Growing up
too fast
An Enid juvenile faces
some pretty grown-up
charges in district court
after his arrest for felony
charges Aug. 10.
Just after 2:15 a.m. that
day, Enid police officers
went to a home in the city
after receiving a burglary
and shots fired report. Detective Shawn Ramsey, who
was on a special assignment
nearby, also responded to
the scene and found a teenager trying to hide in a bush. When
he turned toward the teen, the suspect jumped over a wall into
an enclosed area near the local hospital. When backup arrived,
Ramsey caught the teen and Larry Page, 16, who were both arrested. The teen was not charged, however. During the arrest,
police found a .44 Magnum handgun.
During an interview, the first teen said he was walking to the
Conoco gas station to meet a friend but lingered around an
apartment complex after hearing a gunshot. Soon after, he saw
Page, who he knew from high school. Page was carrying a gun,
and the pair ran when they saw the police car because they were
out past curfew, he said. Despite running, the teen said he knew
nothing about a burglary or the gunshot.
Page, in his interview, said he had only fired a .380 weapon earlier that day. However, he did say he tagged along with
friends while they went to get drug money they were owed, adding that the group gave him the gun to fire into the air if they
heard anything. One person was in the garage and two other
teens broke into the house, white T-shirts pulled over their
heads. When he saw the two men run out of the house following
a fight with the residents, he fired a shot and ran, Page said.
Page faces charges of first-degree burglary, reckless use of a
firearm and using a firearm while committing a felony. No one
else was charged in relation to the incident, records show.
Page remains in custody on a $250,000 bond. He has court
set for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1.

Turner’s taser
tribulation
An Enid woman learned what should
be a common sense rule Aug. 10: don’t
steal a cop’s taser. Just before 6:30
p.m. that day, three Enid police officers responded to an assault call at a
residence. While en route, they were
told the woman, Heather Turner, 26,
was driving a red GMC pickup.
Upon arriving, police saw the pickup
on the side of the road near the 2600
block of North Grand Street. Turner, who was in the car, said she was
parked because her pickup started to
break down. A check of her license revealed she had a bench warrant from Garfield County, so she was
arrested on the spot.
However, while another officer took Turner to the county jail,
he had to put handcuffs back on her. He parked, took her out of
the car and tried to do so, but she pulled her hands away. After a
few instances of this, the officer pulled out his Taser, turned it on
and told Turner he would use it if she didn’t comply.
Once she began to comply, the officer put his Taser on the roof
of the patrol car. While attempting to handcuff her, she took the
Taser and pointed it at him. She then fired it, saying, “Oh wow,
huh, would you look at that. That sure sucks doesn’t it.” During
the incident, both Taser probes stuck into the officer’s right palm,
according to the affidavit.
Afterward, he forced Turner to the ground, cuffing her while his
knees were on her back to prevent further altercations.
Turner faces charges of assault and battery on a police officer,
assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting an officer
and driving under revocation. She posted a $12,000 bond Aug. 19
and will next appear in court at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 30.

Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

What you’re saying
about this on...
Tucker W: These children need new
homes ASAP
Krysta R: Why do people like this get
a second chance? Isn’t one time getting
caught forcing kids to live in filth enough?
Dustin H: Poor babies
Beulah M: Not with any relatives don’t
sound like they know to clean or take care of
kids, this includes granny!
Moonbaby D: Omg. Whats wrong with
people!!
Carmen R: Apparently not in
Oklahoma..... you can get by with anything
even murder. RIDICULOUS
Jo Ann D: Poor kids
Cheryl T: 2nd time?? Smh
Tonya R: Really sad that most of these
jailbirds post are abused children....Get it
together people!
Carmen R: And why wasn’t the great state of Oklahoma and its DHS checking up
on them? Utter ignorance.
Courtney O: They were checking on
them, says in the caption that they found
them while they were there on a “welfare
check”. There is nothing wrong with OK
DHS, they were doing their job.
Lea C: And why do these people keep
bringing more innocent children into that
life. Speechless
BekanMike S: Let’s pray the kids get
taken away for good.. to loving family who
will bless them with decent home an love
Sara M: I get paranoid letting my
daughter play in mud
Brittney M: So lets NOT give them
back to them a third time. Come on DHS,
get your sh*t together!!!
Sharon G: Its not just oklahoma its the
dhs workers they need to do their dang job
an look in to stuff like that
Rich L: On a recent Tulsa TV news thread
a family member of contestant #3, (the
older lady most recently arrested), defended
the couple and decided to call everyone who
stated the obvious about the couple “stupid”,
“uniformed” and my favorite “examples of
the public school system in Tulsa”. Gotta
love people sometimes!
Sara M: I also get paranoid when grass
gets on my child. Im paranoid shes gonna
get chiggers or step in poop. Yes im a very
paranoid mother. But I dont let it control me
lol but still I get anxious when my daughter
only pees a little in her diaper. If she still
smells like a poopy or diaper I have to give
her a bath. If there is a smidgen of trash on
the floor I freak out.
David A: wow i hope the kids are going to be ok! fine parents we have.some people
should not have kids...
Emmy B: There’s a difference in a kid
that’s dirty from playing outside and lives
in a cluttered (but sanitary) home and a
child that is left to live in filth...it’s healthy
for kids to play outdoors and indoors but its
unhealthy for children to be brought up in
the conditions that were reported. My God
feces on the floor!!! it’s only teaching those
kids that it’s acceptable to live like that as an
adult. There’s no excuse for adults that are
too lazy to clean.
Nikole T: No one wants to work for
DHS bc it’s SUPER low pay, terrible hours,
and you see horrific things every day. No,
they shouldn’t have been returned to the
home, but my goodness....stop being so
judgmental. Be the change you wish to see
in the world!!! I dare any of you to go work
for DHS and fix it.
KIDS FOUND IN FILTH TAKEN AWAY
FOR SECOND TIME
Prosecutors have filed
charges against three people
after Tulsa Police found
three children living in filth
last week.
Matthew Prior and Angela
Prior each face one count of
child neglect.
Police went to their home in
the 1200 block of North 76th
East Avenue on Tuesday,
August 6, 2013 on a welfare
check.
According to a Tulsa Police report, officers found the couple’s three children in a
filthy home, with cockroaches, rotting food and feces on the floor.
Prosecutors also charged the children’s grandmother with child neglect. According
to investigators, Janet Marie Friend, 57, is the primary caregiver of three children
-- ages 5, 3 and 2.
The children were removed in February because of the filth but were returned in
May.
All three are in the Tulsa County jail with bonds of more than $150,000 each. The
children are in DHS custody.

A Pawnee man’s ploy to fool a Noble
County deputy backfired on him after evidence of his crime was later revealed.
Paul Bruce, 29, of Pawnee, was charged
Aug. 28 with entering with the intent to
steal copper, eluding/attempting to elude
police officer, and altering a license place/
decal in Noble County District Court.
According to the police affidavit, Noble
County Deputy Robert King was traveling
northbound on Highway 177 near Lariat
Road when he observed a vehicle’s head- lights in an abandoned oilfield site. When
the deputy applied his brakes to check
out the lights, the vehicle, which turned out to be a Chevy 2500
truck, pulled out onto the highway and took off south at a high
rate of speed.
King, guessing something was up, activated his lights and pur- sued the truck. When they got to the railroad tracks just north of
Highway 64, the truck had to stop and turn around because of
an approaching train.
Heading north, the truck reached speeds of up to 100 mph and
passed multiple cars on the highway. Suddenly, the truck veered
off onto a county road and the deputy soon had to call off the
chase due to the condition of the road.
As King made his way back to the highway, he spotted the truck
and the chase started again, only this time the roads were so bad,
King high-centered his patrol car and a wrecker had to be called.
When King was back up and running, he met with Deputy
Wingo and they fond the truck abandoned with the keys still in
the ignition. The deputies then found mail with Bruce’s name on
it and a large amount of copper wires in the bed.
The deputies processed the scene and Pawnee County dispatch
informed them that no one was at the address on the mail.
The next day, a Pawnee County deputy told King and Wingo
that he had made contact with Bruce and that Bruce had report- ed the truck as stolen.
Bruce later showed up at the Noble County Sheriff’s office to
make a report, but instead, after being positively identifed as the
man in the truck, ended up confessing to the copper crime and
was booked into the Noble County jail.

Pets seldom catch much press as
it relates to vehicles, but we have
our pets in our vehicles all the
time. To many, they are a part of the family, and go with us on
trips, to run errands around town, or just out for a ride. Just as we
treat them as part of the family, we have a responsibility to them,
including doing everything we can to keep them safe while in our
vehicles.
This summer, we have been very fortunate in the temperature
department! Only a few days so far have hit triple digits, we’ve had
pretty good rain, and it has been nice. With the temperatures lower
than they have been in the last few years at this time...it could be
easy to forget that as long as the sun is shining, the temperature
inside a parked car can still rise to dangerous levels. Leaving a pet
in the vehicle for as little as 15 minutes can end up having tragic
consequences. Even when the outside temps are in the 70’s, the
temperatures in a closed up vehicle can reach the 90’s or higher. The
best solution is to leave your pet at home. If that is just not possible,
or you choose not to, make sure that your pet has water, and leave
the vehicle running with the air conditioning on. Make sure you
don’t leave your pet for long, because the AC could go out, and then
your pet is stuck in a vehicle that is hot, and is also blowing hot air!
Many people let their dogs ride in the bed of their pickup. We’ve
all seen those dogs with their face into the wind, riding in the back
of the pickup. Please remember that the bed of those pickups are
metal, and even if they are covered by a bed liner or similar product,
the temperature can heat up the bed so hot as to be extremely
painful to your pet’s paws! Again, best solution is to leave the pet at
home, but if take them with
you, use a kennel or crate. This keeps the pet up off the hot bed
of the pickup, and also eliminates the possibility of the pet jumping
out, or even the potential of biting someone who gets too close to
the truck!
Speaking of crates, they aren’t a bad idea for inside the cab either.
Ever see a dog in the lap of a driver? Obviously this is not safe, the
pet can distract the driver, or even interfere with the safe operation
of the vehicle. This puts everyone at risk, so if you are going to
travel with your pet, make sure they don’t contribute to an accident,
and keep them out of the driver’s area!
This a just a few tips. The internet has plenty more, so please
educate yourself if traveling with pets. Thanks for reading, buckle
up, and be safe!

death row
David Magnan
David Magnan, 50, who admitted to
intentionally killing 2 women, a man, and
injuring another, was granted a release in
June on a court’s order due to a technicality.
Magnan pled guilty in Seminole County
District Court to three counts of 1st-degree
murder and one count of shooting with
intent to kill on March 3, 2004. He was
sentenced to death by lethal injection.
But Magnan’s conviction was overturned
by the 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals
after it was determined the triple homicide
had taken place on an Indian reservation
- offi cial Native American land where the
state technically has no authority or jurisdiction.
Only federal and tribal laws have prosecutorial authority on reservation
territory - providing a legal loophole in this case.
Therefore, Magnan, a member the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux
tribes, was removed from death row at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary
in McAlester, where he’d been for nearly 10 years.
The judgment came with the presumption that federal authorities will
intercede and re-arrest and prosecute Magnan, given the homicidal
nature of the crimes and admitted guilt in the triple murder and
wounding of other members of the Seminole Nation.
If he is ever tried federally though, it’s likely Magnan will not face the
death penalty as it is rarely imposed in federal courts.
The killings occurred in 2004 inside an inherited Seminole residence,
where family and friends had gathered to celebrate a birthday. Magnan
drove to the home with two other men, where he shot and injured Eric
Coley who’d come outside to speak to him.
Court records state Magnan then entered the house, noticed James
Howard, said “goodbye,” and shot him.
Karen Wolf and Lucilla McGirt were also shot. Lucilla died from
complications stemming from her gunshot wound two weeks later.

McDonald’s employee
busted for embezzlement
A Kingfisher woman faces felony embezzlement
charges after she reportedly stole over $16,000
from McDonald’s over the course of a year.
Michelle McFarland, 40, was charged with embezzlement Sept. 10 in Kingfisher County District
Court.
According to the police affidavit, the co-owner
of the McDonald’s in Kingfisher reported to police
that an employee had been taking money by issuing
refunds and over-rings. The employee, McFarland,
denied the accusations at first, but when confronted with evidence, she admitted to her crimes.
An investigator with the Kingfisher police department and McFarland went through a year’s worth of receipts and McFarland
admitted to taking at least $16,800 cash from McDonald’s.
McFarland was arrested and booked into the Kingfisher County Jail. The
next day she pled not guilty and her next court was set for Sept. 23.

Shana Suggs, a 25-year-old Haileyville woman, has been
jailed after she allegedly poured gasoline on her daughter’s
head to treat a head lice problem - and ended up setting the
little girl on fire instead.
According to police, Suggs was attempting to treat her
5-year-old daughter’s head lice problem when she brought
the little girl into a bathroom and began pouring gasoline
over her head.
Investigators say a nearby water heater ignited on the gasoline fumes, which set both Suggs and the little girl on fire.
Sugg’s boyfriend reportedly heard screams coming from
the bathroom and used a jacket to smother out the flames -
but not before the little girl was severely burned.
Prosecutors say the child suffered second and third-degree
burns to more than 60 percent of her body. Although the
incident occurred in January, the girl continues to receive burn treatments at a Tulsa
burn center and a Texas Shriner Hospital.
After a long investigation, Suggs was booked into the Pittsburg County Jail and charged
with child abuse by injury. Her case is expected to go to trial in January.

A Longdale woman was arrested Aug. 23
after her ex-husband abandoned her when
a deputy found a bag of weed in her vehicle.
Angela Ruiz, 47, was charged Aug. 27
with possession of a CDS and transporting
an open container in Major County District
Court.
OHP Trooper Donald Kraft was patrolling SH 58 just south of Fairview when he
noticed a SUV parked on the side of the
road. He pulled in behind the SUV and
asked the driver, Ruiz, if she needed any
help, according to the affidavit.
Ruiz explained that her SUV had overheated and she was letting it cool off.
As Kraft was talking to Ruiz, he could
smell the odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. He asked for her
driver’s license and insurance, and she said she didn’t have it with her.
She gave him her name and birthdate, and it checked out. Her passenger,
Jose Aguilar, 51, said he didn’t have one on him, but gave Kraft his information, which turned out to be wrong.
Kraft had Ruiz and Aguilar get out of the SUV, and when she did, he
saw a baggy of marijuana laying in the middle console in plain sight. As
Aguilar got out, the trooper noticed he tossed something in the back seat
area. Kraft asked him to stand in the ditch near the fence line while he did
a search of the vehicle.
Kraft asked Ruiz who her passenger was and she said she didn’t know
him; she had just picked him up. She also said the baggy of marijuana was
not hers and didn’t know why it was in her SUV.
As Kraft was talking to Ruiz about her passenger, Aguilar suddenly
took off running across a plowed field. Kraft then turned back to Ruiz for
the truth. She then admitted it was her ex-husband. Kraft then found an
Oklahoma ID card identifying Ruiz’s passenger as Aguilar, but with a different birthdate than he had given. He also found two cold opened beer
cans on the floorboard.
Ruiz was then taken to the Major County Jail where she was booked.
Aguilar has not been charged.

TALKING TO OUR KIDS ABOUT
FITTING IN
Do your kids ever fret over the
fact that they “don’t fit in”? We all
feel this way at some point in our
lives. Being alone in a room full of
people is a scary thing. We all want
to belong; to fit in. It’s beyond
instinctive, it gives us the feeling
of safety and security–no matter
what our age. So, when our kids tell us that they don’t fit in, what
they could be saying is, “I’m scared because I don’t feel safe”.
Some kids really have a tough time fitting in for a variety of
reasons. Some kids are socially awkward, and don’t know how
to start a conversation with a peer. If your child struggles with a
physical or learning disability, chances are he/she feels isolated
from the rest of the class anyway. Whatever the reason is, simply
telling them that they really DO fit in, is not as helpful as you’d
expect.
Using God’s Word to Encourage Our Children
Being a Christian parent doesn’t make dealing with these tough
situations easier. But we DO have a resource to back up what we
tell our kids, and that’s God’s Word. When we actively listen to
the pain of our children feeling like they don’t belong or fit in, we
can do more than coach them in social skills (which may be a very
important tool). We can use God’s Word to encourage them even
in these struggles.
Psalm 139:14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul
knows it very well.
I’ve found the world’s solutions to the many painful aspects of
not fitting in, being teased, or feeling isolated, are superficial at
best and not helpful at all. I mean, sticks and stones may definitely
break my bones–but words really CAN and DO hurt me!
Instead we must remind our children that God, who created
them and therefore knows every nuance of them, has a specific
plan and purpose for their lives. That HE thinks they are wonderful
and worthy of love AND friendship.
The Bible says:
Fitting in
