Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty GARVIN COUNTY 5 | AUGUST 2019
state and federal charges filed against Pauls
Valley couple accused of multiple child sex crimes
Attorney General Mike Hunter announced
that his office has added additional charges
to a couple previously charged with a host of
crimes relating to child pornography based on
evidence uncovered during an ongoing investigation that has identified additional alleged
victims.
Gerrad Coddington, 25, and Christina Nelson-Coddington, 29, both of Pauls Valley,
are now facing first degree rape, incest, child
abuse and conspiracy charges in addition to
the numerous counts previously filed in late
June, which included manufacturing child pornography, lewd acts with a minor and violating
the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act, among
others. Their bonds were set at $5 million
bonds each.
Additionally, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is
pursuing charges against the couple for production of child pornography, which carries a
lengthier sentence than state charges for the
same crime. While the maximum penalty for
manufacturing or distributing child pornography in state court is 20 years in prison, federal
law carries a mandatory sentence of 15-to-30
years.
New information uncovered by the investigation and filed in Garvin County alleges that additional underage victims were beaten, handcuffed and raped. According to the information filed, evidence was also
uncovered that Gerrad had conspired to commit incest with his unborn
child.
Attorney General Hunter said combining resources with the new U.S.
Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma Tim Downing’s office makes
a stronger overall case.
“Children are among the most vulnerable and defenseless in our society
and crimes against them will never be tolerated by my office,” Attorney
General Hunter said. “We will also ensure those who commit these types
of crimes are held accountable and punished to the full extent of the law.
I appreciate U.S. Attorney Downing for partnering with us on this case to
ensure justice is served and those who committed these horrific acts are
unable to do it again.”
The Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation into the couple
after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided the
office a tip containing information that the couple allegedly shared a pornographic image of a minor on a social media website. Agents with the
Attorney General’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations and Pauls Valley Police Department investigating the tip were able to develop probable
cause to arrest the suspects within three days of receiving the tip.

burning for you
An Ardmore man allegedly admitted to setting his girlfriend’s home on fire on July 16
due to their volatile relationship.
According to reports, the Ardmore Fire Department was dispatched to the residence in
the 500 block of Oak Street early that morning to extinguish the fire. During the investigation, the fire marshal soon realized that the
fire was no accident. There were no utilities
hooked up to the house at the time, so there
was no ignition source for the fire.
Fortunately, the home was vacant at the
time of the fire and no one was injured.
Officers spoke to Jimmy Elvis Morgan, 40,
he admitted that he intentionally set the home
ablaze. He managed to burn down 40% of the house, causing an estimated
$15,000 worth of damage.
Morgan and the homeowner, identified as his girlfriend, had an on-and-off
relationship, which had become increasingly volatile in the weeks before the
fire. He said he set the house on fire after they had an argument.
The girlfriend told police that Morgan had threatened to burn down her
house, but she didn’t report the threats to authorities.
Reports state police had received several reports of squatters at the residence leading up to the fire.
Morgan was also caught a few days prior breaking into a different residence. The man was arrested at the scene of the fire for unrelated outstanding warrants.
Morgan is being charged with second-degree arson. His bond was set at
$2,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on August 29, 2019.

Police said two burglars struck a Texas store that sells high-end security equipment,
and the whole thing was caught on tape by 17 cameras rolling in the store.
“The point is, nobody is safe; there is always a stupid criminal out there,” said Kris
Webb, owner of Spy Supply.
The thieves broke into Webb’s surveillance gear store in North Richland Hills, Texas,
last week.
“I’ve got them on no less than 17 cameras,” Webb said. “We are a security business.”
And if the name of the business wasn’t telling enough, multiple warning signs on the
store should have given the burglars a clue that they would be on camera.
“It is absolutely astounding that these people have the audacity to steal from us and
not expect to get caught,” Webb said.
The surveillance cameras caught several clear images of the two men who broke in
through the store’s front door with a crowbar early Friday.
Police said the duo filled a trash can with close to $10,000 worth of spy equipment.
Authorities said the video even showed a clear shot of their getaway car.
Webb said he’s taking the robbery in stride.
“I’m pretty confident they will get caught,” he said. “I’m not confident we’ll get our
equipment back.”
An ex-con allegedly tried to rob two people in New York, police said, but didn’t notice
his intended victims were police officers -- in uniform.
Police said 33-year-old Jermaine Washington allegedly was so intent on robbing
someone Saturday that he pulled a fake handgun on the two armed police officers as
they walked through Riverside Park, The New York Daily News said.
“It was stupid criminal tricks,” a police source said. “The guy didn’t even look to see
who was coming.”
After Washington allegedly pulled his fake gun, the two officers drew their real weapons and Washington surrendered after a short but tense standoff.
A man driving a stolen car that went into a ditch flagged down the wrong person for
help.
Dean Gangl, 40, of Richmond, Minn., unwittingly asked an off-duty sheriff’s deputy
to help him pull the vehicle out of a ditch along Benton County Road 4 west of Foley,
Minn., Sheriff Brad Bennett said.
The deputy, who came upon the stranded motorist at while he was on his way home,
noticed that the vehicle in the ditch matched the description of one reported stolen
hours earlier in St. Cloud. The deputy radioed to dispatchers, who confirmed the man
was driving a stolen car, Bennett said.
The deputy arrested Gangl and found that he was in possession of a white crystal
substance. Gangl tested positive for methamphetamine, Bennett said.
He was taken to the Benton County Jail and charged with being in possession of
controlled substance and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
A house burglar was arrested at a court when he showed up for another case, police
said. The man kicked in the back door of a home on Aug. 8 and entered but ran off
when a teenage girl who was lying on a couch saw him and started screaming, Nassau
County police said.
The girl identified the 49-year-old man, who had multiple prior arrests for burglary, in
a photo lineup, they said.
The man, from Bayville, was arrested by an officer when he went to First District
Court for an unrelated issue, police said. He was charged with second-degree burglary.
A Perth man has been charged with drink driving three times in 24 hours, his menacing spree ending with a bizarre incident at a police station.
The 46-year-old was first stopped by Boddington police in the Perth hills and charged
with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
He was spotted driving his car again a short time later and arrested for drink-driving,
police said.
The man’s car was impounded in the Boddington police station but early the next
morning, the man allegedly jumped over the fence of the police station, broke open a
padlock on a back gate and drove away in his car.
He was caught and arrested again three hours later and charged with three counts
of driving under the influence; three counts of driving while under suspension and one
charge of trespass.
He’s been refused bail.

FEEL THE PAIN
Wanette woman Hotona Louise Smith, 25,
allegedly left her kids in a car with no air conditioner on a hot July afternoon. The reason?
Smith said one of the kids was “being a pain.”
On July 9 at approximately 4:39 p.m., an
officer was dispatched to assist another officer at Purcell Walmart in the 2000 block of
South Green Avenue. According to the affidavit, the officer stated he needed assistance
because he was at the scene with two small
children who had been left unattended in a
vehicle.
The officer was able to get the door open.
When the other officer arrived, he saw a
woman run out of Walmart toward the vehicle
where the children were. The officer met with
the female, who was identified as Smith. Officers asked her why she left her
kids in the car. She replied, “He was being a pain.”
Both Smith’s son and daughter were in the vehicle.
While they were speaking, Smith started the car and turned the air conditioner on.
An officer handed the children two stuffed animals and noticed that they
were both sweating. The first responding officer noted that the inside of the
vehicle was slightly hotter than it was outside.
The temp that day? It was 93 degrees, but it felt like 104 degrees.
An employee showed police security footage, which revealed the brother
and sister had been left alone in the car for about 10 minutes. A family member came to the scene to pick up the kids.
Smith was placed under arrest and transported to jail. She is being charged
with leaving unattended children in vehicle. Her bond was set at $10,000, and
she was scheduled to appear in court on July 25, 2019.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
