TIPS FROM OHP
Today we are covering the
requirements of drivers when
approaching stop signs. We
are seeing far to many collisions and fatalities due to
people not stopping as required. State Statute tells us
we shall STOP as required
and after having STOPPED,
yield the right-of-way to any
vehicle which has entered the
intersection before we proceed.
Title 47-11-403B:
“Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic control signal,
every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop intersection indicated by a stop
sign shall stop as required by subsection (d) of Section 11-703 of this title
and after having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has
entered the intersection from another highway or which is approaching so
closely on said highway as to constitute an immediate hazard, but said driver
having so yielded may proceed and the drivers of all other vehicles approaching the intersection shall yield the right-of-way to the vehicle so proceeding.”

Cherokee man Edward Quixote Jones,
35, was locked up in Woods County for
a warrant after he allegedly threatened to
destroy his girlfriend’s home during an altercation on February 10.
According to the affidavit, a relative of
the victim’s contacted a Waynoka officer and advised him that the victim and
Jones had been in an argument, and the
victim was scared Jones was going to
destroy her home.
The officer told the relative the victim
needed to call and give a statement regarding the incident.
The officer checked Jones’ info and
discovered the man had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Alfalfa County. He
went to the victim’s residence in the 1600
block of Third Street, but no one answered the door.
The victim then called and advised she wanted Jones removed from her
home, because he kept calling and texting her that he was going to destroy
her house. She didn’t want to press charges -- she just wanted him out.
Officers went back to the residence but once again, no one came to the
door.
With the victim’s permission, they entered the residence and found Jones
in the front room. They advised him he was under arrest for the warrant.
Jones spit a lit cigarette at the officers, hitting one on the left arm. He
then turned to run, but officers stopped him and stunned him with a taser.
After placing the man in handcuffs, officers removed him from the residence.
Jones kept screaming and yelling that he wasn’t going to jail. He refused
to get in the patrol car, and unhooked his seatbelt several times on the way
to Woods County Jail, stating that he was going to get out of the car. When
that didn’t work, he tried to light a lighter he was holding. He continued to
insisted that he wasn’t going to jail and threatened to hit anyone who got
in his way, including the arresting officer.
The officer advised the man that wouldn’t be a good idea.
When they arrived at the jail, Jones continued to scream and yell while
officers escorted him into the building. Despite insisting he wasn’t going to
jail, he was immediately placed into a cell.
Jones is being charged with assault on police officer and resisting an officer. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on March 21, 2017.

Woodward man Travis Lynne Key, 36, allegedly
stabbed his brother after a night out on February 26.
According to the affidavit, a Woodward officer was
dispatched to the emergency room shortly after 2 a.m.
due to a man who was being treated for multiple stab
wounds. The officer spoke with the victim’s wife, who
was in the waiting area. She said she and her husband
went to a local bar with his brother, identified as Key,
and their female friend. The men argued all night, but
she wasn’t sure what they were fighting about.
The wife decided she wanted some cigarettes, so
she called a taxi, and she and the two men loaded up and headed to a
nearby gas station. The the men continued to fight in the taxi, but she never
saw Key stab her husband.
The officer tried to speak to the victim, but the man was highly intoxicated
and seemed unaware that he had been stabbed.
At approximately 2:58 a.m., officers searched the taxi and found a large
amount of blood in the car. The driver said the men started fighting when he
picked them up from the bar. When they arrived at the store, he told the men
to get out of his taxi if they were going to fight. The men continued to scuffle
in the parking lot while the woman ran inside to get cigarettes. When she
came out of the store, the trio loaded back up and headed home.
Key told the driver he needed to take the victim to the hospital, because
he was bleeding. The suspect then exited the taxi, and the driver took the
victim and his wife to the hospital.
On February 27, shortly after 11 a.m., officers stopped Key’s vehicle at
Oak and First Street. They spoke to him about the incident with his brother.
He told them he and his brother started fighting, and he noticed the man had
a knife. He wrestled the knife away from the man, but somehow, he stabbed
the victim several places on his head and body. He said his brother put him
in a headlock and he kept blacking out while trying to grab the knife.
Key is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
June 27, 2017.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

CONTEMPT OF COURT
A 34-year-old Stillwater man was locked
up in Perry after he allegedly attacked patrons with a 2x4 at a local bar on February
12.
According to the affidavit, a Perry officer
was dispatched to the bar in the 300 block
of N. Sixth at approximately 1:38 a.m. due
to a fight in progress. When he arrived, two
people told him a man inside the bar was
swinging around a 2x4 piece of wood, trying to hit people.
The officer walked into the bar and saw
several individuals trying to control a man
who appeared to be extremely intoxicated
and belligerent.
That man identified himself as Travis Clark.
While the officer was speaking with the man, he noticed that he smelled
strongly like alcohol. He placed the man under arrest for public intoxication and escorted him to the patrol car.
While they were walking, the officer asked Clark if he had anything on
him the officer should know about. Clark advised he had some marijuana
in his front left pocket. The officer located a black bag containing a green
leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana.
The officer spoke to another patron, who said Clark and another man
started arguing, and Clark was asked to leave the bar.
About 15 minutes after leaving, Clark barged back into the establishment with a 2x4 and hit a woman in the face.
Clark’s wife told the officer her husband and another man started arguing, so she went outside to her car and got ready to leave. Shortly after,
her husband joined her and they left the premises. The woman said they
started to head back to Stillwater when she came to a stop at the light on
Sixth and Fir. Her husband suddenly jumped out of the car and took off
running back to the bar. She didn’t know what else happened after that.
When they arrived at the jail, Clark told the officer, “I didn’t even have a
chance with that 2x4, ‘cause of them guys.”
Clark is being charged with assault, battery or assault and battery with
a dangerous weapon, possession of controlled dangerous substance
and public intoxication. His bond was set at $2,700, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on March 15, 2017.

The National Association
of Students Against Violence
Everywhere is a nonprofit
aiming to provide safer environments for our youth. Its
mission is to decrease the
potential for violence in our
schools and communities by
promoting meaningful student involvement, education
and service opportunities.
SAVE’s Vision: Schools and communities will be safer and more secure,
free of fear and conducive to learning as a result of students being actively involved in meaningful violence prevention efforts.
How It Got Started: SAVE was started by students in Charlotte, North
Carolina in 1989 after the tragic death of a classmate who was trying to
break up a fight at an off-campus party. A group of students who did not
want this death to be “just another statistic” took action and created a
violence prevention program.
Chapters: SAVE has evolved into a national association with chapters in elementary, middle and high schools as well as at colleges and
community organizations across the country. Today, there are more than
200,000 students involved nationwide.
Activities: Student members take the lead in planning chapter activities
by using the three SAVE Essential Elements: conducting crime prevention
activities, conducting conflict management activities and providing meaningful service through projects in schools and communities. SAVE chapters also plan safety rallies and safety awareness campaigns, engage in
peer mentoring to younger students, and conduct fun and educational
meetings.

Hennessey man Michael John Smith, 28, was
arrested when an officer found a pipe and some
weed in his vehicle during a traffic stop on February 10.
According to the police report, a state trooper
was traveling west on County Road 720 when he
met a vehicle traveling east at approximately 4:45
p.m. He noticed that the windshield on the truck
was cracked. As the vehicle continued past and
came to stop at a stop sign, the trooper also saw
that a third brake light was out.
The trooper followed the truck as it turned
north onto County Road 2830. He stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Smith.
The trooper asked the man for his license and insurance. Smith handed over his license and advised he couldn’t find the insurance. When the
trooper asked the man what happened to the windshield, Smith replied
it had always been like that.
The trooper then asked the man to step out of the truck. As he did,
the trooper saw a white pipe that appeared to be used for smoking
marijuana fall to the ground. He picked it up and asked Smith where the
rest of the illegal items were.
Smith retrieved a pill bottle from the driver’s side door panel and handed it to the trooper. Inside the bottle was a green leafy substance that
smelled like weed.
The trooper placed Smith under arrest and transported him to jail.
Smith is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to maintain insurance or security. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 27, 2017.
