the old rugged cross
21-year-old Enid man Victor Manuel Munoz
was locked up after he allegedly got high on
some THC gummy bears and attacked some
priests with a wooden cross on February 21.
According to reports, a priest said he was
praying inside a church in the 100 block of
N. Madison when Munoz walked in and said,
“Jesus forgive me.” He then tried to climb up
a tabernacle to get a large crucifix that was
mounted to the wall.
The priest pulled him down. Munoz started
saying the Lord’s Prayer and told the priest he
had just taken some edibles.
Everything was fine for a moment, but then Munoz went back to trying to
get the crucifix. The priest once again pulled him down. Munoz retreated
to a side room where he found a wooden crucifix. He swung the crucifix at
another priest, hitting him in the face. He also hit the first priest in the head.
They continued to struggle until Enid police arrived shortly after 3 p.m.
The priests told officers what happened and pointed toward Munoz,
who was walking in the 500 block of East Randolph carrying the wooden
crucifix. He refused officer’s commands to stop. The officers deployed
their Tasers several times at the man, who eventually fell down.
Munoz refused to drop the crucifix and clutched it to his body.
Officers stunned the man with their Tasers some more and forcibly removed the crucifix from his hands. As they helped him into the patrol vehicle, he kicked one of them. He had to be tased once more before he was
inside the vehicle.
Earlier that day, an officer was advised that a possibly high person was
leaving the hospital.
The man, identified as Munoz, was picked up by his cousin and started
reciting the Lord’s Prayer. He became angry when his 16-year-old cousin
forgot some of the words, and he slammed the car into park. The cousin
said Munoz then jumped out of the car and walked away. The cousin also
told officers that Munoz said he had taken some THC gummy bears. He
gave the cousin two gummy bears, which he consumed.
Munoz is being charged with two counts of assault and battery with
a dangerous weapon, battery on police officer, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of assault on police officer. His bond
was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 1, 2019.

Cleo Springs man accused of rape
A 23-year-old Cleo Springs man is in trouble for allegedly having sex with a teen in his
vehicle on February 11.
According to reports, a Woods County
deputy was dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked at the Freedom Airport
around 9:27 p.m. When he arrived, he saw
23-year-old James Carson Reeves climb
from the back of an SUV into the front driver’s
seat.
A 15-year-old girl was sitting in the back
of the vehicle. Reeves and the teen told the
deputy that they were just talking. He told
them they needed to go home.
On February 21, a deputy spoke to the
girl, who said that Reeves was a friend of her
cousin. She said they had been speaking on
Snapchat for a few months, and they planned to meet at the Freedom High
School. The girl said Reeves picked her up on February 11, and they drove
around for a while before he parked at the Freedom Airport. The girl said she
and Reeves kissed and had sex. She admitted to lying to the officer, but said
she was scared Reeves would get into trouble.
Law enforcement also spoke to Reeves, who said he had known the girl
since she was 8. He said they started communication on Snapchat a few
months prior, and he had exchanged lewd photos with the girl. Reeves said
he picked up the girl from the high school, and they had sexual intercourse in
the backseat of his vehicle.
When they saw the deputy’s headlights approach them, they put on their
clothes and said they were just talking. The man said he then drove the girl
back to her house.
Reeves is being charged with second-degree rape and two counts of lewd
or indecent acts to child under 16. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on April 9, 2019.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

March is National Youth Violence
Prevention Month
The National Association of Students
Against Violence Everywhere is a nonprofit
aiming to provide safer environments for
our youth. Its mission is to decrease the
potential for violence in our schools and
communities by promoting meaningful student involvement, education and service
opportunities.
SAVE’s Vision: Schools and communities will be safer and more secure, free of
fear and conducive to learning as a result of
students being actively involved in meaningful violence prevention efforts.
How It Got Started: SAVE was started by students in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1989 after the tragic death of a classmate who was trying to break up a
fight at an off-campus party. A group of students who did not want this death
to be “just another statistic” took action and created a violence prevention
program.
Chapters: SAVE has evolved into a national association with chapters in
elementary, middle and high schools as well as at colleges and community organizations across the country. Today, there are more than 200,000 students
involved nationwide.
Activities: Student members take the lead in planning chapter activities by
using the three SAVE Essential Elements: conducting crime prevention activities, conducting conflict management activities and providing meaningful service through projects in schools and communities. SAVE chapters also plan
safety rallies and safety awareness campaigns, engage in peer mentoring to
younger students, and conduct fun and educational meetings.

A 35-year-old Tulsa man entered a guilty
plea today in U.S. District Court for digitally
producing images depicting the sexual abuse
of children and distributing almost 500 other
graphic image and video files of the sexual
abuse of children, announced U.S. Attorney
Trent Shores.
At the plea hearing, Jerry Matthew Berry admitted to producing obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children and distributing child pornography in 2017 and 2018.
Cyber Crimes detectives from the Tulsa Police
Department and agents from Homeland Security Investigations discovered Berry’s illicit activities during a peer-to-peer file sharing undercover investigation. After executing a search warrant on Berry’s apartment,
investigators also discovered hundreds of additional images and videos
of child pornography on his phone. Berry, a former private school teacher
in Oklahoma City, admitted to distributing child pornography on file sharing programs. He also admitted to downloading pictures of children from
Facebook and digitally altering the photographs to depict himself sexually
assaulting and physically harming the children.
“Tulsa Police Department Cyber Crimes detectives and Homeland Security special agents are resilient and committed to the fight to defend our
children from online perpetrators. Their dedicated efforts enable the U.S.
Attorney’s Office to bring child sex offenders to justice,” said U.S. Attorney
Shores. “These days, parents must be ever vigilant because predators
like Mr. Berry are lurking about on the internet. The facts of this case are
a stark reminder that parents should check their privacy settings on social
media and be aware when posting photos of their children.”
U.S. District Judge Claire V. Eagan accepted Berry’s guilty plea and set
sentencing for May 7, at 10 a.m. At that time, Berry faces a mandatory
minimum sentence of 5 years and up to 20 years in federal prison, at least
five years and up to life of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine for each
count. He remains in custody.
The Tulsa Police Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney
Christopher J. Nassar prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative
launched in May 2006 by the United States Department of Justice to
combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led
by the United States Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child
Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

A man in Florida stole some medication out of his roommate’s lockbox. They
were labelled Hydrocodone. But, they weren’t. They weren’t opioids. They were
laxatives. And yes, he did find out the hard way. His roommate called the cops
when the pills went missing. He admitted he stole them and then threw the rest
out. So, not only did he get a horrible stomach ache, he was publicly humiliated... and arrested.
Also in Florida, a guy was with his wife. She was upset over an issue she was
having with a family member. She wanted to talk about it with him, but he went
into Taco Bell and got himself lunch instead. When he got back, he tried to give
his wife a burrito. But he was dangling it in front of her, making fun of her for
being so upset. That wasn’t a smart move... she grabbed it and threw it on the
floor. Apparently, that’s a fighting act. He picked up the burrito and shoved it in
her face and up her nose. He was arrested for battery... by a burrito.
In Kansas, a family was playing Monopoly and wound up getting into a fight.
It escalated and as two cousins were arguing, one guy’s girlfriend hit the other
cousin and shoved him into a mirror. Then she took off running. The guy went
to the hospital for stitches but they are still looking for the girlfriend who is now
wanted on assault charges. And you know, when they catch her, she will have
to go directly to jail... without passing go... and without collecting her 200 dollars.
A guy was pulled over in Florida for having a light out. But, he was on probation and driving with a suspended license so he decided to make a run for
it. He ditched his car and tried to hide from police under a tree in a field. And it
may have worked if it weren’t for some crime fighting horses. There were three
horses that apparently didn’t like him in their field and started chasing him. He
hopped a fence, where he was promptly taken into custody.
A man was caught on surveillance footage sitting in front of a porterhouse
steak, a lobster tail and a 20-ounce beer in a California restaurant before pocketing the hunk of meat and walking out.
“What type of person will take a steak and watch the juice drip off and then
wrap it in a linen napkin?” said House of Beef lead server Denise Loya. “It’s just
highly unusual.”
Loya said the man dressed in a suit came into the Oakdale restaurant and
asked for a table for four. She said he looked like a villain from an ‘80s movie.
“Definitely a used car salesman or bad real estate agent. Slimeball,” she told
KTXL.
His actions were just as animated. The video shows his eyes shifting constantly as he looks up at the surveillance camera and over his shoulder.
“Just keep your eyes on this person ‘cause his eyes, you can see him, you
know, he’s watching,” said the restaurant’s owner, Steve Medlen.
One last look into the camera and the man picks up the slab of meat then
folds it into the napkin lifted from the bread basket. He’s unethical,” Medlen
said. “He’s out to commit a crime.”
Medlen said he decided to post the video on social media to catch the steak
smuggler.
“The monetary part is not part of the equation,” he told KTXL. “The part that
we want to do is take this person off the street.”
In the final moments, the man picks up his haul and walks away, all while a
little girl watches in his direction.
“Be great if he would come in and pay his bill and apologize but I highly doubt
that’s gonna happen,” Loya said.
The staff said if he had truly been starving they would have helped.
“We always help people,” Loya said. “When they come in off the streets, we
will buy them a bowl of soup or a sandwich.”
The staff says that was a $56 meal. The owner did file a police report with the
Oakdale Police Department but no arrests had been made.

Running interference
A 34-year-old Perry man allegedly resisted officers and
firemen’s orders to stay away from a burning vehicle on
February 20. Kraig Kenneth Soap claimed his family was
inside, even though the car was empty.
According to the police report, Noble County deputies
were dispatched to a residence on Private Road 136 at
approximately 9:37 p.m. to investigate a burning vehicle.
When they arrived, they saw a vehicle engulfed in flames
near a residence.
Acting quickly, the deputies evacuated the people from
inside the home.
While getting everyone to safety, one of the deputies
saw a shirtless man, later identified as Soap, loitering inside the house. Soap eventually walked out of the residence and approached the vehicle, stating that his family was inside it.
Members of the Perry Fire Department yelled for the man to get away from the car,
but Soap reached for the door handle with his bare hands. At this point, the vehicle
was covered in flames and extremely hot.
Soap refused to back away from the vehicle no matter how much the fire department yelled at him. They even sprayed water near him in an attempt to shield him from
the blaze.
Deputies approached the man and again asked him to step away from the burning
vehicle. Soap resisted and kept reaching for the door handle.
A deputy grabbed the man and pulled him away. Soap uttered some tribal gangrelated terms and said he wanted to kill the Indian Brother Hood. The deputy was able
to put the man on the ground and place him in handcuffs.
On the way to jail, Soap tried to break the back window of the patrol car. He remained violent and continued to resist when they arrived at the jail, so he was placed
in a holding cell until he calmed down.
Records state the man is a convicted aggravated sex offender and had recently
been released from prison for first-degree rape, obstruction of a peace officer and
probation violations.
Soap is being charged with interfering with fireman. His bond was set at $5,000,
and he was scheduled to appear in court on March 7, 2019.
