caretaker charged with abuse
An Enid woman is facing charges of abuse
by caretaker after a patient under a care became injured on August 18.
The charges were filed against 30-year-old
Hollie Pabelick on April 2.
According to reports, Pabelick filed a client injury report while working at Robert M.
Greer Center, a facility for patients with developmental disabilities and mental illness. In
the report, Pabelick said another patient had
injured the victim.
Photos of the man’s injuries showed a red
circular pattern on his left temple, neck and
collarbone area. The circular pattern was
consistent with the bottom of Pabelick’s
shoes. No shoes belonging to any of the patients matched the injuries.
Pabelick initially denied hitting the patient with her shoe on purpose. She
said if she managed to hit the patient with the shoe in any way, it probably
happened by accident when they were sliding on the ground.
She maintained that another patient must have hit him.
During a second interview, the woman said she walked out of the room
and heard a skin-to-skin hit. Fearing a patient hit another patient, she said
she went back into the room to investigate. The injured patient then tried to
kick her. She told investigators she put her foot on his chest with force, but
only to keep him from hurting her. She said the patient pushed back with his
collarbone.
Pabelick also said she made contact with his face while trying to stop him
from headbutting her.
Pabelick is being charged with abuse by caretaker. Her bond was set at
$30,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on May 6, 2019.

SECURITY VERIFICATION FORM
Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty GARFIELD COUNTY 7 | APRIL 2019
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to recognize that we each can play a part in promoting the social and
emotional well-being of children and families in communities.
Parenting is one of the toughest and most important jobs
in America, and we all have a stake in ensuring that parents
have access to the resources and support they need to be successful. Entire communities play a role in helping families find
the strength they need to raise safe, healthy, and productive
children.
Here are some things you can do:
Get to know your neighbors. Problems seem less overwhelming when support is nearby.
Help a family under stress. Offer to babysit, help with chores and errands, or suggest
resources in the community that can help.
Reach out to children in your community. A smile or a word of encouragement can mean
a lot, whether it comes from a parent or a passing stranger.
Be an active community member. Lend a hand at local schools, community or faithbased organizations, children’s hospitals, social service agencies, or other places where
families and children are supported.
Keep your neighborhood safe. Start a Neighborhood Watch or plan a local “National
Night Out” community event. You will get to know your neighbors while helping to keep your
neighborhood and children safe.
Learn how to recognize and report signs of child abuse and neglect. Reporting your
concerns may protect a child and get help for a family who needs it.

Alva Man Arrested for Interstate
Murder Plot
Vernon Wayne Brock, 69, of Alva, has been
charged by complaint with hiring someone
to commit murder, announced First Assistant
U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
According to an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant filed in federal court, Brock hired a
Kansas resident to commit a murder in Oklahoma City. The individual from Kansas is alleged
to have contacted the FBI and cooperated in
the investigation.
The affidavit states that Brock and the individual from Kansas are partners in Oklahoma
vape shops and that Brock was upset with a
former vape shop employee who refused to continue a sexual relationship
with him. Brock allegedly wanted the individual from Kansas to arrange the
murder of the former employee’s boyfriend in Oklahoma City in exchange
for $5,000.
According to the affidavit, Brock identified the boyfriend by sending a
picture to the individual from Kansas and confirming “that’s the guy we
want dead.” The affidavit includes several alleged quotes by Brock from
recorded conversations between Brock and the individual from Kansas,
including:
•“Are they going to thump her around a little bit? And do him? Cause
that’s what I wanted.”
•“I’d rather do him, thump her and I mean thump her hard. And tell her
if she says one word to the cops about anything there will be someone
come back to get her . . . .”
•“The main thing is for them to throw the scent off of everything... What
they want to say to him is, . . . you didn’t pay us for our drugs or
something like that, and you owe us a million dollars, then pop, before
he has anything to say either way.”
FBI agents arrested Brock on the afternoon of April 3, with the assistance of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office, after Brock delivered a $5,000
check to the individual from Kansas at a café in Harper, Kansas. Brock
appeared in federal court on April 4 for an initial appearance before United
States Magistrate Judge Shon T. Erwin.
If found guilty of murder-for-hire, Brock faces a potential penalty of ten
years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release.

Five charged with conspiring to
bring drugs into penal institution
A series of recorded phone calls led to five people being charged with conspiracy to bring or possess contraband in a penal institution.
Warrants were issued for the suspects on April
3.
James Helmert, 34, Ronald Freeman, 50, Barbara Gazeley, 69, John Gregor, 38, and Tina Plummer, 50, are being accused of sneaking drugs into
the William S. Key Correctional Center.
Reports state that nearly a dozen recorded
phone conversations between Helmert, an inmate
at the prison, and Plummer were reviewed during
an investigation.
Investigators listened as Plummer, a former
nurse at the jail, gave Green Dot money card numbers to Helmert. Helmert
then used the numbers to buy drugs and alcohol from other inmates.
Subsequent calls revealed that the man was successful in his purchases
and was even under the influence of drugs and alcohol during the calls.
Plummer also allegedly delivered narcotics and other contraband to Gazeley, a former nurse at the Cimarron Correctional Center, and Gregor, a former
inmate, to be given to Helmert and Freeman, who was also an inmate at the
facility.
After the delivery of the narcotics was complete, Helmert gave Plummer
$874 worth of Green Dot money card numbers due to selling the drugs in
the prison.
The recorded conversations also revealed that Plummer helped Gazeley
with the money card numbers Freeman gave to Helmert, due to Freeman’s
sale of the contraband introduced to the facility by Gazeley and Gregor.
The contraband was allegedly brought into the prison around January 1,
2018. Helmert received money card numbers from Plummer between November 23, 2017, and February 7, 2018, on 17 different occasions to purchase drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
All five suspects are being charged with conspiracy, and their bonds were
set at $20,000 each.

A man was arrested after throwing a brick into the plexiglas window of a jewelry store...the brick bounced back, hit him in the head and knocked him cold
until the police got there.
Police interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and
connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message “He’s lying”
was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they
thought the suspect wasn’t telling the truth. Believing the “lie detector” was
working, the suspect confessed.
Burglars in Maryland tried to cut through a safe using a Laser Tag gun.
When two service station attendants refused to hand over the cash to an
intoxicated robber, the man threatened to call the police. They still refused, so
the robber called the police and was arrested.
Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just couldn’t
control himself during a lineup. When detectives asked each man in the lineup
to repeat the words, “Give me all your money or I’ll shoot,” the man shouted,
“That’s not what I said!”
In a small town of 1700, a student attempted to rob the local convenience
store wearing his letterman’s jacket. He did not realize that he was the only male
named Dana in the whole town.
A company called “Guns For Hire” stages gunfights for Western movies, etc.
One day, they received a call from a 47-year-old woman, who wanted to have
her husband killed. She got 4-1/2 years in jail.
Mexico - A group of drug traffickers cleverly decided to use a propane tanker
to cross the border from Mexico to El Paso, Texas. They released the propane
and concealed it within the truck 6,240 pounds of marijuana. The men did not
realize, however, that they had misspelled the name of the gas company.

22 | APRIL 2019 KINGFISHER COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
kingfisher man facing murder
charges in girlfriend’s death
A gruesome discovery was made in Kingfisher County after a local woman’s family
contacted police because they hadn’t heard
from her in a few days.
Reports state the sister of a 56-year-old
woman contacted Kingfisher police on April
4 because she hadn’t spoken to her sister
since earlier that week.
Officers went to the woman’s home in
the 400 block of West Sheridan to conduct
a welfare check. After looking around the
home and speaking to the woman’s longtime
partner, 62-year-old Steven Stricker, officers
issued a missing person’s report. They also
contacted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and requested that they assist with locating the woman.
Officers and OSBI agents returned to the home on the morning of April 5
where they conducted a thorough search of the property. During the investigation, they found evidence that was consistent with the presence of human
remains.
Agents immediately took Stricker into custody and questioned him about
his girlfriend’s whereabouts. Stricker told them that the victim was deceased.
He said he had dismembered her body. He then burned the body parts and
scattered the ashes around the backyard and in the trash.
The investigation is still ongoing.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
