DUS OBSTRUCTING OFFICER DUS NO DRIVERS LICENSE
An Enid man received felony DUI
charges Aug. 22 after a traffic stop
conducted Aug. 14.
An Enid police officer pulled over a
white Chevrolet Impala after it almost
collided with a tan pickup. The driver,
Angel Amador Coronado, 24, smelled
like alcohol, had red watery eyes and
could not walk well, according to the
affidavit.
Coronado told the officer his brother
was driving him, but Coronado
exited the car from the driver’s side.
Coronado also declined to perform a field sobriety test.
When the officer told Coronado he was under arrest, he also
found out Coronado’s license was suspended. During a search
of the vehicle, officers found a red SOLO cup with beer inside
and an open bottle of Azul tequila in the backseat.
Coronado refused to take a breath test, but this was not his
first DUI. Coronado got his first DUI in 2006 and received a
one-year suspended jail sentence. He has also pleaded guilty
to possession of a controlled substance, two counts of public
intoxication, two counts of escaping detention, three counts
of driving under suspension and another instance of DUI. On
his second DUI, he was sentenced to six months in Garfield
County Jail with the rest of his five-year sentence carried out
in probation.
When Coronado received his latest DUI charge, state
attorneys filed paperwork to revoke his probation. He was
out of jail for two weeks before his most recent arrest, court
records show. For a felony DUI, he faces one to five years in
prison.
Coronado was released from jail on a $5,000 bond Aug. 24
and has a court appearance set at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 12.

Death Row
Michael Dewayne Smith
Michael DeWayne Smith was a member of the
Oak Grove Posse, a subset of the Crips gang in
Oklahoma City. On November 8, 2000, three
members of the Oak Grove Posse attempted to rob
Tran’s Food Mart in south Oklahoma City. The
three robbers were Teron “T-Nok” Armstrong,
Kenneth “Peanut” Kinchion, and Dewayne
“Pudgy-O” Shirley. During the course of the
robbery attempt, the owner of the store shot and
killed Armstrong. Kinchion and Shirley were
eventually arrested. Smith was not involved in the
attempted robbery but had close personal ties to
Armstrong.
On Friday, February 22, 2002, two days before
the trial of Kinchion and Shirley was scheduled to start, Smith left his apartment in
the Del Mar Apartments in Oklahoma City early in the morning. His roommate,
Marcus Berry (also known as Marcus Compton), saw Smith take a .357 caliber
revolver with him. Smith went fi rst to Janet Moore’s apartment looking for her
son Phillip Zachary who he believed was a police informant. Smith had earlier told
Berry that “snitches need to be dead.”
The evidence supports the conclusion that Smith arrived at Moore’s apartment
sometime before 6:30 a.m. Shoe prints indicated that Smith kicked in her front
door and then her bedroom door. Moore began screaming, and, at approximately
6:30 a.m., a downstairs neighbor heard arguing between a man and a woman and
then a single “pop” followed by footsteps.
Later that morning around 7:30 a.m. Smith arrived at A-Z Mart, a convenience
store approximately fi fteen miles from the Del Mar Apartments. A-Z Mart was
immediately next door to Tran’s Food Mart, the site of the earlier robbery attempt
where Armstrong had been killed. The clerk on duty that morning at A-Z Mart
was Sarath “Babu” Pulluru. Pulluru was fi lling in for the store owner who was
taking the day off. Smith told detectives that he emptied two pistols into Pulluru,
took some money, and used bottles of Ronsonol lighter fl uid to start fi res in the
store. Smith said he set fi re to the cash register, Pulluru’s body, and a back room
in order to destroy evidence. Shoeprints at the scene tracked Pulluru’s blood from
the cash register area, where his body was found, down the aisle to where the
Ronsonol lighter fl uid was displayed for sale. The bloody shoe prints at the A-Z
Mart were similar to the shoe prints found at Moore’s apartment.

A traffic stop helped bust an alleged
marijuana dealer in Enid on Aug. 22.
Around 4:20 p.m. that day, an Enid police
officer saw a maroon Ford Escort and pulled
it over because the driver was not wearing a
seatbelt. The driver admitted to not wearing
his seatbelt as well as having neither a valid
license nor valid insurance.
The driver told the officer his name was
Judd Julian, 22. Julian had a suspended
driver’s license and two municipal warrants.
The officer then asked the names of
Julian’s passengers. One stated his name was Richard Johnson,
but his name was, in reality, Dashawn Neal, 21. Neither had
outstanding warrants so they were initially free to go.
However, during an impound inventory on the Escort, officers
smelled marijuana coming from the trunk. A white ice chest inside
the trunk had several bags of marijuana and a set of scales. Officers
arrested Neal and his companion, Kegan Buckley, 18, for drug
possession. During a frisk of the pair, officers found three Lortab
pills in Buckley’s pockets and 10 Adderall pills in Neal’s possession.
Julian said he did not know who the marijuana belonged to.
Buckley also denied ownership of the drug. During another
questioning, Julian said some picture frames in his trunk belonged
to Neal, who he also said was one of his passengers.
During Neal’s questioning, Neal admitted ownership of the ice
chest and marijuana and said he did not want others to get in
trouble for it. Neal had a license with the name “Richard Johnson”
on it, saying that Johnson left it at his house and that he was
holding onto it.
All were booked at the Garfield County Jail, where officers
determined they had 76 grams of marijuana in their possession.
Neal faces charges of false personation and possession of a
controlled substance with intent to distribute. He posted a $15,000
bond Aug. 30 and has a court date set for 1:15 p.m. Oct. 24.

Fifteen years ago, on July 26, 1997, 19-year-old
Tiffany Johnston was abducted from the Sunshine
Car Wash at 7709 N. W. 23rd in Bethany. Her
vehicle was found abandoned at the car wash. Her
body was found the next day on Gregory Road in
Canadian County two-tenths of a mile south of
Interstate 40.
Bethany Police Department requested OSBI assist with the
homicide investigation. The medical examiner’s offi ce ruled the
Bethany resident died of strangulation.
OSBI agents and Bethany detectives have conducted numerous
interviews concerning the disappearance and murder of Johnston.
In late 2005, the case became inactive with no more leads to follow.
Last year, the agent assigned the case retired. Johnston’s case has
now been reassigned. That agent is currently pouring through case
fi les and has requested a reward be offered to focus attention on the
murder and, perhaps, create new leads. This is the second time a
reward has been offered.
The OSBI is now offering up to a $10,000 reward for information
leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for
Tiffany Johnston’s murder. If you have any information helpful in
this case, please call the OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A Marland man, Travis Young, 39, was
charged with first-degree robbery, assault
&/or battery with a dangerous weapon,
destruction of evidence, and malicious
injury to property under $1000 in Noble
County District Court August 17.
According to the police affidavit, Noble
County Deputy John Brandt was called
to Perry Memorial Hospital about a 17
year-old who had been beaten up by
his girlfriend’s brother and father. He
explained the brother and he began to
fight. While on the ground locked in battle,
Young stomped on his face with the bottom of his shoe. The victim
said he did not remember how many times he was kicked and
stomped on, but even after he said he had had enough, Young kept
kicking him.
A witness told the deputy he saw the whole fight and recorded
some of it on his phone. As Young and his son were leaving, Young
grabbed the phone out of the witness’ hand and put it in his pocket.
When the witness objected, Young replied, “What the f**k are you
going to do about it?”
Later, Brandt received several calls from dispatch saying Young
and his son were harassing relatives of the victim, calling out
profanities and racing up and down their road, but by the time
Brandt arrived, they had already left the area.
A couple more hours passed and dispatch was still getting calls
about the Youngs harassing the victim’s family. When he arrived
again, witnesses said they followed the vehicle and it drove through
a large field south of them. Brandt drove through the field and
located an ATV parked along the tree line. He called out to them,
but instead, he got a call from dispatch just then that Young had
called and reported that Brandt was trespassing on his property
and wanted him to leave immediately.
Brandt called Young and Young immediately freaked out, telling
Brandt to get off his property, that he was going to kick the deputy’s
ass, and called him a f**king pig, among other things. Brandt then
left the property and waited at the end of the road with his lights
off. Soon he saw ATV moving through the field in the moonlight.
He flicked on his headlights and the ATV took off for the house.
Brandt later found him hiding between a truck and an outbuilding.
After speaking to Young and his son, he left the residence
without arresting them if they promised to stay at the house until
he finished his investigation. They agreed.
Around 1:00 p.m. later that day, Brandt interviewed the two men
again and asked them about the fight. Young said he knew nothing
about the fight and he wasn’t there. Brandt placed him under arrest
and transported him the the Noble County Jail. On the way, Young
said, “If this is about the phone, I will buy the kid a new one.”

As the summer heat rages on,
and rain seems to be a distant
memory for much of the state, fires
are becoming an everyday occurrence across Oklahoma. Many of
these could be prevented, and this month I’ll talk about a few ways to
cut down on the possibility of inadvertently starting a fire that may
destroy lives and property.
One of the things Trooper’s see almost every day is the cigarette toss
out the window. For some reason, people don’t want to extinguish
their cigarettes and put them in an ashtray in their car; they just flick
them out the window. What you are saying when you do that is, you
don’t care about the people in that area, or their property. Every time
you throw one of those out, you take a chance of starting a fire that
can devastate a community. If you smoke, use an ashtray or some
type of container in your car to keep your butts in, don’t throw it
out. If a Trooper sees you throw one out, expect the very expensive
citation that comes with that charge!
Another thing that has started fires are things like safety chains on
trailers being too long, and dragging on the pavement. This causes
sparks, which is all it takes to get our drought-stricken grass to burn.
Also, keep bearings greased, as a seized bearing has been known to
spark and cause fires. Be careful driving a car through tall grass, as
the catalytic converter on cars gets hot enough to catch grass on fire.
OBEY THE BURN BAN! Yes, this means you! No reason that you
can justify burning trash, brush piles, having a campfire, or open
grill will be adequate to the people who lose a home when it gets
out of control. If you are violating a burn ban, you are telling your
neighbors that you just don’t care about them or their property.
Also, be alert and aware of what is going on around you. Arson is
certainly a cause of several wildfires across our state. Alert motorists
can help catch an arsonist before they do too much damage, but only
if you are a good witness. Try to get a good description of the person,
their vehicle, a tag if possible, clothing they are wearing, etc, and try
to get that info to law enforcement as soon as you can! You could be
the difference between someone losing a home or just having a close
call.
Lastly, go and thank a firefighter or law enforcement officer for
the work they have been doing recently. These men and women
are battling every day to save lives and property, and getting people
out of harm’s way, in extreme conditions. I know that many of you
donate water and food, and on behalf of all of us in the Emergency
Response community, we thank you for that! Thanks for reading,
buckle up, and be safe!

The OSBI has fielded many inquiries about why gun licensing
is taking longer than usual.
In April 2012, when OSBI
reported FY 2012 3rd Quarter
numbers, the bureau’s Self Defense Act (SDA) unit was processing applications without
exceptions (no problems with
fingerprints, arrest records, etc.)
within 52 days of receipt. In the
month of May, processing time increased to 60 days, in early June
it surpassed 60 days, and in late June to over 90. OSBI is holding
steady at a processing time of approximately 97 days and is diligently
working to bring down that number.
To process the onslaught of applications more quickly, OSBI has
hired three new employees, established a temporary night shift effective August 1, 2012, and added two additional temporary employees. The bureau is utilizing every available employee in every division to assist SDA with the volume of applications received.
SB 1733, which makes it legal for SDA license holders to openly
carry handguns starting November 1, 2012, was signed by Governor
Fallin on May 15, 2012. Increases in applications preceded the signing of the law, but information regarding the proposed legislation
was prominent in the news before the bill’s passage and may have
impacted the interest of potential SDA applicants. OSBI expects applications to rise even more due to the recent shooting massacre in
Colorado.
The state currently has 127,445 active approved license holders.
OSBI regrets any inconvenience this unprecedented backlog may
have caused gun license applicants and those renewing their license.
As stated above, the bureau is utilizing as many resources as possible
to resolve the problem.

FACT:
Drugs and alcohol cause
sexual offenses to occur.
False. While drugs and alcohol are
often involved in sexual assaults, drugs
and alcohol do not cause sexual offenses
to occur. Rather, drug and alcohol use may
be a disinhibitor for the offender, while
being under the influence may increase a

On August 14, an OSBI agent filed
an affidavit for one count of enabling
child sexual abuse against the mother
of a young sexual assault victim from
Kingfisher County. The girl had been
molested by her 35-year-old uncle,
Matthew Mallory, since age 9 at his
home near Okarche where all three
lived.
When authorities began
investigating their relationship more
than a year ago, when the girl was 14,
Mallory and the girl ran to Texas. The
two were found and brought back to
Kingfisher County where Mallory
faced multiple felony charges.
When interviewed early in the
investigation by an OSBI agent, the
victim’s mother, Angela Mellissa
Tuszynski, 32, described the
relationship between her daughter
and Mallory as more like husband
and wife rather than uncle and niece.
She further stated that her daughter
and Mallory slept in the same
bedroom while she slept on the couch in the living room.
Tuszynski also knew that Mallory was a lifetime registered
sex offender and spent time in prison for sexually abusing a
young female.
That next evening, Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputies
arrested Tuszynski on the felony warrant. She was transferred
to the Kingfisher County jail to answer to the child sexual
abuse charge.

Oh, wow, there’s
A traffic stop in Kingfisher County end
a bow wowed with two arrests for drug charges Aug.
21.
At 1:15 a.m. that day, Sgt. Travis Gray
initiated a traffic stop with a white Nissan
because it had expired tags. The driver,
Dustin Blocker, 26, could not prove that
he had current insurance for the Nissan,
Gray said. Blocker said he was on his way
to meet a woman, but as he had no valid
insurance, Gray told him he would impound his car.
While another officer wrote the citations, Gray walked his K-9 dog around
the truck. Blocker’s passenger, Donald
Messner, 55, was digging through the
glove compartment with the door open.
When Messer saw the K-9, he said, “Oh
wow”, knowing what was about to happen. The K-9 alerted officers to an odor in
the Nissan’s center console. Messner then
admitted to using methamphetamine,
which was fitting since the K-9 can smell
marijuana, meth, heroine and cocaine.
Blocker denied having drugs that belonged to him in the vehicle, but he said “illegal things” were going on at Messner’s while he was there.
Gray searched the truck, finding an eyeglass case with three syringes inside. He also found a spoon with methamphetamine on
it, a large torch lighter, a two-way radio and a computer component, according to the affidavit.
Blocker then admitted to buying the drugs at Messner’s.
Messner and Blocker were then transported to jail. Blocker and
Messner posted $15,000 bond each. They have a court date set
for 2 p.m. Sept. 10.

A Major County man faces felony
assault charges after getting into a fight
with his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend on
Aug. 5.
Fairview Assistant Police Chief Drew
Baker reported receiving a phone call
about a woman who claimed she had been
beat up by her boyfriend. When Baker
arrived at the new boyfriend’s home in
the 300 block of South 5th, he saw the
man bleeding from a wound near his
right eye. The victim said his girlfriend,
whom he referred to as a “crazy b**ch,”
had hit him with a cane during an argument.
Baker left the victim’s home to get a camera to photograph
his wounds. When he arrived back at the house, he didn’t see
the victim anywhere, but heard someone calling his name. He
followed the voice to the side of the house and saw the victim
holding Spencer Quiring, 42, on the ground.
The victim’s girlfriend used to date Quiring for 12 years before
beginning her relationship with her new boyfriend, according to
the affidavit. Baker also reported that Quiring has children with
the girlfriend.
The victim, who was covered in more blood than before,
demanded Quiring’s arrest for assault and battery after claiming
Quiring hit him with a bat. The victim was then transported to
the hospital.
Despite the injuries and claims of the victim and his girlfriend,
Quiring was not arrested at the scene. The affidavit was filed
Aug. 14 and Quiring was arrested Aug. 28.
Quiring posted a bond the next day. He has previous charges
of obstructing an officer, arson, driving under the influence and
threatening violence. He received a five-year deferred sentence
for the arson charge.
Quiring will next appear in court at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 26.
