WHITE RABBIT
An Enid woman was taken into custody last
month after she struck a man with her SUV and
left the scene because “she was late for work.”
Jyotsnaben Patel, 46, was charged February
28 with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and reckless driving, in Garfield County
District Court.
According to reports, on February 20, at around
6:15 a.m., the victim was crossing the street on W. Wabash when he was allegedly struck by Patel, who was driving an Infiniti QX 60 SUV. Video from the
nearby church showed the SUV turn eastbound from S. Van Buren onto Wabash
as the victim was crossing the street. After the SUV struck the victim, a woman
driver got out of the vehicle, looked at the victim lying in the road, and then got
back into the SUV and quickly drove away.
A witness, who provided the video of the incident, did a little investigating of
his own and found the SUV in the parking lot of the hospital, which was a block
and a half away from the scene.
When questioned by police, Patel allegedly told officers the reason she left
was because she was late for work at the hospital.
Patel was taken into custody and booked into the Garfield County jail.
The victim was taken by helicopter to OU Medical in Oklahoma City with internal bleeding, broken ribs, and other serious injuries. After a week in the hospital,
he was released and is resting at home.
Bond for Patel was set at $15,000 and was ordered to next appear in court

VOODOO WOMAN
Alva woman Holley Ann Ortiz, 37, is being
charged with a felony after she allegedly keyed
her ex-husband’s truck in January.
According to reports, the woman’s ex-husband
filed a report against his ex on January 30 at the
Alva Police Department. He told an officer he let
his ex-wife and her son do some laundry at his
house, which was located on Center Street.
The man said he told Ortiz not to be talking about “voodoo stuff” while she
was in his home. She didn’t listen, however, and she started talking about voodoo stuff while she was doing laundry.
The man told her he didn’t want to hear about it. He also said if she was going
to keep talking about voodoo stuff, she needed to leave. He said he got some
clothes from the dryer and put them next to her so she could go. He also went
to retrieve some clothes from the dryer, but Ortiz followed him and forcefully
removed them from his hands. He told her to leave.
The man said Ortiz then elbowed him in the mouth. He yelled for her son to
come get her multiple times.
Ortiz yelled at the man and slapped him in the face several times. The son
eventually came to see what was going on. The man said he told the son to get
his mom out of the house before he punched her in the face.
The woman’s son then tried to push the man down. He also tried to punch
him, but he missed.
Ortiz told the man that she would kill him and his family at her will. He then
started to record the altercation.
A police officer watched the recording. He heard Ortiz say that she knew a guy
who would kill the man. She also said that she would have the man’s daughter’s
head cut off.
The recording showed Ortiz and her son get into a vehicle. She drove the car
very close to the man’s truck. The man ran over to see what she was doing, and
he realized she was keying his truck. She caused approximately $1,200 worth
of damage to the man’s vehicle.
Ortiz is being charged with malicious injury to property over $1,000, domestic
abuse - assault & battery, and threaten to perform act of violence. Her bond was
set at $3,500, and she is scheduled to appear in court on March 12, 2024.
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

AROUND THE NATION
News Flash! Trucks don’t surf!
A New York man was arrested and charged in
Florida after authorities caught him driving his pickup truck into the ocean at New Smyrna Beach, just
south of Daytona Beach, early on Tuesday.
A video shared by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office
shows a person driving a white pickup truck into the
water — sometimes driving alongside the waves and other times against it — and
even attempting to perform a donut.
The driver — later identified as 49-year-old Jason Brzuszkiewicz, of Bridgeport,
N.Y. — is then seen off the water chatting with deputies, who informed him the
beach was closed due to high tides.
Bodycam video also shows Brzuszkiewicz attempting to hide from a camera by
covering part of his face with a black baseball cap. He then tells an officer that he’s
not really the one to blame. “It’s not my fault truck don’t surf!” he says.
“Yeah, but you shouldn’t be driving on the beach when the gates are all closed,”
one deputy responds.
“I thought I was in England,” Brzuszkiewicz says.
When the deputy confirms they are not in England, Brzuszkiewicz’s response gets
even more colorful.
“We are not in Kansas, anymore?” he asks, using the famous Judy Garland line
from 1939’s MGM classic “The Wizard of Oz” — before laughing at his own joke.
According to the sheriff’s office, Brzuszkiewicz “drove around a closed gate
marked DO NOT ENTER and
accessed the beach in New
Smyrna Beach.”
He was ultimately charged
with a violation of the Volusia
County Ordinance — failure to
pay vehicular access fee — and
then taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $200 bond.

Man arrested for making multiple threats
On February 3, a church member from a
church near 5th and S. Memorial called police
about threats of mass murder made on his congregation.
The church member said he came into contact with Ruben Marquez at a
gas station near 11th and 169th. The church member said Marquez told him
that he was going to use his guns to kill everyone at the church, including
women and children.
The investigation revealed that in January, the church member made a police report after Marquez made similar threats and blamed the church for
breaking up his marriage.
Ruben Marquez was taken into custody at his home, not far from the
church. He was arrested for Threatening an Violent Act.
