted to drive
away in an “erratic manner.”
The trooper met with the driver, identified as 33-year-old Wesley Allen
Hooper, and immediately noticed that the man appeared to be under the
influence of something. He asked the man if he had consumed any intoxicating substances that day.
Hooper told him he took a Lortab earlier that day.
The officers searched the man’s car, and they found a package of synthetic
marijuana and some rolling papers. Hooper admitted the package was his,
and he told the trooper he had recently smoked the “potpourri.”
The trooper then asked the man if he would submit to some sobriety tests.
He said yes and fully demonstrated that he was definitely under the influence
of something.
The trooper placed him under arrest and transported him to jail.
Hooper is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and driving
with license canceled/suspended/revoked.
It’s potpourri, not pot

Summer is here
and many children
are now home
alone with Internetcapable devices.
The Oklahoma
Internet Crimes
Against Children
Task Force wants
parents to exercise
caution when allowing children to use
those devices.
In 2015, nearly 1,000 instances of child sexual exploitation were reported to the OSBI
through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cybertipline,
with each case involving the use of computers, apps, chats, or social media.
Parents are urged to consider the following tips:
• Monitor your child’s usage of electronic devices such as cell phones,
tablets, readers, web cams, and laptops, as well as their usage of apps,
games, and social media accounts. Do not allow this usage to be private.
Instead, children should use these in open areas of the home, such as the
living room or kitchen.
• Although strangers are a threat, oftentimes children are exploited by
people they know. A large number of child pornography images are taken
by the children themselves and sent to others they know or think they know.
• Utilize device and software parental controls, as well as safety features
available for your children’s devices and apps. Parents are also encouraged
to communicate openly about online activity with their children.
Young people should be able to identify risky behavior and know what to
do if something bad happens. It is important parents and guardians remain
approachable about this topic – kids should never fear a parent’s reaction
more than they fear the misbehavior and/or consequences of people online.
Ask your child:
• Where do you spend most of your time online?
• What is your favorite app or video game right now?
• Who do you game or communicate with the most?
• How do you decide who gets to follow or friend you?
• What do you share, post, download, upload, and view?
• Can I review your profile with you?
• What would you do if you encounter behavior or communication that
makes you uncomfortable?
If your child is the victim of sexual misconduct online or you observe this
type of behavior, immediately report the incident to www.cybertipline.com,
the OSBI, or local law enforcement.

OHP Uses New Device To Seize
Money During Traffic Stops
You may have heard of civil asset forfeiture.
That’s where police can seize your property
and cash without first proving you committed a
crime; without a warrant and without arresting
you, as long as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.
Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize
money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.
It’s called an ERAD, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, and state
police began using 16 of them last month.
Here’s how it works. If a trooper suspects you may have money tied to some type of
crime, the highway patrol can scan any cards you have and seize the money.
“We’re gonna look for different factors in the way that you’re acting,” Oklahoma
Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent said. “We’re gonna look for if there’s a difference in
your story. If there’s someway that we can prove that you’re falsifying information to
us about your business.”
Troopers insist this isn’t just about seizing cash.
“I know that a lot of people are just going to focus on the seizing money. That’s a
very small thing that’ s happening now. The largest part that we have found ... the
biggest benefit has been the identity theft,” Vincent said.
“If you can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money it will be
given back to you. And we’ve done that in the past,” Vincent said about any money
seized.
State Sen. Kyle Loveless, R-Oklahoma City, said that removes due process and the
belief that a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He said we’ve already
seen cases in Oklahoma where police are abusing the system.
“We’ve seen single mom’s stuff be taken, a cancer survivor his drugs taken, we saw
a Christian band being taken. We’ve seen innocent people’s stuff being taken. We’ve
seen where the money goes and how it’s been misspent,” Loveless said.
Loveless plans to introduce legislation next session that would require a conviction
before any assets could be seized.
“If I had to err on the side of one side versus the other, I would err on the side of the
Constitution,” Loveless said. “And I think that’s what we need to do.”
News 9 obtained a copy of the contract with the state.
It shows the state is paying ERAD Group Inc., $5,000 for the software and scanners, then 7.7 percent of all the cash the highway patrol seizes.
News9.com
Eddie G: This is a a travesty of justice. OHP, because it can now that the technology is available, is asserting its ability to be judge and jury. The legislature needs to put
a stop to this, and whoever the turd(s) is/are who came up it with need to be removed
from their positions even if the law has to be changed to do it. That is ex post facto
you say? I say, too bad assholes. Prove it in a court of law.
Jason L: Today in America you are guilty until proven otherwise, but you are always suspect.
Aaron W: Complete overreach of power. How many candidates running for election in November promise smaller government? Things like this prove that the promises are false statements made to purely get them elected. Looks to me like the “we
the people” are being forced to fear our government...again.
Michael M: So I am against this, however this isn’t the entire story. It’s nice to
see news9 taking a crack at the sensational telling of stories without all of the details
much like the national media.
First, this will be handled like all other property seizures in the state, it must be in
connection to a crime. The asset is seized and effectively placed into evidence.
Second their is a court date I do not remember the amount of time but it is a set
time between the date of seizure and the court date. In the event the court date cannot be held within the allotted time. The asset is returned, in the event a court date is
obtained prior to the court date, the officer must submit a seizure for the the countys
district attorney, the DA must sign off on it prior to the court date the DA Then goes
before the Judge and PROVES that the asset is a benefit the person received from an
illicit activity. If they cannot the asset is returned to the person.
Now all that said, yes there it’s a huge chance for abuse, however the only people
who have either limited our complete immunity is in this situation is the DA and the
judge. The officer who seizes the asset is still liable for any wrong doing and is subject
to civil and criminal ligation in the event of abuse. If that’s not motivation to behave I
don’t know what is. All this is intended to do is “catch” police up to trends in crime.
It is handled the same way any property seizures in the state is handled, a house or
vehicle.
Jamie D: The issue is if money and property are returned and found innocent, the
victim will still incure court costs, missed work, expenses..etc ( all cost money)
Jerry P: Im not sure this is true, but its not a new law, if you are in position of money or property that was used in illegal activity they could always sieze it. With modern
technology people can buy drugs with prepaid cards or even bank cards. If its found
out the money was not involved in illegal activity it will be returned, not a new law at all
Leona U: Due process, have we forgotten this? Innocent until proven guilty. I can
completely understand seizing everything in a felonious act. Apart from that, it’s none
of your business where my money comes from. You certainly don’t have the right to
seize it. When did OHP become judge and jury? This is completely insane.
Amy J: I can picture a drug bust where pounds of Marijuana are seized, as well
as cash. Is this supposed to make that possible if its in a vehicle? Because I’m having
trouble understanding how an officer would just take money from a single mom as if
she were simply driving down the road, and he decided to be a bully. Maybe i don’t
feel threatened because I’m broke haha. I absolutely disagree with the idea of seizure,
except in extreme situations where theft or distribution are obvious, in which case the
items should be entered as evidence, and only after conviction should the money be
used for anything
Jason E: Criminals are not going to have bank accounts anyway. This only harnesses the people and creates more fear and hatred. The money in question that is
used by law abiding citizens is used to pay for our daily lives. When it is taken like this,
utilities and late payment accrue and those don’t get reimbursed by their “mistake.”
Winnie B: If it isn’t just about seizing other people’s cash, then do the job w/o
grabbing any. Currently it’s highway robbery, by badges protected by the laws. A
perfect RICO case.
Patsy T: Oklahoma is reaching as far as they can for $$. This needs to be challenged in court. I get paid on a card I don’t carry my check stubs with me to validate
where funds come from. The gift card thing is unreal.
Braylen R: I love the state taking our belongings without due process. Their reach
doesn’t go far enough if you ask me. We should all be willing to hand over whatever
the state wants, and thank them for their hard work.
Bryan W: The company gets a 7.7% commission rate on all assets money siezed.
So what happens when the money is legitimate like the christian band or somebody
who just took out money to get a new car? I wrote to state legislators with absolutely
no response from them concerning this law asking for just the statistics on its enforcement.
Randy H: I support the men and women in blue in a lot of things....but this is just
wrong....and for ERAD to get 7.7 percent of what the troopers can get ?
Michael W: Oklahoma must be broke way to go Fallin the failer, I’m sure we could
sue if they did take money wrongfully it’s only right I sell my booty for my hard earned
money can’t take that away from me fools.
Charles C: Caught now x wife in bed with police officer. Police came over asked
for my debit card for additional I’d and BAM!!! Next day all was empty. Said I can
rebuttal. Lawyer is more expensive than what was in the account. I’m a ret Air Force
guy. There are a lot of good police officers and about 15% that are shady. I’m speaking the gospel. Nothing you can do once they run that card.
Earl E: Welcome to the Oklahoma Police State. Wrong, wrong and wrong. I’m
sure the budget cuts affected them, so they brought this in to re-fill their coffers. Its
hard to break the law when you are the law (not)
Brandon L: The way Lt. John Vincent can’t even form a coherent sentence would
make me very suspicious like his story ain’t adding up and maybe the cards in wallet
need a little scanny poo!
Teresa P: Its awful they have seized even elderly people’s money and when it was
finally given back they still kept a lot of it. That was Florida. Should not be able to do
this. Its this kind of thing that makes ppl hate police agencies. Stick to upholding the
law not breaking it.
Tadpole S: If they are going to sieze money from any source that needs to be
done by either state investigation or federal investigation ie OSBI or FBI not the OHP.
Edward C: It’ s going to get cops/patrolmen hurt and or killed. If not at first, afterwards. And those who legislated this horrid piece of work should be at the TOP of the
eradication lists. It doesn’t matter how bad the I-35 corridor is, government CANNOT
consitutionally take property, period....especially on a whim,. And don;t bother me
with “the law says”....the Constitutions DOES NOT.
What’s your opinion on this?

A Frederick man was arrested on June 3 after
he allegedly threatened his soon-to-be wife with
a knife when she implied he might be gay.
Why would she suspect that, you ask?
Well, just keep reading.
According to the affidavit, a Frederick officer
was dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block
of North 11th shortly after 10 a.m. due to an “unwanted guest armed with a knife.” As he pulled
up to the house, he saw a man he recognized as
27-year-old Thomas Michael Haynes walk out of
the front door. When Haynes saw the officer, he
turned around and went back inside the house.
The officer requested that he come back outside so they could talk.
Haynes complied, and as he walked toward the officer, the officer noticed
a medium-sized folding knife clipped to his left pants pocket.
He asked the man what was going on. Haynes said he was just cleaning his fingernails with his knife and it pissed his fiancee off, so she called
the police.
The officer met with the victim who said she came home to find her
man sitting on the couch. It appeared that none of the household chores
that he had agreed to do were completed, plus he was painting his fingernails orange.
During their argument, the victim insinuated that Haynes might bat for
the other team. This enraged him, and he used his orange-painted fingernails to grab a knife.
The victim said he held up the knife and asked her, “Do you not see I’m
holding a knife?” She said he threatened to use it on her.
Haynes is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. His
bond was set at $25,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court on
June 23, 2016.
Orange Power
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep someone out of our
publication. The short answer to that question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never
accepted money or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the
jail told them all they have to do is pay us money and we will not publish their
photo. This is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such, should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and never will. If an arrest doesn’t make
our paper, it is only because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

For a trio of drug thieves, it was their
lucky day. They broke into a home in
Silver Springs, Florida, and discovered three jars of cocaine. They took
it home and snorted the contents.
That’s when they discovered that the
jars were in fact urns, and that they
were snorting the cremains of the victim’s husband and two dogs.
When an attempted robbery at
a Lowes Home Improvement store
went awry, Milton J. Hodges fled
across the street and jumped a fence
… right into the Cypress Cove Nudist
Resort & Spa. As the Orlando Sentinel pointed out, “As one of the only
folks wearing clothing,” Hodges was
easily spotted by police.
