POCKETFUL OF METH
A wanted Lawton man was locked up for warrants and obstructing an officer on August 15. Officers also found drugs and paraphernalia in the
man’s pockets.
According to reports, someone approached
Lawton police officers at approximately 5 a.m. The citizen told them that a man
who had a warrant for his arrest was at an apartment complex on NW 20th
Street.
The citizen identified the man as 58-year-old Robert Charles Rodgers III.
After confirming that the man had a felony warrant for his arrest for trafficking
narcotics, officers went to the apartment complex. When they arrived at the
location, they saw two men standing outside of the apartment complex where
Rodgers was supposed to be. Officers recognized one of the men to be Rodgers.
Rodgers walked down the steps of the complex and started to walk across
the parking lot. When officers identified themselves to him, he took off running.
Officers told the man to stop running, but he refused.
Eventually, an officer deployed his taser and struck the man and Rodgers fell
face forward to the ground.
While putting handcuffs on the man, an officer noticed that Rodgers was unconscious and bleeding from his face. Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to the scene. Officers then transported the man to the hospital to be
treated for his injuries.
An officer found eight baggies in the man’s pocket with a substance that appeared to be methamphetamine. A field test confirmed that the substance was
indeed meth.
Rodgers is being charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to
distribute, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing an officer.
His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October
23, 2023.

AROUND THE NATION
Couldn’t he have phoned a friend instead?!?
An 18-year-old man in DeKalb County basically turned himself into police after a robbery
attempt turned ice cold...literally.
On Saturday, July 15, 2023, around 6:41 p.m. the Waterman Police Department in Waterman, Illinois responded to a call about a man being stuck in a
freezer at a local food establishment called Fay’s Finest Foods.
So how did this man get himself locked in a freezer? That is where the story
gets interesting.
According to WSPY News, 18-year-old Gabriel J. Morales locked himself
in the freezer at Fay’s Finest Foods while attempting to ROB the joint, AND
he called 911 himself.

Marlow man Chancey Blue Pearson, 22, was put behind bars after he led police on a high-speed car chase
and a foot chase on August 17.
According to the affidavit, a Duncan police officer
was patrolling the area of 12th Street and Highway 7
when he saw a tan SUV traveling eastbound on Park
Avenue from 12th Street at a high rate of speed at approximately 5:02 p.m. The officer
stopped the vehicle near 9th and Washington.
The driver, later identified as Pearson, didn’t wait for the officer. Instead, he drove off
headed northbound on 9th.
The officer sped after the man. Pearson ran a stop sign, almost causing a collision with
another vehicle. He also hit a curb turning onto Sycamore Avenue. The pursuit continued
onto 14th Street, then Mulberry Avenue, to 15th Street to Oak to E Street to Chestnut.
The man ran multiple stop signs as he turned onto multiple streets. The man then went
northbound on Waterplant Road.
As the high speed pursuit continued, another officer joined the chase. At approximately
5:12 p.m., Pearson crashed at the intersection of Waterplant Road and Osage. When
officers approached the man’s vehicle, it was empty.
Another officer and his canine partner and an officer with a drone arrived at the location
to assist with the search. Around 5:38 p.m., Pearson walked out of the treeline he was
hiding in with his hands up.
Officers placed him under arrest and transported him to the hospital. When hospital
staff informed him they were going to use a catheter if he couldn’t urinate, he told them
he was going to “kick them in the throat.”
When officers spoke to Pearson, he admitted to traveling 100 mph and running a stop
sign. He said another man was in the vehicle with him. When he stopped at 9th and
Washington, the man told him that the vehicle was stolen.
Officers never saw another person in the car, however. They did find an ID in the vehicle
that belonged to another man. The car was registered to that man’s grandparents.
Pearson is being charged with endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude a
police officer after the former conviction of a felony, unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving
without a valid driver’s license, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage, and
failure to stop for yield sign. His bond was set at $75,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on November 29, 2023. KAREN

TACTICAL TACTICS
A Waurika man was taken into custody after
he allegedly kidnapped a woman and then fired
a gun towards officers.
According to Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), on August 17, OSBI the was
requested by the Waurika Police Department to
assist with a disturbance.
Around 12:40 P.M., officers responded to a
residence in Waurika, where they attempted to
make contact with 37-year-old David Hatmaker. Hatmaker barricaded himself inside the home. Officers were able to contact and secure a female victim
and request assistance from other surrounding law enforcement agencies.
While attempting to make contact with Hatmaker, he fired several shots toward officers and deputies. A standoff ensued for the next several hours.
The Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department deployed their tactical team to make entry into the home. The suspect was located and arrested
without incident. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Hatmaker was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Kidnapping and
Threats to do Bodily Harm. More charges are pending in regards to the
shooting.
Bond for Hatmaker was set at $50,000 and was ordered back to court on
September 19.

SLOW RIDE
A couple of men from Altus were arrested after authorities caught them with fentanyl last month.
According to reports, someone alerted the District
Three Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force that the
men were traveling to Altus. The men were in a silver Mini Cooper, and they were allegedly transporting
fentanyl.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers located the suspect vehicle and pulled it over. The men inside the
car were identified as 45-year-old Joey Esquivel and
28-year-old Troy Allen Hampton.
Authorities searched the vehicle and found some
meth, a glass pipe, and some counterfeit fentanyl pills.
While speaking to authorities, Hampton allegedly
told authorities that he bought the pills from a supplier in Lawton. He admitted to driving back on two
instances.
Both men are being charged with trafficking in illegal drugs and endeavoring/conspiracy to deliver/manufacture/possess a controlled dangerous substance.
Their bonds were set at $200,000, and they are scheduled to appear in court on October 19, 2023.
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

PULLING A GUN ON STREET PHONE VENDOR AND DRINKING BOX WINE IN PUBLIC
On August 15, around 9:00 a.m., officers responded to a 6000 S. Peoria in Tulsa for a call
about a disturbance with a gun.
The caller said they saw the suspect, later identified as Kenneath Gustavis,
point a gun at a vendor issuing government cell phones on the corner. The caller
also said the suspect was arguing with others in the parking lot.
The first officer arrived and quickly spotted Gustavis drinking wine out of a
box in public. Initially, Gustavis put his hand on his waistband, implying he had
a weapon.
Gustavis then put his hands up and started to comply with the Officer, but then
turned and ran, as seen in the photo.
Officers took Gustavis into custody just a few blocks away and recovered the
gun he was carrying. Gustavis appeared to be intoxicated at the time.
The cell phone vendor later said Gustavis initially became upset when he
was told he needed an ID to get a free
phone. The vendor said Gustavis then
spit and hit his vehicle, then pulled out a
gun and pointed it at him.
Kenneath Gustavis was arrested for:
- Pointing a Deadly Weapon with Intent
- Carrying a Firearm While Intoxicated
- Obstructing/Interfering with a Police
Officer
- Consuming Intoxicants in a Public
Place
This is an arrest, not a conviction.

CELL PHONE LEADS
TO PRISON CELL
A 38-year-old Chickasha man was arrested
after investigators found more than 100 sexually
explicit photos and videos on his phone.
According to reports and court documents
filed on August 18, the attorney of Michael Morgan turned over his phone to authorities. The attorney said the phone was
his client’s confession.
The Grady County Sheriff’s Department was already investigating Morgan
when this happened. Authorities started investigating the man after he allegedly uploaded some child porn to Facebook last September. Several reports with the IP address traced back to Morgan.
Morgan is being charged with aggravated possession of child pornography
and violation of OK statute via computer. His bond was set at $250,000, and
he is scheduled to appear in court on September 13, 2023.
