An Enid man’s attempt to test
“stand your ground” laws ended
with a trip to jail March 27.
At around 5:20 a.m. that day,
Garfield County sheriff’s deputy
Zachary McElveen went to the 7400
block of West Carrier Road after receiving a burglary report. Dispatch
told McElveen the homeowner had
a suspect at gunpoint and fired a
shot at another would-be burglar.
When he arrived, he spoke to the
homeowner and a friend, where
they showed him Steven Boster, 35,
who was lying on the ground. Boster
was arrested on a first-degree burglary complaint and put in the patrol car.
The victims said they were camping out outside the area trying to
catch people who had been stealing from them. Eventually, they confronted Boster and an accomplice. When the suspects tried to leave,
the homeowner pointed a gun at them, so naturally Boster stopped
and got on the ground. The homeowner said he fired a few shots into
the bed of the truck and toward the engine.
Under Miranda, Boster said the getaway vehicle was a blue Chevrolet with a white stripe down the middle and aluminum wheels. He
told the deputies they were en route to an address off of Olive Street.
Upon arrival at county, Boster decided to try to make amends, saying he would like to help police get the others who were involved
in the attempted burglary. Unfortunately for him, Boster has three
prior convictions on his rap sheet, two of which are crimes of theft,
and he could receive 20 years to life in the prison system.
Boster posted a $20,000 bond April 1 and is due back in court at
1:15 p.m. May 13.

Drugs, money and knives were the ingredients in
multiple Enid residents’ arrests March 27.
At 5:10 a.m. that day, officer James Buck received
a call about a hostage situation at the 600 block
of North Davis. Buck met the caller in the parking
lot of Rick’s Pharmacy, where the man said he had
been receiving calls from a woman who said she was
being held hostage over a bad drug deal.
The woman kept asking him to bring her $250
and said three Hispanic males, including Jose Crespo Valentin and Pablo Marti Ramirez, were holding her at knifepoint while demanding the money,
he said.
When Buck went to the residence, he and other
officers got the woman safely out of the house, then
forced the door open and ordered the men to get on
the ground. When the officers searched the house,
they found April Ash and Robert Figueroa, who
both had outstanding warrants.
The hostage showed police two kitchen knives,
which each measured more than a foot long. She said Ash called her and asked her to get
methamphetamine, so she called a dealer named “Tessa” to buy an “8-ball” for Ash. Later,
Ash and Marti came to the woman’s house to make the deal, but things took a turn once Marti
saw the drug.
When he picked up the ball, Marti said it wasn’t meth and began to demand his money
back. “Tessa” conveniently didn’t answer her phone after the deal, which made Marti angrier.
He left and came back 10 minutes later with Crespo and Figueroa, who helped him lock her
in the house. Marti held the knife up to her demanding his money “or else,” the victim said.
This continued for a bit, with Marti adding that he had nothing more to lose. Fearing for
her life, she called her friend, who called police, she said.
Figueroa confirmed the victim’s story, adding that he was “f---ed” because of outstanding
warrants. Marti, for his part, admitted trying to buy meth and said he was sold fake meth
that day.
Ash faces an endeavoring to possess methamphetamine charge, and Marti faces charges of
kidnapping for extortion and assault with a dangerous weapon. Crespo also has a kidnapping
charge.
All will appear in court at 1:15 p.m. May 6. Ash, Crespo and Marti remain in custody.

A former McLoud teacher who admitted to taking sexually inappropriate photos of
young girls, some her own students, wants a judge to consider probation.
In a written letter submitted to the court, Kimberly Crain blamed depression,
menopause, a persuasive online love interest, an emotionally absent husband and
even hypnosis for her crime.
The former elementary school teacher detailed a timeline of events that prompted
her to plead guilty to manufacturing and distributing child pornography and to
lewd molestation. Crain makes an attempt to reason with the court as to why she
took sexually explicit snapshots of girls in her class and then emailed or Skyped
them to her online love, Gary Doby, a professor living in Pennsylvania.
“I found myself giving in to all he wanted,” Crain said. “...I wanted to continue to keep him happy.”
Crain eventually invited several girls to help her decorate her classroom before the 2011-12 school year. The
students were invited to her house to eat pizza, and they were taped as they changed clothes.
“I took some candid snapshots as they played and ate,” Crain wrote. She emailed those photos to Doby.

Four people were busted for drugs and paraphernalia after Perry police officers served a search warrant at a residence on Noble Street.
Jailed were Judge Crigler, III, 31, his wife, Amanda
Crigler, 29, Jerry Dorl, 25, and Tabitha Bocox, 30.
According to the police affidavit, the SRT team
went to the 500 block of Noble to serve a warrant.
Police announced their presence but no one came to
the door, even though they heard people shuffling
around inside. After the second warning to open the
door was not answered, they rammed the door and
people scattered like roaches.
Both Criglers and Dorl were cuffed and taken to the
Noble County Jail. Bocox was not at her home at the
time.
Officers found prescription pills, a crystal-like substance inside a Flintstone vitamin container, straws,
hollow pens, and more crystal-like substance in a
baggie in the couch.
Bocox was found at the house later that day standing in her driveway. When the arresting
officer asked if she had anything illegal on her, she said she had a meth pipe hidden inside
her vagina.
At the jail, she retrieved the pipe and was booked.

Mother of the year
Leticia Silva, a 31-year-old Florida woman, has been charged after she
allegedly mailed her young children a knife, then instructed them to kill
their grandparents with it.
According to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, Silva lost custody of her
two daughters (ages 7 and 9) seven years ago when she was arrested in
Florida for possession of methamphetamine.
The two children were removed from Silva’s care and sent to live with
their paternal grandparents in Greenville, North Carolina. Both children
remain in the care and custody of their grandparents.
Investigators say Silva plotted to have the grandparents (her former inlaws) murdered while she was incarcerated in a Florida prison.
In December, Silva mailed a switchblade pocket knife to her daughters
with a written note instructing them to murder their grandparents with it. Silva then called her
daughters around Christmas time and instructed them to grab a steak knife from the kitchen and
use it for the murder instead.
The murder plot began to unravel in February when the childrens’ grandmother found the
knife under a pillow while changing the girls’ bed sheets. That’s when the grandmother brought
the two girls to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, and the girls explained what they had been instructed to do with the knives.
Silva, who was out of jail and had traveled to North Carolina, turned herself in at the Pitt
County Detention Center on March 4Silva. She has been charged with four counts of first-degree
solicitation to commit murder. She remains in jail in lieu of a $5 million bond.

A Kingfisher man faces a felony charge after police busted him for his third DUI in four
years March 11.
At around 8:05 p.m., officer Jonathan
Riedlinger was dispatched to the intersection
of Sykes and 7th Street after receiving a report
about an unconscious person in a car. He arrived to see a blue Ford van, which was off the
road in grass near a dirt berm. The vehicle was
running, and when Riedlinger went to the driver’s side door, he noticed it was still in gear.
Once Riedlinger saw the driver, Francisco Hernandez (Rangel),
43, was breathing, he knocked on the window in attempts to wake
him up. After several unsuccessful tries, the officer started banging
against the glass with an open palm. Eventually, Hernandez woke up
and started to drive the van, prompting Riedlinger to yell for him to
stop.
Hernandez then rolled down the window, nearly overwhelming
the officer with the smell of alcohol. Riedlinger reached in the van to
put it in park and take the keys out of the ignition, and soon after he
asked Hernandez to step out.
Officer Fred Albers, who was with Riedlinger, noticed an opened
18 pack of Bud Light beer between the front driver and passenger
seats. When police tried to speak with Hernandez, he refused to say
whether he had been drinking. However, he failed multiple field sobriety tests, according to the affidavit.
Riedlinger then arrested Hernandez for actual physical control
while under the influence. At the jail, Hernandez refused to take a
Breathalyzer test, saying, “I’m going to prison anyway.”
Hernandez was convicted of two DUIs in August 2009 and July
2012 in Travis County, Texas and Kingfisher County, respectively,
records show.
Hernandez posted a $2,000 bond March 14. He’ll next appear in
court at 2 p.m. April 15.

A Kingfisher woman’s quest for high
food landed her a night in county lockup
March 21.
At 4 p.m. that day, officer Jonathan
Riedlinger went to Sonic for a report of
a vehicle hitting a menu pole. When he
arrived, he saw a Sonic employee standing next to an SUV.
The woman said a white SUV driven
by Megan Payne, 33, pulled into an
ordering stall, hit the menu pole and
destroyed the ordering intercom. After that, Payne tried to place an order.
While the employee called police, Payne
backed out of the damaged stall and went to a different one, she said.
Riedlinger went to the SUV, which was two stalls away, and confronted Payne. When he asked her if she was driving the SUV, she
looked at him like she didn’t understand the question. Eventually, she
confirmed driving the vehicle. While speaking with Payne, the officer
noticed she was swaying a lot, so he asked her some more questions.
Payne said she pulled into the stall to order a drink. She tried to
place an order and no one would take it, so she went to a different
stall, she said. Payne told Riedlinger she did not know why the first
stall didn’t work, so he informed her she hit it with her SUV. Her response? “I didn’t realize,” according to the affidavit.
A look at Payne’s SUV showed she had damage to her headlight and
fender, which was consistent with the damages at the stall. Further
questioning revealed Payne took pain medication soon before driving, since she said she had back surgery on Feb. 4. Payne was arrested
for driving under the influence of drugs and had a blood test upon her
arrival at the jail.
Payne posted a $2,500 bond the next day and pleaded not guilty to
the charge March 27. She has court set for 9:30 a.m. May 1.

John 10:10: “The thief cometh not,
but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am come that they might have
light, and that they might have it more
abundantly.”
The thief Jesus is referring to in
this scripture is Satan himself. The
Lord contrasts the work of the devil as
stealing, killing, and destroying, while
the work of the Lord is to bring abundant
life to His people. Notice that the thief
doesn’t stop at one sin of stealing, but
rather progresses on to kill and destroy.
Many people do not realize that what
they think as just taking seemingly little
things can lead to taking bigger things
and ultimately one becomes a thief. The
“little fox” of stealing towels from the
motel, shoplifting small items, keeping
things that do not belong to them, can
lead to a dangerous pattern which could
eventually lead to one being imprisoned for theft.
Shoplifting alone costs our businesses enormous amounts of money which
causes to have to pay higher prices for goods. When a nation stoops to thievery
in any form, it hurts all the people.
in recent news articles, we have seen how thievery on the national level has
jeopardized the safety of our whole country because of people stealing our
national secrets and selling them to our potential enemies. We pray for this
element of sin in our society to be removed.
We, as Christians, know this can only happen through the Lord changing men’s
hearts and giving them power over sin in their lives. We pray for revival in our
nation so that honor and honesty will prevail in our national life.
We must also check our own lives to see if we are failing God by yielding to
stealing and cheating.

A Taloga man faces a felony seconddegree burglary charge after he allegedly
stole $5000 worth of coins from a home
in Chester.
Joshua Patton, 28, allegedly confessed
to the crime when Major County Deputy
Nick Holdeman questioned him.
The case broke open when a witness
came forward and told Holdeman that in
January, she drove Patton and another
man to the victim’s home outside Chester, where Patton stole the coins. She said
they then drove to Oklahoma City and
sold the coins to dealers at the Old Paris Flea Market and at Flying
Eagle Coins. Both dealers said they had bought coins from Patton
and the other man.
Patton allegedly told Holdeman it was his idea to steal the coins
and asked that the other two not get into trouble for his crimes.
Patton pled not guilty at his preliminary hearing on April 4 and
bond was set at $10,000. He was ordered back to court May 16.
