paranoia will destroy ya
Three people face armed robbery charges after
they robbed two people at gun and knife-point who
they thought were police informants.
Kevin Timothy Maine, 34, of Norman, was
charged with conjoint robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of firearm affc, two counts
of feloniously pointing firearm, assault and battery
with a dangerous weapon; William Holtz, 38, of
Pauls Valley, was charged with conjoint robbery,
conspiracy to commit a felony, and feloniously
pointing firearm; and Katie Popejoy, 39, of Pauls
Valley, was charged with conjoint robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony. Charges were filed July
6 in Garvin County District Court.
According to the Pauls Valley Police Department,
on Monday, July 2, at approximately 3:00 AM,
Pauls Valley Police Officers began investigating allegations of an Armed Robbery and Kidnapping of
two adult victims that had taken place at 532 S.
Pecan St. in Pauls Valley. The two victims had both
been released from the residence prior to law enforcement involvement and contacted our agency.
The victims described meeting with four people
in Stratford and were brought to the residence in
Pauls Valley under the pretenses of drinking and
socializing. Once at the residence, Popejoy, Holtz,
and Maine were alleged to have held the victims at
gun and knife point while accusing them of being
law enforcement informants. The victims claimed
to have been physically assaulted and robbed of
their personal belongings before being released.
At approximately 10:23 AM, the Pauls Valley Police Department Entry Team, with the assistance of
the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office, Stratford Police
Department, and Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics
and Dangerous Drugs, executed a search warrant
at 532 S. Pecan St. in Pauls Valley.
Holtz, Popejoy, and Maine were all three arrested inside of the residence.
During the search, investigators recovered several items belonging to
the victims, weapons as described by the victims, as well as several items
of drug paraphernalia, several controlled prescription narcotics without
prescriptions, a small amount of crystal substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine, and approximately 390.9 grams of a liquid
substance which field tested positive for methamphetamines.
Maine’s bond was set at $150,000, and Holtz’ and Popejoy’s bond was
set at $75,000 each.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Phillip Williams was an unhappy consumer. So he stopped two Tampa, Florida, police officers, handed over his crack pipe, and asked if they
wouldn’t mind testing the crack cocaine that he’d bought earlier, just to
make sure it was the real deal. Good news! It was. Bad news! They arrested him.
A 17-year-old suspected arsonist approached a car in Lambertville,
Michigan, intending to siphon gas from it. What he forgot to do was ask
permission from the detective sitting in the front seat.
When Sheboygan, Wisconsin, police pulled over a car for not having
proper registration, a passenger did what many criminals do — he supplied the cops with an alias. Bad move. Turns out, that particular alias was
wanted for vehicular homicide.
Alexander D. Smith walked into an Augusta, Georgia, bank and tried
to open an account with a $1 million bill. Great idea — except there is no
such thing as a $1 million bill.
Two machete-wielding men barged into a Sydney, Australia, bar demanding money. Because they didn’t know the club was hosting a bikers’
meeting, one ended up in the hospital, the other hog-tied with electrical
wire.
Convicted of receiving stolen property, James Wombles, 37, had to
wear an ankle bracelet as part of his parole. The bracelet came complete
with a GPS monitoring system that let cops track his every move. Over
the course of a few weeks, the Riverside, Ohio, man allegedly broke into
six homes. You know where this is going — just as the cops knew where
Wombles was going. Following the signals from his bracelet, they tracked
him to his car, where they found him sitting on the stolen booty.
When Ellis Cleveland was arrested in Honolulu, a detective informed him
he was suspected of robbing four banks. “Four?” responded Cleveland,
according to the detective’s affidavit. “I didn’t do four; I only robbed three
banks.”

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty 11 | AUGUST 2018 CARTER COUNTY
An Ardmore woman is being accused of leading
police on a high-speed chase that ended with a
crash at a local business on July 1.
24-year-old Kyla Nicole Wallace also allegedly
stole the vehicle that she was driving during the
incident.
According to reports, the woman took the car
from a family member without permission and
sped off, hitting speeds around 65 mph. She
didn’t get far in the stolen vehicle, however. Her
joyride ended when she crashed into the front of
the Colston Building at the corner of A Street and
West Main.
She sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Wallace is being charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs and eluding/attempting to elude police officer.
Her bond was set at $1,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on
August 30, 2018.

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!
Medical marijuana has been approved by the people
of Oklahoma, yet our governmental officials and people
who think they know what’s best for us have once
again decided to rewrite what we voted on. What’s
your opinion on this issue?
These comments are only just a fraction we had on our Facebook Page. Read
more by going to our page.
___________________________________________________________________
Ryan S: This was a very badly written bill, and no one wanted to
acknowledge it. So you got what you voted for.
Robert S: I want everything I voted for, no changes just what I
voted for. Go after Meth if you want to help Oklahoma
Matthew M: I knew exactly what I voted for and, if they would’ve
left it alone, there wouldn’t be any problems.
Chris D: Actually Ryan Scott what we voted for was a medication
that had no regulations nor profit margin for big pharma. A natural
solution to the chemicals we have been forced to take. It defined
that we were able to have both smokable and edible forms.
Chris R: The bill was written quite intelligently. The “reefer
madness” stigma is a load of hogwash. Cannabis is far from
dangerous and for the inexperienced the concentrates and edibles
may well be far too potent.
Kris C: Only people who claim 788 was poorly written are
brainwashed with government propaganda. You people are
partially responsible for the opioid epidemic FYI
Rich C: It wasnt written to ban the smoking of the medication. It
was a very broad explanation of how it would be presented to the
public that ill agree with. But making it on the terms they now are
presenting is way off of the presentation that most understood.
Richard J: ...the state effectively kept mmj illegal with their rules,
and that goes 100% against what was voted in. A pharmacist will
lose their license if they dispense, and it would shoot the cost up
dramatically.
Darci T: It’s very simple. The people voted for a policy that gives
the patient and their doctor the power to decide about dosage
and the best method to take the medicine. The patient and their
doctor. The state ruled against the will and the vote of the people.
Whether you’re for mmj or against it, the state has gone against the
vote. It’s wrong and brings the legitimacy of the state government
in question. Mmj is a medicine and people have a right to use it.
Will it be mis-used? Yes. Most good things are misused but we
don’t outlaw them bc of misuse, examples: opioids, food stamps,
welfare, unemployment, SS disability, Medicare, etc.
Erica V: Agree! Well said.
JC J: Actually, we voted for a law that allowed the state Health
Dept. to enact bureaucratic regulations, which is what they are
doing.
Rich C: Bingo
Howard C: And all medicines are regulated which, was called for
in your ballot question
Dylan M: The reason we live in a democracy is to allow those
to vote for their own freedoms, as we should be governed by the
people- not by unelected officials on boards who have ties with the
lawmakers. They knew it would pass, but this is exactly why Mary
Fallin didn’t want to allow a special session in the house, she knew
they would put extreme measures in place.
Mike G: We live in a constitutional Republic ..
Dorothy T: She knew exactly what she was doing when she
appointed the panel she did. She knew what she was going to do
the moment she decided not to hold a special session. I can’t even
put on Facebook what I think of her!

Three Wichita Men Paid for Athletic Shoes
with Counterfeit Money
Three Wichita men were indicted on charges of
making counterfeit money and using it to pay for
athletic shoes, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister
said.
Douglas D. Blocker, 21, Wichita, Cornelius D.
Wilson, 22, Wichita, and Traevon A. McGairty, 22,
Wichita, are charged with one count of counterfeiting and one count of passing counterfeit currency. In addition, Blocker is charged with another
count of passing counterfeit currency.
The indictment alleges the defendants used a photocopy machine to
make counterfeit $20 bills. In one count, Blocker is alleged to have met a
victim at the Towne West shopping center and paid him $480 in counterfeit bills for four pairs of Jordan athletic shoes. In another count, the three
defendants are alleged to have met another victim at Towne West and
paid him $520 in counterfeit bills for three pairs of athletic shoes.
If convicted, they face a penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison and
a fine up to $250,000 on each count.

out of gas
Kingston woman Sarah Lynn McCullough,
36, allegedly jacked a car from Texas, drove
it up to Marshall County, and led deputies on
a chase on July 18. Too bad for her the stolen
vehicle ran out of gas.
According to the affidavit, dispatch was contacted by officers from Grayson County, Texas,
regarding a stolen vehicle. The officers said a
yellow SUV had been reported stolen and was
possibly in Marshall County.
Later that day, a deputy was advised that a
suspicious person driving a yellow SUV was
last seen headed north on Shay Road. The
deputy headed that way and soon found the
suspect vehicle just east of the “S” curve on Shay Cut-Off Road. He followed the SUV as it crossed S Highway 377. The vehicle briefly came to
a stop at a property on the southwest corner of Bowhunter Road and
Highway 377, but when the deputy turned on his red and blue lights, the
yellow SUV took off and headed back toward Texas.
After a short chase, the suspect vehicle rolled to a stop as they reached
Willis Bridge; it had run out of gas. McCullough stepped out of the driver’s
seat with her hands in the air.
The deputy told the woman to step to the back of the vehicle and sit
down, but she claimed someone was in still in the vehicle holding her at
gunpoint. The deputy didn’t see anyone in the vehicle, and McCullough
steadily approached the deputy despite his orders to stop and sit down.
She kept approaching him until he sprayed her with pepper spray.
The woman screamed that he had shot her, wiped away the spray and
again approaching him. She grabbed his pistol and tried to remove it from
his holster, but the deputy was able to keep the gun away from her.
The scuffle continued to the ground. The deputy sat on the woman’s
back and struggled to place her in handcuffs. Once she was restrained,
he put her in the patrol car. McCullough then removed her handcuffs and
started banging on the window.
A Whitesboro officer and Grayson County deputy arrived on scene to
assist. The Grayson County deputy opened the door of the patrol car and
told the woman to turn around. She instead kicked at him.
Four officers and a taser later, McCullough was finally placed back into
some handcuffs.
Grayson County deputies confirmed that the yellow SUV was the one
reported stolen.
McCullough is being charged with resisting an officer, malicious injury to
property less than $2,500, possession of stolen vehicle and endangering
others while eluding/attempting to elude police officer. Her bond was set
at $150,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on August 9, 2018.

august is back to school
safety month
As summer draws to a close and
children start heading back to school,
family life can get pretty hectic. It’s
important to remember – and share
with your children – some key tips that
will help keep them safe and healthy
throughout the school year.
Getting to School
Whether children walk, ride their bicycle or take the bus to school, it is vitally
important that they – and the motorists around them – take proper safety precautions.
Walkers:
• Walk on the sidewalk; if there is no sidewalk and you must walk in the street,
walk facing traffic
• Before crossing the street, stop and look left, right and left again to see if cars
are coming
• Never dart out in front of a parked car
• Parents: Practice walking to school with your child, crossing streets at cros
walks when available
• Never walk while texting or talking on the phone
• Do not walk while using headphones
Bike Riders:
• Always wear a helmet that is fitted and secured properly
• Children need to know the rules of the road: Ride single file on the right side
of the road, come to a complete stop before crossing the street and walk the
bike across
• Watch for opening car doors and other hazards
• Use hand signals when turning
• Wear bright-colored clothing
Bus Riders:
• Teach children the proper way to get on and off the bus
• Line up 6 feet away from the curb as the bus approaches
• If seat belts are available, buckle up
• Wait for the bus to stop completely before standing
• Do not cross in front of the bus if possible, or walk at least 10 feet ahead until
you can see the other drivers
Drivers, Share the Road:
• Don’t block crosswalks
• Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and take extra care in school zones
• Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians
• Never pass a bus loading or unloading children
• The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop
far enough back to allow them to safely enter and exit the bus
