Duncan man Larry Shawn Nixon, 42, allegedly robbed a
local convenience store and restaurant on March 20.
The cashier told police when he came to pay, he told her, “I
need my cigarettes, and I need the money out of the register.”
According to the affidavit, police responded to the location
in the 4000 block of North Highway 81 shortly after 2 p.m. A
Duncan officer was advised a panic alarm call had been activated at the location at approximately 1:40 p.m. The victim,
the cashier on duty, was able to get the license plate of the
suspect’s vehicle.
The officer spoke to the store owner, who was in the back of
her business reviewing security camera footage. The video showed a man enter
the store and take some beer up to the counter. After a couple minutes, the cashier hands him the money in the cash register. The man then left the store and
drove away from the property, traveling east on Camelback, then south onto US
Highway 81.
The owner of the vehicle the man fled the scene in told police he sold the car to
Nixon about a month prior.
The cashier told police Nixon seemed nervous during the robbery. He promised he wouldn’t hurt her if she gave him the money in the register.
The man in the security footage was positively identified as Nixon. The suspect
was wearing a hospital bracelet in the video. Police confirmed the man had recently been a patient at the Duncan Regional Hospital.
Nixon is being charged with robbery in the first degree. His bond was set at
$100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 18, 2016.

A 19-year-old Oklahoma City man was arrested in Duncan after
he allegedly threatened a store cashier with a knife on March 22.
Christopher Ray Sanders said he just needed to use the restroom.
According to the affidavit, dispatch advised a Duncan officer they
received a 911 call from a store at Highway 81 and Elder at approximately 4:55 a.m., but the person who called hung up before they
got a chance to see what was wrong.
When the officer arrived at the store, he made contact with the
clerk and saw a man who was very unsteady on his feet walking toward the door. A customer told the officer the man, later identified
as Sanders, was causing a disturbance.
The officer approached Sanders and conducted a pat down search of his person. He
found a fixed blade knife in the man’s pocket.
Sanders smelled strongly like alcohol.
The officer asked him what happened. Sanders said he walked to the store to use
the restroom. He told the officer the cashier accused him of stealing beer earlier that
evening, and he wouldn’t let him use the store’s facilities. Sanders said he didn’t shoplift anything from the store, and it made him mad that he couldn’t relieve himself at
the store.
The cashier told the officer Sanders had been suspected of shoplifting from the store
in the past.
Earlier that day, someone had jacked some booze, and the cashier thought it might
be Sanders.
So, when Sanders came back in the store, the cashier told him to take his business
elsewhere.
The cashier said he then picked up the phone to call 911, but Sanders slapped it out
of his hand. He then pulled a knife out of his pocket and warned the victim he would
find him on the street.
The cashier also said Sanders head-butted him during the altercation, and he had to
defend himself with the bathroom key.
Shortly after 5 a.m., Sanders was placed under arrest. On the way to jail, he told the
officer he was a member of the “Rollin’ ‘90s Crip.”
At the jail, he started slamming his head into the wall. He also threatened to kill the
officer.
Sanders is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and threaten to
perform act of violence. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on May 18, 2016.

girlfriend’s son when the man
asked him to take out the trash
on March 20.
According to the police report,
Duncan police officers were dispatched to a residence in the
100 block of West Main shortly
after 1 p.m. to investigate an assault that occurred in the 500
block of West Walnut.
The reporting party told police he was frustrated that his
mother’s boyfriend, identified
as Miller, didn’t do his part and help out around the house.
He said he asked Miller to take out the trash, but Miller obviously didn’t want to.
When the victim approached him, Miller hit the man multiple times on the face. The victim said he then left the residence to avoid any additional conflict.
During the investigation, officers were advised Miller had
active felony warrants out of Stephens County and Oklahoma County.
Around 2:39 p.m., officers went to the scene of the alleged
crime in an attempt to locate Miller. A woman answered the
door and told police Miller wasn’t home. When they asked
for permission to search the residence, she said, “Sure.”
During the search, an officer saw a man hiding behind a
door. He was identified as Miller.
Miller was placed under arrest and transported to jail. He
refused to speak to police about the assault, but his right
knuckles were slightly bruised and swollen, which was consistent with the victim’s injuries.
Miller is being charged with assault and battery. His bond
was set at $2,500, and she is scheduled to appear in court
on May 10, 2016.

Ashleigh D: The U.S. Has more prisons and locks up more people than any
other nation. It has become a system fueled on profit, housing non violent offenders like cattle. Maybe if more money went into other things like schools it would be
different here. Who knows.
Chris R: I am personally for releasing non-violent offenders before cutting
education. Cuts in education only increase the likelihood of increased prison populations in the future.
Winnie B: Build tent cities, issue extra blankets in the winter, feed them baloney or cheese sandwiches, their tv viewing can be on the dining hall tent, post 8

According to our interpretation of this article, it looks as if our prison system
will not undergo any budget cuts this year, but our schools still face budget cuts.

Agreement reached on tapping fund for
Oklahoma schools, prisons
Gov. Mary Fallin and legislative
leaders announced
in March an agreement on a plan to
withdraw nearly
$79 million from
the state’s Rainy
Day Fund to offset budget cuts to
schools and prisons.
Common Education will get $51
million, and $27.58
million will go to the Department of Corrections.
“I think all of us can agree that draconian cuts to education and the Oklahoma
Department of Corrections are unacceptable and something we are not going to allow happen in the state of Oklahoma,” Fallin said.
She announced the agreement in a news conference attended by key legislators
who said the approval process will begin quickly on bills to tap the state fund, which
was established to help with budget problems during times of economic distress.
“We don’t take this lightly, knowing full well that next year could be worse,” said
Senate President Pro Tem Brian Bingman. “It’s raining, and that’s what rainy day
funds are for.”
State revenues are in decline amid an oil bust and after a decade of income tax
reductions and increasing tax breaks for business.
The state is not taking in enough revenue to cover expenses, which has forced it
to make two rounds of cuts to agency allocations.
The first 3 percent cut was ordered in December, and a 4 percent cut was announced in March. Those cuts equate to $27.58 million for Corrections and $109.2
million for Common Education.
State schools Superintendent Joy Hofmeister said the money from the Rainy Day

Parolee Zachary Lynn Wolfe, 30,
went to jail after police found a gun,
drugs and ammunition in his home
on April 1.
According to the affidavit, a Grady
County probation and parole officer
and other officers went to the man’s
house in the 100 block of Sheridan
at approximately 4:30 p.m. One of
the conditions of Wolfe’s supervised
probation was that his vehicle and
property were subject to search by
police.
Officers found Wolfe in the garage and informed him they
were going to search his residence.
The man was detained while officers combed through his
home.
While searching the master bedroom, an officer found a
small piece of cellophane containing what appeared to be a
crushed pill in a shoebox on the television stand, and some
foil that contained a crystal-like substance that appeared to
be meth in the nightstand drawer.
The officers also found a multitude of ammunition, including 7mm-08 rounds, 12-gauge shotgun ammunition,
16-gauge shotgun rounds, 20-gauge shotgun rounds and .22
caliber rounds.
In a guitar case in the closet, the officer found a loaded
pump action shotgun. Some of the ammunition found in the
bedroom matched the rounds in the gun.
Wolfe was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
The officer tested the substance found in the foil – it tested
positive for methamphetamine.
Wolfe is being charged with possession of firearms after
conviction or during probation and possession of controlled
dangerous substance. His bond was set at $25,000, and he
is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, 2016.
